Disney World closes all beaches while workers search for missing child

Earlier it was reported that all boat transportation to the Magic Kingdom has been suspended while officials look for the missing 2 year old that was attacked by an alligator late last night.

Now it is being reported that Disney has officially closed all the beaches at Walt Disney World.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Nick Wiley said the FWC has already euthanized four gators in this body of water. However, they don’t believe those gators are the one responsible for taking the young child.

Wiley said during the press conference that it’s very rare for alligators to attack people. According to a FWC statistics report, nine people have been attacked by alligators since 2015. And between 1948 to April 2016, a total of 383 attacks have been recorded by the FWC.

According to My News 13:

Some 50 law enforcement personnel are on the scene, including marine units. Florida Fish and Wildlife is also bringing in extra officers to help. Helicopters are searching the lake, sonar equipment is being used and dive teams are on standby.

“We are not leaving until we find the child,” said Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings. “We are out actively searching the lake. We have two of our marine units that are on the lake searching for the child. In addition, we will be working with the Fish and Wildlife Commission to continue these efforts for the next several hours.”

A Disney spokesperson said they are doing everything to help and comfort the family at this time. “Everyone here at the Walt Disney World Resort is devastated by this tragic accident.”

In the wake of the horrifying shooting at the Orlando night club Pulse fans have created an event which is being advertised on Facebook. The event will take place in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom on Saturday at 11:30pm.

Event goers are set to meet at the Partner’s statue which is the figure of Walt Disney holding Mickey Mouse’s hand near the base of Cinderella’s Castle. The Walt Disney Company has no involvement in the event in which people will gather “to show our love and support” to all the lives lost.

The event says there will be a “Special Kiss Goodnight,” and “All are welcome. #OrlandoStrong,”

Park admission is required to attend the free fan created event.

Disney cast member Jerald Arthur Wright, 31, who was a seasonal employee in a shop along Main Street was among the 49 people killed on Sunday.

Universal Studios had a tribute of their own on Monday night, where people gathered at Hogwarts castle in Universal’s Islands of Adventure to pay respect to team member Luis Vielma and former employee Xavier Serrano both who lost their lives early Sunday morning.

Boat Service to the Magic Kingdom suspended

Reports are coming in that boat service to the Magic Kingdom has been suspended while officials continue to search for the missing child that was attacked last night by an alligator in the Seven Seas Lagoon.

The only transportation to the Magic Kingdom are buses and the monorail.

You can expect delays if you are trying to get to or from the Magic Kingdom.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the missing 2 year old who are still looking for their child.

Update on child who was taken by alligator at Disney’s Grand Floridan Resort

ALLIGATOR

As of 8:00am this morning Police officials are still looking for the 2 year old boy who was taken by an large alligator around 9:30pm last night at Disney’s Grand Floridan Resort.

A press conference was held earlier this morning:

The Orange County Sheriff Department stated that the Nebraska family of five was relaxing on the shoreline just before Wishes. According to WESH the father and son were wading in a foot of water when the alligator attacked the boy. The father of the child entered the water and tried to wrestle the child away from the alligator, but he was unsuccessful. He was left with minor scratches on his hands following the encounter.

The parents of the boy notified cast members immediately and the Police were called.

Orange County authorities said over 50 people, including helicopters and marine units, were involved in the overnight search and about the same number of people would continue the search Wednesday.

Vice President of Walt Disney World Resort Jacquee Wahler made the following statement:

“Everyone here at the Walt Disney World Resort is devastated by this tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the family,” he said. “We are helping the family and doing everything we can to assist law enforcement.”

Finding Dory Press Conference – Part 1

IMG_1797

The next day after seeing a screening of “Finding Dory“, I got to go to the beautiful Montage Beverly Hills Hotel for some more Dory fun! It was an afternoon of press conferences with some of the film’s cast and crew, having in-depth conversations about their character work and behind-the-scenes experiences.

First up was director Andrew Stanton, director of many Pixar hits, and also the voice of crush. He spoke alongside producer Lindsey Collins.

Stanton explained that although “Finding Nemo” was such a success, the reason why there is a thirteen year lapse between “Nemo” and “Finding Dory” was because he didn’t think a sequel was ever happening, it wasn’t in the forefront of his mind to make. Since a film of this nature typically takes about 4 years, and that is a huge time lapse for a fish, it wasn’t on the docket to make a second movie.

A few years ago, however, he realized he felt horrified that he left audiences not knowing what happened to Dory. Having short term memory loss in the big, wide ocean can be a scary thing. He wanted to tell her story so that audiences knew how she was doing; how she was even blossoming.

IMG_1799

When he came up with the idea to center around Dory, he knew that he wanted the story to involve Dory succeeding on her own completely. Stanton felt having her be able to succeed and accomplish big hurdles on her own was imperative in order to have Dory accept herself, short term memory loss and all. Collins elaborated on this, saying they wanted Dory to have the ability to grant herself the amount of grace and acceptance she grants everyone around her.

IMG_6011

The first film took place in the waters around Australia. Stanton talked about how this time around, the setting is the California coast. Since the first movie, he wanted to include kelp beds in their story’s setting. Not only because they are visually stunning and very unique habitats, but also because he felt like kelp beds looked like an underwater forest. Stanton liked the idea of having an underwater fairy tale that has kelp bed scenes to mimic the classic fairy tale with a forest setting.

In addition to the film’s exciting new setting, there are also many new characters: Hank, Bailey, Destiny, to name a few. Stanton and Collins felt very satisfied with the cast, feeling like everyone slipped into their roles perfectly (not to mention, everyone who they cast was also their first choice in voice actor).

Although the new settings and characters are fun to explore, this film is ultimately answering questions about Dory, as well as working to have her character grow. Collins loves how this movie allowed them the opportunity to explain the questions we have about Dory’s past (I.e. How does she know how to speak whale?). Stanton had an incredible time diving into the layers of our favorite blue tang, discovering alongside the writers and cast, Dory’s personality, flaws, emotions, and her family.

Bold and Colorful Pop Art Disney Giclees

Disney giclees

I truly love bold pop art, especially when it gives an artistic spin to some of my favorites. These brilliant Disney Giclees ArtByLPrentice on Etsy, are a fabulous combination of Pop Art and Disney.

These gorgeous prints are created with original art. They feature cell shaded style designs with classic Disney characters and Park Icons. The Disney Giclees come printed on enhanced matte, 192 gsm, 10.3 mil art paper, for longevity and quality. The designs are open editions, so you won’t have to worry about not being able to find your favorite piece. I also love how all of them have similar hues and tones, so they would make incredible mix and match pieces for decorating any room. I’m obsessing over the Fire Brigade print because my son loves Mickey and Fire Trucks, so I think he’d love that one for his bedroom. There are so many designs from characters, to Park monuments, even park attractions, be sure to check them out!

What do you think of these enchanting pop art Disney Giclees?

Bay Lake Tower Valet Parking being tested for Disney Vacation Club Villas

13461015_1450687961608786_1619635207_o

It seems that Disney is testing out a new parking option for guests staying at the Disney Vacation Club Villas at Bay Lake Tower: valet parking. WDW News Today reports that the valet has been set up and signs are out for the new service, directly outside the entrance to Bay Lake Tower. In related news, there is also a rumor that Disney’s Magical Express may soon start dropping guests off at the Bay Lake Tower entrance, instead of at the main entrance for The Contemporary. It seems that Bay Lake Tower guests have found the walk to the main lobby a bit of an inconvenience, so this must be Disney’s way of working on the issue to make guests happy.

What do you think of the new service? If you stay at Bay Lake Tower will you take advantage of it?

Disney Cast Member shares a bit of Disney Magic with Family Visiting from the UK

WH_10x20 storyboard_3 image horiz_basics_blog

In the wake of all the bad news in the world, and all the guests complaining about this, that, and the other thing that didn’t go right during their Disney vacation, it’s nice to see a heartwarming post of appreciation for Disney Magic once in a while.

The Speller family is currently visiting Walt Disney World from the UK, and Mark Speller recently posted about a wonderful experience they just had with a Cast Member:

My family and I were on holiday in Florida and today we went to Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

One of the Disney park employees found us the perfect spot to watch the Disney parade in the disabled section as my little girl is disabled. We said thank you to him and he bent down to our little girl (Courtney) and asked if she was having a good day and who her favorite characters are? With that he waved good bye and walked off. Just as the parade was about to start this employee returned with a bag in his hand and said to my daughter (Courtney) “Mickey Mouse wants you to have this”.
When my little girl opened the bag, to her amazement was a Mickey & Mini Mouse cuddly toy. We were all surprised and our little girl was bursting with joy. Once the parade had finished this employee returned again and asked my daughter if she had meet his BOSS. To our astonishment he had arranged for the whole family to meet the one and only Mickey Mouse. The employees name is Gerard. We want this post shared because Gerard didn’t know that our little girl (Courtney) is going blind due to a rare genetic condition called Choen syndrome. ….
Gerard, not only did you touch our hearts with your kindness and compassion you have created a memory for our daughter that will last a life time. Thank you.

I sure hope the Speller Family continues to have a magical vacation for the remainder of their time at Walt Disney World. Isn’t Disney Magic wonderful??

Top Disney World Souvenirs For Kids

yeti

yeti

The struggle is real – to find the kids a souvenir that they like, you like, and isn’t absurdly expensive can seem near impossible, and add in that it ideally should be something they can actually get some practical use out of – well, forget it, right? WRONG! If you plan ahead and look around, you’ll see that there are plenty of great, useful things you can purchase for your kids at Walt Disney World.

So read on for my top picks for Disney World Souvenirs for kids:

Pens/Pencils: The classic Mickey head shaped pen is a great small, inexpensive souvenir that they can bring back to school with them, and they come in tons of styles (and pencil versions too!). Disney also makes sets of nicer pens/pencils, as well as packs of colored pencils, crayons, markers, etc – perfect for your little artist. Another good choice to go along with those is a notebook/journal or Disney coloring book – I always loved having a journal to write/sketch in, and well – you’re NEVER too old to color, in my opinion!

Dining/Dinnerware: Every kid has to eat, right? So serve up those chicken nuggets and mac and cheese at home in style – with a Disney cute bowl or plate. Even my son (who is only 18 months old!) recognizes when one of his favorite characters is on his dinner plate or cup, so these are good for kids of all ages. A reusable water bottle is also a really useful souvenir – and the Parks offer them in a variety of styles/characters.

Deck Of Cards/Board Game: Normally anything that falls into the “toy” category is tricky when it comes to the question of “will they actually USE it at home?” – but there are a few toys that might actually get some use by the kids, and the adults too! Disney has several different styles of decks of cards for sale (including awesome haunted mansion themed ones, and star wars ones too!), and they sell some great Disney themed games too – like Tower of Terror Jenga, Haunted Mansion life, Disney Candyland, Muppets Yahtzee, assorted jigsaw puzzles, and more. I personally LOVE a good family game night – so these are all things that me and my family would get a ton of use out of.

A Bag: No matter what age, there’s always plenty of STUFF that kids need when you take them places – so why not buy them their very own Disney backpack or suitcase? There are tons of options to choose from, and they will get such a thrill out of having something as adult as their very own suitcase! And backpacks come in handy all the time – school, camp, weekend at Grandma’s – the possibilities are endless, and it’s definitely something they will get a lot of use out of.

There are some souvenirs I tend to steer the kids away from – including glow sticks/light up toys, those fans that you fill with water and can mist yourself with (cool when you’re in Florida, but not so useful at home), large stuffed animals, small ones are ok, and costume/dress up items – as they tend to be VERY expensive at the Parks, and if they want them badly enough, you can usually find them online for cheaper.

Hopefully you find this list helpful and keep these suggestions in the back of your mind when heading to Walt Disney World – they can help you save precious suitcase space, and money too!
