Planning your first visit to Disneyland?  Is this your 10th visit?  Or are you a seasoned Disneyland visitor?   With all the new rides and attractions at the Disneyland Resort as well as the newly renovated Disneyland Hotel and good neighbor hotel discounts, now is the perfect time to visit.    Disney California Adventure is home to Cars Land, Tower of Terror and the extremely popular, Aladdin Show where our resident Genie puts on a different show every day as well as so many fun rides and attractions for young and not so young Disney Addicts.   Disneyland has the new Fantasy Faire and Mickey and the Magical Map along with all the favorite rides and attractions, Disneyland is famous for.

But first, you need to get to Southern California.   There are several airports you can fly into.  The biggest one is Los Angeles International (LAX), located about 35 miles from the Disneyland Resort.  All major airlines fly into LAX.   John Wayne (Orange County) is also an excellent airport to fly into as it is only 15 miles from Disneyland.    Jet Blue, Alaska, Delta and US Airways are the airlines currently flying into John Wayne Airport.   Ontario Airport and Bob Hope Burbank airports are also within a reasonable driving distance to the Disneyland Resorts.   If you are visiting So. California and would like to see our beautiful sights, you can chose to fly into San Diego Airport (3 hour drive to the Disneyland Resort)  and enjoy a few days visiting the world famous San Diego Zoo and Legoland before or after your visit to the Disneyland Resorts.

Need help with transportation to and from the Disneyland Resort?  Suggestions on hotel accommodations?  What to see and do?   Where to eat?   Our Disneyland Planning articles will be coming soon filled with tips and recommendations for your visit to the Disneyland Resort.

My name is Loretta and I am the Entertainment Writer for Chip and Co. as well as a Travel Agent for Destinations in Florida.  As the preferred Earmarked Travel Agency for Chip and Co, I would be happy to answer your questions or help plan your next Amazing Magical Adventures to the Disney Parks.   Email me at [email protected] for a free quote.

Top 10 Tips for Visiting Disney World In The Peak Season

Disney World In The Peak Season

The summer months and the holidays are peak season at Walt Disney World. For many families, these times are the only times of year when everyone’s schedules work out just right for a family vacation. Because of this, the parks are often very crowded during these times, especially during the weeks of 4th of July and the week after Christmas. If you’re thinking of visiting Disney during peak season, don’t let the crowds discourage you. You can still have plenty of fun at Walt Disney World during peak season. In fact, 4th of July and Christmas my two favorite times of year to visit Mickey! Let’s take a look at the top 10 tips for visiting Disney World in the peak Season.

10. Stay On Property – There are many benefits for staying at a Walt Disney World resort. Not only do you get to stay at a uniquely themed hotel, but you are also eligible for several great Disney perks. Free transportation is provided to nearly anywhere you would want to go on Disney property. As a Walt Disney World hotel guests, you can also take advantage of extra time in the parks through Extra Magic Hours.

9. Bring A Mister Fan – If you will be traveling to Walt Disney World during the summer months, you will definitely want to bring a mister fan with you. The temperature in Orlando can get quite high in the summer, even reaching over 100 degrees on some days. A mister fan filled with ice water is a great way to combat the heat while waiting in line for your favorite attraction or walking around the parks.

8. Bring A Poncho Rain is fairly common at Disney World. Most days, especially during the summer, it will rain at least once. Usually the rain doesn’t last long; however, sometimes it does. Bring a poncho with you to the parks. When it does rain, you can continue having fun in the park instead of waiting out the rain inside.

7. Arrive Early – A great way to get ahead of the crowds at Disney is to arrive at the parks early. Mosts guests won’t arrive at park opening, so arriving early will allow you to experience greatly reduced crowds. If you arrive at Magic Kingdom about 15 minutes prior to the park’s  opening, you will even get to experience the Rope Drop – a great little show which I highly recommend seeing.

6. Extra Magic Hours – As I mentioned before, guests of Disney hotels can experience extra time in the parks called Extra Magic Hours. Find out which park will have Extra Magic Hours each day of your vacation and use it to your advantage. Generally, the park having Extra Magic Hours will be more crowded on that day. If you have a park hopper, you can go to a different (and hopefully less crowded) park during the majority of the day and then park hop to the Extra Magic Hour park for some extra time in that park.

5. Eat At Off-Hours – The lines at quick service restaurants around Walt Disney World can get quite long at common dining times. To avoid these long lines and get the most out of your time at Disney, I recommend eating at unusual times. This trick also works great if you’re having trouble getting the  ADR you want. Since most people will eat at the normal times, you may have more luck requesting an ADR at an off-hour. If you do get hungry prior to lunch or dinner, just grab a snack to tide you over until meal time.

4. Find Your Parade Viewing Location Early – The parades at Walt Disney World are popular. In order to get a great viewing location, you will need to arrive early – especially for the Main Street Electrical Parade. In fact, I recommend claiming your spot for the Main Street Electrical Parade at least an hour ahead of time.

3. Character Dining – The lines to meet character in the parks can get quite long, especially for characters from newer films. Waiting in these lines can take up a good bit of time which could be spent visiting attractions. A great way to avoid these long lines but still get to meet your favorite characters is to make ADRs for character dining. You can find a list of Disney World character dining options here.

2. Go To Popular Attractions First – When you arrive at the parks in the morning, be sure to visit some of the more popular attractions first. For the first hour or two the parks are open, many of the popular attractions will have a much shorter wait than they will later in the day.

1. Take Advantage of Disney’s FASTPASS – As a Disney park guest (whether or not you are staying on property), you have FREE access to one of Walt Disney World’s greatest services – FASTPASS. This service allows you to come back to certain attractions at specified times for a greatly reduced wait time. Using Disney’s FASTPASS system will allow you to experience a greater number of attractions throughout your vacation since you won’t be spending so much time waiting in long lines.

SeaWorld Returns First Manatee of the year, Begins Care for Two More

This morning, an adult female manatee was returned to the waters of Blue Spring State Park in Orange City, Fla., after receiving care and rehabilitation at SeaWorld Orlando for the last year.

“Piggy” was rescued due to cold stress by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) from St. John’s River in Palatka, Fla. on February 7, 2013. Following her rescue, Piggy was transported to SeaWorld Orlando for medical care and rehabilitation. Over the past year, Piggy has received continual treatment, including antibiotics, fluids and other supportive care. After being medically cleared for today’s return, the 725-pound manatee was transported by SeaWorld’s Animal Rescue Team to Blue Spring State Park, a designated manatee sanctuary.

In addition to today’s return, an adult female manatee was rescued yesterday from Blue Spring State Park. The SeaWorld Orlando Rescue Team was called to assist with her rescue after the FWC noticed the animal was emaciated, lethargic and behaving abnormally. This is not the first time SeaWorld Orlando has provided care to this manatee, who has been identified as Georgia. In 1991, an orphaned calf at the time, she was rescued from Brunswick, Ga, and was brought to SeaWorld Orlando for care until she was returned to Blue Spring State Park in 1997. She was close to six years of age, more than 10 feet long, and weighed 1,635 pounds at the time of her return.

Seventeen years and six calves later, the nearly 11-foot-long manatee was rescued again by the SeaWorld Orlando Rescue Team with assistance from FWC staff and volunteers. She was then transported to SeaWorld Orlando yesterday, where the park’s animal care team and veterinary staff performed a complete health exam and began providing an antibiotic treatment and fluids. Georgia will continue to be monitored and more testing will be done to determine what medical attention the large manatee needs.

In addition, the FWC also located an orphaned female calf in the DeSoto Canal near St. Petersburg, Fla., late yesterday. The 122-pound calf is a little over four feet long and was determined to be a dependent calf. Upon her arrival at SeaWorld Orlando, she was given a full health assessment and will continue to be monitored and provided around-the-clock care. The calf joined four other orphaned manatees that were rescued late last year.

In collaboration with the government and other members of accredited stranding networks, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment operates one of the world’s most respected programs to rescue ill and injured marine animals, with the goal to rehabilitate and return to the ocean. SeaWorld animal experts have helped 23,000 animals in need – ill, injured, orphaned and abandoned – for more than four decades. So far this year, SeaWorld Orlando has rescued three manatees and returned one after today’s return.

The Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP) is a cooperative group of non-profit, private, state, and federal entities who work together to monitor the health and survival of rehabilitated and released manatees. Information about manatees currently being tracked is available at www.wildtracks.org.

If you see injured marine animal, you can help by calling the FWC hotline at 1(888) 404-3922 or by dialing *FWC on a cellular device.

Disney Wedding Ideas… No Travel Required

Wedding

Ever dream of having that perfect fairytale wedding? I know I have. Walt Disney World, along with other Disney locations, offer the opportunity to your perfect princess bash. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford these packages or simply can’t bring their whole family down to the Sunshine State. Here are just a few ways to incorporate Disney into your wedding in a subtle and beautiful way. Let’s get started!

1. Invitations, Save the Dates, Thank Yous, etc.

Let your guests know the theme of your wedding right away with the first introduction of your big day on your save the dates and invites. Personalize your stationary with your wedding colors, season of wedding, favorite princess or movie characters or anything else you can think of!

2. Disney Inspired Wedding dresses

Wedding dress designer Alfred Angelo has a gorgeous collection of Disney princess inspired bridal gowns, bridesmaid and flower girl dresses as well as accessories and invitations. There is definitely a dress for everyone as the styles are all across the board and prices are budget friendly!

3. Escort Cards and Favors

Like every other aspect of your Disney wedding, there are a million different ways this can go. Depending on your budget, theme, resources, etc. you can get quite creative with this one! One idea I saw via Pinterest was to use paper “fastpasses” (which are sadly going extinct!) and indicate the guest and their table, which are named after rides. Sometimes escort cards can double as the favor but if you choose not to do that, there are plenty of Disney inspired ways to give your guests a magical favor. I seen everything from gourmet Mickey shaped cookies to Disney parks trading pins. Let your imagination run wild.

4. Table Centerpieces

Going off of #3, this is another way to tie things together with your invites, escort cards and theme. Disney inspired centerpieces can be as obvious as a giant floral Mickey head or as subtle as a beautiful red rose under a clear vase. Tables could be named for favorite characters, rides, movies, famous couples, resort and plenty more!

5. (My favorite) Cake!

Depending on your theme, wedding cakes and desserts can be Disney themed to a tee! With a serious sweet tooth, I’ve spent plenty of time staring at the stunning cakes made by the talented pastry chefs in Walt Disney World. Luckily, there are extremely talented pastry chefs and cake artists everywhere who can replicate a look you love! Your cake can be as simple or in-your-face-drenched-in-Disney as you want.

6. Guest Book

This is a fun way to get creative with something that you’ll get to keep and display forever! There are 3 ideas I particularly like and want to share with you. The first is to use an autograph book, easily purchased online, and ask everyone to leave their autograph and well wishes. You’ll love flipping through those pages for years to come. The next two are both inspired by the movie UP! The first is you and your spouses “adventure book.” You can purchase handmade versions or make your own and paste pictures of your adventures thus far for your guests to sign near. Lastly, is the UP! inspired thumbprint signing mat where your guests ink their thumbs, leave a print (a balloon) and sign their name.

7. Ear Hats

I love this idea! Show your love for the Mouse by wearing ear-hats for pictures or during your reception (and of course, on your honeymoon!)

8. Jewelry

Subtle Disney jewelry is an easy way to keep Mickey close to you throughout the day. Disney has created some beautiful jewelry that is totally wedding appropriate from rings to necklaces to cute little stud earrings.

9. Hidden Mickeys!

If you want to keep your Disney influences quiet on your wedding day, hidden Mickeys are definitely the way to go.

10. Disneymoon, duh.

After saving all that money on not getting married in Disney World, you definitely need to spend your honeymoon there, am I right?! I think so. Browse Chip and Co. for great restaurant reviews and romantic things to do with your new husband or wife. Be sure to get your Just Married pins!

Have you ever tried a Disney Themed Wedding? We would love to hear about it in the comment box below.

Is Pixar Making a ‘Star Wars’ Film?

Pixar Star Wars
Pixar Star Wars

Pixar Star Wars

The Disney/Lucasfilm merger may have just taken another unexpected turn: Rumors suggest that Pixar may be developing their own animated film set in the Star Wars universe. The rumor started over at Latino Review , who has had an excellent track record with breaking scoops on the Marvel Studios front. They say that, while there’s nothing known about what the project would entail, that the Pixar team has been handed the keys to the Star Wars sandbox, and are getting ready to play in it.

It wouldn’t be the first time that the Star Wars series has gone animated. In the 1980s, there was an Ewok and Droids animated series, and recently, we had ‘The Clone Wars’ series that aired on Cartoon Network, bridging the gaps between ‘Attack of the Clones’ and ‘Revenge of the Sith’. Pixar has done incredible work over the years, so I’d love to see them take a swing at the Star Wars universe. It’s a match made in a galaxy far, far away, and I for one hope it comes to light.

Are you excited by the idea of Pixar and Star Wars coming together? Let me know in the comments below!

Teen Girl Starts a Petition for Disney to Make a Plus Size Princess

Teen Girl Started online Petition for a Plus Size Disney Princess

This beautiful girl in the adorable pink dress picture above is Jewel Moore, she is a high school junior in Farmingville, Virginia. She started an online petition asking to Disney to create a plus size princess.

It has been said many times that Disney promotes an unrealistic expectation for girls to live up to.

She wrote this on her Change.org page, since Disney has such a huge influence on young girls, it should create a princess with a curvy body to ‘show support to a group of girls who are otherwise horrendously bullied by the media.’

As with everything, some people agree and some don’t. Many people have praised her for trying to end body shaming and create a more realistic image. Others think a ‘plus-size’ princess instead of  a normal-size one would be heading in the wrong direction. Some feel that the focus should be on having a ‘normal’ princesses with realistic and healthy dimensions instead.

Jewel’s petition, titled ‘Every body is beautiful‘ currently has 861 signatures so far.

She says that she created the page ‘because I’m a plus-size young woman, and I know many plus-size girls and women who struggle with confidence and need a positive plus-size character in the media.

I say good for her! I am all for it! How do you feel about this?

Frozen’s “Let it Go” is One Step Closer to a Big Oscar Win

Elsa
Elsa

Elsa

“Frozen” fans will be happy to hear that there is now one less song to beat in order to win the Best Original Song Oscar on March 2. The board at The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has disqualified a song called “Alone Yet Not Alone” by Bruce Broughton.

Bruce Broughton is a former member of the board. He was taken out of the running when it was found out that he was basically asking for the nomination. He emailed members of the academy during voting.

There has been no replacement nominee named.  So the “Let it Go” songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who also happen to be a team in real life, now have only 3 competitors:

  • “Happy” by Pharrell Williams from Despicable Me 2
  • “The Moon Song” by Karen O and Spike Jonze from Her
  • “Ordinary Love” by Paul Hewson, Dave Evans, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

Finger crossed for “Frozen”
