At the Disney Company Annual Shareholders Meeting, Bob Iger talked about the plans for the first-ever Pirates-themed land and a new Pirates of the Caribbean attraction for the Shanghai Disney Resort.

“Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most iconic attractions in our parks, and we really couldn’t imagine Shanghai Disneyland without Pirates,” said Bob Iger, Disney chairman and CEO. “We wanted to create a one-of-a-kind experience that would appeal to our Chinese guests while remaining true to its Disney heritage.”

This is the first time that a Disney Park will have a Pirates themed land. There will also an e-ticket ride called Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle of the Sunken Treasure.

“We are extremely proud of all the work underway to bring the Shanghai Disney Resort to life,” said Tom Staggs, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “And we’re excited to re-imagine the iconic world and characters of Pirates for the first time as an entire land that celebrates the creativity, imagination and adventure of both the fan favorite attraction and the popular film franchise.”

Disney Dining Plan is a huge part of any great Walt Disney World vacation.  When you are at Walt Disney World, part of the experience is the food and character dining experiences!  Along with increasing ticket prices, and now package prices have increased in general, Disney is also increasing their Disney Dining Plan prices.  This is one thing to note about Disney travel-as soon as you know when you’d like to go, book your trip with the $200 deposit.  Why?  Because you are locked into that rate.  Otherwise, prices could go up and your package total could change.  I’m going to share with you the details of the Disney Dining Plan Price Increase.

Disney’s Quick Service Dining Plan:

$41.99 per adult {ages 10+}, $16.03 per child {ages 3-9}.  This is an increase of $2.35 for adults and $.28 for children.  This plan entitles each guest to two quick service meals, one snack per night of their stay, as well as a resort refillable mug.  These rates are per person per night.

Disney’s Basic Dining Plan:

$60.64 per adult {ages 10+}, $19.23 per child {ages 3-9}.  This is an increase of $1.96 per adult and $.35 per child.  With the Basic Dining Plan, you are entitled to one table service meal, one quick service meal, and one snack per person per night of your stay.  You also receive a resort refillable mug.  These rates are per person per night.

Disney’s Deluxe Dining Plan:

$109.53 per adult {Ages 10+}, $29.51 per child {ages 3-9}.  This is an increase of $4.69 per adult and $.35 per child.  With the Deluxe Dining Plan, you are entitled to 3 meals per person to use however you choose-table service, quick service, and even at dinner shows.  As well as two snacks per person and a resort refillable mug.  These are per person per night.

So what does that mean for you?  It is a good idea to visit the Walt Disney World website and look at the menus.  Decide what you might order-entree, sides, dessert, drink-to see if you can benefit from the Disney Dining Plan.  Then nice thing about the Disney Dining Plan is that you can use your dining credits on anything on most menus.  It is really a moneysaver for a lot of families.  Remember, you need to make Dining Reservations 180 days in advance of your arrival date to ensure you get the times and locations you prefer.

Four Seasons

The soon to open Four Seasons at the Walt Disney World Resort gave the Chip and Co readers some insight to the new restaurants that will be at the hotel when it opens as well as introducing us to the executive chef, Fabrizio Schenardi. We will be at the opening of this all new resort and will hope to give you full reviews from the amazing restaurants.

Fabrizio Schenardi has joined the opening team of Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World® Resort as Executive Chef. Schenardi will oversee the culinary operations for the Resort’s five on-property restaurants, plus in-room dining and catering culinary operations.

“I’m excited to return to the central Florida area and bring some new, innovative cuisine options to Orlando,” says Schenardi, who lived in the Tampa area before joining Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in 2010 as Executive Chef for Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis. “The Resort will have so many options, so there’s going to be something for everyone to love.”

Schenardi has worked for the Pelagia Trattoria at Tampa Hotel International Plaza; the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and Spa in Dana Point, California; Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, in Los Angeles, California; and numerous other fine properties around the world.

Dining Concepts

Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort will offer a variety of dining concepts, available to both Resort guests and local Orlando area residents. From a swanky rooftop steakhouse concept to a lakeside Southern rotisserie grill and an Italian pizza and pasta family style restaurant, there is something for everyone.

Capa

A true highlight of the Resort will be Capa, the 17th-floor rooftop steakhouse and bar, featuring Spanish influenced cuisine in a romantic setting like no other. Capa’s diverse offerings range from freshly shucked oysters and Florida seafood to incredible small plates and expertly grilled cuts. An open kitchen and wood-burning grill allow diners to get close to the action, while those dining on the outdoor terrace enjoy views of the nightly fireworks. Capa, Spanish for a matador’s red cape, is decorated in black and white with bold hues of crimson accenting the space. An abstract painting conveying the movement of dust as it rises during the matador’s performance appears near the bar. Six traditional matador jackets flank the entrance to the private dining room, and a flowing red art installation travels across the ceiling, representing the flow of the matador’s cape. Capa, serving dinner only, will open in September 2014.

Ravello

Named for the Italian seaside town situated above the Amalfi coast, modern Italian cuisine is the specialty at Ravello, the all-day dining restaurant at Four Seasons. Breakfast offerings include an omelet station and traditional breakfast favourites. Dinner offers fresh pizza and bread from the wood-burning oven, regionally influenced Italian specialties, and the open kitchen’s pasta bar. Ravello will offer a “Goofy & Pals” Disney Character Breakfast on Thursdays and Saturdays, and select Tuesdays during peak school break periods.

Plancha

Whether taking a break from hitting the greens, or seeking a serene retreat, Plancha will delight with its fresh, bold flavour Cuban-American cuisine. Located at the Golf Clubhouse, Plancha – Cuban for grill – offers a picturesque lakeside setting. Signature dishes such as the Cubana sandwich, empanadas and chorizo burger offer an authentic taste of Cuba, and vibrant cocktails from the Mojito to the Hemingway Daiquiri are sure to please. Plancha will open in September 2014.

Lickety Split

For guests on the go, Lickety-Split provides delicious quick bites throughout the day. Café lattes and breakfast pastries, savoury quick bites, gelato and more will be offered at the colourful Lickety Split.

PB&G

Premium American barbecue dishes, fresh salads, frozen cocktails and mocktails, an extensive kids’ and teens’ menu with lots of healthy options: the Pool Bar & Grill offers a lively, fun and casual atmosphere. This smokehouse and rotisserie serves up pulled pork, rotisserie chicken, smoked brisket and house-made hot dogs and burgers with plenty of Southern charm. Brightly painted picnic tables, teak floorboards, and whimsical lighting elements such as lanterns and stringed lights give the space a fun vibe.

A girl’s guide to surviving Star Wars Weekend’s

SWW2014DC
SWW2014DC

sww

If you live in this Galaxy, chances are you have not escaped “the force” of Star Wars. If you have ever come in contact with the male species, chances are, you know about Star Wars. If you have a son, nephew, brother, husband…you know about Star Wars. You know that every pointy object can become a light saber, the Yoda voice is imperative when quoting the famous movie lines, and in their opinion…all women should look like Princess Leah in Return of the Jedi.

If you have a Star Wars fan in your family, It’s virtually impossible to escape attending a Star Wars Weekend; so i’m here to prepare you, my fellow females, to survive the force.

Even the most prepared vacation planners can be left with shoe prints on their plans during Star Wars Weekends. Everything you know about vacationing, touring plans, lines and character meet and greets is not valid here. This weekend is a marathon, not a sprint and it’s not for the faint of heart. In order to survive, you must use the force, the female force. Don’t head into Star Wars Weekends without these guidelines to the galaxy.

“Fear is the path to the Dark Side”: Don’t be intimidated. Aside from the level of the crowds at these events, the intensity is also very high. Hollywood Studio’s is filled with a very diverse crowd: families looking to share a unique experience with their children, groups of friends who are Star Wars Fans, adults who are intense FANatics, groupies, grown men acting like little boys and people you will think truly are from another galaxy. Don’t let this detour or distract you from what you want to get accomplished, the experience is what you make it!

“A Jedi gains power through understanding”: Know what you want to accomplish. If you have little one’s who just want to interact with characters, participate in Jedi training and just enjoy the event, then keep your map, autograph book, cameras and sharpees out and ready; characters can pop up anywhere, anytime; BE READY! If Jedi Training is on your priority list, head there in the morning to register, this is very popular and there are only a certain number of participants per show. Padawans must be between the ages of 4 and 12 and must be present to be registered. If you are interested in the limited edition merchandise, you’ll need to head to the backlot first thing in the morning as well. While the specific merchandise varies every year, special items include boxed pin sets, t-shirts, posters, artists renderings, etc. Each year the host of Star Wars Weekends changes and the visitors can vary from week to week. If you are interested in special guests, check the Disney website to see which weekend has your favorite star; but beware that these can change without notice! In the past, tickets for celebrity autographs have been distributed at the Indiana Jones show location. Ask a cast member for ticket distribution and autograph locations.

“The fear of loss is a path to the dark side”: set realistic expectations. Battling the crowds with a small child isn’t ideal; don’t plan to get everything done in one day; it won’t happen and you’ll spend your day being frazzled and disappointed instead of participating in the fun. Have in mind which things you’d like to accomplish on what day. For example: “today we want to do Star Tours, Jedi Training, visit the merchandise shop and meet Darth Vader”. Leave room and time in between to wander around the parks and peek for other characters. Don’t forget to look for Jedi Mickey, Princess Leah Minnie, Darth Goofy, and Storm Trooper Donald. If you see these guys appear, get in line FAST! They are hard to catch, the line fills extremely quickly and they are only out for a limited amount of time.

“Truly wonderful the mind of a child is”-if you gather only one useful piece of advice from this article, let it be this. You will see amazing things if you see the world through your child’s eyes. Although the thought of spending a weekend in Disney celebrating Star Wars didn’t thrill me; I have to admit, it was one of my favorite Disney trips. The memories we made that trip are so special, my step-son fought Darth Maul at Jedi Training, we met every single character that was in attendance and danced with them all at the Hyperspace Hooplah, Princess Leah recognized our little one at various times throughout the day, (he was smitten!) we saw celebrities, met some great Star Wars FANatics and built our own light saber. Our favorite part of the whole weekend came at the end; Hyperspace Hooplah; the “closing ceremony” of the weekend is a fun filled show with characters representing both sides of the force; including a small stage “variety” show, complete with a dance contest and all the fun a galaxy can hold.

Ladies, i’ve given you the guidelines to surviving the galaxy but it’s up to you to make your trip out of this world. Whether you have previous knowledge of Star Wars, are just trying to appease the men in your life, or couldn’t care less, I guarantee you’ll leave knowing the name of every creature in the galaxy and have a slew of extraordinary experiences to share.

New Disney Developments – Star Wars Land & Marvel Land coming to Disneyland?

Recently in the Walt Disney Shareholder meeting our friend Bob Iger released some interesting details on some of the changes coming to the Disney theme parks. Star Wars land is probably one of the hottest items out there along with adding Marvel to the theme parks. We are going to take a look at some of the highlights from the shareholders meeting.

First off Disney CEO Bob Iger discussed that there is room for a “Star Wars Land” at Disneyland. I know many of you feared that they would get rid of the classic Nemo attraction in order to make room for “Star Wars Land”, well he confirmed that Nemo will keep swimming, for now.

However he did hint that that something new may be coming along:

“We are looking at opportunities for Marvel and ‘Star Wars,’” Iger said. “You can expect that there’s more ahead for Disneyland.”

Does this mean that Disney will be doing more with Marvel at the US theme parks? I hope so…

In other “Star Wars” news, Iger also revealed that “Star Wars: Episode VII,” will be set 30 years after “Return of the Jedi” — part 6 of what will eventually be a 9 part series. This movie is set for release in 2015. Stay tuned for more details from our resident nerd Patrick as he has more juice details to share.

Finally Just in case you haven’t heard yet, there will also be sequels to Cars and The Incredibles movies. I don’t know about you but I hope Disney does a good job on the Incredibles. Like they did for Toy Story 3.

Wow that was a bunch of Disney, Star Wars, Marvel News wrapped all in one post. Whew!

Maleficent

My favorite villain, Maleficent, will be in theaters on May 30th. However if you can’t wait until than you might be able to get an extended sneak peak at the Disney World and Disneyland theme parks!

Starting April 18, they will be showing an extended preview at Disney’s California Adventure Park in the Bug’s Life Theater, and at Walt Disney World you will have to head to Hollywood Studios in the ABC Sound Studio for your preview.

With the 24 hour event coming up just before the May 30th release date for Maleficent will we see Disney celebrating the movie like they did last year for Monsters University?

I have been saying for years that Disney should do more with the villains. Are you a villains fan? Let me know in the comment box below.

‘Muppets Most Wanted’ Review

Muppets Most Wanted Poster
Muppets Most Wanted Poster

Muppets-Most-Wanted-Poster

It’s time to start the music. It’s time to light the lights. It’s time to meet the Muppets once again in  ‘Muppets Most Wanted‘, the eighth theatrical film in the continuing adventures of everyone’s favorite Frog led gang. Back in 2011, the characters made a huge comeback in ‘The Muppets’, a new rebooted continuation of the series, that starred, as well as being written by, Jason Segel, and directed by James Bobin. The film was a smash hit, and brought the Muppets back to the limelight in the best way possible, as well as introducing us to the newest Muppet, Walter. Not long after the first film’s release, a sequel was commissioned, which would see James Bobin return to direct, and Segel’s co-writer, Nicholas Stoller, coming back to pen the screenplay. Something that was made abundantly clear as ‘Muppets Most Wanted’ began, was that the meta nature of the last few films was still there, but so much of the heart and soul that Segel brought to the film seemed to be lacking, and the film seems to know it too.

Muppets Most Wanted‘ opens immediately after the final moments of ‘The Muppets’, and sees the characters at a loss at what to do now. When a mysterious gentlemen named Dominic Badguy (Ricky Gervais) arrives, he offers to be the group’s new manager. Kermit is reluctant, but gives in to the demands of everyone else, against his better judgment. But Dominic hasn’t been completely honest, and is actually working with Constantine, the world’s number one criminal, and almost identical look alike to Kermit. Tailed by a French Inspector, Jean Pierre Napoleon (Ty Burrell), as well as a Russian prison warden, Nadya (Tina Fey), the Muppets unwittingly find themselves caught in the middle of a international capper, where their adventure goes from fun to crazy in quick succession.

When you think of The Muppets, you think of their crazy adventures, but not just that, the heart inside what the story they’re trying to tell is. That’s something that has always made the best films in their series stand taller than the lesser entries, and the last film, ‘The Muppets’, really showed that. The core story of Walter, a huge Muppet fan who wasn’t sure if he was a man or a muppet, really worked well. You loved the character, and you cared about his story. Unfortunately, ‘Muppets Most Wanted’ does a story we’ve seen before, where The Muppets don’t realize how much they need Kermit, and when he is switched for Constantine, no one notices he’s gone. So while the story of Kermit is center stage, it’s not exactly something we haven’t seen before. Especially considering how much effort was spent on Walter in the last film, to have him put on the back burner for most of the film, is irritating. Segel’s behind the scenes touch on the last film gave the film that extra heart, as he loved the characters and knew how they ticked, so the film worked really well for that reason. It was also new and fresh, because we’d never really seen the idea of man or muppet before. Here, it’s just not the same, and it feels very “been there, done that”.

Thankfully, while the film doesn’t have the heart of its predecessor, it has got some great humor. One thing that has always made The Muppets stand above the rest is that their humor is smart, and it will please kids and adults alike. There’s nothing talking down to kids, or being so dumb that parents aren’t enjoying themselves. The jokes are fast and furious, and they hit a wide range. One personal favorite comes during the film’s opening number, ‘We’re Making a Sequel’, the filmmakers managed to fit in a reference to the Ingmar Bergman film, ‘The Seventh Seal’, which is wonderful. The film also features some great homages to film’s like ‘The Pink Panther’, ‘The Great Escape’, and so many more. For adults, these are some of the best parts of the film, and they’ll put a big smile on their face. Kids will laugh at much of the absurdity of the situations, and the way the characters interact together. If there’s one thing that Bobin and Stoller do well, is balancing the humor between childish and smart, and that makes the film work that much better. The music is quite good as well, but it’s too bad there’s not a great show stopping tune, like the last film’s ‘Man or Muppet?’, which is one many still find themselves humming two years later.

As fun as so much of the film is, it just seems like too many of The Muppets don’t get enough screen time. The sequel is so cameo heavy, to the point that it’s almost distracting, that it takes away from time that we could spend with our favorite characters. Characters like Gonzo, Walter, and Fozzie Bear seem to be relented to small parts, where they finally become important in the third act. Though, Constantine, the film’s central villain, is a wonderful character, and is a great new addition to the series. He’s just over the top, and so much fun, and his presence almost makes up for the other characters short time on screen. The human actors are all really wonderful, and fit so well into the world. Ricky Gervais is so good as Dominic Badguy, and he brings a fun sleaziness to the character. Ty Burrell’s Jean Pierre is a great send up to Peter Sellers’ Inspector Clouseau, from the ‘Pink Panther’ series of films, and he’s so over the top and fun. His work with Sam Eagle, who actually gets a great chunk of screen time, prove to be some of the film’s most memorable scenes. Tina Fey is wonderful as Naday, the Russian Prison warden, and she brings the film a lot of laughs. She spends a bulk of hte movie with Kermit, and the two play off each other so well.

There’s a reason the Muppets are most wanted, because they continue to steal our hearts. While the film doesn’t feature the most emotionally satisfying arc in the series, like the previous film did, the film still has a sweet core. Not all the characters get a lot of moments to shine, but at least the humor is there and makes the film work. The music  is good, the musical numbers are fun, and the film features some new interesting and great characters. Kids and adults are sure to be pleased with the newest entry in the Muppets franchise, as are fans of the series, and it’ll be fun to see where the series will go from here.

When Dory said “just keep swimming” in 2003’s Oscar®-winning film “Finding Nemo,” she could not have imagined what was in store for her (not that she could remember). Ellen DeGeneres, voice of the friendly-but-forgetful blue tang fish, revealed details today about Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory”—an all-new big-screen adventure diving into theaters on June 17, 2016

“I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time,” said DeGeneres. “I’m not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating ‘Toy Story 16.’ But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It’s got a lot of heart, it’s really funny, and the best part is—it’s got a lot more Dory.”

Director and Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton takes audiences back to the extraordinary underwater world created in the original film. “There is no Dory without Ellen,” said Stanton. “She won the hearts of moviegoers all over the world—not to mention our team here at Pixar. One thing we couldn’t stop thinking about was why she was all alone in the ocean on the day she met Marlin. In ‘Finding Dory,’ she will be reunited with her loved ones, learning a few things about the meaning of family along the way.”
