Disney Announces Epcot International Food and Wine Festival Celebrity Chefs and the Expansion of the Festival into the Resorts

Food

Food

If you’ve been anxiously awaiting more details for the 2016 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, then you’ll be excited to hear that Disney announced today the lineup of celebrity chefs who will cook and entertain throughout the 62-day Festival — Geoffrey Zakarian, Maneet Chauhan, Duff Goldman, Elliott Farmer, Masaharu Morimoto and Graham Elliot are the newcomers for 2016, joining longtime favorites including Robert Irvine, Cat Cora, Norman Van Aken, Elizabeth Falkner, Buddy Valastro and Jamie Deen. And, yes, ABC’s “The Chew” is back for a week of taping their Emmy Award-winning show!

For the very first time, Disney is expanding the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival experience to some of the Walt Disney World Resorts with the following new events:

  • “Brunch with a Twist at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa” — a sumptuous 5-star, 5-course meal prepared by the resort’s award-winning chefs
  • “The Secrets of Flavor at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort” — a three-course lunch that gives guests a ‘sensory-food connection’ at Yachtsman Steakhouse
  • “Culinary Adventures with a Master Chef” at Disney’s Contemporary Resort — a hands-on chef’s table experience in a professional working kitchen
  • “Behind the Scenes at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto” at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort — an entertaining tour of the whimsical Trader Sam’s, followed by lunch and a special mixology session

And with 39 new or re-imagined marketplace dishes and 47 new cocktails, beers, wines and ciders on the menu for this year’s festival, there will be a lot to choose from. Here are a few favorite new dishes from some of the more than 30 Festival Marketplaces that Epcot guests can experience this fall: elegant seared scallop with truffled celery root puree, Brussels sprouts and mushrooms at Wine & Dine Studio; the mojo pork with black beans and rice at Islands of the Caribbean (and the divine quesitos are there too!); loaded Greek “nachos” at the Greece Marketplace, and our favorite: peanut butter and white chocolate mousse from The Chew Collective.

Disney Collars

As Disney Addicts we love to wear Disney gear, but what about our pets? They need Disney gear too! For those looking for a unique Disney design the collars from fairytailcollars on Etsy are paw-some!

Fairy Tail Collars came about when the mother (Susan) and daughter (Elizabeth) team each adopted a dog from the local county shelter. Both dogs needed new collars and neither could find exactly what they were looking for. The daughter knowing the mother’s wonderful knowledge at sewing, encouraged her to create collars for their new pups. Soon family and friends began asking for the collars, and their shop was born! They make these Disney Collars with a heavy duty nylon webbing, custom nickle hardware and of course delightful Disney ribbon! Disney themed collars are the perfect way for you to share a little Disney magic with your favorite 4 legged friends. You can also get a leash in a complimenting color from this shop as well. Check out some of the fabulous choices below:

Would your favorite pet wear one of these fun Disney collars?

Top 5 reasons to stay “On Site” at Walt Disney World

AofASebastian

I have always been a big fan of staying at Walt Disney World’s on site Resorts – for MANY reasons. If you’re planning a WDW trip and you aren’t sure if you want to stay on site or off site, maybe these Top 5 reasons to stay “On Site” at Walt Disney World will help sway you:

Magical Express: Disney provides free shuttle service from the Orlando airport to all WDW Resort Hotels – and they will even grab your luggage from baggage claim for you and bring it to your room! Return service is also provided, and they can help with checking bags when you are headed back home, too. In my opinion, this is one of the best perks of staying at a WDW Resort – as it eliminates the following questions: “should we rent a car? How will we get to the hotel? Where is baggage claim? Where are our bags?, etc – you get the idea. It just is one less thing to have to worry about, plus you get to start the “Disney experience” early – at the airport, when you reach the Magical Express desk and there’s a smiling Disney cast member waiting to greet you – you can let out a sigh of relief and let the Mouse take it from there!

Top Notch Service: I mentioned that smiling cast member who greets you at the Magical Express – well – that’s just the beginning. WDW Resort employees are amazing – polite, efficient, knowledgeable, and they will really go above and beyond to make sure your stay is as magical as possible. They are always there with a smile and a helping hand, and it honestly might seem like this is impossible – you’re probably thinking “can people be THAT helpful/happy all the time?” and the answer is YES – they can, and they are. They can answer almost any question you have, and if they don’t know the answer – they will make sure they find you the person that does. The smiles on their faces really make a difference in helping you feel relaxed and happy – which you should be, since you’re on vacation (you deserve it!)

Resort Food RULES: Each WDW Resort has on-site dining available, and we aren’t talking just some lame continental breakfast either. Freshly prepared hot meals using only the best ingredients is what you will find at these dining spots. All Resorts have some sort of “Quick Dining” location – where you can grab both fresh and pre-packaged snacks/meals, and many Resorts also offer a variety of sit down restaurants too – seafood, steak, sushi, burgers & sandwiches, pasta – there’s something for everyone, and the beauty of it is that you don’t even have to leave your hotel to get it

Extra Magic Hours: Each day, one of the 4 Walt Disney World theme parks opens one hour early or remains open up to 2 hours after regular closing time – and the best part is, only people who stay at WDW Resort Hotels are allowed to take advantage of these extra park hours. So that means shorter lines and fewer crowds for you early birds (or night owls), and the chance to experience more rides (some twice or more in a row if you’re lucky!) and attractions. I have also gotten some pretty amazing pictures of Cinderella’s Castle thanks to Extra Magic Hours – it’s a great perk that’s definitely worth waking up early for

Being IN The Magic: There’s nothing quite like waking up and knowing that you’re IN WALT DISNEY WORLD – it’s just such a unique experience, and staying at a WDW hotel makes it just that much more special and magical! There’s transportation available at all WDW Resorts to all of the theme parks, water parks, and Disney Springs – most is bus transportation, but there are also boats and monorails at select Resorts. Some Resorts are even close enough that you can walk right to the Parks – can’t get much closer to the Mouse than that!

Hopefully these perks have helped convince you that staying at a Disney World Resort Hotel is the way to go – because who doesn’t want to make their vacation even better by staying right in the middle of all the action? I know I do!

The Amateurs Book Review!

The Amateurs book cover (1)

I was lucky enough to receive of copy of this novel via Disney Publishing and let me tell you it did not disappoint! If you’re a fan of Sara Shepard’s Pretty Little Liars series or her Lying Game series you will love this book. This book reminds me more of The Lying Game plot wise with the gossipy feel of a Pretty Little Liars novel. The novel focuses on five teens Seneca, Aerin, Brett, Maddy and Maddy’s younger stepsister who isn’t a main player but feels like it thanks to Sara’s incredible writing. These five teens come from completely different backgrounds but have one thing in common their love of solving mysteries. The biggest mystery of all the death of Aerin’s sister is right under their noses and this story captures their fight to find the truth about what happened to Helena.

The first thing that struck me about this novel is that it’s not for the faint of heart. This novel focuses on dark subject matter and death… lots of death, but if you’re a Sara Shepard fan you would expect nothing else! I recommend the book for high school age kids and older like myself or anyone who enjoys a captivating mystery. The book itself isn’t an incredibly long read but it is an incredibly interesting one. I am a fan of mysteries and always have been but I think if you’re new to the genre this might be a great book to pick up to try it out. The book is fast paced and interesting enough to keep new readers hooked.

As far as the plot I can’t say much as I am sworn to secrecy (not really but I don’t want to spoil it for readers) All I can say is the final five pages of this book will leave you reeling, as in oh my god how did I not see all this coming reeling and switching back to pages to see where you missed the obvious. If you’re like me and you love to try and figure out mysteries before you finish the book don’t even try you’ll never guess the surprise twist, but once you read it you won’t be able to contain your excitement for the next novel in the series as it sets up for an interesting second book. Everything is not what it seems in The Amateurs and the truth is way closer and more twisted than you could ever imagine.

Overall I give this novel a resounding A+ because it kept me on my toes the whole way through.

Print and eBook formats of The Amateurs are available for pre-order wherever books are sold.

Disney Pin Trading Etiquette, Guidelines & Hidden Mickey Pins

Pin

Pin

Disney Pin Trading Etiquette

  • The main criteria to judge whether a pin is tradable or not is that it must be a metal pin bearing a “©Disney”mark on the back that represents a Disney Event, Place or Location, Character or Icon.
  • Pins should be in good, undamaged, tradable condition.
  • For a safe trading experience, please trade one pin at a time, hand to hand with pin backs attached.
  • Guests may trade a maximum of two (2) pins per Cast Member, per day.
  • Please refrain from touching a Cast Member’s or Guest’s pins or lanyard. If you need a closer look, kindly ask the Cast Member or Guest wearing the lanyard if she or he can bring it into clearer view for you.
  • Monies, gifts or receipts may not be exchanged or used in trade for a pin.
  • When trading with a Cast Member, Guests should offer a pin that is not currently displayed on the Cast Member’s lanyard.
  • Pins from other business units of The Walt Disney Company (i.e.ABC, ESPN) are accepted for trade.
  • Operating participant pins that show a Disney, Disneyland®Resort, or Walt Disney World®Resort affiliation are accepted for trading.
  • Plastic pins, rubber pins or other non-metal pins are not accepted for trading.
  • “Personalized Name”pins are not accepted for trade.
  • “Broche style”or “clasp pins”are not accepted for trade.
  • Disney Service Award pins, Spirit of Disneyland®Resort pins, Partners in Excellence pins or Cast Member costume pins (i.e. Host/Hostess Badges, Disney Trainer) are not tradable.
  • Disney Trading is magical fun for the whole family! The most important etiquette to remember is to have fun collecting or trading!

Hidden Mickey Pins

The Hidden Mickey Collection is a way for Cast Members at Disney Parks and Resorts to trade unique pins with Guests. Guests can trade up to two (2) Hidden Mickey pins per Cast Member, per day. “Hidden Mickey Pin” is featured in a small box on the back stamp of each pin.

Disneyland® Resort Checklists
Walt Disney World® Resort Checklists

What is a Hidden Mickey Pin (formerly known as a “Cast Lanyard Pin”)?

The Hidden Mickey pin (formerly Cast Lanyard pin) program was introduced in 2002 at the Walt Disney World® Resort. TheDisneyland® Resort also introduced a similar “Lanyard pin” program in 2003. Cast Members use Hidden Mickey pins to trade with Guests. These pins measure approximately 1.25″. The backstamp is silver-colored and contains a box indicating the pin is a Hidden Mickey pin (formerly “Cast Lanyard Series,” “Cast Lanyard Collection,” or “Lanyard Pin”). The back stamp also contains the number of pins in that collection (i.e. 1 of 5). The front of the pin contains a small Mickey Mouse icon in the artwork.

How and Where are Hidden Mickey Pins Released
Hidden Mickey pins are released at random to Cast Members at Disney Parks and Resorts. The Hidden Mickey pin checklist is a great resource for images of the pins (see the .PDF files below). Please note that not every pin pictured may be available at a particular time as availability of a particular pin is subject to change without notice.

Part of the fun behind the Hidden Mickey Pin Collection is searching for your favorite pins. Trade and collect the pins which are most important to you. Along the way, you are sure to meet Cast Members that are dedicated to making your visit to a Disney Park or Resort a magical one!

Why Was the Name Changed from “Cast Lanyard Pin” to “Hidden Mickey Pin?”
The name change was made based on the current identifier found on Hidden Mickey pins, a small Mickey Mouse icon. “Hidden Mickeys” are also incorporated into many attractions and locations at Disney Theme Parks and Resorts. We felt this change would complement something fun many Guests were already seeking.

Are Hidden Mickey Pins Considered to be Limited Edition?
Hidden Mickey pins are not limited edition pins. A Limited Edition pin contains a back stamp stating the edition size (i.e. Limited Edition of XX).

Are Hidden Mickey pins for sale?
Yes. Select Hidden Mickey pins are available for sale via a Hidden Mickey Mystery Pouch. Disney Cast Members will continue using Hidden Mickey pins to trade with Guests. The Hidden Mickey Mystery Pouch is just another way that Guests can start or complete their Hidden Mickey pin collections.

What is the “first trade opportunity” for Hidden Mickey pins?
Hidden Mickey pins will continue to debut on Disney Cast Members’ lanyards first. Guests will have a “first trading opportunity” with Disney Cast Members when a new collection of Hidden Mickey pins is released. Following a select period of time, Hidden Mickey Mystery Pouches will be released giving Guests the opportunity to start or complete their collections.

Finding Dory Box Office Continuing to Make Records

findingdory

Finding Dory” had a stellar opening last weekend at the box office, having brought in $135 million domestically. These numbers made the film rank as the highest grossing opening weekend of an animated film ever, as well as the second highest June opening of any movie. With it’s second weekend now beginning to wrap up, it is still going strong.

So far during its second weekend in theaters, “Finding Dory” has already brought in $75 million, making it the #1 movie of the weekend box office. It even topped Fox’s opening of “Independence Day: Resurgence” this weekend, which made $43 million.  These box office numbers have made “Finding Dory” the seventh highest second-weekend ever for a film! Overall, “Dory” has brought in   $287,213,059 worldwide.

Comparatively, “Frozen”, the highest grossing animated film of all time made $93,933,226 worldwide by its second weekend. With “Finding Dory” having almost made triple this amount, could it replace the title “Frozen” currently holds?

Haven’t seen “Finding Dory” yet? You can check out our official spoiler-free review here.
