Universal Orlando Unleashes First Look at Terrifying Monsters in Epic Universe’s ‘Monsters Unchained’
Get ready to face your fears! Universal Orlando Resort has unveiled a chilling first look at the terrifying Universal Monsters set to inhabit the upcoming “Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment” attraction at Epic Universe. This groundbreaking dark ride, opening in 2025, will feature 14 of the most ambitious and lifelike animated figures ever created, each depicting a legendary monster ready to prey on unsuspecting guests.
“Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment” will take guests deep into the shadowy catacombs of Frankenstein Manor, where Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, the great-great-granddaughter of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, conducts her twisted experiments. Guests are invited to witness a demonstration of her ability to control these monstrous creations, but chaos erupts as a horde of enraged creatures breaks free. The ensuing terrifying ride plunges guests into darkness as they desperately try to evade the clutches of Dracula, The Wolf Man, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and more.
Meet the Monsters
Frankenstein’s Monster: Towering at nine feet and weighing over 800 pounds, Frankenstein’s Monster is a terrifying sight to behold. Guests will first encounter this imposing figure in the attraction queue, where he’ll be seen walking within Dr. Frankenstein’s lab during the preshow.
Dracula: This iconic vampire, the most dangerous monster Dr. Frankenstein attempts to control, will appear at various points throughout the attraction, leading the horde of escaped creatures.
The Wolf Man: With razor-sharp teeth and claws, the fearsome Wolf Man is among the unleashed monsters that guests must evade in the depths of the manor.
The Creature from the Black Lagoon: Emerging from the murky depths, the amphibious Gill-man joins the monstrous rampage, adding to the terror.
Even those who aren’t quite ready to brave “Monsters Unchained” can still encounter these legendary creatures in the Dark Universe land. Meet-and-greets and photo opportunities will be available with iconic monsters like Frankenstein’s Monster and the Bride of Frankenstein. Guests can also expect to encounter other unusual inhabitants of this eerie village, including Dr. Frankenstein’s assistant Ygor, The Invisible Man, an eccentric monster hunter, and a spooky musician.

If you’re strolling through Disney Springs and notice a bit of quiet where Vivoli Il Gelato usually bustles, don’t worry—the beloved Italian gelateria is temporarily closing its main store for an exciting renovation. Fans won’t have to miss out on their favorite treats, though; Vivoli is keeping the gelato flowing with carts stationed near the store entrance and by the LEGO Store. In a recent social media announcement, Vivoli teased, “Exciting things are on their way!!”
A staple at Disney Springs and one of the oldest gelaterías in Florence, Italy, Vivoli has delighted guests with handcrafted flavors since 1930. Over the years, Vivoli’s family-run tradition has brought us a delicious menu of gelato, sorbetto, sundaes, shakes, and floats made from seasonal ingredients and bursting with Italian authenticity. We all know trick-or-treating – the classic Halloween tradition where kids go door-to-door collecting candy. But have you heard of reverse trick-or-treating? This delightful twist on Halloween isn’t about gathering sweets; it’s about delivering treats to those who could use a little extra Halloween fun. This year, Mickey and Minnie took part in this unique activity to bring happiness to kids in the hospital.
Disney has worked with Starlight Children’s Foundation for over 20 years to bring happiness to hospitals throughout the United States, as well as deliveries of themed hospital wear, care packages, and more.
“We are so grateful to collaborate with Disney to help hospitalized kids and their families celebrate the Halloween season. Our collaboration allows us to transform the hospital experience for kids across the country through play-centered programs that provide entertainment and positive distraction, bringing smiles to kids when they need it most,” said Adam Garone, CEO of Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Delivering Costumes and Halloween Happiness
The spirit of giving was taken to the next level with unforgettable Halloween visits at children’s hospitals across the country. Thanks to Disney VoluntEARS and Ambassadors, patients received Disney toys, plush, books and costumes based on their favorite stories.
These magical costume deliveries wouldn’t have been possible without support from Disney’s guests across the country. Earlier this year, Disney kicked off an initiative to donate a Halloween costume to Starlight Children’s Foundation for each one purchased on DisneyStore.com. These purchases unlocked the maximum donation from Disney of 20,000 Halloween costumes to Starlight.
And we can’t forget about the extraordinary adaptive costumes and wheelchair wraps that ensured everyone could be part of these special moments. The adaptive costumes are designed to be as magical as they are functional, with features like self-stick fabric closures, flap openings on the front for easy tube access and longer lengths to accommodate seated guests. Wheelchair wraps are built with accessibility, durability and ease of use in mind.
Mickey and Minnie Show Off Their “Halloween Best”
Of course, Halloween isn’t complete without our favorite duo! Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, dressed to impress in their Halloween outfits, made special appearances at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Tampa and Children’s Hospital of Orange County in California. With “ear-to-ear” smiles, they met patients in the lobby and visited kids who were unable to leave their rooms.
These efforts are part of Disney and Starlight Children’s Foundation’s 20-year collaboration and Disney’s $100 million commitment to help reimagine the patient experience in children’s hospitals around the world.
Disney World Files Permit for Tropical Americas Expansion at Animal Kingdom
Disney has taken the first step in its ambitious Tropical Americas expansion at Animal Kingdom by filing a permit for Project Ro with the South Florida Water Management District. This project will overhaul the existing Dinoland U.S.A. themed land.
The permit includes a comprehensive site demolition plan that details the removal of Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama. This beloved area, featuring carnival-style games, the iconic TriceraTop Spin ride, and the Dinosaur Treasures gift shop, will make way for the initial phase of Tropical Americas. This exciting expansion will bring new themed lands inspired by the diverse cultures and breathtaking landscapes of Central and South America.
Project Ro marks a significant step towards the launch of Tropical Americas, which will feature an “Encanto”-themed attraction and a brand-new Indiana Jones adventure. The latter will take guests on an archaeological expedition through a Maya temple, guided by Indiana Jones himself. The permit also addresses environmental concerns and aligns with Disney’s conservation efforts.
TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures will close on January 12, 2025. However, DINOSAUR, The Boneyard, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites will remain open until later in 2025.

Magic Kingdom will be open from 9 a.m. to midnight on December 30th and 31st, with early entry starting at 8:30 a.m. The “Fantasy in the Sky” fireworks show will take place twice each night, at 6:30 p.m. and 11:50 p.m.
EPCOT will be open from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on December 30th, but will stay open until 1 a.m. on New Year’s Eve. Both days will offer early entry at 8:30 a.m. “Luminous: The Symphony of Us” will be performed on December 31st at 6:30 p.m., followed by “Cheers to the New Year: A Sparkling Celebration” at 11:54 p.m.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on December 30th and from 9 a.m. to midnight on December 31st, with early entry starting at 8:30 a.m. While there won’t be a dedicated New Year’s Eve fireworks show, the extended hours offer more time to enjoy the park’s attractions.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both December 30th and 31st and will not have any special New Year’s Eve events.
These operating hours are currently listed in the My Disney Experience app but have not yet been added to the Walt Disney World website calendar. Please note that these hours are subject to change.
