Castle Season Six “Spoiler Free” DVD Review

Castle Season 6 DVD Review.
Castle Season 6 DVD Review.

Season 6 of Castle is finally coming to DVD, and this is why you need to grab this box set for yourself.

Castle is an American Crime drama on ABC. Castle follows the lives of the Mystery Novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), and Homicide Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). Over the seasons we’ve been able to watch the chemistry of these 2 characters grow and bloom. Together they’ve become an amazing crime fighting team, and given us many smiles and tears along the way.

Season 6 opens with Beckett saying yes to Castle’s proposal, and her new job as a federal agent. This is happy news, but presents the problem of them being separated as Beckett goes to DC. This season really was my favorite so far. Usually when the main protagonists of a show finally  get engaged, or married the chemistry starts to die out, that’s not the case in this season, if anything the sparks between them are even stronger. This season we really see Richard Castle’s vulnerability as he becomes the target of many unfortunate circumstances this season. We also see how his devotion to Kate while it may have the best intentions, can also be a crushing blow to her career and ultimately test the strength of their relationship.

The Season 6 DVD has 5 discs, and each one has some fun bonus features. For me the best part of owning a television series on DVD isn’t just getting to watch when ever I want, but also getting the extra layers from commentaries, and behind the scenes looks. Disc 1 probably had my favorite bonus feature which was the “character commentary”. The Character Commentary featured Seamus Dever and Jon Huertas performing as their characters Ryan and Esposito, and how their characters had to say on the events of the episode “Need to Know”. I really don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a television series bonus feature as much as I did this one. Another fascinating bonus feature was on Disc 5 “Castle in a Day with Stana Katic”. This is an on location feature with Stana Katic as she goes through a Day of Filming Castle. It was filmed during the season 6 finale, and not only gave us an inside look at all the things that bring such a powerful episode together, but gave us a more personal connection with Katic and her character Kate Beckett. Other bonus features included through out the season 6 dvds are deleted scenes, audio commentary from the directors, writers and actors, bloopers, and more.

If you love Castle, or you want to see why others love Castle, this is a box set worth checking out! I’ve only had the set for a few days and I’ve already watched it start to finish, and even watched the bonus features multiple times. Now to sit and eagerly await season 7!

Dooney & Bourke

Wow – what a week for shopahilics like me! Along with the exciting news about Disney Dreaming (the newest Disney Vera Bradley release), Disney has announced that EPCOT’s Food and Wine Festival will have more than just food masterpieces available! Check out the first Food and Wine Dooney and Bourke print – to be offered exclusively on Disney property (not online) during the festival!

According to Disney Parks Blog the Disney Design Group artists were inspired by marketing artwork featuring Chef Mickey Mouse. Three of the items will contain a unique leather hangtag that has the Food & Wine Festival logo (the wristlet will not have this hangtag).  The four new items will be released at the Festival Center in Epcot starting September 29.

The Festival Center is located between the Universe of Energy and Mission: SPACE pavilions in Future World. We will have these items on display in that location when the event kicks off on September 19. I can’t wait to see this bag in person – the dark base with the pops of color are just what I have been looking for in a Fall bag!

Once again, Chip and Co is partnering up with Mouse to Your House to offer you a piece of the magic – shipped right to your door! If you would like a Mouse to Your House shopper to hand pick a Food and Wine Festival bag just for you, simply fill out this form! They will examine each bag picked for excellent placement and to ensure there is no damage or flaws on the bag.

Which option is your favorite? I love the Letter Carrier (shown bottom left) because it is perfect for park hopping, or running errands! It has a great feature built in – the strap is adjustable to create a shoulder bag or a cross body!

Mickeys Halloween party

Mickey’s Halloween Party starts September 12 at Disneyland. Well, along with the adorable decorations around the parks you will also get some new merchandise to bring home.

You may have noticed that the artwork for this year’s Mickey’s Halloween Party merchandise looks familiar. That is because a similar logo is also being used on the merchandise at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, which is at the Magic Kingdom at Disney World.

The Halloween Time 2014 pin will release on September 12, as well as  the Mickey’s Halloween Party pins, the Halloween Screams pin and the Annual Passholder pin featuring the Hitchhiking Ghosts will release on September 26.

Dole Whips Return to “The Poly” at the New Pineapple Lanai.

Pineapple Lanai Sign

Pineapple Lanai Sign

A few weeks ago, I had the great fortune of being at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for the opening of the Pineapple Lanai and, once again, enjoy my favorite Disney treat, a Dole Whip!

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort (“the Poly” to friends and family!) has been undergoing re-imagineering for several months and temporarily relocated the quick service restaurant, Capt.Cook’s, where quests were able to get self serve Dole Whips. Since then, Capt. Cook’s was reopened without the Dole Whip machines.  On August 29, 2014, the Pineapple Lanai opened it’s “window” and once again joined  Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland and Tamu Tamu Refreshments in Animal Kingdom, and started serving that wonderful magic in a cup!

The self serve machines from Capt. Cook’s have been replaced by friendly, smiling cast members serving up Pineapple, Vanilla and Swirled flavored Dole Whips as well as Floats in pineapple juice and yes, you can use a snack credit from your dinning plan to get one. Also, to celebrate Disneyland’s 59th birthday, you can have your favorite flavor served in a souvenir Tiki Bowl or a Tiki Sipper for your floats for a limited time.
Tki Bowl and Sipper

The Pineapple Lanai is located right outside the lobby doors as you are walking towards the pool. It offers several tables where you can sit in the shade and enjoy your Dole Whip while taking in the beauty of the resort’s Polynesian garden.   It will be open from 12 p.m. and remain open up to 1 hour after Wishes at Magic Kingdom.

P.S. I claim bragging rights as my wife and I were the first guest to have Dole Whips from the Pineapple Lanai. So a great big thank you goes out to the management for the souvenir Tiki Bowl!

Get ready to relive every case of ABC‘s Castle season 6, available on DVD September 16th, 2014. Including even more Castle with never before seen bonus features!

Castle is an American Crime Drama, however what always leads me back is the “fun” that flows through the seasons. The chemistry between Richard Castle (Played By Nathan Fillion of Firefly fame) and  Kate Beckett (Played by Stana Katic) just draws you in making them one of my favorite crime fighting duos! The sixth season brought in a few new dynamics for the couple, so it will be a fun season to sit back and enjoy.

Synopis:

After Castle’s stunning romantic proposal to Beckett, what happens next? TV’s magnetic crime-fighting couple faces a whole new set of challenges as they juggle wedding plans and their most intriguing cases yet in ABC‘S Castle: The complete Sixth Season.

But Castle’s devotion to his new fiancee – and her fascinating line of work – jeopardizes her career and creates a chain of events that might separate them forever. Back on the home front/ Castle is none too pleased to discover his daughter has seemingly been captivated by, and now living with, her new, free-spirited boyfriend. It’s a season of surprises you won’t want to miss!

Trick or Treat? What to Splurge on and What to Pass on at the Main Street Confectionery

Confectionery
Confectionery

candy store

The enticing smells that waft through Main Street have a way of drawing you into the Main Street Confectionery. Everywhere you look, sugary treats of all shapes and sizes beckon you closer. The display case is filled with one temptation after another. How are you supposed to decide what to purchase as your splurge treat and what to pass up and leave behind for another hungry guest? Let me provide some suggestions that will hopefully help you to narrow down your search for the perfect Confectionery concoction.

  • Splurge: Cotton Candy – All the cotton candy in bags at the Disney Parks are made fresh each day. Nothing beats the smell of the spun sugar, and the way it melts on your tongue and sticks to your fingers. Throughout the day, you’ll be able to watch the Cast Members working the cotton candy machine, whipping up bag after bag of the colorful creation. I emphasize to splurge on the bags of cotton candy because Disney also sells smaller amounts in resalable plastic containers. While the portion controlled size may be tempting, this is not created in the park and is shipped in from a third party.
  • Pass: Cupcakes – They are fun. They are holiday themed. They are delicious. They are…not made in the store. The confectionery does not have an oven. This means, that any treat that would require the use of an oven is not prepared in store, and are not as fresh as some of the other items in the case. This goes for the cupcakes, brownies, cookies, and cake pops.
  • Splurge: Specialty Apples – Fresh apples are shipped in regularly to the Confectionery and are hand dipped and decorated in store by the Candy Makers. Instead of the cupcake, go for beautiful theming with this treat instead. You can even have your apple cut up into as many slices as you would like. I’m addicted to taking pictures, so I always ask to take a picture of my treat before they take it back to slice it for me. I think this is a common occurrence, as they never seem surprised by the request.
Pass: Jelly Beans – First, these are not a Disney specific treat, they are Jelly Belly and you can get these anytime, anywhere. Go for a Disney original when you are in the park. Second, the pricing for these are tricky. The Jelly Beans are charged by pound, however, as many guests make the mistake, one full bag does not equal one pound. In fact, if you fill the bag that is provided, you are looking at about $45.00 dollars or more in Jelly Beans. Skip it.
  • Splurge: Large Mickey Mouse Rice Crispy Head – I’m talking about the BIG ones – the ones that are bigger than your own head. These too are made fresh in the Confectionery, and if you are in the store while they are being prepared, orders can be customized to your preferences. These make great take home souvenirs. I always pick one up and take it into work with me to spread the Disney magic around the office. Also, if you are traveling with a larger group, this is a great treat to share during the parades or fireworks. Not only will you have more than enough of the treat to go around, the savings by buying one of these versus several individual treats is huge!
  • Pass: The Odds and Ends in the Case– Here’s where is gets tricky; some of the chocolate dipped items in the display case are made on site (chocolate covered s’mores, chocolate covered strawberries), and some aren’t (most of the chocolate covered nut creations). When in doubt, ask a Cast Member! They are happy to share which items are made fresh in the store and which items have been shipped in.
  • Splurge: The Fudge – Also made fresh in the store, this is another great value. Often there will be a special deal that if you buy a certain number of pieces, you will get one free. Just ask a Cast Member what special they are running, as it is often not overtly advertised. There are flavors that change with the season (pumpkin, candy cane) and there are staples you can always find (chocolate, peanut butter, turtle). You should grab this treat when you are planning to sit and eat it, or as you head out of the park for the day as it will melt in the heat.

Whatever sugar packed morsel you end up choosing, you will not be disappointed. Remember, you are on vacation and there are no such thing as calories at Disney – it’s just another part of the Magic! At least, that’s what I tell myself when I walk out of the store with a bag full of goodies.

What are some of the treats that you cannot pass up when you visit the Confectionery? Do you bring treats home with you to share, or do you keep them for yourself? Let us know in the comment box below.

New Disney Movie “The Finest Hour” Begins Production

walt disney logo

Walt Disney Pictures is set to begin Production on their newest movie “The Finest Hour”.

In February of 1952, the East Coast was hit with one of its worst storms.  Off the coast of Cape Cod, New England, an oil tanker was damaged and ripped in half.  “The Finest Hour” tells the story of four Coast Guard members who set out in freezing weather and 70-foot waves on a small lifeboat to rescue 30 stranded sailors who were trapped on a sinking ship.  This rescue is considered to be the greatest small boat rescue in the history of the Coast Guard.

The film is directed by Craig Gillespie (“Million Dollar Arm,” “Lars and the Real Girl”), and will be shot on location in Quincy and Chatham, Massachusetts, alongside producers Jim Whitaker (“Cinderella Man”) and Dorothy Aufiero (“The Fighter”). The screenplay was written by Academy Award® nominees Paul Tamsay & Eric Johnson (“The Fighter”) and Academy Award nominee Scott Silver (“The Fighter,” “8 Mile”) and is based on the book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias.

“The Finest Hour” is set to hit theatres in the Fall of 2015 and stars Chris Pine (“Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” “Star Trek”), Academy Award® and Golden Globe® nominee Casey Affleck (“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” “Ocean’s Thirteen”) and Holliday Grainger (“Cinderella,” “Bonnie & Clyde”).

Another great movie on the horizon from Walt Disney Pictures.   My name is Loretta Garcia and I am the Entertainment Writer.  Follow us at chipandco.com for all the news!
