An unbeatable lineup of new attractions and experiences will debut this summer across all four Walt Disney World theme parks and beyond.

  • An awe-inspiring new Star Wars fireworks and projections spectacular premieres at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
  • Frozen,” the top animated film of all time, comes to life for the first time in an enchanting, music-filled attraction in the Norway pavilion at Epcot.
  • A flurry of fireflies awakens the iconic Tree of Life with colorful animation, just one of the many new experiences as Disney’s Animal Kingdom introduces evening hours for the first time in the park’s 18-year history.
  • Princesses Tiana and Rapunzel join a rousing show on the grandest stage of all in front of the Magic Kingdom castle.

Across its four theme parks, multiple resort hotels and diverse shopping and dining experiences, guests will find unforgettable experiences to share with family and friends, making every moment as magical as it can be.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

For the first time in its 18-year history, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will debut new day-into-nighttime experiences that celebrate the magic of nature.

  • The park’s iconic Tree of Life will awaken each night amid a lively celebration of Discovery Island music and dance. Through stunning visuals, animal spirits appear and enchanted fireflies reveal stories of wonder as the tree morphs to showcase the magic of nature.
  • Kilimanjaro Safaris transitions to a new nighttime adventure in the extended orange glow of a setting sun. For the first time, hyenas and African wild dogs join the safari trail creature feature.
  • Hungry adventurers can have lunch or dinner at the new Tiffins signature restaurant on Discovery Island this summer. Guests seated in the restaurant’s travel-themed dining rooms or on the waterfront patio can sip libations and savor dishes featuring African, Asian and South American flavors.
  • Across the park, guests can experience wondrous new nighttime experiences and entertainment celebrating marvels in nature and enjoy long-time favorites such as Expedition Everest, DINOSAUR, Kali River Rapids and more – in a whole new light.

Epcot

Anna, Elsa and other beloved characters from the blockbuster film, “Frozen,” will give the summer season a warm hug at Epcot and several other Disney parks. Meanwhile “Turtle Talk with Crush” makes fun waves and Soarin takes guests to new heights.

  • Anna, Elsa and their latest-generation Audio-Animatronics co-stars will welcome guests aboard the new Frozen Ever After boat ride that sails into a “Frozen” world at the Norway pavilion. Passengers on their way to Arendelle’s Winter in Summer Celebration for Queen Elsa visit the ice palace and hear beloved film tunes plus new lyrics by Oscar-winning “Let It Go” songwriters Bobby Lopez and Kristen Anderson.
  • Also at Norway pavilion, Anna and Elsa will greet guests in the new Royal Sommerhus, modeled after a traditional Norwegian cabin.
  • In Future World, guests will celebrate the U.S. debut of the new Soarin’ Around the World attraction at The Land pavilion this summer. Now with a third Epcot theater, plus new digital screens and projection systems, the expanded attraction takes guests on an exhilarating “flight” above spectacular global landscapes and man-made wonders.
  • Guests will also find new additions at “Turtle Talk with Crush” beginning in early-May with characters from Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory”. When Crush the sea turtle swims up to the “Human Tank” at Epcot, he’ll be joined by Dory and some of her new friends that guests will get to know when “Finding Dory” swims into theaters on June 17, 2016.

Magic Kingdom

Classic Disney characters will join contemporary animated film stars this June in a new extravaganza on the grand Cinderella Castle stage, and Magic Kingdom guests can experience a new dining adventure.

  • For the first time, modern Disney characters Tiana of “Princess and the Frog,” and Rapunzel of “Tangled,” co-star with Anna and Elsa of “Frozen,” and a host of classic characters in the new Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire. Performed on the grandest stage in the kingdom, the star-studded tale of friendship presents Mickey Mouse and his troupe of Merry Makers – Minnie Mouse, Donald, Daisy and Goofy – who invite 10 new friends from different animated worlds to join the celebration. This “timeless fairytale” of a show combines grand dance, fireworks and stunts with memorable music, an original song and special effects.
  • Next door to the legendary Jungle Cruise, guests can enjoy the bold flavors of “World Famous Jungle Cuisine” served by the wisecracking crew of the new Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen. It’s the first Disney full-service restaurant themed after a specific park attraction.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

In the galactic wake of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, new Star-Wars-themed experiences shift into light speed.

  • The next generation of Star Wars-themed fireworks shows, “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular,” will premiere this summer with new themed fireworks, lasers, special effects and video projections of iconic characters and scenes from the complete saga, all set to the iconic score of the film series.
  • The live stage show “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away” debuted April 4, celebrating iconic moments from the Star Wars saga with live vignettes featuring popular characters such as BB-8, Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, Darth Vader, and Darth Maul.
  • The March of the First Order Stormtrooper procession led by Captain Phasma from the Star Wars Launch Bay to the park’s Center Stage adds menace to the entertainment. The just-opened Star Wars Launch Bay showcases large-scale artifacts and encounters with characters including Kylo Ren. The re-imagined Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple experience also features new characters. And at Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, guests buckle up for an enhanced high-speed journey with new Star Wars: The Force Awakens characters and a visit to Jakku.
  • In the park’s Hyperion Theater, the Royal Historians of Arendelle host a jolly sing-along tale of their “Frozen” kingdom with special appearances by Anna, Elsa and Kristoff. And at Celebrity Spotlight, guests can meet Olaf and give him a warm hug.

Disney Springs and Water Parks Make a Splash

Disney guests will spend their first summer at Disney Springs as it continues to double its shopping and dining offerings and near completion on the largest expansion in its history. Disney Springs is a one-of-a-kind retail, dining and entertainment experience brought to life with the same focus on storytelling and attention to detail that goes into Disney theme parks, resorts and cruise ships. Inspired by Florida’s waterfront towns and natural beauty, this charming waterfront district, comprising The Landing, Marketplace and West Side, expands to debut its fourth neighborhood, Town Center, next month — adding more shops, restaurants and architectural detail than ever.

  • As Disney Springs continues to expand and diversify its dining, shopping and entertainment, more exciting high-profile tenants are coming onboard, including Anthropologie, Under Armour, kate spade, Sephora and Lucky Brand, among others. Other new shops opening in 2016 include: Zara, Tommy Bahama, Lilly Pulitzer, UNIQLO, PANDORA, UGG, L’Occitane en Provence and Edward Beiner.
  • A total of 32 new tenants will be coming to Disney Springs this summer, including 29 retail shops and three new dining venues.
  • Morimoto Asia just celebrated its grand opening and more new eateries are firing up the scene in 2016 including the upscale STK steakhouse with the only rooftop dining in Disney Springs; The Edison, a lavish, “industrial Gothic”-style restaurant, bar and nighttime destination; Sprinkles, the world’s first cupcake bakery; Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza, a modern-day “pizza joint” with artisanal pies; and the reimagined, star-themed Planet Hollywood with new outdoor terrace and live entertainment.
  • Celebrity Chef Rick Bayless and renowned Chef Wolfgang Puck join master Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s in a growing collection of James Beard Award winning chefs at Disney Springs.
  • At Cirque du Soleil’s “La Nouba,” the new B-Boys hip-hop, breakdancing threesome showcase a rare mix of rhythm, strength and “how-did-they-do-that?” moves. As part of the show’s ongoing evolution, the masterful Aerial Bamboo act joins recent additions of madcap clowns and a breathtaking rolla bolla juggling act.

Meanwhile, Disney’s Water Parks will ramp up with playful spirits and summer fun faster than Olaf can beg for warm hugs.

  • At Blizzard Beach, Olaf from Disney’s animated hit “Frozen,” will be living his “In Summer” dream as he and Kristoff host The Frozen Games at Blizzard Beach of friendly, fun competitions.
  • Typhoon Lagoon castaways can splash down on a sandy summer beach with a cold ale and savory snack after a wild slide on Crush ‘n’ Gusher water coaster.

Disney guests will have a blockbuster summer wherever they play, dine, relax or celebrate at Walt Disney World theme parks, entertainment venues and resort hotels. For more information about Walt Disney World Resort or to book your next holiday drop me an email at [email protected] or get in touch via Facebook.

5 Ways You Can Save For Your Next Disney World Vacation

photos CastleNight

If you’ve decided a Walt Disney World vacation is something you definitely see in your immediate (or even not so immediate) future, then one thing you’ll want to get started on right away is SAVING for it! Not sure where to begin or how you can save for a trip to The Happiest Place On Earth?

Then read on for 5 ways you can save for your Disney World Vacation:

Setup An Automatic Transfer: Get Savvy with your online banking by setting up an automatic transfer to a separate account that is just for your “vacation fund” – even just a small amount like $5 a week won’t be missed in your day to day budget, but will make a huge difference when it comes to paying off your vacation – that’s $260 a year alone! I set mine up to transfer each payday, and it goes right to a separate savings account from checking – and it’s the perfect way to start saving for Disney

Use Your Tax Refund: By now most of us have already filed our taxes, and some of us might be lucky enough to be getting money back. While there are plenty of ways to spend that money, one of the best ways is to use it to put down a deposit or pay off part (or all!) of your Disney vacation. My husband and I purposely have extra taken out so we can ensure we get at least SOME kind of refund each year, and that makes this the perfect time to book another Disney trip and put some of that tax money to good use

The Disney Gift Card: In case you didn’t know, you can pay off some (or all!) of your Disney trip using gift cards – so next time someone asks what you want for your Birthday or Christmas, instead of struggling to come up with an answer – simply tell them A DISNEY GIFT CARD! They can be purchased almost anywhere – including online or at most grocery stores with a gift card center (which is basically all of them), and they make a perfect gift for you or the Disney Lover in your life. They can be used to pay off the trip, or to pay for things while at Disney, too! They also make a great reward system – create a chore chart for your little ones with Disney gift cards as the prize and they will earn their own trip spending money in no time

Buy Disney Gift Cards At A Discount: Most people I know have a membership to a club store like BJ’s or Sam’s Club, and places like also have gift card centers, where you can get Disney gift cards at a discount. While the discount is usually no more than 5%, that’s still a $100 savings off $2000 worth of Disney fun – and that’s worth it to me! Another way to get discount gift cards is through Target’s Red Card program – I finally broke down and got myself a debit Red card last year, and while the 5% savings may not seem like much, it adds up when you’re constantly there buying diapers, formula, food, toys….the list goes on. Might as well grab some Disney gift cards while you’re at it – 5% makes a difference!

The Disney Chase Visa Card: This is a credit card that offers you $1 in “Disney Reward Dollars” for every $100 that you spend on the card. I use mine for all larger purchases, and also for gas and grocery shopping – and believe me – the reward dollars add up QUICKLY, and they can then be redeemed to a card that can be used like a gift card. I like to save my rewards dollars for Park souvenirs, and it has really been beneficial to me and my family. ALSO – they sometimes have bonuses for signing up/applying for the card, so keep your eye out for that if this is something you are considering

Now, I don’t want to make it seem like I am suggesting everyone run out and apply for credit or debit cards or go buy a BJ’s or Sam’s Club membership – but I will be honest with you – there are some BIG benefits to these for Disney Lovers! These happened to be things I already had/was already doing, so it really didn’t “cost” me anything up front to start saving for my next Disney trip

Once you’ve booked your next trip, I hope you are able to use these tips to your advantage! You should also hit up the dollar store for even more savings on Disney trip essentials – read more about that here. And be sure you check out my Disney Planning Do’s And Don’t’s for even more tips for ensuring your Disney trip is the best ever!

James Cameron is Making Four Avatar Sequels

Today “Avatar” director James Cameron announced that there will be four “Avatar” sequels, five movies in total. “Avatar 2” is expected to hit theaters by 2018, the dates for the other three films aren’t officially set but tentatively will be 2020, 2022, and 2023.

Cameron said about this ambitious undertaking, “We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic process. I’ve been working the last couple of years with a team of four top screenwriters to design the world of Avatar going forward: The characters, the creatures, the environment, the new cultures. So far, the art I’m seeing, is in pure imagination, really far beyond the first film. It’s going to be a true epic saga.”

This is exciting news not only for fans of the movie, but also for Disney park-goers. Announced at last year’s D23, is the plan for a 2017 opening date of an Avatar-themed land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort. It will be called Pandora: The World of Avatar.

With so many new “Avatar” movies now on the horizon, it seems like the new land at Animal Kingdom will follow Walt’s dream that his parks will “never be finished”, always changing and having new additions.

Box Office Numbers of The Jungle Book Exceeds Expectations

THE JUNGLE BOOK - (L-R) MOWGLI and BAGHEERA. ©2015 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

The much-anticipated Disney live-action version of “The Jungle Book” was released this weekend. Last year Disney released their first movie that is part of their long list of live-action fairy tale movies, “Cinderella”, which was incredibly successful critically and in the box office.

With much to live up to, “The Jungle Book” delivered, taking the number 1 spot in the weekend box office. The movie made $32.4 million just on Friday alone, and at that point was projected to make about $90 million for the weekend. However, “The Jungle Book” exceeded the projections, grossing a whopping $103.6 million for its opening weekend, one of the highest April openings of all time.

This movie is definitely a success, beating out the domestic opening weekend numbers of last year’s “Cinderella”, which had a $70 million debut. Prior to the U.S.’s opening weekend of “The Jungle Book”, the film had brought in $136.1 million overseas.

After such financial success and the reviews praising the film (you can read ours here), it’s no wonder that director Jon Favreau is already in talks with Walt Disney Studios to do a sequel!

Hong Kong Disneyland cuts staffing and suffers first loss in 5 years!

Hong Kong Disneyland recently had to cut jobs due to its first loss in four years. In the year that ending in early October Disneyland posted a loss of HK$148 million ($19 million). This is the first loss since 2011, which is mostly due to a weaker economy on mainland China and politician uproar in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Disneyland attendance fell 9% to 6.8 million guests in 2015 since last year.

Hong Kong Disneyland employed more than 5,300 full timers and 2,500 part timers last year however had to let close to 100 people go due to the loss. On Friday Disney said they have to evaluate operational needs from time to time and in a statement:

“It is important for the company to maintain a solid foundation for sustainable, long-term growth. We regularly make operational adjustments to ensure we deliver great guest and cast experiences in the most efficient way possible, in order to pave the way for future development.”

However this loss has not stopped the company from investing in the new attractions such as Iron Man Experience which is set to open in May of 2016 and the third hotel, Explorer Lodge which is expected to open in June 2017.

It seems as though Hong Kong Disneyland’s biggest competition will most likely come from Disney itself as the first mainland China Disney theme park, Shanghai Disney will be opening in June. This park will not only be newer but three times the size of the one currently in Hong Kong.

How do you think Shanghai Disney opening will effect Hong Kong Disneyland? Comment below!

Disney changes the Tonga Toast Recipe

It is being reported that Disney has recently changed the bread in the Tonga Toast and Disney Addicts are not happy!

If you have never had the chance to try the Tonga Toast from the Kona Cafe or Captain Cooks in the Polynesian Resort you don’t know what you are missing! Tonga Toast is thick-cut Sourdough Bread stuffed with bananas before being deep fried and rolled in Cinnamon Sugar. I highlighted Sourdough Bread as that is the main ingredient of the dish…

TT

Recently Disney has opted out of using the Sourdough bread in a cost cutting measure and is now using a French Bread from a new bread supplier. Many fans online do not like the change and say it changes the overall texture, taste, and consistency of the dish.

No word on if Disney plans on going back to Sourdough bread but like when Disney made a change years ago with the bread pudding at ‘Ohana fan outcry forced Disney to change it back.

If you want to attempt to make your own Tonga Toast at home check out our recipe here, just make sure to use Sourdough Bread 😉

Keep Cool at Walt Disney World with these 8 tips

0615ZY 0311MS 742x494 600x399 1
0615ZY 0311MS 742x494 600x399 1

Keepin' cool at the Magic Kingdom!

Disney World is sunny and warm. Very warm. Extremely warm for many months of the year. And that sun is BRIGHT! As great as that sounds for those of us who are just coming out of winter, there is a downside. Here are a few tips to keep you comfortable, hydrated, and cool when visiting Walt Disney World, the happiest place on Earth.

  • Dress in light, breathable fabrics that will dry quickly if you get wet (or sweat). Stay away from jeans, spandex or heavy fabrics. Dressing in layers is a great idea, also – many attractions and restaurants are located in air conditioned building and they can get quite cool. A light jacket or sweater that you can tie around your waist or stuff into a bag or stroller compartment is ideal.
  • Sunglasses. Protect your eyes with sunglasses with UV protection. I usually pick of 3 or 4 cheap pairs of sunglasses before I travel – if I lose them (and I probably will) I’m not out too much money and I don’t feel like I have to backtrack and search for them.
  • Drink water. Staying hydrated is key! If you only take one piece of advice from this article, then this is the most important one to follow. Bring a water bottle with you to refill throughout the day to save a little money. Remember, you can visit any counter-service restaurant for a free cup of ice. I like to bring a wide-mouth bottle or my resort refillable mug so I can pour the ice in and let it melt for a continuously cool drink throughout the day.
  • Eat light during the day. A heavy breakfast or lunch will weigh you down and make you sleepy and sluggish – and who wants to drag their way through the Magic Kingdom!?! For breakfast, consider fruit and yogurt. For lunch, a salad is ideal! If greens aren’t your thing, a turkey sandwich or grilled chicken will give you plenty of protein without weighing you down. Want something a little more adventurous? Then try the tacos at La Cantina de San Angel (EPCOT, Mexico pavilion), the Vegetarian Plate at Tangerine Café (EPCOT, Morocco pavilion), or grilled salmon with cous cous and green beans (Magic Kingdom, Columbia Harbor House). Avoid eating too many fried foods or red meats, unless you plan on taking an afternoon nap.
  • Take a break! It’s hot. You’re sweaty. You’re tired. By all means, rest. If you need just need a quick cool-down, then take in a show in an inside theatre. Attractions that are great for a 10-15 minutes (or longer) rest include Carousel of Progress, Philharmagic, Country Bear Jamboree and The Enchanted Tiki Birds.  If this kids are getting hot but don’t want to sit down for a show, head over to Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak in the Fantasyland area of the Magic Kingdom (pictured above).
  • Have a cool snack. You have my permission to eat ice cream before dinner! Seriously, is there anything better than a Mickey ear ice cream bar or a Dole whip in the afternoon? Minute Maid Frozen Lemonade or Frozen Strawberry Lemonade, fresh fruit, or strawberry shortcake from Sunshine Seasons in the Land pavilion at EPCOT are other great choices.
  • Wear sunscreen and Mickey Ears (or a hat). The Florida sun is intense – not just in summer, but year round. Make sure to use plenty of sunscreen. Also, wear your Mickey Ears (or a hat) to protect your scalp from those rays. The thing about a burnt scalp is that you won’t know you have one until you shampoo your hair the next day and it feels like your head is on fire. It’s much better to prevent burns with a hat than try to treat them later.  However, if you do suffer any sunburns, treat them with an aloe vera-based skin cream or other lotion for mild burns. If you notice any blistering or if you begin to feel ill or run a fever, visit a first aid station or an urgent care clinic right away. Guest services can direct you to the nearest location.
  • Take a dip!  An afternoon swim?  Yes, please!  When the sun is too much to take, head back to your resort to take a dip in the pool.  You’ll feel completely refreshed and ready to head back to the parks for a fun evening.  Better yet, head over to Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach for some serious fun in the sun!

But don’t let the sun and heat scare you off from having a great vacation at Walt Disney World! Contact me any time to plan your next Disney vacation at [email protected].
