Is Kurt Russell Joining Guardians of the Galaxy 2?

One of my favorite Disney Actors, Kurt Russell has confirmed he was contacted to be a part of the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 film.   However, I can’t get too excited yet, because Russell has not seen the first film and as a professional wants to first read the script and see the first film before fully committing to the part.

Now most of the actors would say yes and not share too much about the lack of knowledge of the films, but not Russell.  As a true professional, he hesitated and was quoted as saying ” ‘Thank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I can’t bring anything for you [right now].

While I’m sure once Kurt Russell enjoys Guardians of the Galaxy, he will be running to call James Gunn and sign the contract, but I have to respect his honesty and integrity in not rushing into a project he is unfamiliar with.

Your favorite, Entertainment Reporter for www.chipandco.com would love to hear from fans.   What is your opinion on this matter?  Do you respect his honesty or do you think he should join the cast and then get caught up on the film?

Orange County deputies are on the scene investigating an incident in Disney Springs. Reports of gun shots started coming in on Twitter about 30 minutes ago.

According to the Orange County Sheriff’s office there were no shots fired just a fist fight.

I am glad everyone is safe and nobody was injured. Order has been restored and things seem to be settling down again.

Top 10 Things to do at Disneyland when it’s Super Crowded

DLR Crowds
DLR Crowds

DLR Crowds

Disneyland is the “Happiest Place on Earth” so naturally lots of people want to visit. The parks can hold thousands of people and there can be times when lines are just too long for you to want to wait in. I’ve put together my top 10 things to do at the Disneyland Resort when it’s super crowded.

1. Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough

Explore the winding passageways of Sleeping Beauty Castle and view scenes from the beloved Disney classic Sleeping Beauty. The scenes are depicted in 3-D displays and even feature interactive moments. This is a great attraction to do when it’s crowded or when it’s hot because there is no waiting in line and it’s indoors! If you’re unable to handle stairs, ask a cast member about the high-definition video version of the walkthrough.

2. Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition

I’ve never seen a line a the Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition. There’s a small fee to play but it’s a lot of fun to test your shootin’ skills. There are nearly 100 targets and when you hit one you’re rewarded with entertaining lights, sounds and animations.

cinema

3. Main Street Cinema

This is an attraction that I just recently took the time to explore. Six classic films play continuously throughout the day. There’s hardly ever any one inside which makes this a great place to get away from the crowds.

4. Disney Animation Building

There are multiple things you can do in the Animation Building that have little to no wait time. You can relax in the main lobby and watch still images and video clips that illustrate the Disney-Pixar creative process. If you want a fun and interactive show you can head over to Turtle Talk with Crush. Enjoy the opportunity to draw your own Disney character sketch at the Animation Academy. Or go in to the Sorcerer’s Workshop where you can create simple animation in the Magic Mirror Realm, uncover your “inner Disney self” in The Beast’s Library, and lend your voice to a classic Disney character in Ursula’s Grotto.

5. Redwood Creek Challenge Trail

There is so much to do at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail and with no lines to wait in! Climb up a rock climb, slide down a natural rock slide, explore lookout towers, or follow clues, collect badges and become a Wilderness Explorer. There’s also a spirit cave where you can discover your spirit animal. This is also a great place to let your kids get some energy out.

6. Hidden Mickeys

A Hidden Mickey is a representation of Mickey Mouse that has been subtly inserted into the design of a ride, building, attraction or other location. Searching for Hidden Mickeys throughout the parks has become very popular and is something everyone can do at any time. So if the lines are too long for your liking, take a stroll around the park and see how many Mickeys you can find!

IMG_1133

7. Watch a Show

There are a couple of shows that you won’t have to wait in line for. One is Mickey and the Magical Map at Disneyland. The other is It’s Tough to be a Bug at Disney’s California Adventure. Mickey and the Magical Map is a live musical show that features appearances by some of your favorite Disney characters. I just recently saw this show for the first time and it was very entertaining and is a great show for all ages. It’s Tough to be a Bug is a 3-D film and live show where you find out what it’s like to be a bug. There are dazzling 3-D movie effects and in-theater 4-D surprises. This is a favorite of mine but it can be scary for younger kids.

photo op

8. Photo Ops

When lines are super long, take the opportunity to get some fun pictures! Right now at the Disneyland Resort there are areas to take special photos. Get a shot of you “climbing” the Matterhorn, as a Haunted Mansion bust, or “riding” California Screamin’. Another tip for taking photos-go to the popular spots (in front of the castle/Mickey Mouse flower bed/Partners statue) in the afternoon rather than the morning when everyone else is taking pictures there.

jedi training

9. Jedi Training Academy

Even if you don’t have a 4-12 year old with you, the Jedi Training Academy is so entertaining to watch! It’s now called ‘Jedi Training-Trials of the Temple’ during Season of the Force. The Jedi in charge of training the younglings is very witty and the villains love to interact with the audience. (We watched Darth Maul knock over a guest’s drink once.) It’s a fun show and you can even enjoy a burger from the Galactic Grill while you watch!

toontown

10. Toon Town

Toon Town has multiple line-free attractions. You can explore Goofy’s house and garden, Donald’s boat, and Chip & Dale’s treehouse. Mickey and Minnie’s houses are also there for your enjoyment but the lines to see those characters go through their homes so you’ll encounter more guests there. Tip-if you want to see Mickey Mouse at his home in Toon Town, go just before closing. There will be fewer people there. But remember, Toon Town closes earlier than the rest of the park.

What do you like to do when the parks are super crowded? Let me know in the comments!

Even when it’s crowded, the Disneyland Resort is magical and has so much to offer. Email me today to start planning your next Disney vacation! My services are free and I will work to find the best deal for you and your family.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Press Conference – Part 2

Star wars press conferernce

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Press Event held in a secret location in Los Angeles, provided an incredible opportunity to enjoy an array of Star Wars activities, character meets and delicious food and desserts.  But the moment we were all waiting for was just minutes away.   Meeting the stars of Star Wars:  The Force Awakens.   Taking our seats in a standing room only area, we finally heard our host moderator, Mindy Kaling introduce the first group which included:

  • Carrie Fisher (“Leia”)
  • JJ Abrams (Director/Producer)
  • Daisy Ridley (“Rey”)
  • Adam Driver (“Kylo Ren”)
  • Lupita Nyong’o (“Maz Kanata”)
  • Lawrence Kasdan (Screenplay By)

After a very loud and warm welcome from the crowd the Q and A began with Mindy asking J.J. Abrams, if he was already so “rich” what was the reason for taking on the project?   Abrams responded that he felt “incredibly lucky” to be asked to be a part of the project and did not consider it a job at all.  “I do honestly feel honored to be a part of this group.”

Carrie Fisher was up next with the question from Mindy asking if she felt that Princess Leia had the same good sense of humor that Carrie had?  Ms. Fisher’s response was hilarious in that she commented about the hairpieces and the “baboon” type hairstyle saying Princess Leia had to have a sense of humor to sport that look.

Adam Driver was up next when Mindy asked about his character, Kylo Ren.  Mindy said that although she had not see the film yet, Kylo Ren seemed focused and obsessed.    Driver talked about the great job J.J. and Larry (Lawrence Kasdan, Screenwriter) did in adding a bit of recklessness to the character that is not common in the villains and the dark side.

Lawrence Kasdan chimed in saying there has never been a character like Kylo Ren in the saga.  He (Kylo Ren) doesn’t have it together yet and Adam does a great job with the contradictions and conflict.

Lupita Nyong’o talked about her role as a former space pirate who is now runs a bar.  Mindy said it reminded her of a female Sam Malone and jokingly asked if that meant that Yoda was the Norm?   But moved on to ask the real question.  What is the relationship between Maz Kanata and Yoda?     Lupita replied “He was my first love”, but according to J.J. Abrams their paths do not cross in this film.  Abrams continued discussing Lupita’s character and praised her on her willingness and committment to continuously working on how to better tell the story with her character.

Daisy Ridley‘s question was unexpected for me.  Mindy asked if she had a walk up song and what would it be.  (Athletics have a walk-up song when entering the arena to pump them up).  Daily said she actually did have a walk up song and it was “I’ll make a man out of you” from Mulan which Daisy played in her trailer before going out to film.

Finally it was our turn for questions and the first one went to J.J. Abrams.   ” what was the most important thing to bring to The Force Awakens from the original trilogy, to you?”   Mr. Abrams responded that at the beginning in discussions with Kathleen Kennedy and Lawrence Kasdan, the question was what did we want to feel and what did we want the audience to feel when they came to see the film?    The response was a kind of sense of discovery, exhilaration and surprise.

Daisy and Carrie were asked about bringing in the girl power to The Force like in the original trilogy.   Carrie confirmed she was the beginning of the girl power.  She was the only “girl in an all boy set”   Carrie enjoyed the power to boss all the men around but said that Daisy brough more physical power, where Carrie engaged in more yelling and screaming at the men.  Daisy talked about Princess Leia and Carrie being an inspiration to girls and hoped that one day Rey would also be a girl power figure.   Daisy commented that with Carrie, Lupita and Kathleen Kennedy there was a wonderful cast and crew of women involved in the film.

Asked about Abrams custom to keep his films secretive, he was asked if it was difficult to release some of the footage.   J.J. responded saying that he realized that Lucasfilm had a unique engagement with fans and that he would have to work hard trying to keep the surprise but also keep fans happy. But it turned out that it was Disney who did not want to release too much.

One of my favorite questions asked of Mr. Abrams was “Since the original trilogy we’ve sent probes to lots of the planets in our solar system and we’ve discovered hundreds of new extra-solar planets. Did anything we’ve learned from science make its way into the design of planets in this movie?”

J.J. Abrams response was classic “NO”.

Asked about the story and whether Lawrence and J.J. referred to the countless books written about the Star Wars Universe, their response was this is #7 and we wanted to tell the story that interested and delighted us without parameters.

Question for the cast was asked about whether there were any surprises or did the film live up to their expectations?    Adam Driver gave a great response in saying that it’s still called Star Wars and that even 30 years later it’s the same things going on, like life.  same and different people in and out and things change but things also stay the same.

Another good question was about the names of the characters which have always been unique.  What process was used to come up with new character names?  Kasdan responded saying the process was easy.  Do we like it?  Does it sound good to say it?   BB-8 was the name from the beginning.  Finn, Rey and Poe had a few different changes, Kylo Ren was Kylo Ren from early on.

Adam Driver was asked about the legacy he will carry forward with Kylo Ren, to which Adam replied saying “Well, I think a lot of it’s beyond my control, I would say.”  ” … I remember early on we – not think of him being bad or evil or a villain and try to make something that was more three-dimensional, ‘cause that to me, when we were talking originally, seemed more dangerous and more unpredictable, someone who feels morally justified in doing whatever they need to publicly kind of state that what they’re doing is right seems kind of something more active to play than just being evil for the sake of it.”

One popular question that always comes up at the press events is the end credits and Easter eggs or extra scenes.  J.J. Abrams confirmed there would not be any in the film since all the scenes are actually in the film.

Costumes was another great question and the most difficult one according to Abrams was Kylo Ren.   The costume went through hundreds or even thousands of iterations and different versions by costume designer, Michael Kaplan.

The final question of the session went to Carrie Fisher, whose dog Gary is a celebrity and constant companion.  She was asked if her dog, Gary would be in the film.   Sadly, J.J. Abrams is not fond of animals and did not include Gary in the Star Wars:  The Force Awakens film.  Maybe the next film, Gary!

Don’t miss Part 3 of the press conference on www.chipandcom.com next week.

What would Christmas be without hearing, at least once, the popular poem, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas? It’s a classic Christmas tradition for many people. Walt Disney World created an amazing video with plenty of Disney characters and cast members from around the parks reciting the poem for the enjoyment of Disney fans everywhere.

While you listen you can enjoy seeing some of your favorite places around the parks.

Merry Christmas from the crew at Chip and Company!

Arthur Charles Roy, 18 years old, of Helena, Montana, was arrested and charged with felony assault with a weapon. He is facing felony charges because he threatened to shoot a boy for posting info about a subplot for the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie. His bail was set at $10,000.

Roy, got angry when he saw the details about the movie posted on Facebook, by a friend. He proceeded to then send his friend a picture of himself holding a gun and threatened to come to the person’s school to shoot him. He also mentioned that he has a “hair-trigger”.

The victim reported the threat to a school resource officer. The alternative high school went under a lock down after students expressed their fear that Roy might just go through with his threat.

His mother did not understand why her son was being arrested, she said it was only a BB gun in the picture.

Savor These New Year’s Eve Dining Experiences at Walt Disney World

I don’t know about you, but the closer we get to ringing in the New Year, the more I start to think about the inevitable New Year’s resolution: to trim away some of those excess pounds.  But before I fully commit to kicking off 2016 with salads and nutrishakes, it’s only appropriate to go all out and give 2015 a proper send-off.

And there’s no place that knows how to celebrate and dine in style better than Disney.

As part of its New Year’s festivities, there are a number of restaurants and resorts offering unique dining experiences from special parties to prix-fixe menus.  Here are some amazing and mouth-watering dining opportunities available to guests to ring in the New Year:

New Year’s Eve at Epcot World ShowPlace (Epcot).  Along with the Magic Kingdom, Epcot is one the most popular spots to celebrate the New Year at Disney World.  At World ShowPlace, you can enjoy a custom dinner buffet that has more offerings than you can shake a turkey leg at.  For starters, there are locally harvested salads; tomato basil soup; and creamy seafood and corn chowder.  For entrees, there’s braised beef with mushroom and pearl onions; baked cod with tomato, olives and peppers; carved mesquite spice deep fried turkey breast with cranberry BBQ sauces; chicken breast with lemon caper sauce and parsley; and mojo roasted pork with roasted onion and sweet plantains.

For dessert, there are several dessert stations featuring ganache brownies; salted caramel bundt cakes; Mickey key lime tarts; cream puffs; lemon cookies; sugar-free and gluten-free spice cake; banana chocolate chip bread pudding; warm apple, pear and cherry crisps; and vanilla bean ice cream with strawberry sauce, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and Mickey confetti.  After dinner, you can then go to the World ShowPlace promenade to have an amazing view of Illuminations (although this is not a dedicated private viewing area).  Admission to this event costs $71.84 for adults and $44.37 for children, excluding taxes.

New Year’s Eve Menu at Monsieur Paul (Epcot).  For New Year’s, Monsieur Paul is offering a 3-course prix-fixe lunch at 11:45 am and 2:15 pm and a 3-course prix-fixe dinner at 5:45 pm ($85 per person excluding tax and gratituity).  Appetizers include: escargot cassolette with white wine, bacon and shallots; carrot soup with fresh goat cheese ravioli; or mixed greens with roquefort blue cheese.  For entrees, there’s a selection between chicken with morel mushrooms and cream sauce; Maine lobster in bisque sauce with sweet peas and gnocchi; and beef short ribs braised in red wine with pasta gratin and black truffles.  Then you can end the meal with a special celebratory dessert.

For a truly special dining celebration, you can also opt for the 4-course prix-fixe menu with seating from 8:45 pm to 9:50 pm, priced at $235 per adult (additional $60 if adding wine) and $235 per child, excluding tax and gratuity.  Appetizers include beef broth with oxtail and vegetables, black winter truffle, and puff pastry; or smoked salmon with potatoes stuffed with domestic caviar.  The dinner fish course provides options between poached scallops with Sancerre wine and vegetable julienne; and Maine lobster with sautéed mushrooms, soft boiled quail egg, and creamy black truffle bouillon.  For the dinner meat course, you can choose between stuffed chicken with mushrooms, green cabbage puree, sautéed potatoes, and truffle sauce Perigourdine; or braised beef ribs with red wine and black currant, truffle mashed potatoes, and glazed carrots.  And if you still have room after all of that, there’s the ever mysterious New Year’s special dessert.

Nochevieja at La Hacienda de San Angel (Epcot).  It’s a Mexican twist on this New Year’s celebration!  At La Hacienda de San Angel, guests will enjoy live entertainment, tequilas, and views of Illuminations.  Dinner seating starts at 9:30 pm and costs $280.13 per adult and $73.46 per child (including tax and gratuity).  Kick off the celebration with a welcome margarita and dance to a live mariachi band.  Then enjoy a 5-course prix-fixe menu that has surf and turf as the main entree, and there’s also a tequila pairing provided by their very own Tequila Ambassador.

Countdown to Midnight at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club (Yacht & Beach Club Convention Center).  This celebration will feature not one, not two, but three different themed party experiences.  First, you can enjoy hilarious comedy at the Adventurer’s Club.  Then you can boogie to Club Live, where rollicking tunes will be played by a nine-piece dance band.  Finally, at Club Vinyl, a seven-piece band will feature a jazzy twist to modern hits.  The party kicks off at 8:00 pm at the Convention Center and check-in starts at 7:30 pm.  It wouldn’t be a Disney party if it didn’t have plentiful food, so there are buffet stations that feature all-you-care-to-eat goodies and sweets.  Beer, wine, and cocktails are also all included with admission, and each guest will receive their very own champagne glass to toast the New Year and keep as a souvenir.  Admission is $300 per person, including tax and gratuities.  Please note: the event is exclusive to Walt Disney World Resort guests only.

Le Cellier (Epcot).  At Le Cellier, there are three seatings you can choose from to celebrate the New Year.  1st seating is at 4:30 pm, and 2nd seating is at 6:45 pm.  Both are four-course meals with a choice of appetizer, entree and dessert.  The cost of the meal, which also includes a souvenir champagne flute with the Le Cellier logo, is $148.04 per adult and $47.93 per child, including tax and gratuity.  You can also opt for the 3rd seating at 9:00 pm, where you can take advantage of a five-course meal!  Cost for the third seating is $211.94 per adult and $69.23 per child, including tax and gratuity.

California Grill New Year’s Eve Gala (Contemporary Resort).  The California Grill is famous not only for its excellent cuisine but also for its one-of-a-kind view of the Wishes fireworks.  At this gala, you are sure to enjoy both!  California Grill will host a dine-around style event with food stations set up all around the restaurant.  There is also a complimentary bar in addition to wine poured by the glass, which you can enjoy until midnight.  Most importantly, California Grill is one of the few venues that will feature an appearance by some special guests, like Mickey, Minnie, or other members of the gang!  Seating is at 8:00 pm and a dinner jacket is required for men and dress or pants ensemble for women.  Cost for this gala is $625.00 (yes, you are reading that right) per person with tax and gratuity included.

Narcoossee’s (Grand Floridian Resort).  One of our favorite seafood restaurants at Disney is also ringing in the New Year with a dinner celebration.  You have the option of having an early dinner, with seatings between 5:00 pm and 5:45 pm at a cost of $159.75 per adult and $74.55 per child, including tax and gratuity.  You can also choose the late dining event, which has seating times between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm.  The cost is $317.48 per adult and $118.28 per child including tax and gratuity.  Narcoossee’s is an amazing waterfront dining venue and you can’t go wrong with its view of Wishes.

Victoria & Albert’s (Grand Floridian Resort).  We don’t have a lot of detail on what the New Year’s eve festivities at V&A, but if there’s anything we know about this fine dining destination, it’s that the food will be out-of-this-world fantastic.  For New Year’s Eve, there will be a ten-course menu which features eight savory courses and two dessert courses.  There’s also an option of a nine-course wine pairing with specialty wines.

Atlantic Dance Hall (BoardWalk Inn).  Enjoy a live band and dance the night away right into 2016 at Atlantic Dance Hall.  For $37.00 per person, you will receive a complimentary champagne toast at midnight, party hats and horns, and a view of Illuminations.  You can also opt for the VIP Experience at a cost of $80.00 per person – this allows you access to the VIP section on the second floor, where you have guaranteed seating, a dessert bar, and a dedicated bartender.

With that, I will turn it over to you, our dear readers.  Which of these dining experiences would you love to attend?  Where have you secured a reservation?  Sound off in the comments below!

Universal Orlando has Purchased Over 450 Acres of Land

Universal
Universal

Universal

A company connected with Universal has purchased over 450 acres close to the Orange County Courthouse. This could quite possibly mean that there is an expansion on the way to Universal Orlando. The sale of the land was final on December 18th.

The property is north of the convention center, and south of Lockheed Martin’s Missiles and Fire Control plant. There are also 2 big road expansions on the horizon, Kirkman Road and Destination Parkway. The land also includes the largest areas of vacant land in the I-Drive area, which is a tourist area. If you know that area, you know there are already so many hotels there, so that makes it perfect for a theme park expansion.

A little background on the land. A company previously associated with Universal once owned this same property. It was originally owned by Lockheed Martin in 1998. Fast forward a few years and some developers purchased it with restrictions on what they could build on it. Unfortunately it went into foreclosure during the recession.

Universal has not commented and as far as we know there is no timeline for anything being developed. However, it is a lot of land so I am sure we can expect some great things.

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust
