2015-11-20 10.03.16-1

and for me Pictopia Star Wars Edition!

2016-01-12 08.48.25

The biggest hit for my youngest was the Disney Imagicademy activity books. While many of the activities she needed a little help with as she is only 4 years old, you can see really enjoyed trying to figure things out. It was great Daddy/Daughter time at the kitchen table working on these books together during our Christmas Break. We have an upcoming trip to Disney next month and I will be bringing these to use on the plane for sure!

Like I mentioned above my oldest enjoyed the StoryMation Studio for making videos. Mostly she makes Littlest Pet Shop Videos on her Youtube Channel but she did take a break to use the sets provided in the kit to make a few videos with the app.

For me the highlight was Pictopia Star Wars Edition. I have been eyeing this game for a while and was glad to receive it in the mail. My fiance the Disney Fashionista has never seen Star Wars so I don’t have anyone in the house to play with but as soon as we have a couples game night I am going to break this out for some Star Wars trivia fun.

Wonder Forge has a variety of fun games, puzzles, activities you and your family should check out. For a full list of games visit their website here.

Special thank you to our friends at Wonder Forge for sharing these games with us and for giving us some fun things to do on our Holiday Break!

10 Must Try Desserts at Disney World

Disney World is a world of magic. It is a world of fun and family memories. It is also a world of magically delicious food! There are lots of great articles out there that will tell you all about quick service or table service restaurants, or even the best snacks that can be found at the parks and resorts. Today, though, we’re going to talk about my favorite Disney food group – DESSERT!

So, without any further ado, here are 10 must try Disney World desserts…

10. Tiramisu – The tiramisu at Mama Melrose’s Restaurante Italiano is amazing. Layers of mascarpone cream and espresso soaked lady fingers topped with whipped cream, yum. A chocolate dipped lady finger that accompanies the dish adds a nice crispness to the soft and creamy dessert. Be aware, it does have a bit of a kick to it!

9. House-made Candy Bar – If you like rich and chocolatey desserts, then you’ll love the house-made candy bar from Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater. It’s not a candy bar in the everyday sense of the word. A moist sponge cake is layered with both white and dark chocolate mousse. Crispy candy pearls give the dish a bit of a crunch and the whole thing is coated in a rich chocolate ganache. A fresh strawberry and whipped cream as served along with it to provide a freshness to the dish.

8. Sticky Toffee Pudding – At the Rose and Crown Dining Room you’ll find pudding in the British sense of the word – much like bread pudding. The warm sticky pudding cake has a delightful toffee taste to it. The pudding is served with a smooth vanilla custard sauce and buttery rum-butter sauce.

7. Bananas Foster Bread Pudding – The glorious bread pudding from Ohana is served family style! Soft and spongey sweet bread pudding if brought to your table topped with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream. The ice cream helps to cut through the slight denseness of the pudding, but also the sweetness of the warm bananas foster sauce that is poured onto the pudding and ice cream when it arrives to the table. The bread pudding alone is worth a trip to Ohana for dinner – just be sure to save room for it!

6. Strawberry Shortcake – The strawberry shortcake served as dessert at the Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue at the Fort Wilderness Resort is big enough to share! And that’s why as a party of two my husband and I only got one. The country style shortcake is layered with sweet and syrupy strawberry goodness and topped with a generous amount of whipped cream. By the time you get to the end the bottom layer of shortcake has soaked up the strawberry sauce – make sure that you get every last bit!

5. Ugly but Good – The Coppa Brutti Ma Buoni or Ugly but Good from Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria is exactly as the name states. The dish may not be pretty, but it is incredibly delicious. Large scoops of vanilla gelato with Amarena cherries and a crisp cookie topped with whipped cream. A truly magnifico Italian dessert.

4. Peanut Butter and Jelly Shake – If you like the combination of peanut butter and jelly, and really who doesn’t, then this milkshake from 50’s Prime Time Café is just right for you. Creamy vanilla ice cream blended with lots of peanut butter and grape jelly make you feel like a kid again! The shake is also available at the Tune-In Lounge right next door to 50’s.

3. Bread and Butter Pudding – The bread and butter pudding from Raglan Road may just be the best bread pudding that I have ever had in my life, and I love bread pudding and make it myself. The pudding is baked in a mug and is brought to your table in the mug before your server scoops it out for you and drizzles on the accompanying sauces. The pudding is warm, moist, soft, fluffy, and buttery! The vanilla and caramel sauces add to the amazing buttery flavor. I can’t wait to sink my teeth into this buttery deliciousness again.

2. The Grey Stuff – As if dining in the Beast’s castle wasn’t amazing enough you can add to the experience by trying the Grey Stuff! There are two different serving variations of the Gray Stuff at Be Our Guest, one at lunch and one at dinner. The actual gray stuff is a gray fluffy mousse like creation. At lunch it is served on top of the Master’s Cupcake and at Dinner it is served on a crispy brownie type dessert. Both are equally delicious – don’t believe us, ask the dishes.

1. The Kitchen Sink Sundae – The Kitchen Sink Sundae from Beaches and Cream is the ultimate dessert! The menu states that it serves four, but it could easily serve more. With eight scoops of ice cream, a whole can of whipped cream, and 22 toppings that include candy, cookies, sprinkles, chocolate, fruit, syrups, nuts, and more. I look forward to trying this deliciously decedent dessert someday.

There are so many amazing desserts available at Disney World that there’s no way you’ll be able to try them all. You should, however, try to cross these ten amazing desserts off your Disney World dining bucket list.

What’s your favorite Disney World dessert? Did it make the list? Let us know in the comments!

How Much Does it Cost to go to Disneyland and California Adventure

disneyland cost

Disneyland is Walt’s original Magic Kingdom, and I personally believe that it is a place that every Disney addict should visit at least once in their lifetime. Many factors go into planning a trip to Disneyland, especially if it involves traveling across the country to get there. Let’s talk about these factors and how much it cost to visit Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure parks.

  • Number of People – The number of people visiting the parks is the first important factor. Each additional person will bring costs for park tickets, food, and souvenirs. Also keep in mind that most hotels can only accommodate 4-5 adults. Many hotels also charge more for each additional adult (after the first two).
  • Number of Days – How many days do you plan on spending at Disneyland? There are two parks, so 3-4 days at the park is the perfect amount to be able to complete all that there is to see and do. The number of nights also affects the cost of your hotel stay since hotels charge by night.
  • When You Go – When you travel to the Disneyland Resort will affect the cost of your hotel room. September, January, and February are the cheapest months of the year, because they are still considered the “off-season”. December and the summer months are by far the most expensive time for hotels, especially on property resort hotels. Holiday weekends will also greatly affect the Good Neighbor, or off-site hotels just like with any hotel. Another thing to consider, although it does not affect the cost, is that because Disneyland is in the middle of Anaheim and many locals have annual passes the parks do get crowded on weekends, during school breaks, and during the weeks leading up to and of Christmas.
  • Where you Stay – Your choice of lodging is a major factor in terms of cost. Disneyland has three on property hotels and there are also 40 Good Neighbor Hotels. The three onsite hotels offer intricate themes from the California wilderness to the beach. These resort hotels range in price from around $280 (average) to $400 (average). The Good Neighbor Hotels range from economy, costing around $100 per night to superior costing around $200-250 per night. If you want the ability to stay at a “nicer” hotel like a Holiday Inn or Marriott, but do not want to pay the $200 a night, there are additional hotels within 5 miles of Disneyland and will only take you a few minutes to reach the Disneyland Resort by car.
  • Park Tickets – Park Tickets are essential and are the next big expense. There are two ticket options – the regular one park per day ticket or the Park Hopper Ticket. The price difference between a three and four day adult one park per day is only $25 – so if you have the time don’t hesitate to spend an extra day at the parks. The three day base ticket is $235 per person. Upgrading to a park hopper, which will allow you to visit both parks on the same day (the two park entrances are about 100 yards apart) will add an additional $40 per person.
  • Dining – Food is also essential, after all you need energy to travel from land to land within the parks. Unlike at Disney World, there is no dining plan at Disneyland which means there are three options. Disney allows you to bring your own food in, which is a great way to save money! You should definitely allow yourself some spending money for those tempting snacks, though. If you choose to provide your own food for all three meals but allow each member of your party $5 a day for a snack this will cost you $30 for snacks for two people over a 3 day trip. Another options is to purchase all three meals a day at the parks which will cost you at least $35 per person per day, but it could definitely cost more. The third option is to combine the previous two options. My family eats breakfast before we leave for or are on the way to the park in the morning, we bring our own lunch, and purchase a snack and dinner from the park. This is a great way to limit spending, but to also be able to experience the great food that Disney has to offer.
  • Souvenirs – Souvenirs are hard to resist and can be anything from balloons to toys to pins to shirts. I personally think that $100 per person for the length of your trip is a good amount to allot for souvenirs. A great way to limit your spending in this area is to use Disney gift cards! Each family’s budget will obviously be different – you can spend more or you can spend less.
  • Extra – Extras such as travel insurance can be added to your trip, if you wish. It will cost an additional $70.50 per adult.
  • Parking – Parking fees are unavoidable, sadly. If you are staying at any of the Disney or Good Neighbor hotels a parking fee of anywhere from $10 to even $20 per day will be included in your overall trip price. For those driving to the park from a further away hotel it will cost $18 per day to park in a Disney lot/garage.
  • Transportation – Transportation is the last factor that plays into the overall cost of your tip. For those that are driving to the Anaheim area the cost of gas and possible additional hotels need to be taken into consideration and can change daily. The cost of flights can also change daily – so when you book, where you are flying from, and how many people are flying will affect the cost. A best case scenario will allow you to fly one-way for $100 per person or around $200-300 per person round trip. Once you arrive in LA you will need a way to get to your hotel. Some hotels offer shuttles, there is also the pricey option of taking a taxi, or renting a car which will allow you to be able to go to more places than just the parks and your hotel. A rental car could cost around $100 per day.

So, what does all of this information mean? A lot of factors come into play when figuring out what a trip to the Happiest Place on Earth will cost. Let’s look at some real numbers…

For a couple to stay 3 nights in January at the Quality Inn & Suites with a 3 day one park per day ticket, $30 total for food, $200 total for souvenirs, and $10 a day in parking will cost $1112.94.

For a couple to stay 3 nights at the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa in January with a 3 day Park Hopper ticket, $50 per person per day for food, $200 total for souvenirs, $18 per night for parking, $100 per day for a rental car, and $400 total in flights will cost $3,352.22.

For a family of four to stay 3 nights in January at the Quality Inn & Suites with a 3 day one park per day ticket, $60 total for food, $400 for souvenirs, $10 a day in parking will cost $1811.94.

For the same family of four to spend 3 nights in January at the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa with a 3 day Park Hopper ticket, $50 per day per adult and $30 per child per day for food, $400 total for souvenirs, $18 a night to park, $100 per day for a rental car, and $800 total in flights will cost $4681.22.

No two trips to the Happiest Place on Earth will cost exactly the same, so contact me at [email protected] to get started planning your magical vacation to the Happiest Place on Earth. New details emerge on last nights incident at Disney Springs

Disney Springs

Last night we reported about an incident that happened at Disney Springs. It was originally reported by several news stations that there were shots fired, but it turns out it was just an altercation that resulted in the Orange County Sheriff’s Office being called.  (Read about it here)

The fight was caused by 70 year old Luis Antonio Ojeda-Reyes, who resides in Putnam County Florida. The disturbance occured at Bongos Cuban Cafe just a little after 9:30 pm on December 25th.  Mr. Ojeda-Reyes was very bothered by the wait time for his food at Bongos due to the Christmas crowds and when he complained to management he was not happy with the answer he received.

Mr. Ojeda-Reyes starting pushing, hitting and cursing at one of the managers and another manager came over to try and calm him down and he threw his hat on the table and yelled, “I don’t f*****g want anyone apologizing,” and “f**k this,” the Police report states is what started the chaos. At some point in the all the chaos people thought they heard gunshots and started yelling “gun gun” which caused people to run out, almost causing a riot. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is still not sure why people thought they heard gunshots. Bongos employees said no shots were fired, and Sheriff’s found no weapon on him at the time of his arrest. He is being charged with battery.

Looking for a kid-free spot to enjoy some drinks and music? Look no further than this exciting spot along Disney’s Boardwalk. Singing and drinking to the banter of dueling pianos welcome the party crowd to Jellyrolls nightly from 7pm- 2am. Here, people of all ages join together in song as quick-witted pianists bang out old-time favorite singalongs.  No park admission is needed, as it is located right along crescent lake on the Boardwalk. It is also just a quick walk from EPCOT or Hollywood Studios if you would like to keep the night going after park closings!

Song requests are strongly urged  and no request is too obscure! The 2 amazing musicians will honor almost any song choice within reason ( I have seen them deny one song with a strong drug reference).  A dollar or two delivered with your song request is also a welcome sight!

This is a great place to go on a date night while the kids are over at the Sandcastle Club, or when you are fortunate enough to be on an adults-only trip! Girls night out? Perfect! Several Attractions to Close to Make Way for ‘Star Wars’ Land at Disneyland

BTR
BTR

BTR

Disneyland is about to launch its largest expansion ever to make way for Star Wars’ Land. In order to build the 14-acre area, a significant chunk of the park will be shut down. Some attractions and eateries will be closed beginning in January. Most will only be closed temporarily but there are a few that are closing permanently.

The attractions closing permanently are Big Thunder Ranch and Big Thunder Ranch BBQ in Frontierland. The last day to experience them is January 10, 2016. The animals that are part of the petting zoo have been adopted by a Southern California family that has worked with Disney animals in the past.

Other attractions that will be closed (temporarily) are those on the Rivers of America-Fantasmic, the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes. The Disneyland Railroad will also be closed.

Disney offices located outside of the park, just north of Big Thunder Ranch, will also be removed to make way for Star Wars Land. The employees that work in those offices are being relocated to two office buildings a few blocks away that Disney purchased last year.

So, what will this new area at Disneyland be like? When Disney Chief Executive Robert Iger announced the expansion in August he said it would include a re-creation of the Millennium Falcon, in which guests can take the controls for a “customized secret mission,” along with an immersive attraction that will put visitors into “a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”

I’ve heard many people say that Disneyland won’t be worth visiting while construction is going on for Star Wars Land. I disagree! There will still be so much going on at the park that is worth experiencing! “We are excited to begin the work that will lay the foundation for the future ‘Star Wars’-themed land at Disneyland,” Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown said. “With our continuing Diamond Celebration entertainment and the new Season of the Force offerings, there is so much for guests to do during this time.”

The Diamond Celebration will last through September 5, 2016 and offers new and exciting shows like the Paint the Night parade, Disneyland Forever fireworks, and World of Color-Celebrate! Also, Season of the Force is happening in Tomorrowland. That event features 2 new ride experiences: Space Mountain is now Hyperspace Mountain and Star Tours has new scenes and characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Launch Bay is an area where you can meet Star Wars characters and play Star Wars video games. The Galactic Grill offers Star Wars-themed foods and treats. No end date has been announced for Season of the Force yet.

Are you excited for the new Star Wars Land at Disneyland?

The attractions that are closing to make way for Star Wars Land are still open. It’s not too late to book your vacation to see them before their closing date of January 11th! Email me at [email protected] to start planning or follow me on Facebook for more Disney news and updates.
