8 Walt Disney World Attractions with Hardly A Wait if You Time it Right!

AvoidingLinesatWaltDisneyWorld
AvoidingLinesatWaltDisneyWorld

AvoidingLinesatWaltDisneyWorld

With Summer almost here and crowd levels about to peak at Walt Disney World I’m always looking for tips and tricks to avoid lines but still experience all of my favorite attractions.

While making sure to choose your FastPass+ selections carefully and even getting to the park at rope drop to be one of the first in line to your favorites attraction are both great ideas, sometimes waiting until the later hours of the evening can be the best strategy for avoid long wait times.

Here are our Top 8 attractions that are worth a visit at the end of the day for a shorter wait time!

1. Splash Mountain:  While a classic Disney favorite, as the sun goes down (and temperatures drop) so does the wait time for this ride.  During the heat of the day this is a very popular ride for a quick cool down thanks to the plunge near the end of the ride.  Not as many guests wants to be a little wet walking around in the evenings as temperatures cool off.  That said, this is one ride where the experience can be totally different in the evening because so much of it is outdoors and seeing the park a 5 stories high all lit up is truly a breathtaking experience!

2. Spaceship Earth: If they aren’t heading to Soarin’ or Test Track, most people will head straight to Spaceship Earth upon entering Epcot.  That makes the wait at this attraction the longest in the few hours right after the park opens.  The wait is dramatically shorter as the day progresses, making this the perfect attraction to experience as you are heading out of the park for the evening.

3. Jungle Cruise: A trip to Magic Kingdom just isn’t complete for us without a ride on the Jungle Cruise.  I’m not sure if it’s because a lot of guests head left into Adventureland upon entering the park or if people think because this is an outdoor attraction it’s not as good in the evening but waits in the early evening and beyond tend to much shorter than the mornings (when they can peak at 90+ minutes!).  And because it is another outdoor attraction you’ll get a new experience riding at night.

4. Pirates of the Caribbean: This is another classic Walt Disney World attraction at Magic Kingdom and guests want to make sure they get to experience at least once during their visit so the wait times tend to be longer in the morning and afternoon but significantly lower in the evenings as people are moving on to other things.  This is certainly a “can’t miss ride” so if you don’t want to wait in a longer line, check it out after the sun goes down!

5. Dinosaur:  Found in Dinoland U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this is another attraction where the line dwindles as the day winds down.  Spend the afternoon enjoying some of the wonderful shows like Flights of Wonder and The Festival of the Lion King and plan on visiting Dinoland as you’re leaving the park for the day.

6. Great Movie Ride: Just like Spaceship Earth at Epcot, The Great Movie Ride is a popular first attraction for guests at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, again making the  morning wait times much longer than the wait times in the evening.  Again, this is the perfect end of the day attraction as you head out of the park instead of when you first enter.

7. The Haunted Mansion:  This one kind of baffles me, but the wait times for Haunted Mansion tend to decrease as the evening wears on.  And even if the wait is a tad longer than you’d like, the interactive queue is even more fun after dark – adding some extra spooky effects.

8. Character Meet and Greets:  Wait times to meet characters tend to peak in the early morning hours and slowly lessen as the day goes on.  That’s partially because children are less likely to be in the mood to meet their favorite character after a long day in the park – especially if they are sleepy!  If you can, use this to your advantage and try and get in line later in the day to meet your favorite Disney characters.

One last tip – if there are two showings of the Main Street Electrical Parade or Fantasmic at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios and you can stay for the later one, use the time during the first one to hit up some of the more popular attractions.  Wait times for Seven Dwarf Mine Train have gone down to under 30 minutes during the parade and fireworks and same with other lines that usually have a long wait, like meeting Elsa and Anna and Peter Pan’s Flight.

Some Yummy Food to Keep up Your Energy Up at the Disney World 24 Hour Event

24 hour cupcake
24 hour cupcake

The 24 hour event is fast approaching, I know I can’t wait. I know you are wondering and planning what you are going to eat and snack on to keep your energy going so you can make the full 24 hours.

So here are some suggestions to wet your whistle:

My personal favorite is a cupcake. I love all cupcakes, but I can’t wait to try the one pictured above! ! You can find this little slice of heaven at The Main Street Bakery, Main Street Confectionery, Gaston’s Tavern, and Big Top Souvenirs. If you want something slightly healthier you could always get a waffle sandwich from Sleepy Hollow in Liberty Square. The Fruit and Nutella one is the best! Don’t forget a Starbucks Coffee to keep you awake!  Sounds like a great way to start the day to me!

On to lunch:

The Mac and Cheese from from The Friar’s Nook is so good. If that is not your thing then try Pinocchio Village Haus their flatbread pizza and salads are really good. If you happen to be strolling down Main Street you could stop at Casey’s for a classic hot dog and fries.

Snack time:

At 4 p.m. you can check out the Tomorrowland beach party, and grab a snack at The Lunching Pad. They will have fa tropical watermelon lemonade, I will have to try one of those! Don’t forget the special gourmet hot dog topped with pulled pork and cole slaw. Last, but not least a crisped rice treat shaped like a flip-flop available only during the beach party. Maybe you are not in the mood for any of that, well who doesn’t love fries? Try the gourmet waffle fries from Golden Oak Outpost.

Don’t forget to pace yourself!

For dinner, try the new Deluxe Chicken Sandwich with pepper jack cheese, bacon and chipotle mayo at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café, or you can try one of the new Rice Bowls at Tortuga Tavern. If you find yourself in Liberty Square when hunger hits try the Seafood Mac and Cheese.

My favorite meal, DESSERT!

While you are waiting to watch Wishes, why not pick up some ice cream from the Plaza Ice Cream Shop. I think I will finally try the Kitchen Sink Sundae, or as some call it the Mickey Pants Sundae.  Not in the mood for ice cream? You can take a short walk to the confectionery and pick from one of the many amazing snacks/desserts they have to choose from. No matter what you pick you can’t go wrong!

If you are a brave soul and make it the full 24 hours, then you might want breakfast before you leave so you can go back to your room and crash! Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café will have a breakfast plate loaded up with bacon, scrambled eggs and herb-crusted roasted red skin potatoes. Yes please!

It all sounds soooo good! What sounds god to you?

Beware of Disneyland Ticket Scams

dl tickets

I always say, if something seems too good to be true then it probably is! The Los Angeles Police had been warning people about a Disneyland ticket scam making it’s round.

This time the scammers are using Craigslist and selling the supposed tickets for half of their admission price. The scammer has made thousands of dollars in just a few months. The unsuspecting victims arrange to meet him in downtown LA and he lets them make a copy of his license which leads them to believe that he is legit. All they are left with is useless tickets.

Always make sure and use a reputable company like Undercover Tourists or a reputable Travel Agency like World of Magic Travel Services.

Or you can contact a Travel Agent, such as myself, to help with your vacation planning. I am a Travel Agent with World of Magic Travel Services. We are reputable and experienced. I would love to work my magic on your next vacation! Contact me at [email protected] for your FREE no obligation quote.

Top “Must Pack” Items for a day at Walt Disney World with family!

ponchos
ponchos

ponchos

There’s a lot to think about when planning your family’s WDW vacation – there’s the big things like when to go, where to eat, what rides and attractions to visit – and then there’s the smaller things – things many of us might not even think much about ahead of time, like “what should I pack when I leave for the Parks in the morning?” Well, here are some “must pack” items that will make your days at the Parks MUCH easier:

Ponchos: The thing about Florida is – it rains. A lot. Like, pretty much daily in the summer and during hurricane season. So be prepared by bringing along your own ponchos. We bought ours for $7 a piece at Target, they are nice and thick and reusable and come with a mesh pouch to store them in – they have seen us through many rainy days at Disney and have paid for themselves for sure! You can also buy single use ones at your local dollar store (ours has them two to a pack for $1!). They won’t keep you as dry as the reusable ones, but for the price and the size (they hardly take up any bag space at all!) – they can’t be beat!

Ziploc Baggies: These have a lot of uses – saving half a snack for later, protecting your wallet/phone/camera from the wetness of a ride or the rain, protecting any documents like park maps, itineraries etc. They really come in handy for a lot of things, and I personally like to bring a few different sizes too – they can really save the day

Water Bottles: I bring one or two larger empty ones along in my suitcase, and fill them with water and ice at my Disney Resort before I leave for the day. It’s really important to stay hydrated, especially in the heat and with the amount of walking you are doing at Disney. Another perk to this is it’s a money saver – if I bought a bottled drink every time someone in my family was thirsty, I would be out $15-20 a day easy, so I definitely prefer to bring along my own water bottle. If you don’t love the taste of Florida water, you can bring along a water bottle with a filter attached

Snacks: You’ll want to make sure you have some granola bars, fruit snacks, trail mix, or other assorted snacks in your bag at all times – just in case you need something to hold you over until it’s time for your next meal – they come in especially handy when you find yourself in a LONGGGG ride line and you’re nowhere near the ride and your little one starts whining that he/she is hungry…that granola bar in your bag just saved you from a toddler meltdown. You’re welcome.

Sunscreen: That Florida heat comes from that big bright thing in the sky – not only does it make us sweat, but it will burn us – badly – if we don’t take the proper precautions. Ideally, long sleeves and hats are best – but getting everyone in your family to agree to that is near impossible, so I recommend you apply sunscreen before leaving in the morning, and bring it along with you so you can reapply as needed (ie – every couple of hours or more often if you get wet/sweat a lot). I like the spray on kind, but any variety will help protect your skin from the harsh Florida sun

Extra Batteries/Power Packs for Your Camera/Phone: Even if you make sure to fully charge all your electronics before leaving for the Parks, you still may find yourself with a dead battery – so make sure you’re prepared with extra batteries for your camera, and bring along a charger case or battery pack for your phone. And if you find yourself stuck and need a plug to charge up your devices, then check out these WDW phone charging locations

Ok – so the question you might be asking yourself after reading all that is – “Wait – can’t I buy this stuff at the Disney Parks? Why do I have to bring it with me?” And the truth is – you don’t HAVE to bring this stuff with you – BUT – it will save you time, money and headaches – and who doesn’t want that?

Packing these items is a “must do” for me and my family because it has been proven (through rigorous testing) that having these items on hand results in less whining and fewer meltdowns – and I hope that by planning ahead and packing your bag with these and other useful items, you can say the same!

D23 Launches The First Fanniversary Home Edition

Fanniversary

Fanniversary

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club is bringing its popular Fanniversary event into the homes of members and Disney fans around the world, with Fanniversary Home Edition. This year’s inaugural home event celebrates the 60th anniversary of Disney’s classic canine love story Lady and the Tramp.

You can join the fun by visiting D23.com/D23Fanniversary.

Starting May 29, guests can begin preparing for the party by downloading invitations, decorations, crafts, games, and even a traditional spaghetti and meatballs recipe provided by the talented chefs of The Chew.

Then from June 12–14 it’s time to party! Throughout the weekend, D23 will unveil new and classic content on D23.com about the animated favorite, including:

  • A new video featuring original artwork from the Animation Research Library
  • A series of the original “Scamp” comics
  • A gallery of Lady and the Tramp items from the Walt Disney Archives
  • Features full of fun facts about the film, including a piece by Disney music historian Randy Thornton looking at the development of the movie’s beloved songs
  • A story on Walt Disney’s own dogs and how they influenced some of his movies

Plus, fans are encouraged to join the conversation on D23’s social media using the hashtag #D23Fanniversary (follow “DisneyD23” on all platforms). One of the many downloadables will be a “selfie station” where fans can pose as the film’s canine couple enjoying a plate of pasta at Tony’s Restaurant, and then upload their shots on social media. Throughout the weekend, D23 also invites fans to post “Dogglegangers”—photos of their own pooches who look like the dynamic dogs from the film—and share stories of dogs they have adopted.

Fans are encouraged to watch the beloved film all weekend long. And for those who would like to watch as one big group, at 5 p.m. PDT on Saturday, June 13, D23 encourages fans around the world to hit “play” on their DVD, Blu-ray, or digital device to kick off the largest Lady and the Tramp viewing party ever. Follow on Twitter, as D23 will be live tweeting out fun facts, commentary, and questions for the audience.

Lady and the Tramp, which had its premiere on June 16, 1955, tells the story of Lady, a young cocker spaniel from a “respectable” home, who falls in love with Tramp, a mutt who lives in the railroad yards. The idea for the film came from a short story by Ward Greene entitled “Happy Dan, the Whistling Dog.” The film stars such voice talents as Barbara Luddy as Lady; Larry Roberts as Tramp; and Peggy Lee as Darling, the Siamese cats, and Peg, the show dog.
