Walt Disney Pictures shares the new movie poster for Tom Hanks‘ upcoming spy thriller, Bridge of Spies.  Academy Award®-winning director and producer, Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks Pictures/Fox 2000 Pictures brings us one of my all time favorites, Tom Hanks in the starring role.

Interwoven into a series of historic events, Bridge of Spies tells the story of a Brooklyn attorney, James Donovan who is thrown into the middle of the Cold War when the CIA recruits him on the impossible mission to negotiate the release of a captured American U-2 pilot.

Producing the film alongside Spielberg are Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger.   Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King are executive producers.  Screenwriters Ethan and Joel Coen and Matt Charman have taken Donavan’s story and bring it to the big screen capturing the highs and lows of a man who risked everything.

Bridge of Spies gives us two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks as James Donovan; three-time Tony Award® winner Mark Rylance as Rudolf Abel, a KGB agent defended by Donovan; Scott Shepherd as CIA operative Hoffman; Academy Award nominee Amy Ryan as James’ wife, Mary; Sebastian Koch as East German lawyer Vogel; and Academy Award nominee Alan Alda as Thomas Watters, a partner at Donovan’s law   firm.

Bridge of Spies will be released in theaters on October 16, 2015.

Bridge of Spies is at the very top of my list of upcoming movies I just have to see!  What is your top must see movie?   Let your favorite Entertainment Writer bring you all the updates and entertainment news by signing up for our newsletter at www.chipandco.com.    See ya at the movies!

Celebrate Dads On Father’s Day at Walt Disney World Resort

Fathers day at WDW
Fathers day at WDW

It’s doesn’t have to be Father’s Day for you to show Dad how much you appreciate him. Walt Disney World Resort salutes dads every day with a flurry of father-friendly activities sure to get him out of the “man cave” and into some theme park fun.

Walt Disney created Disneyland Park as a place for moms and dads to enjoy with their children and his vision extends to all of the Disney theme parks today, including Walt Disney World Resort. This nearly 40-square mile playground overflows with classic attractions, thrills, lively shows and fun for the entire family, but here’s some manly options to make dad feel like a king on his next Disney vacation:

Wild Africa Trek
This African expedition experience is just right for the dad with an adventurous spirit, and there’s no passport required. At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, dad can explore exotic African wildlife in their natural habitat on a privately guided, three-hour journey through a savannah. Wild Africa Trek also invites trekkers to a serene, savannah-view overlook while enjoying African-inspired food and beverage. Wild Africa Trek is $189 to $249 per person, plus tax  (prices vary based on season). The tour can be booked by calling 407-WDW-TOUR and is not included with Disney’s Animal Kingdom admission.

Guided Fishing Excursion
Whether a seasoned sportsman or an amateur angler, there’s nothing more relaxing than fishing at sunrise on Bay Lake with spectacular views of the Magic Kingdom. Dads can reel in the fun with an unforgettable two- or four-hour, catch-and-release fishing trip that includes a private guide and all the fishing supplies. Call 407-939-2277.

Art of Shaving
This new boutique at Downtown Disney offers premium shaving supplies, plus hair and body grooming products ideal for dad. There are razors, shaving brushes, pre-shave oils and creams for a barbershop-like shave. Dads can get expert shaving advice on products and techniques, or make an appointment for a luxurious grooming experience at the Barber Spa.

World-Class Spas Aren’t Just for Mom
To soothe and unwind after a day at the theme parks, treat dad to some spaaaaaaaah time. With two full-service Senses spas at Walt Disney World Resort, dad can rejuvenate and recharge with a variety of treatments including sports massage, reflexology, custom firm, or a Swedish massage. Call 407-939-7727.

Golfing Galore
An active dad is a happy dad. While the family enjoys the theme parks, dad can hit the links with three 18-hole championship golf courses, or a 9-hole walking course. There’s even Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf with one course that resembles a traditional golf course but built on a miniature scale. This challenging skills course offers sand traps, bunkers, water hazards and sloping greens.

Food Lover’s Paradise
With hundreds of eateries at Disney there’s everything from casual to gourmet to satisfy dad’s appetite. From fresh seasonal dishes at California Grill and first-rate oak-fired beef at Yachtsman Steakhouse, to a nostalgic meal in a 50s-style drive-in at Sci-Fi Dine In, the sky is the limit. And if dad is a foodie, there’s a culinary extravaganza featuring celebrity chefs, wine tasting, craft beers and savory samplings during the annual Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, Sept. 25 through Nov. 16, 2015.

ESPN Club
Dad doesn’t have to miss watching his favorite team or that big playoff game while on vacation. ESPN Club at Disney’s BoardWalk is the ultimate sports bar featuring 100 big screens, interactive games, dozens of beers, plus nachos, fries and ESPN Wings.

ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
This 220-acre complex – a place for both pro and amateur athletics — features more than 170 annual events. Treat dad to some wings or nachos while you watch a game on one of seven HDTVs at ESPN Wide World of Sports Grill or in early spring, head to the ballpark with dad and catch the Atlanta Braves during a spring training game.

Splitsville Luxury Lanes
Take dad out to a night of good old-fashioned bowling in a retro, vintage-style venue at Downtown Disney. This trendy, two-level location features 30 lanes, plus live entertainment, a balcony bar, and a variety of dining options with all dad’s favorites such as filet sliders, pizza and even sushi.

Sosa Family Cigars
This fifth generation premium cigar store showcases the art of hand-rolling cigars. An authentic, solid cedar humidor room keeps the stogies fresh for a primo smoking experience. Treat dad to more than 80 brands of cigars at including Auturo Fuente, Padron, Imerio Cubano, and Guente Guente Opus XE. Sosa Family Cigars is located at Downtown Disney West Side.

How are you going to celebrate Dad?

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

Make the most of your Character interactions at Walt Disney World

10435101_10204313305415539_642387208589003375_n

Disney if full of adorable, lovable and just have to meet Characters. Let’s be honest, if you’re going one of the Disney parks, there is a character you want to meet. There are multiple ways to make your experience more memorable, and for the Cast Members and other guests around you as well. If we all do a few little things while in line and during the Meet & Greets, it can make it just a little more Magical for everyone!

Wait lines can be long (If you don’t have a FP), especially when you are dying with anticipation to meet that special character. While in line remember everyone else around you probably feels the same. Tired, feet hurt, hot and have kids. Keep an eye on your kids. Don’t let them run around, play on the ropes and bump into everyone. Maybe play a game, tell a story, get others around you involved. Make it fun. If your child just isn’t ready to see the life size Tinkerbell.. maybe sit it out until they are ready. Forcing a child while they scream won’t be fun or magical and might not make them give it another shot down the road. They can always catch some characters at a parade and get use to the “real life” character, not just on TV.

Once your party is counted and you move on to the room where your moment is almost there, quick checklist. Make sure you and your little ones are ready. Hair-Check, Mickey Ears-Check, Dress fixed-Check, Kids mickey ice cream bar face cleaned-Check. Then make sure whatever you are using to take pictures is ready to go. Camera lens is off, settings are right, phone is charged etc. Also anything you want signed, to be opened and ready. Most CMs will give you a friendly reminder. (Hint: Most Characters have thick gloves, bigger pen is best) Make sure your child doesn’t run and cut someone else off. I know, excitement is overwhelming and they don’t know better, just talk and keep them contained until it is their turn. Characters, just liek us, need potty and water breaks.. So if the CM says they will be back in a few minutes, everyone else behind you is waiting too. Making a scene won’t do anything. Nature calls. We can’t stop it! Just know.. they WILL be back. Also know the Do’s and Don’ts.

Alright! The time has come.. Cinderella (or your character of choice) is right in front of you. She is right there! She looks right at you and you just want to burst! It’s you’re time with Cindy, make the most of it! Talk to her, tell her how you just love her shoes, let your little princess dance with her and just be in awe. While the candid shots are so precious, try to plan out a pose you really want your little one to do with the character. If you get caught up in the moment OR want to jump in on the picture of course! There are usually PhotoPass Photographers waiting to snap pics to cherish! If you’re with a large group of 2 families, take a group shot and maybe each family. Do single pictures if it is their favorite picture. You don’t want to spend the whole time just taking 15 pictures and not interacting! While there is no “time limit” there is a whole line of adults and kid alike that are about to burst with excitement just like you were and Cindy has a lot of people to meet! Manners still matter! Be considerate and try to keep it fun, happy and upbeat!

Character interactions are one of my favorite parts of my families Disney vacations! We love the magic of meeting those special on screen characters and get to take a picture with them! We all do a few little things to help our wait, and have a smooth magical interaction, and it makes it better for everyone! If you want some more time to chat or in a relaxed environment, think about a Character Dining! They are fun and sometimes you can find some great Characters!

Ready to catch up with your favorite character? My name is Jamie and I’d love to help you get the best deal coming home! I’m an Independent Travel Agent with World of Magic Travel, and a WDW local and a Disney Addict myself! I’m also a writer for Chip & Co. Disney World Resort Offers Guests Magical Fishing Opportunities

disney fishing

World-class theme parks, resort hotels and attractions are not the only reasons for visiting Walt Disney World Resort. There’s fishing, too, with largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie and catfish swimming in lakes and canals almost within casting distance of some of Disney’s most iconic landmarks.

From true beginners to expert anglers, thousands of Walt Disney World guests annually participate in fishing excursions sponsored by Take Me Fishing, the nation’s preeminent authority on the sport of fishing. Guests can venture onto any of Disney’s four lakes – Bay Lake, Seven Seas Lagoon, Lake Buena Vista and Crescent Lake – via marinas located at nine resorts across property. Popular catch-and-release excursions can provide guests with an unrivaled view of Cinderella Castle and Spaceship Earth, or they can take guests away from the theme parks for a unique opportunity to experience the natural wilderness that surrounds Walt Disney World Resort.

During construction of the Magic Kingdom theme park in the late 1960s, more than 70,000 bass fingerlings were released into Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon. Organized fishing tours didn’t start at Walt Disney World Resort until 1977, leaving bass to grow and breed undisturbed for years. Most trips catch five to 10 fish, usually weighing in around two pounds, depending upon time of day, number of people on board and, of course, luck.

Two- and four-hour catch-and-release tours led by experienced fishing guides are offered daily on an advance-reservation basis year round. Guests can choose from the Guided Bass Fishing Excursions, which include a 21-foot SunTracker pontoon boat that can accommodate up to five guests, and Bass Nitro Fishing, which features a tournament-style Nitro Bass boat for one or two people. Both boats are fully equipped with rods, reels, fishing gear and beverages. Take Me Fishing excursions provide guests with access to world-class equipment like Castaway Rods & Wave Spin Reels, as well as boats outfitted with Lowrance depth finders, Power-Poles and other professional-grade fishing equipment.

In addition to having access to some of the industry’s best equipment, exceptional guides and Disney’s well-managed lakes, all Take Me Fishing excursion participants at Walt Disney World Resort receive a one-year BASS membership, which includes 11 issues of Bassmaster magazine and other special discounts and benefits.

Guests looking to experience something a little closer to their resort can take advantage of the dockside fishing opportunities at Disney by renting casting-rod fishing gear from the Bike Barn at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground or opting for traditional cane-pole fishing at the Fishin’ Hole at Old Man Island at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside.

Reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance by calling 407-WDW-BASS.

250 Disney World Employees to be Replaced by Outsourcing

Disney World Sign

In October, 250 Disney employees were given pink slips and some of them were told that they would have to train the foreign employees that would take over their job. These jobs are being transferred to immigrants on temporary visas for highly skilled technical workers. They were brought in by an outsourcing firm located in India.

These employees are some of the most important in how things flow at Disney World. They are data/tech employees. They keep computers running smoothly so that your resort reservations and ticket purchases do not go poof and disappear into cyberspace.

Disney execs said that the layoffs were part of a reorganization, and that the company actually opened more positions than it eliminated. They claim they actually added 70 tech jobs.

These visas are often used to bring in immigrants to do the work of Americans for less money. There are a limited number of these types of visas given every year, but they are in high demand.

Disney World does employee about 74,000 cast members. So the tech employees that were laid off were a very small part of that, but any layoffs are never a good thing! However Disney did not just leave them hanging. Employees that were laid off were allowed a 3 month transition with resume coaching to help them possibly get other jobs within the company, Disney executives said. 120 of those laid off did end up with new jobs at Disney, and about 40 retired or left the company before the end of the transition period was over. Sadly, 90 of them did not find new Disney jobs. Disney did not offer retraining and most of the employees that did find other positions within the company were at lower wages. They did offer  a “stay bonus” of 10 percent of severance pay if they remained for 90 days. But the bonus was contingent on “the continued satisfactory performance of your job duties.” For most employees that meant staying and training their replacement.

Former employees said many of the new employees/immigrants who they were training were much younger with limited computer skills and they did not speak English fluently and had to be taught the very basics of the work.

Have you heard of the Partnership for a New American Economy? Well, Robert Iger, is a co-chair with Michael R. Bloomberg, and Rupert Murdoch. They push for an overhaul of immigration laws, which includes an increase in these types of visas.

I am the first to say how much I love all things Disney, but this just makes me feel not so magical! What do you think?

We hope the best for the laid off employees!

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

EUGENE, RAPUNZEL

BEST! DAY! EVER!

Tangled,” an animated series for kids, tween and families, based on Walt Disney Animation Studios’ acclaimed feature film, has begun production with Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi reprising their roles as Rapunzel and Eugene (also known as Flynn Rider). The series will premiere in 2017 on Disney Channels around the world. It was announced today by Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer, Disney Channels Worldwide. It will also reunite Disney Legend and Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater.

Produced by Disney Television Animation, the series was developed by animation veterans Chris Sonnenburg (Disney‘s “Enchanted”) and Shane Prigmore (“The Lego Movie”).

Marsh said, “The genius of the original movie was its seamless blending of cinematic adventure, character-driven comedy and touching emotion. And we are fortunate to have several of the creative talent from that movie on board with this new production. With the addition of Chris and Shane as Executive Producers, we have the perfect team in place to create a series worthy of the original film.”

Set between the events of the feature film and the start of the 2012 short film, “Tangled Ever After,” the animated series unfolds as Rapunzel acquaints herself with her parents, her kingdom and the people of Corona. Her irrepressible spirit and natural curiosity about the world drives her to the realization that there is so much more she needs to learn before she can truly accept her royal destiny. She boldly puts her crown and impending marriage on hold to seek out epic adventures, much to the dismay of the King who, after missing out on Rapunzel’s youth, must accept that his daughter is now an independent young woman. Accompanying Rapunzel on her journey will be Eugene; the plucky chameleon sidekick, Pascal; the no-nonsense horse, Maximus; the Snuggly Duckling Pub Thugs; and newcomer Cassandra, a tough-as-nails handmaiden, who becomes Rapunzel’s confidant.

In 2012, Disney Channel presented the “Tangled Ever After” short, which delivered 5.0 million Total Viewers, 2.6 million Kids 2-11 and 1.4 million Adults 18-49.
Sonnenburg is the executive producer and supervising director and Prigmore is co-executive producer and creative director. Jase Ricci (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) is story editor. Celebrated artist Claire Keane (“Frozen,” “Tangled“), daughter of Disney Legend Glen Keane, who was animation supervisor on the feature film, consulted on development of the series. Emmy Award-winning Kevin Kliesch (“Tangled Ever After”) will serve as score composer.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 50th animated feature “Tangled” introduced audiences worldwide to long-locked Rapunzel and charming bandit Flynn Rider in one of the most hilarious, hair-raising tales ever told. Debuting over Thanksgiving in 2010, “Tangled” opened with $68.7 million and went on to earn $200 million domestically and more than $593 million globally, becoming one of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ biggest releases of all time. Featuring music by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater, the film was nominated for Golden Globe® and Critics Choice awards for best animated film, as well as best song for “I See the Light,” which also won a Grammy® Award and was nominated for an Academy Award®. Rapunzel, Flynn and their friends Pascal and Maximus returned to the big screen for a royal wedding in the 2012 short film “Tangled Ever After.” Guests can experience the magic of “Tangled” at Disney Parks around the world, including dazzling encounters with Rapunzel herself at Magic Kingdom, Disneyland, and Hong Kong Disneyland. Rapunzel is not only one of the top-selling roleplay dresses at Disney Store but one of the most popular Disney Princess characters overall across licensed, Disney Store and Disney Publishing merchandise.
