Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to be Filmed in Australia

Disney's 20,000 Leagues has been suggested to include actor Brad Pitt, center, and director David Fincher, right.

The Walt Disney Company has announced they will be filming Disney’s re-make of ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea‘ in the land down under, Australia. The Australian government is evening giving the Walt Disney Company $20.7 million as an incentive to film this re-make down under. In return, Disney plans to spend $160 in Australia on the film. Australian Prime Minister Gillard reported the deal should create up to 2,000 jobs for locals.

“On the back of the launch of Creative Australia, the new national cultural policy, the securing of this film is a huge coup for the Australian film industry and for the near 1,000 local businesses that will be providing goods and services for the film,” Gillard said.

“The announcement of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to film in Australia will result in meaningful benefits for the industry and the economy; including jobs, skills and training, and investment back into the local industry. This one-off payment highlights the importance of an attractive Location Offset which can successfully compete for large scale international production to shoot in Australia,” Debra Richards, CEO of locations marketing agency, said.

10 Things You NEED to Pack for Disney

packing

What do glow sticks, a shoe organizer, and ziploc bags have in common? They’re all on my packing list for Disney. Packing for Walt Disney World can be time consuming, stressful, and inevitably you’ll end up forgetting something. After all, it rains in Florida, you never know when you’ll need a ziploc bag, and glow sticks can be life savers. Aside from the obvious sunscreen, basic medical items, and comfortable shoes, there are some items you won’t want to be without. So, today I want to share with you 10 Things You NEED to Pack for Disney.

1. Glow sticks. You can pick these up at the Dollar Store, and they are so fun for the kids! My daughter will be using a “wand” that glows during the light parades, as well as her Minnie Mouse light up toy we bought her on our last trip. You can also get glow bracelets, necklaces, and “swords” to entertain your kids while waiting for the fireworks or night shows.

2. An over the door shoe organizer. This was an absolute MUST on our last trip! When I returned home, I let it air out for a few days, folded it back up, and put it in our suitcase for our next trip. This was AWESOME to put toiletries, extra shoes, and odds and ends in while in our resort. We hung it over our bathroom door, and I can’t tell you how great it was! We often take a few pairs of shoes for each family member, and the closet fills up fast. Also, the counter in the bathroom was less cluttered because our sunscreen, deodorant, and other larger toiletry items were in here.

Disney Closes LucasArts Studio

lucas arts

Today, the Walt Disney Company laid off the staff of LucasArts and cancelled all of their current projects. Approximately one-hundred fifty staff members were informed of the decision this morning and lost their jobs. This decision also forces the company to cancel both of LucasArts current projects- Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313. The Walt Disney Company is keeping the LucasArts name to license games, but the studio will no longer exist.

Disney has reported that their current games could be licensed out to a different publisher or developer, but according to some sources, that’s unlikely. Rumor has it that Lucas has pursued the option for one or both of these games, but nothing came of it. It appears that these games will probably be gone forever.

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games,” LucasArts parent company LucasFilm said in a statement. “As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”

LucasArts actually stopped all hiring last September and product announcements also ceased at this time. LucasFilm is still in business though and this decision should not affect any of the Star Wars movies in the makings.

What do you think will happen with the LucasArts projects? Do you think they will be licensed out to another publisher?
