Uniqlo

Great news Disney fashion fans! Japanese apparel brand Uniqlo has announced their plan to expand their Disney clothing collection. The new collection will feature Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars Characters. There is also news that a limited edition shirt designed by John Lasseter will be available as well!

The new line will be called “Magic for All” and will include shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, and toys. “Magic for All” will officially be unveiled at the D23 Expo in August. Unfortunately, as of right now, there aren’t many pictures of the new line to share with you, but I’m sure that will all change after the D23 Expo. Just a few more weeks of waiting!

Alas, we will have to wait a bit longer for the ability to actually purchase from the line. The collection will hit the Uniqlo Shanghai global store in late September, and won’t be released in additional Uniqlo stores in Spring 2016. Once the line is fully launched, you will also be able to find the pieces at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World. I am really hoping this means that the collection will also be available for purchase online, but we will just have to wait and see.

If you can’t wait until then, you can check out the existing Disney Uniqlo collection here.

What do you think? Are you excited for the new line? Let us know in the comments!

A First Timer’s Guide: The Top 15 Things You Need to Know About Disney World

Art of Animation
Art of Animation

Art of Animation

Time and time again we hear of amazing things that Disney has or even does!  Disney always seems to have “something up their sleeve” and they tend to have every corner covered!  Each aspect of Disney has been carefully laid out and not one thing goes unnoticed!  Today we will look at the top 15 things as first timer’s we want and need to know about this place called, Disney World!

  1. No Plastic In Animal Kingdom:  Animal Kingdom is known for none other than its thriving wildlife!  In an effort to protect them you will not find plastic straws, cups or lids at this park.  Balloons are also prohibited from this park!  Straws are made of cardboard and cups are all paper.
  2.  No Gum:  You can not purchase gum while at Disney World.  This staple is not sold anywhere on Disney property.  If you chew gum be sure tp bring it with you!  Be sure to take a look around while you are there!  It is a rare occasion to find gum stuck to the sidewalks, table, benches or even the rides!  )
  3. Fairy Dust:  An alternative to making a reservation at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is a quick stop-by one of them for a special “sprinkling” of fairy dust!  This is free of charge for your prince or princess and allows them to have a touch of “magic” for the day!  Be sure to check out the Boutique at The World Of Disney Store in Downtown Disney or the Boutique at the Magic Kingdom!
  4. Hidden Mickey’s:  Be on the look out for Hidden Mickey’s while you are on vacation!  These can be hidden ANYWHERE!  They are in attractions, bedding, rugs, cups, sidewalks, resorts, theme parks, restaurants etc.  If you can see it, you can guarantee you will find a mickey somewhere!  Be on the look out for guide books and scavenger hunts!
  5. Wake Up Calls:  Did you know that you can have a wake up call each morning?  The best part about this is it can be from one of your favorite characters!  Be sure to set this up when you arrive at your Disney resort room!  Happy Wake Ups!
  6. Transportation Time:  Disney transportation will probably take longer then you think.  You always want to plan for approximately 1 hour to 1 and a half hours transportation time between destinations.  My family tends to plan for this so we are not rushing to our dining reservations or to theme park opening.  After all, we are on vacation!  There is no need to rush.  For example, if you have a 6pm dining reservation you will want to be headed to the bus stop by approximately 4:30pm.
  7. My Disney Experience:  Disney now has an app to control choices while you are in their theme parks.  You can make fastpass+ reservations, make dining reservations, check wait times, find characters and much more from this app!  Be sure to download it before leaving and use it regularly while you are on vacation!  This app has a ton of information and can be very useful to you and your family!
  8. Magic Kingdom sits on the 2nd floor:  When you walk into the Magic Kingdom, you are actually walking on the second floor.  On the first floor you will find the Utilidors.  Cast members use them to get around the park and for moving large quantities of merchandise and food around the park as well. There are many break rooms in the utilidors along with a cast cafeteria. There is also a room filled with all of the sounds of the park – like the howling of dogs from the Haunted Mansion. There are arrows pointing you where to go for a certain land.  Check out this map!
  9. Resort hopping is a must:  Be sure to jump on the monorail and ride it around while you are at the Magic Kingdom.  Stop at each resort and check out the shops and restaurants.  All are very unique.  While at Epcot or Hollywood Studios be sure to head over to The Boardwalk.  There are many options for night life, shops and activities happening daily!  Be sure to check out the ESPN Club and Jellyrolls!
  10. Trash cans are never more than 30 steps away:  This was one of Walt’s beliefs.  He wanted to keep his parks clean!  Therefore you will see trash cans very close to each other at all theme parks and resorts.  It has been said that Walt himself, did a ton of research on how long people hold onto their garbage.  This helped him created his vision.
  11. Pet Hotel:  Who would have thought you could bring your pet to Disney World?  Well, you can!  Disney has thought of it all here!  The Best Friends Pet Care Center is where your pet can also enjoy vacation!  This establishment is located on Disney property.  A link to for more information can be found here!
  12. Disney Dining Plan Symbol:  This symbol can be found at many of the quick service restaurants, food carts and snack shops around the Disney World theme parks and resorts.  Be sure to watch for this symbol when making purchases from your dining plan!
  13. Disney Buttons:  Disney has a button for every occasion it seems!  There are buttons for celebrating, first visits, birthday, engagements and much more!  Be sure to ask for your button at check in if you are celebrating something special!
  14. EPCOT is an acronym:  EPCOT opened on Friday, October 1, 1982.  It was Disney World’s second theme park and was Walt’s vision of a Utopian city of tomorrow.  EPCOT is an acronym for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.  You can see Walt’s vision as you ride the People Mover at the Magic Kingdom in Tomorrowland!
  15. Disney has Rider Switch:  No worries here!  Disney has thought of it again!  If your little ones are too little to ride your favorite ride, Disney has the solution!  It is called Rider Switch!  Here is how it works!  You tell the Cast Member at any ride that has a height requirement that you’d like to do a Rider Switch. They’ll give you a Rider Switch pass (like a FastPass) so that after you ride, you can hand it to the other half of your party and they can ride right away without waiting in line.

There are so many things to learn about Disney!  We learn  more and more each day about the hidden “agendas” in each park and the symbolization of each and every detail!  So many secrets and tips continue to make this the most magical place on earth!  I tend to sit in astonishment when I think that this man, named Walt, had such creativity and imagination!  I am very thankful that his dreams became a reality for my family to enjoy!  The memories created here are indescribable!  They touch the deepest hearts and brighten the saddest ones!  Walt would surely be proud of this place!

Deadpool who was last seen in the 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine falling into a nuclear cooling tower, is back!   Ryan Reynolds returns in the title role but tells us that this Deadpool is different and has no connection to the one in X-Men Origins:  Wolverine.  The new Deadpool brings viewers  a great soundtrack and hysterical one-liners with a stronger language and more adult content making Deadpool,  one of Marvel’s edgier movies.

Marvel Studios brings the story of a superhero or rather an anti-hero who after an accident, gains accelerated healing powers .   Wade Wilson is a former special forces operative who has turned mercenary after a rogue experiment goes wrong.  Armed with an alter ego (Deadpool), swords and twisted sense of humor, this martial artist is set on revenge and hunting down the man responsible for his life alterating changes.

Starring alongside Ryan Reynolds is Morena Baccarin playing Vanessa Carlysle / Copycat whose powers include ability to shift change, Brianna Hildebrand as Ellie Phimister / Negasonic Teenage Warhead with telepathy and precognition powers, Andre Tricoteux as Piotr Rasputin / Colossus who has ability to turn self into steel, and also starring, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, T.J. disney descendants

The magical team behind The Descendants which premiered Friday, July 31st, gave Disney fans a whole new look at Disney Villains. In this top ranked movie, which brought in 6.6 million viewers, and another 1.4 viewers of the preview on July 24th, The Descendants bring us the offspring of some of our favorite or not so favorite villains.

Director Kenny Ortega was asked if there were plans for a sequel. His response “Sure. I think-were you to ask the cast and crew-they’d agree that we’d all love to come back and play here again. The Descendants world really is a wonderful place to play in. More to the point, there are so many characters from the Disney animated films that we could draw upon, pull in. There are so many more stories to tell.” and the ending have viewers convinced there is much more Descendants coming our way. Mal (Dove Cameron)’s comment “Oh I was having so much fun I almost forgot. You didn’t think this was the end of the story did you?” and her green eyes at the end of the film can only mean she is going to be following in mommy dearest’s footsteps.

The Descendants has the potential not only for a sequel but for a TV series as in “Once Upon a Time” and / or several sequels – one for each of the main characters who have parental issues and a wicked childhood to overcome.

The Villains have a huge following and Descendants‘ focus on the kids will have a whole new generation of followers. Do you have a favorite Descendant?   Stay tuned for more Descendant news coming your way on chipandco.com. Have you signed up for our newsletter yet?

Disney Purchases New Land Across from Disneyland

Disneyland Purchase

Could a recent purchase of nearly 15 acres of land by The Walt Disney Co. near its Anaheim Disneyland Resort mean an expansion for the parks? Property records show that in March a division of the company bought the Carousel Inn and Suites at 1530 S. Harbor Blvd. in Anaheim and last year, the company purchased two large office buildings at 1515 S. Manchester Ave. and 1585 S. Manchester Ave. in Anaheim.

All three parcels, a total of about 14.7 acres, are connected and sit across Harbor Boulevard from Disney California Adventure. Disney would not disclose how much it paid for the three parcels but property records say the total value of the land is about $60 million.

The Walt Disney Company confirmed the purchase, but said the land would not be used to expand rides or attractions, a company spokesperson said Wednesday. This by itself does not mean that the new land purchase couldn’t still be instrumental in bringing new rides and attractions to the parks.

According to the Anaheim Planning Department, the 158,708-square-foot building on the new land purchased will be used for office and warehouse support for Disney’s theme park and hotel operations, and will eventually be expanded for additional parking needs.

“With the resort’s continued growth resulting in additional cast members and a record number of guests, this property will help to support additional infrastructure needs, including warehouse and office space and parking,” Disney spokesperson Suzi Brown said.

All the talk about expansion is not just speculation. Here’s what we do know. In July, Disney officials committed to invest at least $1 billion in the park by 2024, under an agreement that ensures the Anaheim will not impose an entertainment tax on theme park tickets for the next 30 years. We also know that Disney Chairman and Chief Executive Robert Iger told shareholders in March that the company has plans for a park expansion. Also while speaking with Wall Street analysts, Iger revealed that Disney is currently working on “a fair amount of design and development (taking place by the company’s Imagineers) to greatly increase Star Wars presence in multiple locations around the world.”

“If we ever do an expansion, it would be within the footprint of the existing park,” Brown said. “This is not next to the park, it’s a short distance away.”

A statement which still may be a positive sign for expansion, because if Disneyland ends up moving its backstage offices to this area it may mean they could build new attractions in some of the areas in Disneyland resort which currently house their backstage offices. A solution that could keep expansion plans with in the “footprint.” One thing is for sure. Changes are coming and Disneyland plans to keep moving forward.

The Seattle “Up” House to be Saved from Demolition

Up house
Up house

Up house

This real life replica of the house from “Up” will not be demolished. This house is believed to the inspiration for the house in the movie. The house will now be used for affordable housing and it will be made to look like it did when the owner lived there. The land that the home sits on will be sold separately.

It is supposed to be moved from where it is now to Orcas Island within the next 2 to 3 months. They decided to move the house after plans to renovate it where it is now did not work out. Not to mention the potential buyers could not or did not want to bring the house up to code.

“Rather than being forlorn and vacant, it will be lived in and loved,” broker Paul Thomas of OPAL Community Land Trust told KOMO.

A little background on the home. It is a very small house at only 600 sq feet. It hit the big time in 2006 when the then-owner Edith Macefield supposedly turned down a $1 million offer for the home. She passed away in 2008. However, the home still stood in its original spot while new stores were built around it.

Of course some people are not happy about the house leaving its current spot. You can’t please everyone!

Disney’s Descendants DVD Review!

DescendantsDVD
DescendantsDVD

DescendantsDVD

Good is the new bad might as well be the mantra for the Disney Channel Original Movie The Descendants. We start with four kids of famous villains Mal daughter of Maleficent, Carlos son of Cruella, Evie daughter of the Evil Queen and Jay son of Jafar. These four kids are in for the ride of a lifetime as they navigate Auradon Prep a school where good reigns supreme and the students are sweet as apple pie!

One thing I loved about this movie was the notion that we choose our own fate and how people perceive us isn’t always who we are. We make our own destiny so to speak. I think it’s a great message for kids around the world to learn and understand, we’re all different some more than others but that makes the world what it is. Of course famed High School Musical director Kenny Ortega telling the story through his magical eyes helps the movie along as well.

The bonus features on this movie are relatively short and small but packed with awesomeness from #Mal which gives us a look into the lives of the characters after the movie through social media platforms and of course bloopers which are always my favorite part of bonus features and something I’m glad was included in this movie! (Kristen Chenoweth and Kathy Nijimy being adorable? Yes please!) You can also check out behind the scenes footage of dance rehearsals and find out some of the casts surprisingly limited original dance talents an how hard they worked to make the dance moves in the movie as amazing as they were! Plus get a look at Descendants: Wicked World a new short form animated series based off the movie! (Spoiler: It looks adorable!)

All in all I give this movie an A+ for effort creativity and message. I hope to see a Descendants 2 in the future!
