Top 5 Walt Disney World Character Dining Spots

Character Dining is a vital part of your Walt Disney World experience! Once your vacation is booked, your first countdown is 180 days to make those beloved dining reservations. One of the things that makes Disney World magical is the endless options of restaurants, including Character Dining! You can sit down, relax and enjoy a meal while some of your favorite characters stop by, have some fun, give some autographs and of course strike a pose. What’s not to love? You have to take some time out of your day to eat, so take some time out of standing in line to meet some characters while you’re at it! Obviously the cuisine, location and ambience might influence what Character Dining you select. So here is my Top 5 Walt Disney World Character Dining Spots.

5. O’hana (Polynesian Village Resort) – You’ll be whisked into a Hawaiian atmosphere and get to enjoy an “All-You-Care-To-Enjoy” Breakfast with your cousins. Wait, What? Cousins? Well, I mean after all ‘Ohana means family. Family means no one is left behind – or forgotten.” So there, you are a ‘cousin’. Food is good and plentiful with a South Pacific twist. Daughters love the Mickey Waffles. My favorite was the P.O.G. – Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava Juice. Hawaiian Style Mickey, Pluto, Lilo and Stitch will make there rounds for an unforgettable interaction.

4. Crystal Palace (Magic Kingdom) – You can score big with this one. While making Breakfast reservations, if yours happens to be right at-or before- park opening, you will get to go into the park before Rope Drop! Frolic in front of the castle, march down Main Street but whatever you do take advantage of those photo opportunities! Once you get venture into the whimsical world of Hundred Acre Wood for their “Friendship Day Celebration” You get to enjoy their Breakfast Buffet. Which has food, on top of food, on top of more food. Pooh’s corner, fruit, pastries, omelet station, meats, potatoes and more. Wear pants with an elastic waist on this day. While you are stuffing your face, friendly faces come by your table including Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet and the Pooh bear himself! The kids can even join them in a little parade around the Crystal Palace, so parents get a few minutes for good photo ops, or to get a few bites in peace. A pretty good way to start your day with your favorite hunny lovin’ friend you grew up with!

3. Mickeys Backyard BBQ (Fort Wilderness) – Yes! Who doesn’t want to grub on some down home country cookin’! Enjoy the all-you-care-to-enjoy BBQ feast, rope tricks and boot, scoot n boogie around the dance floor to a live western band with your favorite friends! Minnie, Mickey, Goofy and Chip n Dale join in on this finger lickin’ boot stompin’ good time. After shuffling around the dance floor you may become parched, so quench your thirst with lemonade, fruit punch and soft drinks, plus complimentary wine and beer for Guests 21 years of age and up (proper ID required). Whatttt! Oh but that’s not the best part.. As if this wasn’t already well worth it, finish it off with a Mickey’s Ice Cream Bar. That’s right! I reckon that sounds like a good evening for kids and adults alike!

2. Cinderella’s Royal Table (Magic Kingdom) – All those years you grew up staring in awe at Cinderella’s castle. Dreaming of one day stepping inside, well that dream can become reality! (Maybe a stop at BBB or Pirates League before dining) Join Cinderella and her friends in the heart of Magic Kingdom at the Iconic Castle. A royal experience your little prince or princess will be sure to love. Since it’s a character dining all day, if you choose breakfast you could score with frolicking and marching around before the crowd with early reservations. Breakfast is an “all-you-care-to-eat”, lunch and dinner is menu style. Cinderella will be awaiting your arrival and treat you like royalty for a photo op. Other princesses will be inside roaming the castle and greeting you during your meal. I will say that I wasn’t that impressed with the food, but for this, You are paying for the experience. A well worth it experience, at least once! You will get to meet a few princesses while dining inside the Castle while your child will be in shock and awe! If you’re planning on celebrating or popping any certain questions, they have packages to help you as well! (CRT is a pretty tough reservation to get, so if you can’t get it, but your DA absolutely must dine with royalty or their life is ruined forever, try Akershus at Epcot! Pretty much the same scenario but they have a princess parade where the little ones can join in on a parade. One of my daughters favorite memories.)

1. 1900 Park Fare (Grand Floridian) – The winner here is Cinderella’s Happily Ever After Dinner. At first I only made the reservations just to go to the Grand Floridian Resort since I don’t know if I’ll ever get to sleep there. I left with it being my favorite Character Dining. You will have a ball with Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drizella at this delicious buffet, it’s not the biggest, but rather good and includes some sushi. The interactions here are one of the best! The sisters and Lady Tremaine on the hunt to find their prince, while not keeping quiet about their feelings towards Cinderella’s happily ever after, Prince Charming and Cinderella will enjoy a dance and invite others to partake. Oh and don’t ask how Anastasia’s singing lessons are coming along! This is a great way to have a great dinner and check off some great character meets without waiting in lines at the parks!

Feeling a little curious? I also enjoy breakfast here, so I’m going to cheat and add the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast is also a delightful breakfast. With these special variety of characters, you’d be mad not to go! Alice, Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins, Tigger and Pooh!

*All characters are always subject to change, so please keep that in mind.

How did my top 5 compare to yours? Do you have the same list or is there another Must do to add?

Disney Joins Forces with a Bionics Firm to Change the Lives of Some Children

Bionic arms
Bionic arms

Bionic arms

What are you looking at is Disney Bionic prosthetic arms for children. These are so cool. Best of all they are low-cost. The Star Wars one has a lightsabre hand and when you turn it on the LED’s light up and you hear the electronic buzz that Star Wars fans know and love. That is not it, there is button that allows the child to change the color of the lights.  “We’ve already had several requests for the lightsabre from people who aren’t kids,” said Joel Gibbard, 25. He is the British robotic engineer that has spent the past few months developing these amazing prosthetics.

There is more than just Star Wars. There is also Iron man and Frozen to choose from. They do look like an expensive toy but they are not. They are real prosthetic devices that are designed to transform little lives, and look pretty cool in the process. These come from a Bristol-based company called Open Bionics. So instead of kids being asked “how did you lose your hand”, now people will ask about their cool arm and they can show them all it can do. I am sure that will help these children out immensely.

Bionic arms 1 Bionics

They are not just a cool new prosthetic device they are also functional. Example: The led lights on the Iron Man one are used to display the muscle signals that the child is sending to the device. To a kid it is just a cool light show, but it means more than that. There is also vibration feature that will vibrate if the child fires a rocket, but this feature also send reports back to the parents of how strong the child’s grip is.

Open Bionics was given $120,000 and access to designers and techs that worked on all 3 of these movies. Disney also gave royalty-free licences which means that the price can stay down and more kids can benefit from these. The cost is expected to be less than $500.00. They should be on sale before the end on next year.

How amazing is this? Gotta love that Disney Magic!

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

Disney Cracks Down on More Dining Reservation Services

Trattoria 9

Be Our Guest 2 (2)

Disney has been coming down hard on these dining reservation assistance sites. They are being shut down one by one. Disney Dining Scout is one of the last ones to recently get shut down. Other companies have had issues with similar sites. QVC, Ticketmaster, Facebook, Craigslist and eBay have all had their share of issues with what they call “web scraping”.

Disney Dining Scout was not the only one. There have been quite a few others popping up recently. What these sites do is they charge customers a small fee for them to conduct constant computerized scans of Disney Dining reservations and those hard to get reservations. Some sites would then book the reservation and sell them. These sites have attracted a lot of fans and loyal users as well as Travel Agents, no need to worry World of Magic Travel Services has not and will not utilize these sites.

Some of the other sites that have been shut down are, DisDining Agent, Disney Dining Buddy, WDWTableFinder, and WDW Tools.

One of the owners of these sites offered to work with Disney through a licensing agreement and Disney declined.

Get an Early Sneak Peek at the Final Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

While most of you may be aware that this is the last year to see the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights, you may be happy to hear that there will be a sneak peek starting November 1st at Hollywood Studios for Annual Passholders.  While the Spectacle is set to start on November 6th, 2015 and run through January 3, 2016, the word on the street is that AP holders will be able to see the lights earlier. The lights were already going up on the Streets of America a few weeks ago and hopefully the show will start early for those guests visiting November 1-November 5.

Disney announced last month that after 20 years, the Spectacle would be coming to an end. Although there have been rumors that the show will be moved to another location, Disney has not released any confirmation of that possibility. I know I am not the only one who is hoping to see the lights again after this year!

If you are thinking of a trip to WDW, now is the time! I can help you plan a visit to coincide with the dates of this amazing spectacle. It is truly something not to be missed. I will be there in November so that my family can see it one last time. Hopefully the early sneak peek will allow for more visitors to plan some time to see it!

Walt Disney Studios Global Box Office Numbers Reach Over $4 Billion

Walt Disney Pictures Logo
Walt Disney Pictures Logo

Walt-Disney-Pictures-Logo

$4 Billion in Global Box Office Sales is no small feat, but for Walt Disney Studios, the number has not only been achieved but surpassed in 2015.

The third consecutive year the studio exceeds the $4 billion mark, means another record breaking year.  “With an incredible pipeline of both original stories and anticipated sequels” Walt Disney Pictures is “set to deliver some fantastic movies well into the future” according to Dave Hollis, Disney’s Head of Distribution.

The successs of “Inside Out” (Pixar) had sales of over $800 million world wide and the spot  of the No. 3 film domestically. Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” at $458.9 at home and $968 million internationally along with Cinderella at $201.1 million locally and $341.1 million internationally added to the achievements and goals of the studio.

With the upcoming release of “Star Wars” coming December 18th and ranked the most anticipated movie of 2015 and upcoming sequels – Cars 3 (June 2017), Toy Story 4 (June 2018) and The Incredibles 2 (June 2019) as well as Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 2018) and Captain Marvel (March 2019), Walt Disney Pictures has the potential to continue its record breaking streak.

Walt Disney Studios Adds Cruella To List Of Live Action Movies

Cruella De Vil 101 Dalmatians
Cruella De Vil 101 Dalmatians

Cruella-De-Vil-101-Dalmatians

Walt Disney Studios has brought on Screenwriter Kelly Marcel to write the live-action film, Disney’s Cruella, based on our favorite villainess Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians.

Marcel, who most recently adapted Fifty Shades of Grey and brought us Saving Mr. Banks is teaming with Steve Zissis on the story.

With four untitled live – action film dates of upcoming films as well as The Jungle Book (April 2016), Alice through the Looking Glass (May 2016) and Beauty and the Beast (March 2017) coming our way, the studios are working nonstop on live action film projects.

News that the studio is fast-tracking Cruella makes this Entertainment Writer very excited, since Cruella is at the top of my list of favorite villains.  The character of Cruella DeVil first appeared in the 1956 novel written by Dodie Smith “The One Hundred and One Dalmations”, but became the villain we know today in the 1961 Disney movie. Glenn Close brought Cruella to life in the 1996 live action film of the same title and the 2000 sequel 102 Dalmations.

Cruella is just the tip of the iceberg in the production of live action films Disney has in various stages of production.   Along with the above mentioned titles, we can also look forward to Tink, Dumbo, The Jungle Book, Mulan, Pete’s Dragon and a Maleficent sequel.  Although no announcement has been made as to titles, Disney also released the following four dates –  Dec. 22, 2017; Nov. 2, 2018; March 29, 2019; and Nov. 18, 2019 to look forward to.   Looks like we are in for years of live action films from our favorite animated classics.   I can’t wait!

Loretta Garcia, Entertainment Writer for chipandco.com invites you to meet me at the movies!
