Moana Lead Role Goes to 14 year old Newcomer

Auli’i Cravalho

Walt Disney Animation Studios conducted a nationwide search to find the perfect voice for their new film “Moana.”

Joining Dwayne Johnson in the film will be Native Hawaiian newcomer Auli’i Cravalho. At 14 years old, Auli’I will be the voice behind a fearless teen named Moana who with the help of demi-god Maui (Johnson) sets out on a daring mission of discovery and to prove herself as master wayfinder.

Legend has it that 3,000 years ago, the greatest sailers voyaged across the South Pacific discovering the many islands of Oceania.  The voyages stopped for a millennium and to this day we do not know why.   The story of Moana brings us a young girl setting off on an daring mission to prove herself worthy as master wayfinder.   Along the way, Moana meets the once mighty demi-god, Maui and together they travel the open seas, fighting creatures, and going against unbeatable odds.

Auli’I was chosen from hundreds of talented Pacific Islanders trying out for the lead role. A sophomore in high school, Cravalho “did not think I had a chance since in my mind performing was dancing around the house and singing at the top of ny lungs”, like when she was a young child.  Auli’I said ”I never imagined being in a Disney movie, being Moana — representing my culture in that way.”

The film’s Hawai’i casting director already had her in mind, remembering her from a previous audition as part of an a cappella group.  Tracking down Cravalho and her mom, she was invited to audition and the rest as they say is history!

Athough a raw talent, her first audition was fantastic according to producer Osnat Shurer.   She was one of a small group of girls brought back for a second audition and subsequent audition at the studios in Burbank.

“Auli’i demonstrated a certain fearlessness in her auditions and call-backs,” said director John Musker. “She has a playful, mischievous wit. She can project vulnerability, she doesn’t seem intimidated at all by the challenges ahead, and her Polynesian background has helped shape her connection to family, hard work and music. These are all qualities she shares with Moana.”

“Moana is a vibrant, tenacious 16-year-old growing up on an island where voyaging is forbidden,” added director Ron Clements. “But Moana has been drawn to the ocean since she can remember and is desperate to find out what’s beyond the confines of her island.”

Cravalho has already started recording Moana which will be in theatres, Nov 23, 2016.

I’m excited to see this new movie from Walt Disney Studios and meet Moana. Enjoy the video below and follow us on www.chipandco.com for updates and news about your favorite Disney entertainment.

Seaworld’s Halloween Spooktacular Is Spooky Cool!

Halloween spooktacular SeaWorld

Halloween meets the sea during weekends in October at SeaWorld Orlando’s Halloween Spooktacular!

I was recently invited to the Seaworld Halloween Spooktacular and I have to say this event was such fun for me and my family to attend. The event was filled with activities and things to do for all ages. From cookie making (my favorite) to cute stuffed animals and of course trick or treating! Everyone can find something to love and enjoy the whole park alongside the Halloween festivities.
One of my favorite things I got to do was make my own cookie! This is actually something I remember doing at the event when I went many years ago and it brought me back to my childhood. At the time I did it, it was five dollars and I was delighted to see that in nine years the price had only gone up two dollars and the product had only gotten better! The adorable Shamu bucket comes with all the toppings and icing you could want to make the perfect cookie! I saw so many people enjoying the cookie making and I know the Chip and Co readers would love it as well!

Spooktacular Highlights Include:

  • Waves of Trick-or-Treat Fun – Costumed youngsters can trick-or-treat for ghoulish goodies. Each sea-themed, trick-or-treat station features an assortment of candy favorites including Tootsie Roll®, Jelly Beans®, Airheads®, just to name a few.
  • Penelope’s Party Zone – This dynamic “underwater” environment comes to life each weekend with a live DJ, a variety of craft opportunities, bubbles floating overhead and colorful sea-themed characters. The zone is located on SeaWorld’s Bayside Pathway.
  • Returning Fan Favorite: Sesame Street’s Countdown to Halloween – Celebrate a Spooktacular Halloween at SeaWorld with The Count, Elmo, Abby, and the rest of everyone’s Sesame Street friends! The Count is feeling lonely this Halloween, and it’s up to you and the loveable monsters from Sesame Street to get him into the Halloween spirit. Batty bats and spooky skeletons join the fun in a song filled stage show that invites you and your family to dance, play, and sing along.
  • Spooktacular Dance Party – Children join Princess Penelope and her under-the-sea friends for a Spooktacular Dance Party where they can participate in line-dancing favorites as clouds of bubbles fill the evening air. The party will kick off at the Village Square in the front of the park every event night one hour before park closing.

Spectacular Spooky Add-Ons:

  • Dine With Shamu® Halloween Spooktacular Brunch – Guests can celebrate with an immersive and memorable brunch experience at Dine With Shamu®. They will enjoy seasonal items and reserved tables that bring them up close to majestic killer whales. There also are some Halloween surprises including a family photo in a decorative frame and a free cookie decorating kit. Prices begin at $28 plus tax for adults and $16 plus tax for kids.
  • Sweet Treat Decorating – Kids and parents alike can have a “splash” decorating their own sweet treats at the cookie decorating stations. The kits include a cookie, frosting and toppings and are available for $7.

SeaWorld’s Halloween Spooktacular® takes place from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. weekends, October 3-31. Like all special events at SeaWorld, Halloween Spooktacular is included with park admission.

Disney Might be Considering Demand Based Pricing

WDW

Hey kiddies I am back with some juicy Disney Gossip! There has been a lot of buzz going on lately about the raise in prices for Disney World Annual Passes, parking, and more. So, what might we suspect might be next is a raise in regular ticket prices..

I have a friend of a friend who had a little Mouse tell them that Disney might soon be introducing a demand based pricing system on their theme park tickets. This means that tickets would cost less on slow days and come with more benefits and cost more on busy days but come with more restrictions. What shocks me is no matter how much Disney raises prices more and more people keep going. It seems like the more the prices go up the more people go. Crazy right?

Right now Disney is surveying visitors to gauge their reactions to different variable pricing options. I know what I would tell them, how about you?

Always remember nothing is official until the mouse says so!

What do you think of the upcoming changes in prices? Let me know in the comment box below.

This all the Disney gossip I have for now. For my past gossip articles be sure to check them outhere. Got any good gossip/rumors please email me at anonymouse@chipandco.com or on my Facebook page

If you are a chocolate lover, like me, then you know the unmistakable aroma of rich chocolate. It will draw you into The Ganachery, a new chocolate shop set to open in late 2015 at Disney Springs at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Located in The Landing, The Ganachery will specialize in custom-blended chocolates with the finest beans. Hand-crafted onstage by a chocolatier, the shop will feature fresh batches daily, including dark (65 percent custom blend), hazelnut, chipotle and a custom blend flavored with the world’s finest spices.

Beautiful custom packaging will make elegant take-home gifts. And there may even be some chocolate bars inspired by Disney characters.

I can’t wait for this! How about you?

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

Review – Aladdin on Blu-Ray Combo Pack

2015 06 01 18 28 03 Aladdin Blu ray Diamond Edition
2015 06 01 18 28 03 Aladdin Blu ray Diamond Edition

Aladdin Diamond Edition

Soar away on a magic carpet ride of nonstop laughs and thrills in one of the most spectacular adventures on all time! Now meticulously restored and enhanced – experience the wonders of “Aladdin” like never before, from the Academy Award winning music (Best Music, Original Song for “A Whole New World” and Best Music, Original Score, 1993) to the unforgettable moments of sidesplitting comedy and soaring adventure.

In the heat of an enchanted city, a commoner named Aladdin and his mischievous monkey Abu battle to save the free-spirited Princess Jasmine from the schemes of the evil sorcerer Jafar. Aladdin’s whole life changes with one rub of a magic lamp as a fun-loving, shape-shifting Genie appears and grants him three wishes, setting him on an incredible journey of discovery.

Enjoy this magic carpet ride of non-stop comedy on Blu-ray Combo Pack on October 13th.

I was singing at top volume to all my favorite songs from the film including A Whole New World, One Jump, and You Ain’t Never Had a Friend Like Me. Not to mention, I realized I can still quote the film word for word. The vivid and rich colors of Agrabah really come to live on the blu-ray making this Disney masterpiece even more enchanting.

This Blu-ray Combo Pack is full of amazing bonus features.

The Genie Outtakes: This hilarious deleted scenes style feature provides a glimpse into the comedic genius of Robin Williams, voice of Genie. During his recording sessions William, adlibbed, improvised, and had fun creating his own dialogue. The Disney animators have put together some classic rough animations to go along with some of these very funny outtakes.
Aladdin: Creating the Broadway Magic: This was my favorite bonus feature! Composer Alan Menken, along with many of the important people for bringing Aladdin to the stage, take you on a behind the curtain look at what it was like to create Aladdin for a live audience. I really enjoyed the candid interviews with the cast and crew as they discussed their struggles and triumphs.
Unboxing Aladdin: Hosted by Disney Channel’s Joey Bragg, this features is aimed at the pre-teen crowd and offers some interesting information about hidden magic throughout the movie. For example, did you know that in Aladdin you can spot Mickey ears, The Beast, and Sebastian?
Genie 101: Hosted by Scott Weigner, the voice of Aladdin, this feature takes a closer look at the many famous references that are made by Genie. The next time you watch the film, see if you can spot famous “cameos” from Robert DeNiro, Jack Nicholson, Rodney Dangerfield and many more.
Disney Song Selection: This one is just what it sounds like; sing along to all your favorite musical numbers!
• So much more!: The combo pack also features as section called “Classic Bonus” that holds deleted scenese, deleted songs, a tour through the genie’s lamp, and more.

If you want to check out any of these bonus features and own one of the most loved Disney animated films, make sure you pick up a copy of Aladdin on Blu-ray combo pack October 13th.
