Top 6 Walt Disney World Shopping Tips

To Disney Cast Members they are known as “tangible memories.” They are a way for you to take a slice of magic home with you. We budget a good chunk of our vacation fund towards them. They are souvenirs. Searching for the perfect souvenir at Walt Disney World can be time consuming, but also so much fun. I have put together a couple tips that will hopefully help you on your next Disney hunt.

If you see it and like it, buy it: Throughout your trip you will notice different products and souvenirs in each and every shop you visit (autograph books, character pens, etc.). However, some merchandise will be exclusive to a single store or area on property. For example, you can only find Dooney and Bourke purses at a few select shops (Uptown Jewelers – Magic Kingdom, Mouse Gear – Epcot, Sunset Club Couture – Disney’s Hollywood Studies, TrenD and World of Disney – Downtown Disney, Grand Floridian Resort). Also, you will not be able to find a Magic Kingdom sweatshirt at Animal Kingdom, or a Port Orleans t-shirt at Wilderness Lodge. My suggestion is if you see something you really like – buy it then and there! You may not be able to find it again the next day at a different park.

World Showcase is a shopping dream: If you are looking for a unique souvenir or gift to bring home with you, try strolling around World Showcase at Epcot. The different pavilions offer goods from those countries. Pick up some French perfume at the France pavilion, or tea from the United Kingdom, or maybe even some colorful candy from Japan. One of my absolute favorite places in the World Showcase is the shops at the Mexico pavilion. I just love the nighttime atmosphere and how it feels like I am exploring different street shops under the stars.

Have your bags sent to your room: or to the front of the park. It’s easy to get bogged down in bag after bag throughout your busy day, and it’s a bummer to have to try and cram all your souvenirs into your flying pirate ship for Peter Pan’s Flight. But of course, Disney has thought of everything! Every store in the parks offers free shipping to your resort. So, if you buy more than you were planning to at the Emporium early in the day, just have it sent to your resort (for free!) and it will be waiting for you later that day. This is only offered if you are staying at a Disney resort. However, Disney also offers end of the day pick up, where you can send your purchases to a central location in the park, and pick them up at the end of the day before you leave. Please note, any food item such as rice crispy treats, candy, etc, cannot be shipped to your resort or be held for you. Those you will want to carry with you, or wait until the end of the day to purchase.

Disney gift cards: These pieces of magical plastic can be used throughout the parks for food, beverages, and of course, souvenirs. I like to ask for Disney gift cards for my birthday and other holidays and save them up for something special on my next Disney vacation. Just keep in mind that some stores at Downtown Disney will not accept these, as they are a third party vendor. Just ask a Cast Member and they will be happy to let you know.

Set some time aside for World of Disney: Located at Downtown Disney, World of Disney is the largest store on property and is 50,000 square feet. I like to visit this store at the beginning of my trip to pick up some new Mickey Ears and get my first look at all the new merchandise, and at the end of my trip so that I can pick up any last minute items that I didn’t purchase during the rest of my visit.

Fear not if you feel regret: After your trip, if you are still wishing you would’ve bought that perfect item that you talked yourself out of – fear not! Try disneystore.com or contact the Disney Merchandise Department at 1-877-560-6477 or [email protected]. They will help try to track down your item for you. Now if you are feeling regret about how much you spend on Alex and Ani bangles, they probably won’t be able to help you with that one.

For me, shopping at Disney is almost as much fun as experiencing some of my favorite attractions. I love checking out all the new merchandise and wandering through the stores in each park. I hope these suggestions will help you and your family on your next shopping mission at Disney. If you have any tips of your own, I would love to hear them! Let me know in the comments!

Live Action Beauty and the Beast may have found its Gaston

Luke Evans

Negotiations are in the works for the casting of our resident villain, Gaston, in Disney’s newest live-action production “Beauty and the Beast”. Luke Evans has been in talks for the role. Fans of “Beauty and the Beast” will look forward to seeing how Evans might portray the evil Gaston who after unsuccessfully trying to win the love of Belle, rallies up the townfolk to “catch the beast”.

At this time, production which will not being until later this year, as “Harry Potter” star Emma Watson with producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman and director Bill Condon on the list.   Although we don’t have a release date for the movie or other characters cast yet, we can say that based on the excellent re-telling of “Cinderella”, we can expect the same or better for “Beauty and the Beast”.    Other movies Disney is working on are a 3-D retelling of “The Jungle Book” and “Pete’s Dragon“.

Free Disney Dining…Which Plan Is Right For You?

Disney Free Dining
Disney Free Dining

Disney Free Dining

With all the talk about Free Disney Dining, I thought it would be a great time to rehash the Disney Dining Plan!  What is included in these plans? Which resorts offered these plans last year during free dining and can I choose to upgrade a plan that is offered if free dining is released?

Historical data from 2014 free dining indicated the Value Resorts offered the Quick-Service Dining Plan for its resort guests.  Moderate and Deluxe / Deluxe Villa resorts offered the Plus Dining Plan.  Some resorts were excluded from the promotion!  Here are the room exclusions from the free dining promotion in 2014: All-Star Movies, Port Orleans Resort Riverside, Port Orleans Resort French Quarter, Fort Wilderness campsites, Grand Villas at all resorts (3-bedroom Disney Vacation Club rooms), Art of Animation Little Mermaid Rooms, and the Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, were all not eligible for Free Dining.

One of the biggest questions I receive is… Can I upgrade my dining plan during free dining?  Absolutely!  The answer is yes!  Disney allows you to upgrade your dining plan by paying the difference.  This can be calculated to help you decide if staying at your current resort is your best option or if upgrading your resort is a better choice.  Be sure to talk with your travel agent about your options during this time!  You might be surprised at the outcome!

Let’s take a look a the Disney Dining Plans.  There are three dining plans:  Quick-Service, “Plus” Dining and Deluxe Dining. Let’s take a look at the Quick Service Dining Plan first.

Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan
For each night of your Quick-Service Dining Plan package, each Guest in your party (ages 3 and up) receives:

2 Quick-Service Meals
Each quick-service meal includes:

For Breakfast
1 entrée or 1 complete combo meal
1 single-serving, non-alcoholic beverage

For Lunch and Dinner
1 entrée or 1 complete combo meal
1 dessert
1 single-serving, non-alcoholic beverage

Children ages 3-9 must order from the Children’s Menu (if one is available).

1 Snack
Examples of snacks are: 1 frozen ice cream novelty, popsicle, fruit bar, popcorn scoop (single-serving box), single-serving bag of snacks, single piece of whole fruit, 20-oz. bottle of Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite or Dasani water, 22-oz. fountain soft drink or juice, 12-oz. coffee, hot chocolate or hot tea, single-serving prepackaged milk or juice

Plan must be purchased for entire length of stay and for the entire party (ages 3+). Meals are non-transferable between party members and expire at midnight on day of check-out.

1 Resort-Refillable Drink Mug Per Person
Bring your Resort mug to any quick-service restaurant at your Disney Resort hotel and refill it as often as you like!

The “Plus” Dining Plan is the next plan we will look at.  This plan is for the guest looking to enjoy sit-down meals.  You can use your table service credit to eat with the characters!  This is a VERY popular plan!  In fact, this is the plan my family chooses to use when we vacation at Disney!  Here is the Disney Dining Plan!

Disney Dining Plan
With your Disney Dining Plan, for each night of your package, each Guest in your party (ages 3 and up) receives:

1 Table-Service Meal
Each (adult or child) table-service meal includes:

It is highly recommended to make reservations for all table service meals!  You or your travel agent can make these reservations up to 180 days prior to your arrival.

The final Disney Dining Plan is the Deluxe Dining Plan.  This dining plans allows you to have a unique and exquisite culinary experience if you so desire!  Now, let’s take a look at this extraordinary plan!

Smoking Spots to be Reduced at the Magic Kingdom

P1160672
P1160672

MK

As of last week Disney’s Magic Kingdom has reduced their smoking locations in the park. Now there will only be 4 smoking locations.

They are:

  • Near the entrance to Adventureland
  • Close to Big Thunder Mountain in Frontierland
  • Two on the walkway that connnects Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. (One is by the new Storybook Circus and the other is by Tomorrowland)

You will be able to find the new smoking spots on the park maps.

How do you feel about the changes?

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

Julia’s House is a children’s hospice charity dedicated to helping life-limited children and their families. The nurses and caregivers at Julia’s house provide life-changing support for parents and their children both in the hospice and in their own homes. The majority of those children are unlikely to live beyond the age of 18, but thankfully Julia’s House is there for them year-round, offering emergency respite and overnight care during treatment and offering emotional and practical support at the end of a child’s life.
