Helen Mirren The Hundred Foot Journey

The trailer for DreamWorks The Hundred-Foot Journey is now available on Yahoo! Movies. First a Little background about the movie.

In “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is a culinary ingénue with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch. Displaced from their native India, the Kadam family, led by Papa (Om Puri), settles in the quaint village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France. Filled with charm, it is both picturesque and elegant – the ideal place to settle down and open an Indian restaurant, the Maison Mumbai. That is, until the chilly chef proprietress of Le Saule Pleureur, a Michelin starred, classical French restaurant run by Madame Mallory (Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren), gets wind of it. Her icy protests against the new Indian restaurant a hundred feet from her own, escalate to all out war between the two establishments – until Hassan’s passion for French haute cuisine and for Mme. Mallory’s enchanting sous chef, Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon), combine with his mysteriously delicious talent to weave magic between their two cultures and imbue Saint-Antonin with the flavors of life that even Mme. Mallory cannot ignore. At first Mme. Mallory’s culinary rival, she eventually recognizes Hassan’s gift as a chef and takes him under her wing.

The Walt Disney Company Donates $3 Million to Emergency Care Efforts at Arnold Palmer Hospital

Arnold Palmer Hospital
Arnold Palmer Hospital

Arnold Palmer Hospital

The Walt Disney Company has presented a $3 million gift to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children to help fill a critical need in the treatment of the youngest patients at the hospital’s Bert Martin’s Champions for Children Emergency Department & Trauma Center.

The gift will enable the purchase and installation of a new 3T MRI machine that will serve as a critical first step in the treatment of children in need of emergency and trauma care in addition to supporting other key pediatric programs at Arnold Palmer Hospital.

“Our friends at The Walt Disney Company have been great partners to Arnold Palmer Hospital since the day we opened our doors almost 25 years ago,” said John Bozard, president of the Arnold Palmer Medical Center Foundation. “We’re delighted that our partnership continues to this day as we look for new and innovative ways to extend our patient-centered philosophy and heighten the care we provide for children.”

Currently, Arnold Palmer Hospital has one Flash CT scanner and one 1.5T MRI machine within its Imaging Center. A growing patient population and the expansion of key pediatric specialty programs have significantly increased the demand for the existing MRI machine.

The new 3T MRI machine ensures patients receive the highest level of care by providing more detailed images faster than ever. It also improves patient safety by providing a radiation-free imaging option. Also, by adding a new machine, the patient experience will be enhanced for both child and family.

Providing quality pediatric care with the latest technology is critical for Central Florida and its dynamic community of local residents and millions of visitors from around the world who come here to visit theme parks and attractions. Orlando Health values its longstanding relationship with The Walt Disney Company, who proudly supports children’s hospitals across the country and is focused on improving the quality of life of children and families.

“Disney’s commitment to the health and happiness of children and families can be traced back to our founder, Walt Disney, who frequently visited children in hospitals and guided company giving toward supporting children in need,” said George A. Kalogridis, president of Walt Disney World Resort. “Here in Central Florida, Disney’s gift to Orlando Health will enable medical staff to more quickly diagnose children in their greatest hour of need. We’re pleased to support Orlando Health’s commitment to providing life-saving care for young patients.”

I am local and I can tell you this is a great hospital!

Making your Disney ADRs {Advanced Dining Reservations} is a must if you have the Disney Dining Plan.  Can you imagine the chaos-and time wasted-if Disney didn’t strongly encourage you to make these at 180 days in advance?  If you are like me, you are up at 6AM on the Disney website, logged into your My Disney Experience making ADRs for those hard to get restaurants.  What defines “hard to get” by Disney standards?  Popularity, times available, and location are all factors when it comes to making reservations.  Today I am going to share with you the Ten Disney Dining Reservations You Need to Make at 180 Days prior to arrival.

Be Our Guest:  As the newest restaurant on Disney property, and as part of the new Fantasyland expansion, Be Our Guest is nearly impossible to get if you do not try to get it at 180 days.  To get this reservation, keep in mind that they only serve one meal as table service.  Lunch is quick service, and can be FastPassed.  To get a reservation, try for a few days into your trip, as opposed to the beginning.  And, don’t try for a Mickey’s Not so Scary or a Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party night.  If this is a priority for you, then this is the one you should try first.

Cinderella’s Royal Table:  Cinderella’s Royal Table still is a very popular location for princess dining-and eating in Cinderella’s Castle is a “must” for a lot of Disney travelers.   Since Cinderella’s serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you do have a wide variety of times.  However, that doesn’t take away from its popularity-particularly if you are timing it with a Bibbiddi Bobbidi Boutique reservation at the castle.

Chef Mickey’s:  Chef Mickey’s serves breakfast and dinner at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.  This location is extremely popular, as it houses the “Fab Five”.  Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto all at one meal.   Like Cinderella’s Royal Table, a challenge with Chef Mickey’s can be “timing”.  Many families try to time this so they can see Wishes afterward, or get to the Magic Kingdom at a decent time in the morning.   This is a GREAT dining location for your first or last days of your trip.

California Grill:  California Grill is located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.  This is a very popular restaurant-particularly with couples who are looking for a nice evening out.  They also only serve dinner, so your times for this location are limited.  If you dine before the fireworks, you can bring back your receipt and be readmitted to enjoy Wishes from here.  How fun!

TRex:  TRex is located at Downtown Disney.  You may not think that this would be a popular location, but it can be! Since they are open later into the evening, sometimes the “good” dinner times are taken quickly.  So if you want a time for a more reasonable dinner, like before 9PM, you should make this one a priority as well.    They serve lunch and dinner, an the prehisotric atmosphere is very popular with families!

Le Cellier Steakhouse:  Le Cellier Steakhouse is located at Disney’s EPCOT park in the Canada pavilion of World Showcase.  Widely known for the “best steak on Disney property”, Le Cellier is a very popular restaurant.  They serve lunch and dinner here.  Many guests enjoy the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup, as well as the wide selection of steak offerings.

Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party:  While not exactly a “restaurant” experience, this popular dessert buffet at Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park is very popular and sometimes hard to get.   Served at the Tomorrowland Terrace restaurant, and with an impressive view of Wishes while you eat all the dessert you can, this dining experience is a fun event for the whole family.  You do need to pay for it in advance when you book it.

Yak and Yeti Restuarant:  I’m sure there are more “difficult” locations to get an ADR for.  But, Yak and Yeti make the list anyway.   This location serves lunch and dinner at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.  I chose this because it is only open as late as Animal Kingdom is open.  So, if you are planning a meal here for dinner, and Animal Kingdom closes at 5PM that evening, be sure to get your reservation ASAP.

O’hana:  O’hana is located at Disney’s Polynesian Resort.  This restaurant is VERY popular-it’s the only location where you can dine with Lilo and Stitch!  They only serve breakfast with these two feisty characters, and dinner is a traditional Hawaiian experience!  Another factor that makes it difficult is timing it for Wishes. If you want a dinner that coincides with Wishes, try to make an earlier dinner and watch Wishes from the Polynesian Resort beach area.

Sanaa:  While in the same location as Boma, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Sanaa is one of the more popular locations because of the view.  We all know that Disney dining is an experience!  Sanaa is no exception.  The views of the animals and bird species is nothing short of impressive.

I hope this list has saved you some frustration, and has helped you prioritize your Disney Dining Reservations!  Being prepared as early as possible will make it stress free and easy!

Must Get Disney Dining Reservations at Disneyland

carthay circle restaurant 00
carthay circle restaurant 00

Disneyland Resort is not short of fantastic eateries. Our family’s itinerary often completely revolves around our dining reservations. With that said, you will definitely want to take note of the following restaurants and be sure that you are requesting reservations 60 days prior to your visit.

carthay-circle-restaurant-00

Character Meals:

This category of restaurants are the most important to schedule a reservation, especially during peak travel periods. Goofy’s Kitchen, Storytellers Café, and Ariel’s Grotto fill up quickly and far in advance. Minnie & Friends at the Plaza Inn and Surf’s Up! Breakfast With Mickey & Friends at PCH Grill aren’t much better.

Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel
Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel

World of Color dining packages:

Each restaurant that participates in the World of Color dining package has a limited number of passes they can give out for each show. Because of this, it is highly suggested you make reservations as soon as you can 60 days prior to your visit. This is especially true for Carthay Circle. Carthay Circle is one of the best restaurants in the entire resort, and reservations go quickly with or without the dining package.  Other restaurants that participate in the dining package are Ariel’s Grotto and Wine Country Trattoria.

Other popular restaurants:

In addition to Carthay circle, other restaurants where you will absolutely need reservations are: Blue Bayou, Napa Rose, and with its immense growing popularity (and rightfully so); Big Thunder Ranch BBQ. These are some of the most popular table service restaurants on the entire resort, and walk-ins are very rarely accommodated. Café Orleans is a part of this list during peak travel times.

Blue Bayou in Disneyland Park
Blue Bayou in Disneyland Park

Downtown Disney restaurants:

Rainforest Café is always packed. During peak travel times, you can expect up to a two hour wait for a table. Reservations can be made by calling them directly at (714) 772-0413. Other restaurants you’ll want to consider reservations for are Naples Ristorante e Pizzera and Crossroads at House of Blues, especially on Sundays for their Gospel Brunch or other major music events.

Making Reservations:

You can make reservations at Disneyland Resort restaurants up to 60 days in advance from the day you want to dine. Unlike Walt Disney World, you do not get an extra 10 day grace period if you are staying on the resort. Reservations can be made through Disneyland Dining at (714) 781-DINE or online here.

Pose and Smile! At These Top WDW Photo Op Spots

AK Tree Adults
AK Tree Adults

AK Tree Adults

My favorite WDW trip souvenir by far is always the photos I take – I love capturing moments and memories, and I love that there are so many great places to do so at Disney! There’s obviously the more popular places like in front of Cinderella’s Castle, or the Tree of Life (my family clearly loves to pose there, don’t we look cute?!) – but there are tons of other places to snap a great picture too – so here are my Top 5 “Off The Beaten Path” Photo Op Spots:

photoop CastleSide

The front of Cinderella’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom is beautiful, but can definitely be crowded and tough to get a decent shot without a ton of extras in the background. I like to head over towards Liberty Square and get a picture posed by the side of the Castle on the bridge – it tends to be mostly empty, and is pretty beautiful at night when the Castle is all lit up

photoop Rose

Another alternative to the busy Partners statue area in front of the Castle is to head towards Tomorrowland to the Rose Garden – where you’ll find adorable topiaries and a perfect place to pose with your special someone!

photoop TofT

When you head over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, your first instinct may be to pose for a group shot in front of the Sorcerer’s Hat – which is nice of course, but since I am a HUGE Tower of Terror fan – I actually prefer to get my picture taken in front of the Hollywood Tower Hotel instead – it is easy to get both people and the Hotel in the background, and it’s a very pretty area to take a picture in

PhotoOp GreatMovie

Another great spot to snap some pictures is over at The Great Movie Ride in Hollywood Studios – the building itself is beautiful and great backdrop for posed shots, but I personally really enjoy getting some fun shots of my family and I putting our hands and feet in the celebrity impressions in front of the building. Have everyone in your family take a look around and get a picture of them trying to match their hands up to their fave celeb!

photoop Everest

Mount Everest is the giant mountain that houses the awesome Expedition Everest ride (which you must check out if you haven’t – it’s a roller coaster that even goes backwards!) over in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and if you stop on your way there you can get a great shot across the water with the mountain in the distance (and if you listen closely, you might just be able to hear the screams of the Everest riders as they encounter the elusive Yeti!). On a clear day the sun gleams off the water and makes it a perfect spot to take a family photo

Not sure how to find these or other photo op spots? Just look for the Disney PhotoPass photographers – they can help make sure you get a great picture that will be perfect for framing or for your vacation album!

Meet the Stars of Disney’s Million Dollar Arm Movie

MillionDollarArm534ef7e6dd586
MillionDollarArm534ef7e6dd586

MillionDollarArm534ef7e6dd586

I had the opportunity to meet the stars of Disney’s Million Dollar Arm Movie, Suraj Sharma and Madhur Mittal.   As I walked into the beautiful Loews Hotel in Hollywood and was escorted to the 19th floor for a private 2:1 meeting, I was nervous with interview questions running through my head.  Finally after what seemed like hours, (but actually only 10 minutes) I was up at bat so to speak.  With tape recorder tightly grasped in one hand and camera in the other, I entered a curtained off section of the conference room   There I came face to face with Suraj Sharma and Madhur Mittal.   Both young men stood up and firmly shook my hand with the biggest smiles on their faces.   They were very happy to see me promoting their movie as I was wearing my Million Dollar Arm Jersey.    Madhur Mittal shared that having someone come up and praise them and their movie is what they work so hard for, having someone come up and give them praise is the best feeling.   As I sat down and asked my first question, the boys, full of energy and happy to share the spot light, began excitedly talking about their experiences.

Madhur Mitall (who also starred in Slumdog Millionnaire) and has been working in the film industry since a young age, was the more outspoken of the two.  However, both young men were able to play off one another and answer and finish each other’s comments with the ease of true professional.

Suraj Sharma (star of Life of PI) shared that one of the biggest reasons, they did the movie was the fact that this was happening in their country and it was all new to them.   Friends and family and even Suraj and Madhur did not know about the story of Dinesh and Rinku.   He continued saying how there was always something positive and negative in the sports world, but what the two guys (Dinesh and Rinku) did was unbelievable and people needed to know.     This was huge and it was important.  Madhur continued saying how Dinesh and Rinku were pushed into a very new and unique situation.   The fact they were two very different personalities, with Rinku being the playful, and energetic one who adapted to the US and now is very comfortable here.    Dinesh is on the other end  of spectrum is shy and homesick and connected to his homeland.    Suraj and Madhur, talked about how Dinesh, hours after landing in Atlanta arrived at the movie set and talked about already being homesick.   Suraj mentioned the great friendship that developed between Rinku and Dinesh, completely respecting and understanding one another while pushing each other to do better.  Madhur continued saying how that same scenario happened between he and Suraj.    The chemistry between the stars were instant and something Madhur had never experienced before.    They both feel very strongly about how the story needs to be told so the world knows. “The athletes deserve the recognition”    Suraj also shared how the film will help finance and bring a change in how other sports are supported and viewed back home (India)  because Cricket has always been the only recognized sport.

I asked Madhur who started acting at 5, and Suraj who is a newer actor, if their own personal experiences were similar to Dinesh and Rinku?   Madhur laughed and said, yes, they were both in the same situation, because none knew about the sport of baseball and all had to learn and perform, as actors or athletes, in a very short span of time.    Not only learn the sport, but having to gain weight and buff up to look like athletes.    Actually, Rinku and Suraj and Dinesh and Madhur are nothing like one another and yet there were so many similarities.    Suraj continued sharing how they were all thrown into the spot light and the homesickness.   Madhur however, believes how it is important to portray the characters as much as possible but also to bring a bit of your own personal perspective into the characters.   “if they (producers) wanted us to be just like Rinku and Dinesh, they would have hired them instead.”

I did not get my last question in about their thoughts regarding the recent Million Dollar Arm Pitching contest held at Disneyland, WDW and New York, but based the time spent with them, I can safely say, they would have thought it was a magnificent idea as again it continues to promote the movie and in turn, brings the story to the world.   Both are very honored to be a part  of the opportunity to increase the awareness of the movie.   Not only to share an incredible  story of their fellow countrymen, but to also give hope to upcoming athletes, in India and all over the world.

A tap on the shoulder signaled the end of my interview.   Suraj and Madhur stood up and thanked ME for taking the time to visit.   It was a true pleasure to have met such polite, articulate, and extremely sweet  young men.   Their behavior throughout the interview showed well mannered,  yet funny  and energetic young men who have a great future ahead.

Million Dollar Arm movie is based on the story of JB Bernstein’s quest to find a talented Indian Cricket pitcher and turn him into an American League Pitcher with the major leagues.

Don’t miss Suraj and Madhur in Disney’s Million Dollar Arm in theatres May 16th.   Enjoy this clip of the Million dollar arm movie.

Poly

I go to Disney’s Polynesian Resort quite a bit. Don’t get me wrong I have never stayed there, but one day I will I hope. I love the atmosphere and the food and the stores.

When I heard that they were going to remove the waterfall I was shocked. My daughter and I love it and I know many others enjoy it too. After a busy day at the parks it is very relaxing.

Well someone started a petition, in hopes that Disney will take notice of how many people love this beautiful waterfall and don’t want it removed. Many people think that petitions do nothing but you never know!

If you want to try and save the waterfall go here and sign your name.

Cherry Tree Lane coming to Downtown Disney Marketplace

Cherry Tree Lane

Ladies, you know the right accessories can brighten your outfit and your day. If you agree with this, than you will want to run to Cherry Tree Lane. It is a new boutique coming to the Marketplace Co-Op at Downtown Disney Marketplace. It’s a high-end boutique, opening soon at Downtown Disney. The name was inspired by the street name where the Banks family resides in Disney’s “Mary Poppins.”

The merchandise includes, accessories including ballet flats, handbags,  jewelry, and more.

Don’t you love the added touches, like the matching umbrella?

Cherry Tree Lane will also sell bags by Dooney & Bourke, can you believe they have been at Disney Parks and Resorts for 5 years now.

Disney Dooney and Bourke at Cherry Tree Lane

The Disney Parks online store will carry a red and black version of this pattern shown above at a later date. The color sketch bags will only be released at this location at the Disney World Resort,  they will be at Disneyland Resort and online at a future date. I am loving the little pink one, but I am a sucker for anything pink!

Disney Vera Bradley Bouncing Bouquet

Last but certainly not least is the Disney Collection by Vera Bradley. Have you seen the latest pattern,  “Bouncing Bouquet” ? This new pattern will make its debut at Cherry Tree Lane once it opens. If you are looking for the previous patterns like  “Midnight With Mickey” or “Where’s Mickey” you will be able to get them at this boutique. Cherry Tree lane will also be the location to carry the“Mickey’s Perfect Petals” pattern which was recently released at the Epcot brunch on May 4.

It seems as though the “Just Mousing Around” pattern will no longer be available, from what I have been told. I was lucky enough to get that pattern in the hipster and the i.d. holder for a birthday present, so hopefully you got your hands on at least one from that pattern.

What do you think about the new pattern?
