Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, The Disney Treasure, is set to be christened in spectacular fashion in New York City on November 19-20, 2024. The christening ceremony, which will take place on the harbor at Pier 60, has already generated excitement as special guests have received invitations to this much-anticipated event. As the newest addition to the Disney fleet, The Disney Treasure promises to continue Disney’s tradition of combining adventure, luxury, and a touch of magic on the high seas.

Following the christening, the ship will embark on its maiden voyage—a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida—on December 21, 2024. This will kick off an inaugural season of 7-night itineraries to both the Eastern and Western Caribbean, offering Disney fans the chance to experience this brand-new vessel on an unforgettable adventure.

The christening of a ship is a tradition that dates back thousands of years, symbolizing good luck and safe travels for the vessel and its crew. Typically, the ceremony includes the breaking of a bottle of champagne against the ship’s hull, a practice that began around 1891. Superstitions surrounding ship christenings are still observed today, with certain days like Thursdays, Fridays, and New Year’s Eve often avoided to stave off bad luck. Fortunately, The Disney Treasure‘s christening falls on a Tuesday and Wednesday, perfectly in line with these age-old customs.

Dolly Parton Pledges $1 Million for Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts!

Country music icon Dolly Parton and retail giant Walmart have partnered to provide much-needed relief to communities devastated by Hurricane Helene. The catastrophic storm, which recently tore through the Southeast, has left a trail of destruction and claimed the lives of over 200 people, making it the second-deadliest hurricane to strike the U.S. mainland in the past 50 years.

Deeply affected by the devastation in her home region of East Tennessee, Parton has pledged a personal donation of $1 million to the Mountain Ways Foundation, a charity dedicated to assisting flood victims. Furthermore, her various businesses, including Dollywood Parks & Resorts, The Dollywood Foundation, Dolly Parton’s Stampede, and Pirates Voyage, will join forces to match her donation with an additional $1 million contribution.

This collaborative effort with Walmart aims to provide vital resources and support to those impacted by the unprecedented flooding in the Appalachian region. At a recent event held at a Walmart in Newport, Tennessee, Parton expressed her deep connection to the affected communities, stating, “These are my mountains, these are my valleys, these are my rivers… these are my people, and this is my home.”

Walmart has also stepped up in a major way, with U.S. president and CEO John Furner announcing a $10 million donation from Walmart, Sam’s Club, and the Walmart Foundation to support hurricane relief efforts across the affected states.

This partnership between Dolly Parton and Walmart exemplifies the power of collective action in times of crisis. Their combined efforts will undoubtedly provide vital assistance to those struggling to recover from the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene.

In conjunction with the city of Pigeon Forge, we are also serving as a donation-drop off for the following items: lids, tarps, shovels, rakes, trash bags, work gloves, masks, cleaning wipes, diapers, baby formula and food, can openers, first aid supplies, personal hygiene items, kitty litter, new socks and underwear, clean towels and blankets, laundry detergent, pet food and hand sanitizer. The collection occurs now thru Oct. 6. Guests visiting Dollywood with donations can take items to Dollywood’s Front Gate. Non-Park guests donating be directed to Guest Drop-Off.

Heads up, Disney fans! If you’re planning a stay at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in early 2026, there’s some important info to keep in mind. From January 26 to early May 2026, the Bay Cove Pool, water play area, and whirlpool spa at Bay Lake Tower will be closed for refurbishment. While this means a temporary pause on some of the poolside fun, the good news is that the main feature pool, water play area, and whirlpool spa at Disney’s Contemporary Resort will remain open for guests to enjoy.

Bay Lake Tower is in the midst of getting some extra love over the next couple of years. The pool is currently closed for scheduled maintenance, but the water play areas remain open. Room refurbishments have been ongoing at Bay Lake Tower since September 2024 and will wrap in September 2025. During this time, guests may hear or see construction work throughout the resort, and alternate pathways may be in use, so plan for a little extra travel time when getting around.

For those unfamiliar, Bay Lake Tower is the Disney Vacation Club (DVC) wing of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, offering Studio, 1-Bedroom Villa, 2-Bedroom Villa, and 3-Bedroom Grand Villa accommodations, all with amazing proximity to Magic Kingdom. Despite the upcoming refurbishments, the Contemporary feature pool and other amenities will remain available to ensure your stay is as magical as ever.

World of Color: One Returning for Limited Time in Late October

Get ready for a dazzling display! ‘World of Color – ONE’ is returning to Disney California Adventure this month, following a refurbishment.

“World of Color – ONE” at Disney California Adventure Park

World of Color – ONE” is back with a splash! After a longer-than-expected refurbishment, this dazzling nighttime spectacular will return to Disney California Adventure on Friday, October 25th with two performances at 9 PM and 10:15 PM.

Originally scheduled to reopen on October 23rd, the refurbishment process took a bit longer, but the wait will be worth it!

World of Color – ONE” will have a brief run before making way for the enchanting “World of Color – Season of Light” for the holiday season.

World of Color – ONE” made its debut at Disney California Adventure in January 2023. While the show initially faced some guest feedback regarding the finale, it was brought back with minor updates in January 2024.

Despite rumors about the return of the original “World of Color,” the current version has been retained, with ongoing additions to highlight new Disney releases.

Originally scheduled to reopen on October 18, the Jungle Cruise underwent a refurbishment starting on August 26. While Disney hasn’t revealed the specifics of the work, it’s clear that some behind-the-scenes magic is happening to keep this beloved attraction in top shape.

In recent years, the ride has undergone some exciting updates, including a major refurbishment of the queue and the replacement of outdated scenes.
