10 Things I Must Do EVERY Disney World Trip

autumns must do
autumns must do

  autumns must do

As a creature of habit and Disney attachment, I always find my list of “must do’s” growing every time I visit Disney! Everyone I know has a few things they have to do each and every time they visit no matter how long their stay. From shopping to attractions and snacks, we all have our favorites. I’m here today to share my Top 10 MUST DO list!

1. Stop off at the EarPort at Orlando International Airport. I probably wouldn’t drive to Disney even if I lived closer than my current New England hometown. Why? Because nothing gets me more excited to get to Disney than seeing some souvenirs on my way to my vacation! I also love to stop there on my way out. You never know what you forgot to buy unless you look, right?

2. Ride the “Mountains” in Magic Kingdom. Space, Splash and Big Thunder Mountain are everyone’s favorite mountain range, aren’t they? They were my first roller coasters and they will be my children’s first too! Big doses of fun without anything too extreme. Classic rides that I have to do each and every trip.

3. See Mickey. I don’t care how old you are or how many times you’ve met Mickey Mouse… I have to make time to visit or see him in person at least ONCE every time I visit! This can be accomplished at a hall, character meal or snap a selfie as he passes behind me in the Festival of Fantasy Parade, perhaps?

4. Catch a Fireworks show. The last time I visited I traveled with my 2 year old so I wasn’t able to see Wishes in Magic Kingdom because of the later hours. However, we made IllumiNations happen! Regardless of the show you see, Fantasmic for example, I simply must see a fireworks show.

5. Hit up Downtown Disney. So much to see, so little time. I give myself a few hours at least twice per visit. I can spend 3 hours in the World of Disney if I have the time to spare.

5 & 1/2. In addition to visiting Downtown I’ve added a “must eat” to my list. I have to eat at Wolfgang Puck Express. I had THE most amazing chicken meatball sandwich of my life.

6. Get my picture taken in front of the castle. Is there anyone who can go to Magic Kingdom and resist taking a picture in front of the castle? Because I don’t live nearby I don’t get to visit as often as I’d like. This makes for a really cool photo progression of myself over the years starting at age 9!

7. Explore my resort. I prefer to stay on property and be immersed in Disney for my stay. However, as a Travel Magician I enjoy hotels regardless. I can find places to explore pretty much anywhere. But nothing beats exploring a Disney resort. So much work and love is put into every detail.

8. Get a Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar. I would rather have this treat than pretty much anything else. It’s mobile and you can walk around and cool off with it. Also a fan of the Mickey Pants Sundae, of course. But that’s for a different time if I’m just needing a quick sweet before I hop on line for the Haunted Mansion.

9. Buy a shirt. Sounds simple and it really is. Depending on my budget and how long it will be until I go back will dictate how long it will take me to choose. If it will be a while I just send my husband along to the Lego store at DTD so I can really search! And who am I kidding? I can never get just one.

10. Take the monorail. Even if I’m not staying at a monorail resort I have to experience the ride. There’s nothing like seeing the castle from your monorail car from a distance. I also love to peek at the other resorts as we pass by or through, in the case of the Contemporary! I will find a way to ride the monorail even if I have nowhere to go! It’s just a must-do.

Thanks for letting me share my Top 10 with you! What are YOUR favorite things to do? Did I miss any that would top your list?

As a follow-up to Oh My Disney’s much-beloved DuckTales Theme Song with Real Ducks, and to kick off this year’s #DisneyThrowback Week, we thought it only fitting to remake the Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers theme song with you guessed it, real chipmunks.

Check it out:

One of the greatest gifts the late 80s and early 90s gave us was the TV show Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers and its incredibly catchy theme song. Nothing compared to watching two tiny chipmunk gumshoes solve crimes with all their friends.

Delivering heaps of nostalgia and joy, we’d love for you to share the video with your readers. And I apologize in advance that Ch-ch-ch-chip n Dale, Rescue Rangers,  will now be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

What do you think?

El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood will be hosting a special one night screening of “The Emperor’s New Groove” on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 7:00 pm.  Along with Oh My Disney, the theatre is celebrating the 15th Anniversary of the film and have planned a fun evening full of trivia, DIY activities, costumes and a chance to meet the executive producer, Don Hahn, director Mark Dindal, producer Randy Fullmer and screenwriter, David Reynolds.

The story of Emperor Kuzco (voiced by David Spade) who is turned into a llama by his evil advisor Yzma (voice of Eartha Kitt) and her sidekick, the lovable Kronk (Patrick Warburton) is one of my family favorites.  The adventure of Kuzko and lessons he learns along the way as well as his friendship with Pacha (John Goodman) make the film one of my favorites.

Join me in celebrating 15 years of Kuzco and the gang at El Capitan Theatre.   Tickets are only $10 for general admission and include popcorn and soda.  VIP tickets $20 include preferred seating, souvenir popcorn bucket and large soda.   Visit El Capitan website to purchase your tickets or call 1-800-DISNEY6.

If you got one of these app controlled BB-8 Star Wars robots at the “Force Friday” event, you may be able to get a part of your money back because you just might have paid too much.

They were sold Once Upon A Toy at Downtown Disney/Disney Springs for a whopping $199. Where the problem comes in is that other stores sold it $149 so Disney has decided to issue $50 refunds for those that paid $199 for the droid. Just contact the store to learn how to get your refund.

What You Need To Know About the Disney Cruise Line App

dclapp
dclapp

dclapp

When I went on our first cruise aboard the Disney Dream, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the day’s Navigator.  Being a little bit of a Disney research junkie, I knew that the Navigator would list all the events and activities that would take place on the ship that day, any special information for the day’s port of call, and any special offers.  I immediately highlighted all the events our family wanted to attend – it was like Disney on overdrive and it was an awesome way to kick start our vacation.

While the Navigator still exists today and is a quintessential part of every Disney cruise, Disney is also keeping up with the times by having the Disney Cruise Line app.  The app doesn’t really do much when you are not on the ship; it gives you a countdown for your upcoming cruise and some basic information, but that’s about it.  But once you are connected to the ship’s WiFi, the app undergoes a big magical Disney transformation and many cool features are unlocked!  So here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the Disney Cruise Line app once you are onboard:

You don’t have to worry about paying for WiFi to use the app onboard.  You can use the WiFi absolutely free to access the app.  (If you want to check your personal email or browse the web though, you do have to pony up some change.)

Just like the Navigator, the app is your key to all the activities (and corresponding locations and hours) on the ship.  If you wanted to belt out some Tina Turner tunes, for example, you could look up the time for the karaoke challenge.  If you wanted to see the Ant-Man movie and wondered where the Buena Vista Theater was located, you could also see that on the app.  And if you needed to get your hands on the latest Disney merch, you could also see the list of shops and hours of operation.

IMG_3781IMG_3785

The welcome page of the app has a wealth of information.  You can easily see deboarding and onboarding times for the day’s port of call.  Very important information, because as our cruise director Christian said, if you miss the boat, make sure you take out your camera and take a picture because seeing the Dream sail away into the sunset is a pretty sight to behold.  But scroll to the right and you’ll see other important information, like the featured entertainment for the evening or the featured drink of the day!  Who wants a Paradise Punch right about now?

IMG_3766

The menu on the left hand side easily gives you access to all the information that can be found on the app.  From this menu, you can use the onboard chat, view all the activities scheduled for the day, view dining menus, see where everything is located on the ship, take a look at the deck plans, review debarkation information, and so much more.

The onboard chat feature allows you to send a text message to anyone using the app on the ship.  When you log onto the app and use the chat feature for the first time, the app will ask you to register, and then you will receive a unique number.  You can give this number to others in your party, and they can use that to locate you and send you a text.  I can tell you that the onboard chat feature was very convenient and easy to use.  We hardly ever used the wave phones, and only brought it with us when we dropped off the kids at Oceaneer Club.

IMG_3764IMG_3763

The activities page lists all the activities happening on the ship for the ENTIRE cruise.  This is the app’s biggest advance over the Navigator.  The activities section gives you a chronological view of the day’s activities, but you can also pick a different day to see activities happening on future days of your cruise.  Let’s say you really wanted to participate in the Trivia Challenge – if you select the activity, you would see all the dates/times that same event is happening throughout the cruise.  This was enormously helpful, particularly with character meet-and-greets.  My girls missed seeing Tinkerbell on the second night of the cruise, but we found that she also had appearances at two other times.

You can mark your favorite activities, just like you would in the Navigator.  My kids love going to the Oceaneer Club, so we marked that as a favorite on the app.  The app allows you to only view activities that are marked as favorites, which makes is easier and/or faster to go through the list of activities.

IMG_3786IMG_3787

You can easily view the menus for all the dining rooms.  Who doesn’t want a preview of all those mouth-watering dishes?  I mean, I could easily go for that Black Bear’s Jumbo Crab Cake and the Treasure-of-the-Seas Grilled Shrimp and Seared Scallops.  (Excuse me for a second while I wipe the drool off my face.)

IMG_3768IMG_3769

You can also see the menu for room service!  If dining in the main dining room is not your thing, don’t fret!  The menu for room service is also at your fingertips.  I did not get a chance to order any food items from the room service menu during our last cruise, but I’ll share this little tip: I ordered  a carafe of coffee every night.  When I woke up first thing in the morning, I would make my coffee (still piping hot!) while enjoying the views outside my balcony.

IMG_3773IMG_3774

You can view deck plans on the app as well.  This feature was incredibly convenient when I was walking around late at night trying to deliver our fish extender gifts!

So as you can see, the Disney Cruise Line app is loaded with information, and lets you really plan your activities.  For my family, it only made our vacation more enjoyable and gave us more things to look forward to throughout the day.  Make sure you download the app before your next cruise too!

Dreamworks annd Fox 2000 Pictures has just released the new trailer for their upcoming spy thriller, “Bridge of Spies”

The film is written by Matt Charman andf the Coeh Brothers, Ethan and Joel and produced and directed by Stephen Spielberg, with co-producers Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger.

Bridge of Spies filmed against a backdrop of historical events, brings the story of Brooklyn attorney, James Donovan, who is thrown into the middle of the Cold War when the CIA sends him on the impossible assignment of  trying to negotiate the release of an american U-2 pilot.

Starring one of my favorites, Tom Hanks as James Donovan, Mark Rylance as KGB agent Rudolf Abel, Scott Shephard as CIA operative Hoffman, Amy Ryan as Donovan’s wife, and Alan Alda as Donovan’s law firm partner, ‘Bridge of Spies” has all the promise of an action packed, high suspence, thriller.

Coming to theatres, October 16, 2015,  “Bridge of Spies” is my favorite genre of movie, next to Disney of course!

Brad Bird Shares Updates On The Incredibles 2

Pixar fans are you ready for news about The Incredibles 2?  Writer/director Brad Bird has been hard at work on the script and shared “I have the story arc. I’m probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we’re already boarding parts of it,” he said.

Brad Bird has brought back many of the originals who worked on first film.   Unlike other Pixar sequels, “The Incredibles 2” is a bigger challenge in that there are huge numbers of Superhero movies that have come out and are scheduled to be released in the next few years.   This poses a concern  “… we’re trying to keep it focused in the area that our film was, which was a little bit more about characters and relationships and stuff like that, and see where that takes us.” commented Brad Bird.

While still no date has been given, Pixar fans can rest assured that Bird is moving forward and gathering all the necessary parts to bring “The Incredibles 2” to the screen.

Top 10 Reasons Disneyland is Better Than Disney World

Disneyland Resort
Disneyland Resort

Disneyland Resort

Now I know it’s difficult to compare Disneyland to Walt Disney World because they each have things that are unique to them and both are magical in their own right. If you’ve been to both parks, then you may already have an opinion on this subject, but if you’ve never been to Disneyland, hopefully this will help you get some insight on the parks. I’m going to do my best to tell you why Disneyland is better than Disney World, but be sure to visit both parks some time in your life so you can decide for yourself!

1. It’s doable in 1 day. There are 2 parks at the Disneyland Resort and you can get from one to the other just by walking! Not needing to wait in long lines for transportation to another park makes park hopping a piece of cake! You’ll be able to see a lot of both parks in just 1 day, whereas at Walt Disney World you’d need multiple days to see all 4 parks. The Disneyland Resort hotels and Downtown Disney are also within walking distance of the parks.

2. There are more rides than at Disney World. According to their websites, Disneyland has 88 attractions while Walt Disney World has 111 attractions (not including the water parks). But “attractions” include shows and other non-moving adventures. If you use the methodology of “if it moves, it’s a ride”, then the total number of rides at the 4 Walt Disney World parks combined is 46 compared to 52 rides at the 2 parks at the Disneyland Resort.

3. Disneyland still has classic rides. Pinocchio’s Daring Journey, Casey Jr. Circus Train, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, Snow White’s Scary Adventures, Storybook Land Canal Boats, and Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage are some of the classics that you’ll only find at Disneyland.

4. Disneyland’s version of certain rides is better! Splash Mountain, “it’s a small world”, and Pirate’s of the Caribbean are just a few of the rides that exist at both parks. The versions at Disneyland are so much better than the versions at Walt Disney World! Pirate’s of the Caribbean has 2 drops, a reverse waterfall and a more immersive experience than at WDW. “it’s a small world” has a prettier façade and the ride is more elaborate than the one in Florida. All 3 of the rides I’ve mentioned are longer than the other versions, and who doesn’t love a longer ride experience?

5. Toon Town. 2 words: Toon Town. Who doesn’t want to go visit Mickey and Minnie Mouse in their actual homes? Or play on Donald’s boat? Toon Town is a classic area of Disneyland and offers 2 rides-Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin & Gadget’s Go Coaster-and allows you to explore the homes of some of your favorite Disney characters!

6. Rides get new themes for Halloween. Jack Skellington and the rest of the cast from The Nightmare Before Christmas take over the Haunted Mansion at Halloween time and stay through New Years. Space Mountain also gets a new theme for the season and becomes Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy!

7. Cheaper tickets. Now, I know, there are lots of different options for tickets at both parks. But when you compare a 1-day park hopper adult ticket at each resort, Disneyland comes out cheaper! The cost of a 1-day park hopper ticket at Disneyland is $155.00 whereas the same ticket at Walt Disney World is $165.08.

8. California Adventure. California Adventure can only be found at the Disneyland Resort and it’s amazing! It has Cars Land which can’t be compared to any other Disney park land. Radiator Springs Racers is one of the best, most fun rides in the parks! California Screamin’ is the best roller coaster at any Disney park (it’s my favorite so I’m not biased at all!). Mickey’s fun wheel is one of only 2 “wonder wheel” Ferris wheels operating in the U.S. and gives you a great view of the park!

9. Nighttime shows. Disneyland has some spectacular nighttime shows! The Paint the Night Parade is a dazzling electric light parade that blows the Main Street Electrical Parade at Disney World out of the water! Fantasmic! is much better at Disneyland. It has high-definition projectors, a new Maleficent dragon, and fountains of water (like World of Color). World of Color at California Adventure is a stunning water projection show that uses nearly 1,200 fountains along with fire, fog, and laser effects. No other show compares! And I can’t forget the Disneyland Forever Fireworks. It’s an amazing street-to-sky spectacle. You’re literally surrounded by a mesmerizing mix of breathtaking pyrotechnics and jaw-dropping visual effects. There are 3 spots in Disneyland to view this show: Main St. U.S.A. (my personal favorite viewing spot), in front of “it’s a small world”, and in front of the Rivers of America.

10. It’s Walt’s park. Disneyland is the only park that Walt walked in when it was completed. He even has an apartment above the fire station where a lamp is always kept lit in remembrance of him. Disneyland has more history and a certain indescribable magic that can’t be found in any other Disney park.

Disneyland is a magical place and should be on everyone’s bucket list! If you haven’t had the opportunity to experience this resort, contact me to fix that problem today! I’ll be happy to help you plan an amazing Disneyland adventure.

Man Banned From Disney World Permanently for Meth Lab Joke

Trespass
Trespass

Trespass

A St. Augustine resident, David Swindler, and his family thought they were going to have a magical few days over at Disney World‘s Pop Century Resort on Labor Day weekend. Well, he got the surprise of his life when his room was raided, he got kicked out, and banned from Disney World property.

He was hoping to make his vacation a bit longer by staying longer at the resort. He was getting a little impatient with the service he as getting so he made a joke by saying he could build a meth lab in the time it was taking them to help him. Needless to say that joke was not very funny to that Cast Member. I assume he never thought a joke would get taken that far. He is banned forever but his wife and kids are not. He was told to file an appeal with Disney security to possibly have the ban lifted.

He still loves Disney and hopes that they lift the ban, especially since they found nothing in his room.

Do you think Disney took it too far?
