Disney Junior begins production on Lucky Duck!

Lucky Duck!

Production has begun on the first Disney Junior Original Movie, “Lucky Duck,” a music-filled, animated adventure at sea starring the voices of Christian Borle and Megan Hilty (both of “Smash”), and Tom Cavanaugh (“Royal Pains”). The movie follows a plucky rubber ducky named Lucky (Borle) who, after accidentally being tossed off a cargo ship, sets off in search of the perfect home. Along the way, he teams with a group of misfit tub toys including a sassy hippo, Flo (Hilty) and an apprehensive turtle named Snap (Cavanaugh).

The movie is slated to premiere in summer 2014 on Disney Junior in the U.S. and thereafter on Disney Junior channels around the world. The announcement was made today by Joe D’Ambrosia, Vice President, Original Programming, Disney Junior.

D’Ambrosia said, “We’re eager to introduce young kids and their parents to our first Disney Junior Original Movie, an exciting adventure with a heart-warming message about never giving up, despite all odds. We hope that this new TV movie format will create an even stronger family viewing destination to further deliver on our brand promise of imaginative characters and storytelling with heart.”

The movie opens in a toy factory where Lucky and a menagerie of other tub toys are going through inspection. After being rejected for a broken squeaker, Lucky fortuitously winds up in a shipping crate with approved toys – and thus begins a touching adventure that leads him to new, lifelong friends who love him just the way he is.

“Lucky Duck” is directed by Don Kim (“The Adventures of Chuck and Friends”) and written by WGA Award-winner Michael G. Stern (“Imagination Movers”). Executive producers are Nelvana Studio’s Irene Weibel and Colin Bohm (“Mike the Knight”). The composers are Rick Garcia and William Malpede (“Rango”). “Lucky Duck” is a production of Nelvana Studio in association with Disney Junior.

Zendaya will be Signing Books and CD’s at Tren-D

On October 10, Zendaya from Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up” will make an appearance at Tren-D in the Downtown Disney Marketplace from 5 – 7 p.m. as they celebrate the release of her new book Between U and Me along with her self-titled CD, “Zendaya.”

In this original paperback book, Zendaya, shares her wit and wisdom on everything from fashion to friendships to following your dreams! This book, inspired by actual questions that Zendaya has received from her over 3 million Facebook fans and Twitter followers, is the perfect way for girls everywhere to get even closer to their social media BFF! Photos of Zendaya’s friends and family, as well as her very own doodles are scattered throughout the book, giving her fans an even more personal glimpse into her life.

2014 Discounts Released for Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World has released the first discounts for 2014 and you have two to choose from. Depending on where you are staying and for how long. both of them can be very useful.

The first one.. Stay, Play and Dine

It is not the same as free dining, it is a discount on all three parts of the package. You must book resort room, tickets and dining to be eligible for this discount.

Woman Arrested for Selling Fake Disneyland Tickets

The Police in Ceres are giving credit to a Modesto Bee reporter with letting them know about a scam where people were trying to sell fake Disneyland tickets on Craigslist.

Apparently, a person had bought tickets to Disneyland from a Ceres resident and found, once getting to the park, that the tickets were fake.

The victim told police that they had bought the tickets from 33-year-old Jessica Melendez. Police had heard talk around social media describing Melendez as a suspect in a similar case.

Police had visited Melendez’ home back on May 7 for to investigate a “civil matter” involving Disneyland tickets bought on Craigslist through 32-year-old Israel Vasquez. Further, a Ceres Police dispatcher was able to remember another incident back on May 20 near Central Avenue and Evans Road involving Vasquez and more Disneyland tickets he supposedly sold that turned out to be fake.

With the information mounting, police looked into Jessica and Israel’s records and found that the two both had active warrants.

A search of the home uncovered multiple printed Disneyland tickets, among other evidence.

Melendez is being held at Stanislaus County Public Safety Center without bail.

We all know that there is one thing that Disney does well and that is fairy tales. The studio has been revisiting some classic tales and reintroducing themselves as the number one destination for modern twists on timeless stories.

The movie is about a Prince and Princess ten years after they’ve lived “happily ever after.” They realize that even in a fairy tale land, you have to work on a relationship to keep the magic going.

Reese Witherspoon is starring in the movie and she is also producing it.

“Happily Ever After” has already more than two years in the making.

Frozen appearing in Disneyland and Disney World this November

This November, the enchanting story and characters from “Frozen” will be brought to magical life with new experiences coming to Disney Parks. At Disneyland park, Olaf is preparing a special, snow-capped spot in Fantasyland, where you can spend time visiting with Anna and Elsa. When the royal sisters travel east to Walt Disney World Resort, they’ll be appearing at the Norway Pavilion at Epcot, where you’ll also find a new gallery exhibit exploring how the culture and beauty of Norway-inspired the filmmakers in the creation of “Frozen.”

And in the evenings this holiday season, a sequence celebrating “Frozen” will join “Celebrate the Magic,” the nighttime projection show that transforms Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park. Olaf will also play host for the wondrous all-new nighttime experience, “World of Color – Winter Dreams” at Disney California Adventure park.

Frozen Preview at Walt Disney Animation Studio

Last week I was able to attend the Press Day event at Walt Disney Animation Studio for their newest movie, FROZEN which showed Disney movie making at it’s best and left this fan counting the days until the movie’s release.

Based on the preview, FROZEN’s main characters, sisters Elsa and Anna, along with Kristoff , his reindeer Sven, Prince Hans and Olaf (the snowman) appear to continue the traditional storyline of a Disney princess and her trusty sidekicks, on an adventure while fighting the movie’s Villain. What makes FROZEN different is the beautiful backdrop and the magical uses of snow. This movie will become and instant favorite.

The release date for FROZEN is November 27, 2013.

‘The Neighbors: The Complete First Season DVD’ Review

Last season, ‘The Neighbors’ premiered on ABC with little fanfare. The show was derided by critics, but betting against the odds, I decided to give the show a chance. Man, am I glad I did. While the show may not be perfect, it was actually quite the surprise for me. Instead of something completely devoid of humor and fun, as I was led to believe it was, I found something quirky, fun, and full of heart. Now, Disney has brought the show’s entire first season to DVD, featuring all 22 episodes over three discs.

The show follows the Weaver family, a family of five who leave their old lives behind to move into a gated community. Little do they know that the neighborhood they’re moving into is actually inhabited by a group of aliens who have been living on Earth for the last decade, studying humans. When the Weavers discover the truth about their new suburb, instead of running away, they befriend their new neighbors and decide to try and help them learn how to really assimilate into human life.

As with any sitcom, the show can only survive on its cast and writing. Thankfully, the show is in the very capable hands of its leads, Jami Gertz, Lenny Venito, and Simon Templeman. Gertz and Venito both play the Weaver patriarchs, and they’re really quite good in it. They’ve got chemistry, and they are both very funny together. I’ve been a fan of Venito for some time, who has popped up in some of my favorite shows over the years, such as ‘The Sopranos’ and ‘Rescue Me’. He was always memorable in his bit parts, so it’s good to see him in a lead role on a weekly series. He’s actually very, very funny as Marty Weaver, making the character incredibly likable and relatable. Marty is probably my favorite character in the series, with Simon Templeman’s character, Larry Bird, in a close second. The two play off each other incredibly well, and have perfect comedic timing. Without their interactions, the show won’t be nearly as fun.

One thing I love about the show is just how offbeat it is. With most “aliens living on earth” movies and shows, a lot of the humor comes from the aliens awkward moments when trying to understand how to be human. I think my favorite is the fact that the aliens have all named themselves after famous athletes, because they believe it’ll make them blend in. They also managed to get two of my favorite sci-fi actors, Mark Hamill and George Takei, to guest star in the season finale, ‘It Has Begun…’, which is probably my favorite episode of the season. The tongue and cheek nature of the series is really what makes it work, so if you enjoy that sort of awkward, offbeat, self referential humor, this show is definitely for you.

It’s just too bad that the series didn’t get better special features on this DVD release. This ‘Complete First Season’ DVD only has a few deleted scenes and a very standard blooper reel, which seems to be the norm now on most of the Disney TV show releases now. It would have been great to get a making of feature or behind the scenes look at the writing process and the actors on set, but unfortunately there’s nothing like this here. The blooper reel is about seven minutes long, and it’s definitely amusing. I just really would have loved to see more here.

‘The Neighbors: The Complete First Season’ is a fun, quirky, offbeat show that is definitely fun. While it starts a bit rough, it finds it’s footing and actually becomes quite fun by the time it’s over. It never takes itself too seriously, and is almost like ‘3rd Rock From the Sun’ for a new generation. If you love sci-fi and comedy, this show is definitely worth a look. Fans of the show will definitely want to pick up this series, even with the lack of special features. This set definitely comes recommended.
