Five Minute Sneak Peak at ‘Captain America 2’ Attached to 3D Screenings of ‘Thor 2’

Captain America The Winter Soldier
Captain America The Winter Soldier

Winter Soldier

We’re just about half a year away from the release of Marvel Studio’s third Phase 2 film, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘. The promotional rollout began last week, when the first trailer for the new film was revealed online. The trailer is set to be attached to screenings of ‘Thor: The Dark World’ across the world, but now fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the United States will get an extra special treat in front of 3D showings of Thor’s newest adventure. Marvel will unveil a five minute extended preview for the newest Captain America film in 3D showings across the nation, starting on November 8, 2013, when the film is released. This is definitely a nice surprise, so I’m very excited to see just what this new five minute trailer consists of.

For now though, fans who don’t see the 3D version, can still enjoy the excellent trailer for the new film that was released last week, which you can watch below. Will you be going to any 3D showings of  ‘Thor: The Dark World’? Were you already planning on it, or will this extra exclusive look at the next Marvel Studios film persuade you into going to a 3D showing? Let me know in the comments below!

Christopher Cross Featured During Epcot Eat to the Beat Concert Series Wearing MagicBand

Christopher Cross was  featured this weekend during Epcot’s Eat to the Beat Concert Series for the International Food and Wine Festival. This was the first year he has been a performer in the concert lineup. He kicked off his first performance on November 2, 2013. The American Gardens Theatre was over-flowing with spectators enjoying the beautiful music and “getting caught between the moon and New York City.” We got these photos during his first performance on his first day. Once we got home and started going through the photos,  I noticed Chris was wearing a very special accessory. Upon closer inspection – you will see that it is his MagicBand!

cc3

Epcot is very generous to the performers in the Eat to the Beat Concert Series. In addition to paying them well,  the artists and their crew are invited to bring their entire families for lots of Disney fun during their stay. A well deserved perk in my opinion!  Isn’t it cool to see a celebrity wearing a MagicBand?

DIY Disney Breakfast – Start Your Day Off Right!

Waffle
Waffle

CpBrekafast

They always say that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”, and I am pretty sure WDW took those words to heart when designing their menus – because they serve some of the best breakfast foods I have ever tasted! Whether you are grabbing a quick breakfast sandwich or burrito at your WDW Resort, or heading off to enjoy the “Royal” breakfast at Cinderella’s Royal Table – you won’t be disappointed!

My fave place to have breakfast at WDW is at the Magic Kingdom’s Crystal Palace – they have it all there! A buffet style breakfast offers a feast of options – from cereal and bagels to pancakes and waffles and eggs and meats too!

And since I am always trying to recreate that “Disney Magic” at home, so I thought – why not “Disney-fy” my brunch menu by recreating some WDW menu favorites in my own kitchen?

Waffle

Mickey Waffles are by far my favorite Disney breakfast item – crunchy on the outside, sweet, soft, and warm on the inside – always hot and fresh, what more could you ask for? Luckily, this one is pretty easy to replicate at home, all you need is your trusty Mickey Waffle Iron (don’t have one? Buy one here!)

Mickey Waffles (Recipe courtesy of Magical Recipes)

Ingredients

1. 2 eggs, beaten

2. 1 1/4 cups of water

3. 4 teaspoons of melted butter

4. 2 cups of Carbonis Golden Malted Flour (official waffle mixture of Walt Disney World)

Directions

1. Heat up your waffle maker.

2. Beat the eggs and water together.

3. Add the Carbonis Golden Malter Flour and mix the ingredients well together.

4. Stir in the melted butter and mix it well again.

5. Pour it onto waffle maker and remove it when it is golden brownish.

6. Top the waffle with the toppings of your choice, such as powdered sugar, cream, jam, fruit or maple syrup.

PoohLasagna

Pooh’s Breakfast Lasagna is a “must-eat” at the Crystal Palace breakfast buffet – it has it all! Layers of pancakes, waffles, pound cake, custard crème, and fruit come together in this amazing concoction, and while the recipe can seem a bit daunting – trust me, it’s worth the work!

Pooh’s Breakfast Lasagna (recipe courtesy of The Disney Food Blog)

INGREDIENTS

Pastry cream

* 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 6 egg yolks
* 1 1/2 cups milk
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
* 3/4 cup sugar

Pancakes

* 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
* 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
* 3/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 egg, well beaten
* 1 1/4 cups milk
* 3 tablespoons shortening or salad oil

Waffles

* 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
* 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
* 3/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 egg, well beaten
* 1 1/4 cups milk
* 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
* 3 tablespoons shortening or salad oil

Pound Cake

* 3 cups cake flour
* 6 large eggs
* 1 lb butter
* 1 lb sugar
* 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1/2 cup milk

Custard

* 6 large eggs
* 1 1/2 pints heavy cream
* 1 pint half-and-half
* 1 ounce brandy
* 1/4 ounce nutmeg
* 1/2 ounce cinnamon
* 1 1/2 cups sugar

Additional Ingredients to Assemble

* 1 cup frozen raspberries
* 1 cup frozen blueberries
* 3 bananas
* 1 tablespoon butter

Baking and Garnishing

* 1 banana
* 1/4 cup brown sugar
* 1/2 pint your favorite fresh berries

DIRECTIONS

1. Make the Pastry Cream first.
a. In a 2 quart saucepan, combine sugar, flour, salt and milk and whisk; over medium heat, cook while stirring until mixture thickens.

b. In a small bowl with a fork, beat egg yolks slightly, beat small amount of milk mixture into yolks.

c. Slowly pour egg mixture back into milk mixture.

d. Stirring constantly, cook over medium low heat until mixture thickens.

e. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Chill cream until ready to use.

2. While cream is chilling, make pancakes, waffles and pound cake:
Pancakes: (note the 3 TB. shortening should be melted and slightly cooled)
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Mix egg, milk and shortening. Pour milk mixture into dry ingredients and stir only enough to moisten. Do not beat or the pancakes will be tough. Bake on a hot griddle, lightly greased if necessary. Turn pancakes only once.

Waffles:
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Mix egg, milk, vanilla and shortening. Pour milk mixture into dry ingredients and stir only enough to moisten. Do not beat or the waffles will be tough. Bake in waffle iron following waffle iron instructions.

Pound Cake:
Sift the flour into a large mixing bowl. Stir in sugar, using a large spoon. Add room temperature butter. Add eggs. Using a mixer on low speed, slowly add the milk, and then the vanilla extract. After thoroughly stirred, turn mixer to medium for a few minutes, then to high. Mix thoroughly. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a standard tube pan with butter, then lightly flour it, shaking the excess from the pan. Pour in the mix and bake the cake for about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Check the doneness of the cake with a toothpick. Allow cake to cool for 15-20 minutes in the pan, then crumble the cake into small crumbs with your hands.

3. Custard:.
Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and whisk until fully incorporated. Chill until ready to use. Makes 1 1/2 quarts.

Assembly:

Put a layer of waffles in a buttered casserole dish. Sprinkle a quarter of the pound cake over the waffles. Peel and slice the bananas. Layer with half of each of the following: the cut bananas, frozen raspberries, and frozen blueberries. Sprinkle half of the remaining pound cake over the fruit, then top with the rest of the fruit. Top the fruit with a layer of pancakes, the sprinkle the rest of the pound cake on top. Press down on the layers to pack firmly. Slowly add the 1 1/2 quarts custard mixture until the entire dish is saturated.

Baking and Garnishing:
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 60 minutes. (Oven thermometer placed in center of dish should register 165 degrees.) Top the lasagna with a layer of 2 1/2 cups pastry cream. Slice the banana and layer on top of cream. Sprinkle sugar on top and place casserole under the broiler until browned. Garnish with fresh fruit and serve.

Frunch

Wow ok – after that recipe, I need something to drink, don’t you? How about a Disney favorite – Frunch – the fruity punch drink that pairs perfectly with any and all breakfast foods!

Frunch (Recipe courtesy of Magical Recipes)

Yield: 8 cups

Ingredients

1. 1 1/2 cups mango juice

2. 1/2 cup pineapple concentrate, thawed

3. 1/2 cup lemonade concentrate, thawed

4. 2 cups fresh orange juice

5. 3 cups water

6. 4 Tablespoons grenadine

Directions

More Fake Disneyland Tickets Sold on Craigslist

Disneyland Ticket
Disneyland Ticket

Disneyland Ticket

Dawn Bliler has never been more excited. Her and her husband took off work because they were planning on taking their 3 year old son to Disneyland for the first time.

They bought their tickets at a great discount and they made hotel reservations for 2 days and nights at Disneyland.

She is one of at least 12 victims who got their tickets on Craigslist and came up empty-handed after the Disneyland tickets they bought turned out to be fake or already used. Police say a ring of scam artists have targeted people all over the state by selling these fake tickets.

Sadly most people don’t know they have been scammed until they attempt to use their tickets at the front gate.

The tickets are color copies of real tickets that were purchased months ago though the AAA.

Bliler wasn’t naive. She had purchased from Craigslist before and was very aware of the risks. She said she took precautions to protect herself against fraud.

She met who she now knows as the suspect in person to make the exchange. The woman, reportedly named Jazlyn, provided Bliler with printed copies of three two-day park hopper tickets, electronic copies of the same tickets in an email, a receipt showing that the tickets were purchased at a AAA office and even a receipt of their transaction that included her name and contact information. Bliler paid her $300. The retail price of the tickets is about $600.

Bliler described the woman as warm and friendly . They talked for about 20 minutes. They even texted each other the next day.

Unfortunately their trip got cut down to a one day trip, when they were faced with paying full price at the gate. They were not going to let her ruin their vacation.

“We had a great time,” she said. “We didn’t let her ruin our time together.”

“Craigslist as a whole has given people a lot of good opportunities. Unfortunately, there is a small percentage of people who are making that a bad experience,” Venn said. “There are more scammers out there.”

“I will never ever be doing that again,” she said. “There are too many people out there who are dishonest that steal from good people who work hard for the money they earn.”

Remember if it seems to good to be true then it probably is! Only buy from Disney directly or an authorized ticket agency. Do thorough research!

Disney World’s Advanced Dining Reservations – Making Sense of the System

whatsfordinnerHS
whatsfordinnerHS

dhs

We’ve all heard the acronyms floating around when people talk about planning their Walt Disney World vacation, and one of the big ones is ADRs. What are ADRs and how does it affect your vacation? Is is a discount? Is it a backstage pass? Is some secret password to get into the suite in the top of Cinderella’s Castle? None of the above.

ADR stands for Advance Dining Reservation. Which means if you want to eat at a “good” (or popular) restaurant while at Walt Disney World, you need to be up very early 180 days from your check in date. Years ago, the system was different.  I remember on my very first trip to Walt Disney World for my honeymoon we decided the night before which park we were going to and that designated our eating for the day, sadly not the case anymore.

Since dining has become such a huge part of the vacation and the planning process, deciding your ADRs  well in advance has become a way of life for a lot Disney vacation planners. Most people start with the park for a particular day and then decide which restaurants they want to eat at for the day. If you have the dining plan, then you have count your “credits” and make sure you have enough for the all the meals that you have chosen or you have to pay cash for some of the meals. Once you have your game plan all figured out (whether you use a spread sheet, notebook paper, or life size map of the park with push pins) it’s time to make the call.

How do you make the ADRs?

If you are a resort guest you can make the 180 +10 days out from your check in date. So you can make them at 190 days? No, you have to be 180 days away from your check in day, but you can book up to 10 days after that, which is 180 +10. This allows you to make the reservations for your whole vacation at one time, instead of having to call back every day and add another restaurant.

There are two ways to make them, phone or website. Which is better, that depends. Most of the time you have to get up when the dining phone lines open at 7 am Eastern and call them in if you are trying to hit that 180 day mark. As of right now, you can not do the 180 +10 online, but we are hoping that will change with all the new changes coming to MDE. If you are going in the middle of summer or on a holiday weekend and want to eat a very popular restaurant, then I suggest setting the alarm and getting a cup of coffee, because you need to be on the phone when those phone lines open.

If you made a last minute decision to visit Walt Disney World and you are within that 180 day mark, you can book them online through the MDE website. Which, does make it a little easier than calling on the phone. Once you set up your MDE account, you can create itineraries by the day and add the dining all right there. You can choose your dining by restaurant, the park, the day or the time. I think it makes planning a little easier, but if you want to get in Chef Mickey on 4th of July, the phone is the best option.

Are you an uber planner, been up and on the phone at the 180 day mark? How do you prefer to make your dining reservations internet or phone?

Let me plan help your next trip and I will be the one getting up and making the ADRs for you. At DIF we offer personalized travel planning, lots of extras and fun just for you! Disney Channel kicks off its annual month-long “Fa-la-la-lidays” programming event FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29 with a special one-hour crossover of the hit comedies “Good Luck Charlie” and “Jessie,” featuring an original holiday song performed by “Jessie” star (Debby Ryan). The month brimming with winter-themed episodes also includes a music-filled episode of “Austin & Ally” — featuring a duet with Austin (Ross Lynch) and Ally (Laura Marano) — a “Liv and Maddie” episode in which Liv (Dove Cameron) sings a classic holiday song, new episodes of “A.N.T. Farm,” “Dog With A Blog” and “Wander Over Yonder” and favorite holiday movies including “Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas!,” “Disney’s A Christmas Carol,” “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause” and “Santa Buddies.”

Viewers are also invited to visit DisneyChannel.com/FaLaLaLidays to celebrate the “Gift of Giving” in true holiday fashion, beginning November 26. Each week, kids and families will receive a new exclusive “gift” of a themed game or activity and can find ideas for giving back during the holiday season. Popular DisneyChannel.com games and activities from holidays past will also be available.

The digital audio single of “I Love Christmas,” featuring Ross Lynch and Laura Marano will be available from Walt Disney Records at online retail, including iTunes and Amazon on November 25.

The “Fa-la-la-lidays” highlights include (all times ET/PT):

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29

8:00 p.m. – “Jessie” and “Good Luck Charlie”

“Good Luck Jessie: NYC Christmas” – In the crossover episode, Teddy and PJ travel to New York City to tour a university, but a blizzard prevents their return home in time for Christmas. After meeting Jessie on the subway, they embark on a Ross family holiday like no other. Back in Denver, Bob takes the Duncan kids to meet Santa, but Gabe is not in the holiday spirit.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1

8:00 p.m. – “Liv and Maddie”

“Fa La La La-A-Rooney” – Liv is asked to sing a duet at the town’s holiday spectacular but her partner, a nine-year-old aspiring singer, is not quite what she seems. Meanwhile, Pete and Maddie are tasked with decorating the town Christmas tree, and Parker sabotages Joey’s get-rich-quick Santa booth.

8:30 p.m. – “Austin & Ally”

“Mix-Ups & Mistletoes” – Trish is organizing a Kids Club holiday party at which Austin and Ally will perform their original holiday song and distribute Austin Moon dolls, but a mix-up at the toy factory leads to a scramble. Meanwhile, Trish puts Dez and his arch nemesis, Chuck, through a competition to determine who will be a better Santa for the party.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6

8:00 p.m. – “A.N.T. Farm”

“silANT night” – Grundy tries to surprise the ANTs by dressing up as Santa Claus, but things take a surprising turn when the backup computer locks the kids in the school after its analytics deem Santa to be bad. It’s up to the ANTs to work together and convince the computer of the true meaning of the holidays so that it will unlock the building and they can return home for the holidays.

8:30 p.m. – “Dog With A Blog”

“Twas the Fight Before Christmas” – Avery sets out to create the perfect Christmas in anticipation of a visit from her Aunt, her mom’s ultra-competitive sister. A series of mishaps take place when Stan invites a stray dog named Sparky to spend the holiday with the family.

9:00 PM – “Wander Over Yonder”

“The Little Guy” – When the tiniest Watchdog cadet, Westley, is accidentally left behind on a planet, Wander and Sylvia befriend him and pretend to be his prisoners to help him reunite with Hater. Guest starring Aziz Ansari (“Parks and Recreation”) as Westley.

Stay tuned for more Fa-la-la-lidays!

fp+

According to Kenny the Pirate Disney is doing more testing that will restrict Fastpass+ usage in Epcot for November and December.  This test matches up with what Disney originally announced for FP+.  They are testing during a time where the Disney resorts are at some of the highest prices per night. This change will definitely make your day at Epcot a little less magical.

Those guests using Fastpass+ will be allowed to book only 1 headliner attraction and 2 other attractions per day.

Top 5 Disney World Freebies

MVMCP Sorcerer card
MVMCP Sorcerer card

MVMCP Sorcerer Card

Face it, a trip to Disney World can be expensive, but it’s worth it. And while it may be expensive, surprisingly, there are quite a few tangible freebies to be found while visiting the parks. Here is my list of the Top 5 Disney World Freebies.

Birthday & Anniversary Desserts – While I can’t guarantee that you’ll get a free dessert, if you inform your server that you’re celebrating a birthday or anniversary (or wear a button noting the occasion), then you could find a yummy Disney dessert sitting on your table after your meal. We were surprised with a dessert at 50’s Prime Time Café when we celebrated our anniversary several years ago. We never asked or mentioned our anniversary that we can remember, but our server was paying attention and noticed our buttons and brought us a dessert at the end of our meal. And boy was it yummy!

Character Drawings – Did you know that you can learn how to draw your favorite characters when you visit Hollywood Studios or DisneyQuest? This is one of our favorite activities in the parks and is a great way to just take a little break. It also usually ends in a competition to see who had the best drawing  between my husband and I since he’s a pretty talented artist, but I’m not too shabby either. When you’re done, you get to take your drawing with you. A tip for those who want to take part in this experience: bring a paper towel tube or a shipping tube to store your drawings in after you finish. It’ll keep them from getting wrinkled in a bag and they’ll be ready to frame when you get home. The Animation Academy is located within “The Magic of Disney Animation” attraction at Hollywood Studios. They also have animation drawing classes at DisneyQuest in Downtown Disney, but this requires a separate admission.

Towel Animals – If you stay on resort, then you’ve hopefully found those very cute towel animals left by Mousekeeping during your trip. I’m surprised at how many people didn’t know that you can take the towels animal home with you. Maybe it’s because no one ever told us we couldn’t, but we’ve always taken them back with us and it seems to be the case with many resort guests. They seem to hold up pretty well, as we still have the first one we brought home with us back in 2010 and it’s even survived a move with the stickers still intact.

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Cards This has become quite the popular game and there are definitely some serious players that you’ll encounter in the parks with their binders of cards. We’re still pretty much clueless on how to play and find ourselves using random cards, but those little cards make great souvenirs and young and old alike seem to love the game! The cards are completely free and you can get your pack each day at the Firehouse on Main Street, U.S.A. or behind the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square. As Disney describes it, you can “become an apprentice sorcerer and help the wizard Merlin fight the forces of evil in this interactive role-playing game.” If you attend MVMCP or MNSSHP, you can pick up your exclusive playing card at City Hall the night of the party (like the one pictured above being given to those attending this year’s MVMCP). And if you forget, we’ve found that you can take your event ticket back to City Hall during your trip and pick up your card.

Cups of Water We quickly discovered that Disney Parks will give you a free cup of ice water if you simply ask. This has saved us A LOT of money over the last few years since we have only been on the dining plan once and all our meal expenses are out-of-pocket. The best thing you can drink while in the parks, especially during the warmer months, is water. It’s so important to stay hydrated when you’re in the parks, so next time you’re thirsty, just head over to a quick service restaurant or stand and ask for a cup of water. Just a word of warning though – if you’ve ever visited Magic Kingdom and ordered a soft drink or water, then you know how bad the water tastes in the park (and in Kissimmee by the way), so be sure to bring a water mix-in for your cup of water when you’re visiting MK.

Honorable Mention: Ghirardelli Chocolate Square in Downtown Disney – This is always a stop of ours while at Downtown Disney. Just stop in the Ghirardelli Chocolate Shop and you’ll find someone handing out free chocolate squares. They’re more often than not the Caramel squares, but during Christmas they hand out the yummy peppermint bark squares!

So there you have it – my Top 5 tangible items to get for free at Disney World. There are a lot of free activities as well at Disney World, so be sure to take advantage of all that you can do and get without breaking the bank! What are some other freebies that you have found?

Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund Awards Sponsored by Disney

Hispanic Heritage

Making a difference for high-achieving college students, the Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund recently awarded scholarships to 14 local college students during an awards ceremony at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

More than 300 community leaders and supporters celebrated the students who were selected by a volunteer committee for their academic achievement and service to the community. For the first time this year, one of the students received an additional scholarship for his commitment to serving his community.

The annual event recognizes the students and raises funds for additional scholarships to support the dreams of local students of Hispanic heritage. Since the Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando was established in 2000, the organization has given more than $800,000 in scholarships to more than 200 Central Florida students.

“Disney understands that helping talented students reach their goals benefits our whole community,” said Lizette Valerino, executive director and founder of the scholarship fund.

The Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando is the largest non-profit in Central Florida committed to providing scholarships to college and university students of Hispanic heritage.
