As darkness descends upon Disney’s Animal Kingdom the Tree of Life is Awakened with brilliant hues of color and light. When the tree awakens, fireflies magically reveal animal spirits as they emerge from the trunk of the tree. The Awakenings are set to a fitting musical track. Spirit creatures such as a deer, a fox, and a pair of hummingbirds will appear and embark on separate journeys. Each experience is its own entity and lasts approximately three to four minutes. The Tree of Life will Awaken randomly about every fifteen to twenty minutes throughout the evening.
Unlike the new Harambe Village Acrobats and The Jungle Book: Alive With Magic, this new night-time experience is not listed in the Times Guide. One reason for this fact is that the Awakenings do not have set times. If you wish to catch each awakenings journey, you will need to spend quite a bit of your evening in front of the Tree of Life. However, I can assure you that your time and efforts will not go un-rewarded. Each Awakening is truly magical and I believe these new experiences need to be added to everybody’s “Not To Be Missed” list.
Many of us are quite familiar with the Tree of Life as it appears during the day. This iconic image of Disney’s Animal Kingdom stands 145 feet tall, is a must-see during the daylight hours, and can be seen from most areas of the park. While this is impressive, the Tree of Life is even more spectacular at night. Words and pictures cannot do it true justice. The Tree of Life has been sleeping at night since the opening of Animal Kingdom on Earth Day in 1998. With the animal spirits emerging from the tree as if they have always been there, I truly believe that this icon has been majestically awaiting it’s time of awakening.
We were able to get some videos from the Animal Kingdom from this weekend including the The Jungle Book: Alive With Magic & Awakening of the Tree of life. We hope you enjoy them!

Walt Disney World is a BIG PLACE – like 40 square miles big! To put that in perspective, that’s about the same size as San Francisco, or two Manhattan islands. Needless to say, one cannot expect to traverse the Disney World Parks by foot alone! Disney has its own internal transportation system in place, and it’s designed to help make your life easier and allow you to spend more time enjoying all the Disney Magic!
Read on for a rundown of the basics of Disney World transportation:
Disney’s Magical Express is likely the first encounter you will have with Disney World transportation – as it’s the shuttle that brings you (and your luggage!) from the Orlando Airport to your WDW Resort Hotel , and then back again after your vacation is over (which has earned the return trip the name of “Tragical Express” – because no one wants to leave Disney World). When planning your Disney World vacation I highly suggest you plan to stay at one of Disney’s many awesome on site Resorts so that you can take advantage of this shuttle service, as it’s a great benefit that’s included for Disney World Resort guests (read more about other benefits of staying on site here)
Once you’re on site, you’ll have a variety of options to get you where you want to go, in the form of buses, monorails, and boats. All Value Resorts offer BUS transportation to the Parks/water parks/Disney Springs, and it’s once you move up to Moderate and Deluxe Resorts that you will see more options available to you:
BOAT transportation to the Magic Kingdom is available from: Fort Wilderness, Grand Floridian Resort, Polynesian Village Resort, and Wilderness Lodge.
BOAT Transportation to Epcot and Hollywood Studios is available from: Boardwalk Inn, Beach & Yacht Club Resorts, and Disney’s Swan & Dolphin Hotels.
BOAT Transportation to Disney Springs is available from: Port Orleans Riverside & French Quarter Resorts, Old Key West, and Saratoga Springs Resort.
MONORAIL Transportation connects the following places: Magic Kingdom, Contemporary Resort, Grand Floridian, Polynesian Village, and the Ticket and Transportation Center. From the Ticket and Transportation center itself, you can also catch an express monorail to both Epcot and the Magic Kingdom
Getting From Place To Place: Based on the above, it might seem like getting from point A to point B is impossibly confusing – and while it is a lot to try and understand, you really don’t have to remember all of it – as any WDW Cast Member will help you plot out your destination, and most of the time it’s as easy as taking a bus from your hotel directly to the Disney Parks. The one thing I do want to mention is that sometimes Disney World transportation runs on what I like to call “Disney Time” – which means that it might take slightly longer to get to your destination than you originally thought – between waiting for the bus/monorail/boat and then the unloading process, then the loading process, then the bus is full and they have to send another one…well, you get the picture – and it’s best just to assume you will need some extra time to get from place to place. While it may not be the world’s fastest transportation system, it manages to be as efficient as it can – considering just how many people they are moving around on a daily basis
Bottom line is– regardless of how much you take advantage of the amazing WDW Transportation system, you still will want to make sure you wear your most comfortable walking shoes when heading out for a day at the Disney Parks – personally I recommend/prefer sneakers that have been slightly worn in (but aren’t super old/worn out). You WILL be doing a LOT of walking at the Parks, so this is the one time that you should NOT worry about how fashionable your footwear is – as comfort is key here!
So what Disney World Transportation is your favorite? Let us know in the comment box below.
If you weren’t aware that Animal Kingdom was opening up a new restaurant to enhance it’s nighttime offerings, then here’s your chance to get familiar with the newest dining addition to the parks: Tiffin’s. Here’s a fantastic detailed description that Disney has put out for guests:
“This new restaurant highlights our commitment to introduce new, innovative and immersive experiences only Disney can deliver,” said Beth Scott, vice president of Food & Beverage for Disney Parks & Resorts. “ We are confident that our culinary and beverage professionals have created something that re-imagines theme park dining, and encourage our guests to explore these authentic global flavors just as our Imagineers did when designing Disney’s Animal Kingdom.”
A detailed map within the restaurant’s entryway sets the stage for an immersive dining experience celebrating world travel, with bold artwork derived from sketches, journals and research from those who created the theme park.
“Tiffins is the signature restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, celebrating the culture of design and research that went into creating this unique park,” said Emily O’Brien, Walt Disney Imagineering executive show producer for Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
“All the senses are explored and turned into amazing works of art,” said O’Brien. “Two of the three ‘galleries,’ or dining rooms, focus on Asia [Trek Gallery with 74 seats] and Africa [Safari Gallery with 64 seats], and the third [Grand Gallery with 114 seats] pays homage to animal species that the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund works to protect.”
The travel-inspired artwork includes a static, three-dimensional piece that features prayer flags blowing in the wind. “As our research team traveled up the high mountains of Nepal, the winds were strong,” explained O’Brien. “The prayer flags are rarely seen hanging, they are always blowing.” This portrayal of the motion is realistically captured in the display which will hang above a corner booth in the Trek Gallery.
“Tiffins is not about a make-believe place, it’s about real people and places,” said O’Brien.
Here is a peek inside:
Global Menu
From the familiar to something new, the menu offers diners starters such a Lobster-Popcorn Thai Curry Soup with Basil and Peanuts (Asia/Africa) and marinated grilled octopus (Europe). Sustainable seasonal fish crudo (South America) and a salad of roasted baby beets and goat cheese with walnut granola and a sun-dried cherry vinaigrette (North America) round out international creations.
Entrées include Berber-Spiced Lamb Chop with Mustard Greens, Lentil Stew and Mint Chutney (Africa); Berkshire Pork Tenderloin with Huitlacoche Tamale, Hominy Succotash and Red Mole Sauce (South America); Miso-glazed Black Cod with Forbidden Rice in Steamed Bok Choywith Turmeric Sauce (Asia), and Grilled Head-on Shrimp with Tomatoes, Roasted Fennel, Olives and Sea Urchin Butter Sauce (Europe). For vegetarians, the Roasted Market Vegetable Curry with Quinoa, Zucchini and Lime Chutney brings a taste of Asia.
The kids’ menu includes roasted chicken, pan-seared cod and braised short ribs with seasonal vegetables and cous cous or multigrain rice, or roasted vegetables served over spaghetti squash.
Beverages focus on Africa, Asia and South America, including handcrafted cocktails and beers. Non-alcoholic beverages include exotic-fruit-flavored lemonades, Asian and African premium loose-leaf teas and coffee beans from Columbia, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Tanzania.
“With a focus on South American and South African wines, the beverage program is very special – we don’t have another one like it at Disney,” said Master Sommelier Brian Koziol, Food & Beverage Concept and Development director for Disney Parks & Resorts. “The program will focus on environmentality: producers that focus on sustainability, organic wines, and bio-dynamic viticulture,” he explained. “Environmentality is a core value at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and this beverage program is a great way to share that with our guests.”
Nomad Lounge
With beautiful waterfront views, the adjacent Nomad Lounge focuses on storytelling, and also on guests’ travels.
“We’re trying to tell the story of how guests can make a change,” said O’Brien. While the answers of Disney experts are displayed, guests also have the opportunity purchase a tag that supports the Disney Conservation Fund and to write their own answers to the questions to display above the bar– a way to share their own travel stories “so they can be a part of the story,” said O’Brien.
With 55 seats inside, and 46 seats in a covered outdoor area, Nomad Lounge offers a half-dozen small bites such as a vegetarian summer roll, a seared Wagyu beef skewer, honey-glazed coriander-spiced pork ribs, Indian butter-chicken wings, seasonal fish balls with shishito peppers and house-made head cheese and chicken liver pate with chutney.
Like Tiffins, the lounge offers handcrafted cocktails with African, Asian and South American flavors, imported beers and a South American and South African wine list. Non-alcoholic beverages include exotic-fruit-flavored lemonades, Asian and African premium loose-leaf teas and coffee beans from Columbia, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Tanzania.

I scream you scream we all scream for… Dole Whips! Ah yes, those deliciously refreshing treats from Disney that have become iconic. I don’t know about you though, but I crave them when I’m not at Disney, so I love this fun way to create DIY Dole Whips a home!
To have fresh and tasty Dole Whips at home when ever you want, will really only require two main things. First a good Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker, you want a quality one that will hold up. The next, and most important item, is the Dole Whip brand Pineapple Soft Serve Mix. With these two lovely items you can be serving up with tropical treat of Disney vacation memories in no time. I like the Cuisinart Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker because it’s upright and has a place to set a bowl under, and a cone holder too if you want more versatility. Another fun thing to add if you’re making them at home, is a maraschino cherry, to make it a Disneyland Dole Whip! For me never having been to Disneyland (SAD I KNOW!!) it’s the closest I’ll ever get to the Californian version.
So there we go! Our own fun way to have a taste of Disney at home when ever we like, and great for parties too! Can we say Adventureland Themed Party? Have you ever wanted to make your own DIY Dole Whips at home?
If you’re looking to add a little extra touch of Disney to your next cookie baking session, well have I found the cookie cutters for you! Etsy Designer kaykayline has an endless assortment of cookie cutters to bring your favorite characters to edible life!
These cookie cutters are super adorable, and are the perfect kitchen accessory for any Disney Addict who loves to bake. These are made in 3D and not only give you a shape, but they also make an imprint! The imprint lines add depth and shape to the cookies. These cutters also make it easier to decorate your cookies with royal frosting! I also love that they are even made from a biodegradable plastic! There are many Disney cutters to choose from, but check out a list of my favorites below.
New Guide Maps are now available for Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. The updated maps include Tiffins Restaurant and Nomad Lounge in Discovery Island along with the Discovery Trading Company store.
It looks as though the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail in Africa has officially returned to its original name, Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail.
The new nighttime show “Jungle Book: Alive With Magic” shows its FastPass+ entrance in Asia and the standby entrance in DinoLand U.S.A.

It’s going to become a little harder and more time consuming to get to Disney’s water parks beginning Sunday, May 29th.
In order to get to Blizzard Beach Water Park, guests will first have to take a bus from their resort hotel over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and then hop on a different bus to Blizzard Beach.
Next to get to Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, guests will need to take a bus from their resort hotel heading to Disney Springs first and the water park will be the second stop. After 1pm you might have to transfer to another bus in Disney Springs if your bus is not making the 2nd stop at Typhoon Lagoon. Ask your bus driver if that is the case.
As always check with the front desk of your hotel to find out full transportation details before you go.

Anna, Elsa and their “Frozen” friends will welcome guests aboard the new Frozen Ever After boat ride that sails into a “Frozen” world at the Norway Pavilion starting June 21. In Future World, guests will celebrate the U.S. debut of the expanded Soarin’ Around the World attraction at The Land Pavilion on June 17. Now with a third Epcot theater, plus new digital screens and projection systems, the enhanced attraction takes guests on an exhilarating “flight” above spectacular global landscapes and man-made wonders.
Guests can now find new additions at “Turtle Talk with Crush” with characters from Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory”. When Crush the sea turtle swims up to the “Human Tank” at Epcot, he’ll be joined by Dory and some of her new friends that guests will get to know better when “Finding Dory” swims into theaters on June 17, 2016.
Magic Kingdom
Classic Disney characters will join contemporary animated film stars beginning June 17 in a new extravaganza on the grand Cinderella Castle stage, and Magic Kingdom guests can experience a new dining adventure.
For the first time, Tiana of “Princess and the Frog,” and Rapunzel of “Tangled,” co-star with Anna and Elsa of “Frozen,” and a host of favorite Disney characters in the new Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire. Performed on the grandest stage in the kingdom, the star-studded tale of friendship presents Mickey Mouse and his troupe of Merry Makers – Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck and Goofy – who invite 10 new friends from different animated worlds to join the celebration. This “timeless fairytale” of a show combines grand dance, fireworks and stunts with memorable music, an original song and special effects.
Disney Parks will welcome Elena of Avalor, Disney’s first princess inspired by diverse Latin cultures. Elena of Avalor will appear at Walt Disney World Resort later this summer and at Disneyland Resort in the fall, following her television debut in a new animated series this summer on Disney Channel.
Next door to the legendary Jungle Cruise, guests can enjoy the bold flavors of “World Famous Jungle Cuisine” served by the wisecracking crew of the new Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen. It’s the first Disney full-service restaurant themed after a specific park attraction.

First Order Stormtroopers led by Captain Phasma march from Star Wars Launch Bay to the park’s Center Stage, adding menace to the entertainment. Star Wars Launch Bay showcases large-scale artifacts and encounters with characters including Kylo Ren. The re-imagined Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple experience also features new characters. And at Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, guests buckle up for an enhanced high-speed journey with new Star Wars: TheForce Awakens characters and a visit to Jakku.
Disney Springs and Water Parks Make a Splash
Inspired by Florida’s waterfront towns and natural beauty, Disney Springs is a charming district filled with unique retailers and restaurants from award-winning chefs. Throughout the summer, new stores and restaurants will open as Disney Springs more than doubles the number of retail, dining and other venues for guests.
As Disney Springs continues to expand and diversify its dining, shopping and entertainment, more exciting high-profile tenants are coming onboard, including Anthropologie, Under Armour, kate spade new york, Sephora and Lucky Brand, among others. Other new shops opening in 2016 include Zara, Tommy Bahama, Lilly Pulitzer, UNIQLO and PANDORA.
More than 30 new tenants will be coming to Disney Springs this summer, including retail shops and dining venues.
Home to world-class dining, Disney Springs is shaping up to be a culinary dream. With its chic style and Pan-Asian flavors, Morimoto Asia offers just a taste of what’s to come as more new eateries are gearing up to open in the coming year, including Tablas Frontera by Chef Rick Bayless; Homecoming – Florida Kitchen and Shine Bar by Chef Art Smith; STK Orlando, a modern steakhouse with the ambience of a sleek lounge; Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza, a modern-day “pizza joint” with artisanal pies; and the reimagined, Planet Hollywood Observatory with new outdoor terrace and live entertainment.
Celebrity Chef Rick Bayless and Chef Art Smith join master Chef Masaharu Morimoto in a growing collection of James Beard Award winning chefs at Disney Springs.
At Cirque du Soleil’s “La Nouba,” the new B-Boys hip-hop, breakdancing threesome showcases a rare mix of rhythm, strength and “how-did-they-do-that?” moves. As part of the show’s ongoing evolution, the masterful Aerial Bamboo act joins recent additions of madcap clowns and a breathtaking rolla bolla juggling act.
Meanwhile, Disney’s Water Parks ramp up with playful spirits and summer fun faster than Olaf can beg for warm hugs.
At Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park, Olaf from Disney’s animated hit “Frozen,” will be living his “In Summer” dream as he and Kristoff host The “Frozen Games” of friendly, fun competitions that begin May 27 and run through Aug. 21.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park castaways can splash down on a sandy summer beach with a cold ale and savory snack after a wild slide on Crush ‘n’ Gusher water coaster.

Announced recently was that Pixar Animation, Walt Disney Studios, and Disney Parks have declared June 11th Speak Like a Whale Day! In “Finding Nemo”, audiences got to get a taste of the many languages of whale that Dory is fluent in. Now, with our favorite Blue Tang fish getting her own movie on June 17th, it’s time to celebrate and pay homage to the language of whale! Voice actors Kaitlin Olsen (Destiny) and Ty Burrell (Bailey) are already practicing their whale speaking skills:
Disney and Pixar are creating lots of ways that fans can celebrate Speak Like a Whale day in person:
At both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, as well as Disney Cruise Lines, guests will receive a complimentary commemeritve button, while supplies last.
These commemorative buttons will also be available at select Goodrich Quality, Marcus, Megaplex, and National Amusements movie theaters on June 11th
At Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort, and Disney Springs at WDW Resort, there will be lots of undersea themed activities, complete with games, prizes, and a DJ. Young marlins can also take part in “Whale Speak University.”
Guests at Epcot and Disney California Adventure can now see Destiny and Bailey, as well as Hank the Octopus alongside Crush at the Turtle Talk with Crush attractions.
At The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot will get the chance to learn about the real-life sea animals that inspired the characters of “Finding Dory”, and even get to see some at The Seas’ saltwater aquarium.
Even if you won’t be at the parks on June 11th, you can join in on the fun by uploading videos with the #SpeakLikeAWhaleDay . I can’t think of a better way to get ready for the premiere of “Finding Dory”!
