Disneyland Reroutes Crowds as Downtown Disney Porto’s Construction Tightens Walkways

DowntownDisneyPortosConstruction

Disneyland Resort has implemented a temporary backstage bypass during peak exit hours to alleviate significant foot traffic congestion in Downtown Disney. This strategic reroute is a direct response to the ongoing construction of the highly anticipated Porto’s Bakery & Cafe, which has narrowed primary thoroughfares.

According to Disneyland officials, the resort is proactively managing guest flow on select high-attendance days. The shift ensures that the “rush hour” crowds—typically seen following nighttime spectaculars—can exit the parks safely without getting stuck in bottlenecks near the construction site.

DowntownDisneyPortosConstruction

To assist with the transition, clear signage has been installed throughout the area, and Disneyland Cast Members are stationed along the route to provide directions. Officials expect this detour to remain active for approximately one month as heavy infrastructure work continues.

The transformation began in December with the demolition of the former La Brea Bakery site. To bypass the current “human traffic jam,” guests heading toward the esplanade are directed through the “elephant doors” near World of Disney, traveling behind the Soarin’ attraction before emerging near the Disney California Adventure entrance.

The current construction walls for the Porto’s project have significantly compressed the walking space near the iconic poppy fountain. This reduction in square footage previously caused major gridlock for guests moving between the theme parks and the Downtown Disney parking lots.

Once completed, the new Downtown Disney Porto’s will be a premier destination for fans of the iconic Southern California brand. The expansive location is set to house a traditional bakery, a quick-service cafe, a full-service sit-down restaurant, and a dedicated bar.

Animation Courtyard Gets a Studio Glow Up as Imagineering Files New Signage Permits at Hollywood Studios

The makeover of Animation Courtyard is stepping into the spotlight! Walt Disney Imagineering has just filed two new permits tied to the transformation of the area into the Walt Disney Studios Lot at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and it is all about the signs of the times. Literally. New signage is on the way for the reimagined space, hinting that this long awaited retheme is moving full speed ahead toward its phased summer debut.

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed permits for signage installation in the former Animation Courtyard area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Both permits list Design Communications as the contractor, with the scope of work simply noted as install signage. Sometimes the smallest paperwork carries the biggest story. 📄✨ The first permit covers the building currently home to The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure. While the show itself is staying put, the building will be renamed the Studio Theater as part of the Walt Disney Studios Lot theme inspired by the real studio in Burbank. That likely means fresh exterior lettering is on the way to match the new old Hollywood vibe.

The second permit is tied to the former Animation Courtyard archway address. That iconic entrance was demolished back in October 2025, clearing the way for a new look. Concept art teases a low profile sign reading The Walt Disney Studios, giving the space more of that authentic studio lot feel rather than a theme park courtyard. It is a subtle shift that signals a bigger storytelling move, blending park magic with behind the scenes movie making energy.

This retheme will also see the return of The Magic of Disney Animation inside the former Star Wars Launch Bay, along with a new Disney Jr. stage show expected to open first in the phased rollout. Recent aerial photos show updated hardscape, added mature trees, and continued work on the entrance that will eventually feature the Sorcerer Mickey hat once again. With summer on the horizon, it feels like this corner of the park is ready for its close up.

If you’re the kind of Disney fan who believes there’s no such thing as too many cats or too many bags, then pull up a chair. BoxLunch has just dropped an absolute gem that’s basically a purr-fect storm of nostalgia and cozy vibes: The Aristocats Kittens and Yarn Mini Backpack.

Retailing for $79.90, this isn’t just your average accessory, it’s a full-on tribute to Marie, Berlioz, and Toulouse. Here is why this exclusive piece is currently winning the internet.

What really sets this bag apart from the sea of Disney merch is the texture. Instead of a standard flat pocket, the front of the bag features a fuzzy, 3D yarn ball-shaped pocket. It looks, and feels, like a giant ball of pink wool, making the whole bag look like it’s right out of Madame Bonfamille’s mansion. It’s tactile, it’s quirky, and let’s be honest, it’s incredibly satisfying to poke.

The aesthetic doesn’t stop at the yarn. Scattered around the bag are high-quality embroidered designs of the three iconic kittens. You’ve got Marie looking as ladylike as ever, alongside Berlioz and Toulouse, all getting tangled up in the yarn theme. Because these are embroidered rather than just printed, the designs have a premium feel that won’t peel or fade after a few trips to the parks.

As a BoxLunch Exclusive, you aren’t going to find this sitting on a shelf at your local big-box store. Whether you’re pairing it with a pastel Disney bound or just need something cute to hold your essentials while you run errands, this bag hits that sweet spot between functional gear and a literal stuffed animal.

Guest Vacation Photos Being Removed at Olivia’s Cafe in Disney’s Old Key West Resort

Olivia’s Cafe Begins Refurbishment and Photo Relocation

For decades, the walls of Olivia’s Cafe at Disney’s Old Key West Resort have served as a living scrapbook. Thousands of photos featuring smiling Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Members have lined the dining rooms, creating a “home-away-from-home” atmosphere that defined the resort’s charm.

However, change is coming to Conch Flats. As part of an extensive interior refurbishment, these iconic guest photos are being removed from the walls to make way for a fresh look.

Preserving the Memories

If you’re worried about your family’s vacation legacy disappearing, no need for concern. Disney isn’t tossing these memories away; they are giving them a new, protected home.

  • The Problem: Over the years, many of the physical photographs have begun to age or fade due to sunlight and the humidity of the Florida environment.
  • The Solution: The collection is being thoughtfully relocated into archival-quality albums.
  • New Location: You can find these preserved memories at Conch Flats Community Hall, the resort’s central gathering spot.

The Community Hall is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., allowing Members and Guests to flip through the albums and reminisce in a comfortable, climate-controlled setting.

What to Expect During the Refurbishment

The renovation process at Olivia’s Cafe is already underway, and guests visiting in the coming weeks will notice some logistical changes:

  • Phase-Based Work: Renovations began in the back of the restaurant and are moving toward the front.
  • Closures: As of February 16, a portion of the dining room is unavailable. The back room is currently partitioned off with paper and blinds covering the windows.
  • Business as Usual: Despite the construction tape and relocated decor, Olivia’s Cafe remains open. You can still get your Southernmost Buttermilk Fried Chicken—you just might be sitting in a slightly smaller dining area for the time being.

A Fresh Look for a Classic

While the “wall of fame” was a cornerstone of the original Old Key West aesthetic, this routine maintenance aims to modernize the space while honoring its history. By moving the photos to the Community Hall, Disney ensures they stay protected from further wear and tear while freeing up the restaurant walls for a refreshed design.

The work is expected to last for several weeks. If you have a photo currently on the wall, it will eventually be transitioned into the new communal albums as the refurbishment reaches the check-in area.

Set in the era following the fall of the Empire, the story finds Imperial warlords still scattered and dangerous throughout the galaxy. In an effort to stabilize the fledgling New Republic and protect the hard-won peace of the Rebellion, officials have enlisted the services of legendary bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his apprentice, Grogu.

Elite Cast and Creative Team

The film boasts a powerhouse lineup both in front of and behind the camera:

  • Production: The project is produced by the veteran team of Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce.
  • Music: Academy Award-winner Ludwig Göransson is back to compose the score, ensuring the film retains its iconic soundscape.

Disneyland Testing New Merchandise Search Feature

Disneyland Beta Tests Enhanced Merch Search

Disneyland is currently beta-testing a “Find Merchandise” tool within its official app. This new feature aims to take the guesswork out of shopping by helping guests pinpoint exactly where specific souvenirs are stocked throughout the resort.

Disneyland App users may notice a new homepage feature that allows for remote merchandise browsing. Currently, this pilot program is limited to Lunar New Year items at select locations, including Elias & Co., Festival Gifts, and Embarcadero Gifts in Disney California Adventure, as well as Acorns Gifts & Goods at the Grand Californian Hotel.

ears

After selecting “Try it Out,” a disclaimer confirms the feature is a limited-time test for the festival. The tool allows guests to search a specific database of shop inventory; for instance, a search for a “shirt” can be further filtered by size to check real-time availability. The app then displays stock levels, such as “low stock”. This follows a similar test at Walt Disney World’s World of Disney store last year, though that pilot has not yet resulted in a permanent app update.

Do you think this is a feature you’d take advantage of?
