You have booked your trip. You are going to Disney…in a few months (or more!). The countdown until your Disney vacation can be a slow and painful process. How are you expected to function as a normal person when magical memories await you? Here are some ideas of things to do while you are waiting for your vacation to start!

Book Dining Reservations: There are so many great restaurants to choose from during any Disney vacation. If your little Princess has her heart set on dining with the Princesses, or if the adults would like a choice table at Le Cellier, these will have to be booked well in advance. You can start booking your dining reservations 180 days before your trip. Have more time than that? Browse through all your dining options and make a list of your favorites, that way, you will be prepared when you are able to make those reservations.

Fastpass+ Reservations: Along with booking your dining experiences, make sure to book your Fastpass+ reservations to be sure you get to all your favorite attractions. You can make your FastPass+ reservations on My Disney Experience 60 days in advance if you are staying on property and 30 days in advance if you are staying off property. If your 60 day window is still weeks away check out some planning guides and make a list of your must-do attractions in each park.

Get Your Smartphone Ready: There are a ton of great apps to help you while in the parks. My Disney Experience is the official Disney app, and there are a whole bunch of others (many for free!) that will make your time in the parks easier, and your time waiting in lines more fun.

Set a Budget: Whether this is an adult only trip, or you’re travel with kids, setting a budget is an important aspect to planning your trip. Why not set up Disney themed chores to help your kids earn souvenir money for the trip? Wash the floors like Cinderella, dust the house like Snow White, pick up your toys like Andy. Hey, if it gets you some help around the house, go ahead and give it a try!

Have a Movie Marathon: I mean, this is my typical Friday night anyways, but what’s a better way to get excited for your trip and brush up on some Disney trivia then making your way through all the classic films? Want to make it even more special? Try planning a theme night for each movie! If you’re planning on watching Snow White set up your own gourmet apple bar complete with caramel, chocolate, sprinkles, peanuts, etc. Watching Dumbo? Grab some circus peanuts and create your own big top tent in your living room.

Disney Themed Crafts: Maybe matching family t-shirts isn’t really your thing, but you can still craft for your trip to help make the time pass. Try your hand at customizing an inexpensive tote bag to commemorate your trip. Make some Disney inspired hair bows and bowties you’re the Princesses and Princes in your life. Not only will these crafts help to pass the time, but you will have them for your trip too.

The wait before a Disney vacation can be brutal, but hopefully these ideas will help to relieve the pain and get you even more excited for your trip. How do you pass the time before a Disney vacation? Share your tips in the comment box below!

The Hangar

The Hanger – New Restaurant concept coming to Disney Springs in 2015!

Well you may have heard about Disney’s massive new project which is expected to turn the Downtown Disney Area into an incredible new  dining, shopping and entertaining experience called Disney Springs! This massive expansion is now underway and is really beginning to take shape! Disney Springs is expected to open in phases with Phase 1: “The Landing” debuting in 2015. Currently scheduled to finish by 2016, this expansion will literally double the current size of the Downtown Disney area and ultimately bring an innovative, fresh NEW look and feel to what is currently known as the Downtown Disney area.

The Landing

Disney Springs is set to open in two phases. As part of Phase 1 expected to debut in 2015 – the area that was once known as “Pleasure Island” will complete it’s magical transformation into “The Landing” which promises to bring exciting new restaurants, entertainment and shops to the area. When complete, this entire expansion will feature over 150 restaurants, shops, and experiences all which are set to reinvent the Downtown Disney experience by the end of 2016.

The Hangar

The Hangar is expected to bring a fun, exciting new restaurant and bar to ‘The Landing’ at Disney Springs and is currently being constructed on prime water front location where Pleasure Island once sat, obviously this gives the location a transportation edge when it comes to ferry, water taxi and/or perhaps even the new innovative amphicars which are expected to be featured as part of the 2015 Phase 1 debut.

This location seems to offer an expansive deck that reaches out over a stunning water front view of the new Disney Springs area and this restaurant and bar will soon feature unique theming with aviator inspired decor which seems to bring a more casual but very exciting option to The Landing.

Construction is coming along quickly and we are excited to see the new features and updates this experience will bring to the table.

Location

This new restaurant is sat just between it’s future neighbors: The Boathouse and Paradiso 37.

Future Menu

The Hangar’s future menu, featured cuisine and dining inspiration of this restaurant has yet to be released. However, we can assume by this location’s concept art and rumors that this new Disney Dining Experience may bring a more casual dining experience to The Landing.

Disney Springs

It won’t be long before we are able to make reservations and even drop in to this amazing new Disney Dining Experience set to open in 2015. The future of Disney Springs – Phase 1 will open during the beginning of 2015 and debut with “The Landing” and feature amazing new restaurants like The Boathouse and The Hangar to present the beginning of the massive expansion which is set for completion by 2016.

As the future of Disney Springs develops and begins to take shape while we speak, be sure to keep checking in for updates and information on this upcoming location.

What do you think of the new Disney Dining Experience coming to The Landing next year? Will you be trying the new cuisine and shops of Disney Springs in 2015? Leave us a message we love to hear from you.

Disney’s Pixar just released a video clip of their upcoming cute movie “The Good Dinosaur”.  The story about a family of Apatosaurs, stars John Lithgow as the father, Frances McDormand as mom, with Bill Hader and Neil Patrick Harris as brothers, Forrest and Cliff and Judy Greer as Ivy.  The lead character is Arlo voiced by Lucas Neff.

The film originally shared at the D23 expo was said to be about the adventures of Arlo and his human friend Spot.  The sub plot was about a farming community where all the different dinosaur species perform their designated jobs.  Triceratops are the bulldozers, Stegosauruses act as mowers while the Apatosaurs take care of the plowing.    John Lithgow recently talked about how the film has been re-imagined and completed re-recorded.  The release date has also been pushed   Looks like we have to wait until November 25, 2015 to see if the there are any great changes made to the original idea.    I can’t wait to meet Arlo and Spot.

Walt Disney World Planning Do’s and Don’ts

WDWPlanning
WDWPlanning

WDWPlanning

Planning, to one degree or another, is key when it comes to vacationing at the happiest place on earth!  There is so much to see, do and eat at the Walt Disney World Resort that having at least the outline of an itinerary can make sure your trip is everything you want it to be.  When it comes to planning your WDW vacation, I’ve created a list of Do’s and Don’ts to make the process a little simpler.

Do plan enough time for everything you want to do.  If you want to visit all four theme parks, a water park and Downtown Disney make sure you give yourself enough time.  You don’t want to be running around so much you don’t have time to actually stop and enjoy everything.  Each park can easily take a day to see and there are several non-park things to do and see so allow yourself at least five days, especially if this is your first visit.

Don’t try to do everything in one trip.  The WDW Resort is HUGE and there are so may things to experience.  Trying to cram everything into a week, or even two-week, vacation will just add unnecessary stress.  Make a list of those things you can’t miss and plan around those attractions, meals, and shows.

Do make Advanced Dining Reservations (ADRs). ADRs can be made 180 (or 180 +10 if you’re staying at a WDW resort property) days in advance.  There are some highly popular restaurants at WDW that fill up very quickly including Cinderella’s Royal Table and Be Our Guest.  You can always try to walk up to a Table Service restaurant but you may not be able to get into your first, second, or even third choice without a little advanced planning.

Don’t forget about Extra Magic Hours One of the benefits of staying on property are EMH.  These are select times that that park is open only to resort guests.  All parks have Morning EMH and Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios have Evening EMH.  If you chose to take advantage of EMH you can either sleep in (if you’re going in the evening) or call it an early day (if you’re using Morning EMH) – adding a little bit of relaxation to your trip.

Do make sure to familiarize yourself with FastPass+ and make your selections in advance if possible.  Guests staying on Disney property can make their FP+ selections 60 days in advance and those guests not staying on property can book their choices 30 days in advance.  While it may seem impossible to know what you’ll be doing that far in advance the new system will save you from having to make a mad-dash to the most popular rides at rope drop.

Don’t forget to give yourself enough time for travel and meals. Disney suggests allowing yourself 45-60 minutes of travel time to get from one place to another.  If you’re going from resort to resort build in a little extra time since you’ll have to make a connection at a park, Downtown Disney or TTC.  Character meals can take an hour or more if you want to enjoy your meal and spend time interacting with all of the characters.  You certainly don’t want to feel rushed while having dinner with Cinderella or breakfast with Mickey and his friends!

Do set a budget.  Make sure you include not only room, tickets and transportation, but food (or tips if you chose a Disney Dining Plan), money for tips for people like Magical Express bus drivers, anyone who assists you with your luggage and Mousekeeping and money to bring home a souvenir or two. My family always makes sure we have enough for a new picture frame and an ornament for our Christmas tree.

Don’t over-plan and schedule yourself down to the minute.  When I was younger I would plan our Disney vacations in 5-minute increments.  I even scheduled bathroom breaks!  That did NOT go over  well with my family.  Planning is great.  I have several Excel worksheets dedicated to Disney planning.  But remember, it’s still a vacation.  You don’t want to have such a tight and rigid schedule that one little thing throws your whole day off.

Do make sure to check out the things to do outside of the parks.  Downtown Disney has amazing shops and places to eat – Earl of Sandwich is personal favorite.  And resort-hopping can make for a really fun afternoon.  There are so many fun things that happen at each resort, like evening movies and campfires with marshmallow roasting that even if you decided to have a non-park day you won’t get bored!

Don’t forget to utilize a Disney Travel Agent, like World of Magic Travel to help you plan your magical vacation!  Your Disney Travel Agent has had training specifically related to planning a magical Disney vacation or cruise and wants to share all of that knowledge with you.  Using their service is free and can even save you money because they will keep an eye out for any promotions and make sure they apply those that qualify to your vacation without you having to lift a finger.  They can also assist with all other aspects of your trip include air and ground transportation, dining reservations and another other special touches to make your trip the vacation of a lifetime!

Disney Quick Tips – Hand Sanitizer is a Must

hand

You have already crammed your phone, trading pins, Vinylmations, camera, extra camera battery, sunscreen, sunglasses, rain poncho, autograph book, and water bottle into your bag right before leaving your resort to head to the park in time for rope drop. But there is one thing you are missing and is a crucial aspect if you want to be fully prepared for the parks – hand sanitizer!

Walt Disney World has an annual attendance of around 17 million people each year. That works out to roughly 46,500 people per day (give or take a couple hundred thousand depending on the time of year). That’s 46,500 touching lap bars, railings, tables, chairs, items in the stores, etc. Basically what I’m saying is, there is a lot of germs! Disney does their best to keep things clean, but the guy who sat in the log on Splash Mountain right before you, who was picking his nose throughout the forty-five minute queue…well, you get the idea. Sanitize often, especially before grabbing a snack and save yourself the unwanted souvenir of a head cold to take home with you.

Do you pack sanitizer with you when you head to the parks? Is there anything else that you can’t leave your resort without? Let us know in the comment box below.

Monica is an Alumni of the Disney College Program. When she is not walking down the middle of Main Street USA you can find her wandering the World Showcase, or enjoying a Dole Whip while racing to her favorite attractions. When she is forced to endure life outside of Walt Disney World, you can find her in Ann Arbor, Michigan where she lives and works.

10 Songs for a Magical Disney Workout

Disney Playlist Feature Image
Disney Playlist Feature Image

Disney-Playlist_Feature-Image

Do you love Disney music? Do you work out? Why not mix the two?! Here is my list for adding a little Disney magic to your next trip to the gym.

1.  “Stand Out” and “121” by Tevin Campbell from A Goofy Movie

I couldn’t decide between the two. If you’re an 80s baby like I am, you’ll remember jamming to Tevin Campbell. His most notable hits in the 90s include “Can We Talk” and “I’m Ready.” Unfortunately, his songs for A Goofy Movie aren’t available for individual download on iTunes, but if you loved these songs as much as I did, it will be worth the full album price.

2.  “When Can I See You Again” by Owl City from Wreck-it Ralph

One man electronica band, Owl City collaborated with Disney for the end credits song to the box office hit, Wreck-It Ralph. You can’t help but move when you hear its catchy beat.

3.  “Why Should I Worry” by Billy Joel from Oliver & Co

Music legend Billy Joel and Disney certainly didn’t go wrong with this song from one of my favorite Disney movies from the 80s. Though it may start a little slow, the song quickly leads to a great up-tempo music number that would make anyone want to sing and dance all over New York City.

4.  “Something That I Want” by Grace Potter from Tangled

This song is just flat-out happy. Its upbeat and sweet lyrics put a perma-smile on your face, and who isn’t more motivated to work out when you’re happy?

5.  “Another Part of Me” by Michael Jackson from Captain Eo

Captain Eo may soon be gone forever from Disney parks, but this song will always be remembered. Anytime I listen to this song, I’m immediately brought back to the sweet 80s nostalgia of this Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas classic.

6.  “Real Gone” by Sheryl Crow from Cars

The great guitar riffs will rev your engine in this Cars classic.

7.  “Derrezed” by Daft Punk from TRON: Legacy

Let’s be real, this entire soundtrack could be played for your workout, but I like variety.

8.  “Touch the Sky” by Julie Fowlis from Brave

This song has a mild but steady beat. It’s perfect for throwing on your headphones and going for a long trail run.

9.  “The Great Divide” by The McClain Sisters from Secret of the Wings

China Anne McClain joins her sisters in this song from the Tinkerbell movie, Secret of the Wings. This selection is such an upbeat and uplifting song that continues in the tradition of great title songs from the series of Tinkerbelle movies.

10.  “Let it Go” by Demi Lovato from Frozen

That’s right, I said Demi Lovato. Idina Menzel will forever more be a Disney legend for her rendition of “Let it Go,” but Demi’s version is much more fast tempo and great for a workout.

What do you think? Have any others to add? Listen to this list here on Spotify, and be sure to follow Chip & Co to receive all of the great Disney song lists we put together!

Disney-ABC Announces New Daytime Talk Show

The FAB
The FAB

FAB show

A new show is on the horizon for Disney owned ABC.  No it’s not another Once Upon a Time spin-off. The FAB (Fun and Beautiful) will be a daytime lifestyle talk show starring Tyra Banks and is set to air Fall 2015.

Tyra Banks, who is now 40, will be joined by a cast of co-hosts including social media buff and foodie Chrissy Teigen, fashion guru Joe Zee, interior design professional Lauren Makk, and do-it-yourself YouTuber Leah Ashley. The FAB plans to welcome celebrity guests as well as everyday people to share their knowledge on beauty, food, design, and DIY.

Trya Banks is no stranger to hosting her own show. With America’s Next Top Model in its 21st season, and her previous daytime talk show, The Tyra Banks Show, it will be interesting to see how the supermodel shares the spotlight with her new co-hosts.

The  line-up of hosts is a promising start. Chrissy Teigen already has a following thanks to MTV’s Snack Off, and adding the male voice of Joe Zee will bring some more dimension to the cast. I’m hoping that this show will be just as Fun as the name suggests, but I’m worried that the cast won’t jive, and we will be left with a revival of The Tyra Banks Show – with company!

What do you think about The FAB? Will you be tuning in and setting your DVR? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comment box below!

Big Hero 6 Original Soundtrack available soon.

Hero

The Big Hero 6 original motion picture soundtrack will be available for digital download on November 4 and on CD November 24th .  The Soundtrack features an original song, “Immortals” from Fall Out Boy and also includes score from Henry Jackman (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain Phillips” and “Wreck-It-Ralph”).  Pre-order for the album begins today.

Fall Out Boy wrote and performs the song for the film’s sequence where the “Big Hero 6” team is transformed from a group of super smart individuals to a band of high-tech heroes. “The idea of this kid stepping up on behalf of his brother is what inspired the song’s title ‘Immortals,'” says Patrick Stump. “Your victories aren’t exclusively yours, so the fact that all of these people are coming together to help him get to the finish line is really exciting.” “They’re testing out their new super suits for the first time in the scene,” says Pete Wentz. “Some of it works—some of it doesn’t. You get the sense that they’re stepping into a bigger role. The story’s in the DNA of Fall Out Boy. It is an authentic story and it’s who our band is—we’ve always identified with the underdog.”

A 77-piece orchestra was used to create a score that celebrates the comic-book style action of “Big Hero 6,” the embracing of technology and, of course, the special relationships that are forming. “It’s very important to me in a score like this when there’s a lot of emotional content, as well as heroism and jeopardy and the rest, to allow the musicians to play together. If you can put everyone in a room together, it’s great. They bounce off each other.”   “Music is really the emotion of the movie, beautifully stitching the scenes together,” says director Don Hall. “We wanted a score that was melodic with prominent themes, while pushing technical boundaries with electronica music, too. Henry Jackman was able to weave it all together brilliantly.”

Big Hero 6 is an action packed comedic adventure about the special relationship that forms between the plus sized inflatable robot named Baymax (voiced by Scott Adsit) and prodigy Hiro Hamada (voiced by Ryan Potter) after devastating events occur in Hiro’s life.   Along with his friends, adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago (voice of Jamie Chung), neatnik Wasabi (voice of Damon Wayans Jr.), chemistry whiz Honey Lemon (voice of Genesis Rodriguez) and fanboy Fred (voice of T.J. Miller), Hiro sets out to save his hometown of San Frantokyo.  “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”). The film hits theaters in 3D on Nov. 7, 2014.

The Big Hero 6 soundtrack is set for release at digital retail Nov. 4 and on CD Nov. 24, 2014 and is available for pre-order beginning today.   A special bundle featuring a Baymax 7” vinyl single, the soundtrack CD and poster is now available for pre-order at Disney Music Emporium.

Entertainment Weekly Takes a Closer Look at ‘Into the Woods’

Into the Woods
Into the Woods

Big Bad Wolf

This week’s cover of Entertainment Weekly featured promotional photos for the much anticipated upcoming film Into the Woods. There were a total of four different covers released, each highlighting two different characters from the film, but the one that has everyone buzzing is the cover featuring Johnny Depp.

into4 into3 into2

Previous to the cover’s release, we have only seen a fleeting clawed hand from the big bad Wolf (Depp) in the teaser trailer for the film. Now, with his full costume revealed some are left scratching their heads. Are those claws or claw gloves? Are those real whiskers, or does the character like to dabble in prosthetics? Comparisons have been made to Tex Avery, and others are calling the get-up a furry zoot-suit.

I think the costume choice, along with the hair and make-up are a fun and interesting choice, but I hope that they blend into the film well and don’t stand out as overdrawn caricatures. Where Johnny Depp is involved, viewers are sure to see a fully immersed and imagined character come to life on screen and I am excited to see his portrayal of such a well known fairy tale villain.

Here is the official release:

“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack and the Beanstalk (Daniel Huttlestone), and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy), all tied together by an original story involving a Baker and his Wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt), their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the Witch (Meryl Streep), who has put a curse on them.

Rob Marshall, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the Academy Award®-winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” directs the film, which is based on the Tony®-winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics. Produced by John DeLuca, Marshall, “Wicked” producer Marc Platt and Callum McDougall, “Into the Woods” will be released in theaters December 25, 2014.

Starring Meryl Streep, James Corden, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine, “Into the Woods” is a humorous and heartfelt musical that follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a Baker and his Wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the Witch who has put a curse on them.

Notes:

  • Into the Woods” premiered on Broadway on November 5, 1987, at the Martin Beck Theatre. The production, which ran for 764 performances, won Tony® Awards for Best Score, Best Book of a Musical and Best Actress in a Musical. Among other awards, the musical received five Drama Desk Awards, including Best Musical. “Into the Woods” has been produced around the world, including a 1988 U.S. tour, a 1990 West End production and Broadway and London revivals, in addition to a television production, DVD recording and a 10-year-anniversary concert.
  • The big-screen adaptation welcomes songs from the stage musical, including “Children Will Listen,” “Giants in the Sky,” “On the Steps of the Palace,” “No One Is Alone” and “Agony,” among others.
