Disney’s 101 Dalmatians on Blu-ray, Digital HD, Disney Movies Anywhere, DVD and On-Demand will be released just in time for Valentine’s Day, February 10, 2015! This is truly a Disney classic with our favorite spotted dogs and one of the best Disney Villains, Cruella De Vil!

Pongo, Perdita and their super-adorable puppies are in for thrills, hilarious spills and an epic action-packed adventure when they face off with Cruella De Vil, Disney’s most fabulously outrageous villainess. When Cruella dognaps all of the Dalmatian puppies in London, brave animal heroes launch a daring plan to save all puppies from Cruella’s clutches! Unleash all the excitement and suspense of Disney’s 101 Dalmatians, a beloved classic you’ll want to share with your family again and again!

Bonus features will include a new short, “The Further Adventures of Thunderbolt”, Walt Disney Presents “The Best Doggoned Dog in the World” (1961 Version), Disney View as well as other Class Bonus Features.

This movie has something for everyone with adventure, danger, romance and, of course, those adorable puppies. Too bad the movie doesn’t come with your own Dalmatian puppy! My family loves 101 Dalmatians and we can’t to watch it again this coming February.

Walt Disney Pictures held the movie premiere of their latest release – Big Hero 6 at the El Capitan Theatre.  Fans lined up the street in the cool California weather to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars.  The Red Carpet event pictures below speak for themselves, showing the excitement shared by cast and crew.

Big Hero 6 is the latest Disney / Marvel movie about genius Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter) and the friendship that develops between him and Baymax (Scott Adsit) the marshmellowy inflatable robot his brother, Tadashi invented.  When a tragedy, causes Tadashi’s death, Hiro, Baymax and Tadashi’s nerd friends, GoGo Tomago (voice of Jamie Chung), neatnik Wasabi (voice of Damon Wayans Jr.), chemistry whiz Honey Lemon (voice of Genesis Rodriguez) and fanboy Fred (voice of T.J. Miller) join forces to discover the truth behind Tadashi’s death and save San Fransokyo.   “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams and produced by Roy Conli.   In theatres beginning November 7, 2014,  don’t miss this action packed, heartwarming new Disney movie.

My name is Loretta Garcia and I am the Entertainment Writer for Chip and Company.

Big Hero 6 Movie Review

I was so excited to be able to attend a press screening of the newest Disney movie, Big Hero 6, at the Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank on October 16th.  I took my husband with me and my girls were incredibly jealous!  Shout out to my parents, who kept the girls on our whirlwind trip out to southern California for the screening and the next day Press Junket with the Cast and Crew!

We arrived at the Walt Disney Animation Studios for the screening on Thursday evening.  I was in awe at the buildings and surroundings, knowing that Walt Disney had actually walked where I was walking.  Inside the Roy E. Disney Animation Building, we were not allowed to take pictures, other than with the inflatable Baymax character in the center of the lobby.  The lobby was completely decorated in Big Hero 6 murals, posters, pictures and more.  It was glorious!  Our credentials were checked and we were ushered into a screening room and given bottles of water and popcorn.

Big Hero 6 is a collaboration of Disney and Marvel.  John Lasseter is the executive producer and the producer is Ray Conli (Tangled).  The directors are Chris Williams (Bolt) and Don Hall (Winnie the Pooh).  Don Hall asked John Lasseter if he could explore the Marvel vaults while working on Winnie the Pooh and he found this comic series called “Big Hero 6.” He liked the name and Japanese influence and was told to run with it.  The Marvel team supported the creation of this film with Disney and the result is an action packed, heart warming story of a boy and a robot named Baymax.

Big Hero 6 brings six unique characters together to form a friendship and bond, and filmmakers knew that the cast needed to be a strong roster.  “Stan Lee’s characters have problems, shortcomings and foibles.  They’re not perfect and we love them anyway.  They feel real.  The characters in Big Hero 6 don’t have magical superpowers.  Technology and their brains are their powers.” says story head Paul Briggs.  The movie boasts 17 main characters, including the key six and the characters each had more onscreen time than any other WDAS film.  The fabricated city of San Fransokyo (mash of Tokyo and San Francisco) is so detailed, a new rendering tool named Hyperion was developed to bring it to life.  There are nearly 700 characters in the film, and in comparison, Wreck it Ralph (Oscar nominated film in 2012) broke records at that time with 185 characters!  Big Hero 6 definitely lived up to “go big or go home!”

The movie revolves around Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter) and his relationship with Baymax (Scott Adsit), a robot created by his brother Tadashi (Daniel Henney) to be a “personal healthcare companion.”  Hiro is a prodigy, graduating high school at 14, with no real direction in life.  They boys live with their Aunt Cass (Maya Rudolph) and Tadashi attends San Fransokyo Tech, a University for advanced technical students.  On a visit to the campus, Hiro meets Tadashi’s friends, sees their experiments and creations and he realizes there is a much bigger world out there than he ever imagined.  Hiro has to invent something to “wow” the head of admissions, Professor Callaghan (James Cromwell), and present it at an Expo to gain admission as a student.  He creates telepathically controlled “micro bots” which play an important element in the rest of the film.

Baymax cares – that was what he was designed to do.  When he scans a human, he detects vitals, and when given a patient’s pain level, he can treat almost any ailment.  When the filmmakers did research at Carnegie Mellon University to bring Baymax to life, lead character designer, Shiyoon Kim was influenced by Japanese infomercials.  “If they’re (Japanese) selling a rice cooker, for example, it always seems to emphasize the cute aesthetic, yet hide the technology.  We wanted the same feeling for Baymax, because it made him less threatening in appearance.”

Hiro and Baymax become inseparable during the course of the film.  Hiro becomes the “little brother” to the group of friends, and together they become the Big Hero 6.  The friends include adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago (Jamie Chung), neatnik Wasabi (Damon Wayans), chemistry whiz Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez) and fan boy Fred (TJ Miller).   The group goes through many emotions as they team up for adventures.  The relationships between Hiro and Baymax, as well as, Hiro and the students he teams up with is critical to the film.  You become attached and empathetic to the characters and I can tell you that tears were shed along with the laughter.

Big Hero 6 comes out on November 7.  I highly recommend this movie – it will appeal to boys, girls and adults alike.  I’d love to hear your thoughts below!

Walt Disney Pictures held a media preview for its newest movie “Big Hero 6” at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California on Saturday, November 1st.   Playing to a packed theatre, the film starts out with an illegal game of robot fighting where young Hiro (Ryan Potter) competes and wins against the big guns.  Following a run in with the thugs and the consequences from his activities, Hiro finds himself in his brother’s lab where he meets Tadashi’s friends and fellow “Nerds”.  Hiro also discovers his brother’s latest invention, Baymax (Scott Adsit),  a gentle and squishy health care robot.   Inspired by the visit and excited to be accepted into “Nerd school”, Hiro comes up with an incredible invention using tiny bots and after a successful presentation is accepted into the school by the famous professor, Robert Callahan (James Cromwell).   Hiro and Tadashi (Daniel Henney) share special moment only to be interrupted by an explosion where Tadashi in an attempt to save Professor Callahan, dashes into the burning building right before it explodes.

Heartbroken and angry at Tadashi’s death, Hiro puts off starting school and spends his days locked in his room.   A mishap activates Baymax who has been stashed in the corner of the brothers’ bedroom.  This event also allows Hiro to discover  that his microbots may have not been lost in the fire.  Setting off with Baymax and a lone microbot, Hiro has a run in with a masked villain, Yokai  and learns the fire that killed his brother may not have been an accident and instead a way to cover up the theft of his microbots.

Determined to catch the masked man and find out the truth, Hiro programs and turns Baymax into a flying, fighting hero and along with his brother’s friends, Go Go Tomago (Jamie Chung) a tough and athletic adrenaline junkie who develops electromagnetic wheel axles.  Wasabi (Damon Wayans, Jr) neat freak and an expert on laser cutting. Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez)  the chemistry whiz with a touch of mad scientist.  and my personal favorite nerd, Fred (T.J. Miller) a comic book fan and school mascot at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, the Big Hero 6 are born.

Big Hero 6 is full of heartwarming moments and the traditional Disney story line we all love.  The music and special effects were just enough to enhance the storyline, without making it too harsh or intense.  The relationship that develops between Hiro and Baymax made the movie an automatic hit with my fellow movie goers.   To quote several young movie fans – 4 year old Sebastian of Sherman Oaks and Alexis and Kaycee MIller of Santa Clarita all agreed,  “the movie was great!!!”  and Baymax was their “absolute favorite new character”.   Big Heros 6 characters and accessories including the all new Disney Infinite  – Baymax and Hiro will be at the top of young Disney / Marvel fan holiday lists.

7 Tips You Need to Know About Disney’s Castaway Cay

How much do you know about Disney’s Castaway Cay? Recently I took my first ever Disney Cruise and I fell in love! Now I can’t wait for my next cruise in January! Having only scratched the surface of all the fun things you can do on the Disney’s Castaway Cay our friends at Disney were nice enough to give us 7 Tips You Need to Know when visiting their private island.

  1. The island is reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests. If the Castaway Cay post office is open, be sure to stop by to mail a message (and brag) to friends back home. Also check out the merchandise you can only get on the island, like beachwear, hats and collectible pins with Disney’s Castaway Cay logo, at She Sells Sea Shells … and Everything Else!
  2. You can walk right off the ship to the island. The dock built at Castaway Cay eliminates the need to tender, making the ship easily accessible throughout the day. Trams provide transportation to and from various points on the 1,000-acre island. All you’ll need is your Key to the World card to get on and off the ship as you please.
  3. There’s something for everyone. Disney Imagineers designed Castaway Cay much like the Disney Cruise Ships, with unique activities and areas for every age group. Places for the family to spend time together are plenty, but when it’s time to do your own thing, kids can head to Scuttle’s Cove, teens to the secluded Hide Out and adults to the pristine Serenity Bay.
  4. All that you need is included. From complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas to an all-you-care-to-eat lunch buffet and ice cream station, Disney has you covered. They even provide beach towels, wagons and strollers to make your day more comfortable. There isn’t much you’ll need to bring onto the island with you, except for of course plenty of sunblock and a good book!
  5. There are plenty of Port Adventures options for your family. Just like in other destinations, Disney works with local operators to offer excursions such as parasailing, deep sea fishing and boat tours. Plus, you won’t want to miss the activities exclusive to the island, including Castaway Ray’s Stingray Adventure, the Castaway Cay Walking and Kayak Nature Adventure and the teen-only Wild Side Adventure.
  6. The island is stocked with toys for water sports enthusiasts. Water cycles, paddleboats, sea kayaks, sailboats, stand-up paddle boards, floats and snorkel gear are all available to rent. There’s also a watercraft ski adventure for the chance to drive a personal watercraft through mangroves and around the island.
  7. You can stay cool even in the warm sunshine. Besides joining the water fun with one of the many activities listed above, the Pelican Plunge slide is a great way to cool off. When you need a break from the sun, shaded areas are located around the island, including covered seating near the lunch buffets and bars, In Da Shade Game Pavilion and private rental cabanas.

So upcoming Disney cruisers, did they cover everything? If not, tell us what else we need to include to complete this list below.

Lasseter to Direct ‘Toy Story 4’ Debuting in 2017

The original “Toy Story” film hit theaters almost 20 years ago. (Crazy to think, isn’t it?) Woody and Buzz captured the hearts of fans worldwide, and thus began the “Toy Story” franchise.  John Lasseter, the director of the original film and its first sequel, will be stepping in to direct the fourth installment.

The film is slated for release June 16, 2017, almost exactly a year after upcoming “Finding Dory” is scheduled to be released (it’s only off by a day!). Other upcoming films on Pixar’s immediate release timeline include “Inside Out” (June 19, 2015) and “The Good Dinosaur” (November 25, 2015).

After thinking the series had wrapped up and finished, Lasseter, along with Pixar alums and original Toy Story creators Andrew Stanton, Lee Unkrich, and Pete Docter cooked up a new idea and hit the ground running to work on the new chapter. They are joined by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack to write the script. (You may know Jones from “The Office” and “Parks and Recreation”, and McCormack starred in “The Sopranos” and the film “Must Love Dogs”.) Pixar veteran Galyn Susman (“Toy Story of TERROR!”, “Toy Story That Time Forgot”) will produce the film.

I personally feel that there is no need for any additional films. I love seeing the shorts! I think they’re great. But there’s just no need for a full-length feature film. I grew up with these movies and cared about Andy and the toys; I really don’t care about Bonnie at all, and I don’t see myself developing much of a relationship with her. It isn’t confirmed that Bonnie will be a big part in this film, but since she owns Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the gang, I think it is implied.

I’m interested to hear what you all think about this. Was the “Toy Story” franchise ready to finish, or is there more to tell?

New Parking Garage at Downtown Disney Opens November 20

The construction in and around Downtown Disney has caused headaches for those who want to the shopping and restaurant venues there. Entrances to parking have been closed, roadways have been clogged more than usual with the widening of Buena Vista Drive, and then there have been the construction barriers inside Downtown Disney itself.  As we approach the holidays, many have wondered how all of this will affect the “Festival of the Seasons” with its decorations, events, and photo opportunities.

Good news, at least on one front!  One parking garage opened November 2 for employee test use, and will be partially open for guest use beginning November 20. Levels 1 through 4 of the new 5 level garage will be open, making 1700 parking spaces available. It is said another 1300 spaces will be available in December, but this also means the closing of some more entrances to existing parking to make way for another parking garage.

When all is said and done, there will be two new parking garages – a total of 6000 parking spaces! Additionally, shopping and dining offerings will be doubled, Buena Vista Drive will have dedicated bus lanes, there will be pedestrian bridges across Buena Vista Drive, and a new ramp from I-4 will lead directly to a parking garage.  All of this should make what will ultimately be called “Disney Springs” a wonderful place to visit!

In the meantime, parking continues to be available across the street, with shuttles taking guests over to Downtown Disney. If you are staying in a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, use the complimentary bus transportation, but make sure you plan for plenty of time to arrive if you have dining reservations! Valet parking is available at Marketplace from 10 am to 1 am, and at West Side from 2:30 pm to 2 am. You will be charged based upon length of time at Downtown Disney, ranging from $10 for 0-2 hours to $20 for 3 or more hours. Time is counted from when you reach the valet podium to drop off your car until you return to the podium to pick up your car. Payment is collected as you leave.

Decorations and events for “Festival of the Seasons” begin November 14. Do you think they’ll be negatively impacted or overshadowed by this construction?  Will it affect your decision to visit Downtown Disney this holiday season?

Walt Disney was so impressed with Bob’s work that he hired him as a permanent employee in his recently formed company, WED Enterprises – whose sole mission was to design and build Disneyland. During his three decades of employment with WED, Bob worked on over 100 designs for attractions that include the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Monorails, Matterhorn Bobsleds and the memorable Flying Saucers. He also worked on the original Abraham Lincoln “Audio-Animatronic” figure for the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair, along with Ford Motor Company’s “Magic Skyway” ride. Christmas

Starting this Friday at the Walt Disney World Resort Christmas comes alive in the Magic Kingdom! November 7th kicks off the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party of the Holiday season, this year Disney kicks it up a notch with some help from Frozen! We mentioned last month about “A Frozen Holiday Wish,” adding a little magic to “Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade,” but lets not forget the new character dance parties, opportunities to visit with not only Santa Claus, Santa Goofy and even “Sandy Claws” too!

Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade” includes lots of Disney characters, along with a holly jolly cast of snowmen, reindeer, elves, and of course, Santa Claus. Ralph and Vanellope from “Wreck-It Ralph” are new to the parade this year, as is a procession of visitors from the Kingdom of Arendelle with Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf from “Frozen.”

The “Holiday Hootenanny!” boot-scoots into the Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland, where you can kick up your heels for some down-home holiday fun with the Country Bears, Clarabelle Cow, Horace Horsecollar, and Clara Cluck. And over at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Tomorrowland, Club Tinsel becomes the top spot to get down when Phineas and Ferb show up. What are they going to do today? The brothers are going to rock their Christmas vacation with the holiday cheeriest dance party this side of Danville!

Christmas has come to Storybook Circus, too, and some of your favorite Disney pals are all dressed up for the occasion, including Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Scrooge McDuck, and of course, Santa Goofy. And what’s this? Pumpkin king Jack Skellington has been so inspired by everything in Christmastown, he wants to be part of the holiday celebration, too. You’ll find Jack in Storybook Circus – dressed in his finest “Sandy Claws” suit and ready to meet the boys and girls of every age!

Here are the maps for this years event!

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is held on select nights, November 7 – December 19, and is separate from regular Magic Kingdom Park admission. Tickets are available now. Contact my friends at World of Magic Travel to book your Holiday Vacation today!
