Hurricane Matthew Causing Alterations to The Chew Tapings at Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

cuaftxmxyaaa6ze

With the possibility that Hurricane Matthew could possibly make landfall into Florida very soon, the producers of  ABC’s The Chew have decided to make some changes to the show’s scheduled tapings at Epcot.

Instead of scrapping it completely, they have been working overtime to try and tape all the episodes in just 2 days. Yesterday there was 2 tapings, and today there are 3 tapings at 9:40 AM, 1:40 PM and now one at 5:15 PM.

The October 6th taping was cancelled, as well as a Q&A that was set to take place earlier today in Epcot’s America Gardens Theatre. Ticketholders to that event were offered seats at today’s filmings. The shows taped during the Festival at Epcot are set to air October 10-14th on ABC.

Disney is keeping guests fully informed about their plans and any changes that may need to happen in regards to Hurricane Matthew. We will keep you posted as we learn more.

Disney Vacation Club Announces $25,000 Make-A-Wish Foundation Contribution

dvcmaw093f9

As a part of the 25th DVC Anniversary celebration, Disney Vacation Club members had the chance recently to enjoy a members-only performance of Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway, at the Amsterdam theater in NYC.

At the conclusion of the performance last night, Disney Vacation Club Senior Vice President and General Manager Ken Potrock announced that in honor of its 25th anniversary, Disney Vacation Club would help grant the wishes of some very brave children.

With a little help from the magic maker himself, Genie, played by Tony Award-winning actor James Monroe Iglehart, Ken announced that Disney Vacation Club is contributing $25,000 to Make-A-Wish, a nonprofit organization dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. This contribution will help impact the lives of even more children and their families.

dvcmaw647184fi

Disney has a long-standing relationship with Make-A-Wish. For the past 35 years, Make-A-Wish and Disney have granted more than 100,000 Disney-related wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Disney-themed wishes have included magical experiences at the Disney theme parks, voyages aboard Disney Cruise Line and even special backstage visits to television and movie sets.

What do you think of DVC’s generous contribution?

Writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Jurassic World) were brought on to rewrite a spec script from 2015.

Jason Reed is attached to produce along with Chris Bender and Jake Weiner.

Best Drink and Bite At Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival

FW

FW

The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival offers up hundreds of great bites to sample around the World Showcase.  So how to pick a best drink & and a best bite in the face of so many options?  The answer is by bringing plenty of friends and by sampling as much as possible.

The best drink was, by far, the easiest choice for my group of 5.  We all prefer frozen drinks over wine and beer.  On the day of our visit the weather was 92 degrees and we were looking for a cold and refreshing drink.  The Tiki Torch, at the Joffrey’s Kiosk, was the perfect combination of sweet and tart flavors in a frozen slushy drink.  It is also one of the Passport Specialty Beverages.  The Grey Goose Vodka kept the drink light and the crushed ice ensured the drink stayed cold for some time.

Since it would be impossible to choose only one favorite, here is the breakdown by course.  The winner of the best bite bread category is the Pao de Queijo from Brazil.  The bread was warm with a crispy outer layer.   As you bite into the bread, the melted cheese in the middle added a wonderful flavor to the softer, lighter bread in the middle.  You get two rolls, making this a perfectly sharable bread choice.

I have to rate the  Spicy Hummus Fries, from Morocco, as the most unusual, and flavorful in the best bite appetizer category.  The spicy flavor of the hummus and Tzatziki Sauce, combined with the cooling essence of the cucumber and tomato, makes for a well-balanced appetizer.

Hands-down, the best bite entrée is the Lamb Meatball from New Zealand.  The lamb flavor is not too strong, and combined with the spicy tomato chutney, in the little sweet bread bowl, this is truly a meal for all the senses.  When you bite into this delectable entrée, the flavors will cause your taste palate to experience a plethora of flavors all at once.  The presentation is appealing to the eye, while the smell, and texture, of the flavor combinations will make your mouth water.

A meal is truly special when you add cheese.  The winner of the cheese bite course is the Trio of Artisan Cheeses from The Wine & Dine Studio.  Each cheese is paired with a perfect accompaniment to enhance the flavors and assist you in becoming a true cheese connoisseur.

What meal can be called complete without dessert?  My favorite dessert bite choice takes us full-circle to America with its Freshly Baked Carrot Cake.  The cake is extremely moist and the cream cheese icing adds just the right amount of sweetness to make this a classic flavor.

There you have it!  While my party of 5 did not agree 100% on all of the choices, each of the items listed were voted in by 3 or 4 of us in the group.  The Epcot International Food & Wine Festival’s Taste Your Way Around the World is so much fun.  Gather up your family and friends and head on over to Epcot to pick your personal favorites.  Just be prepared for a flavor explosion, and arrive hungry as the choices are plentiful.

What is your vote for best drink & best bite at the 21st Annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival?  Please leave your comments in the box below.

Disney Cruise Line Issues a Tropical Weather Update

2016-10-05-08_35_53-advisory-_-guest-services-_-disney-cruise-line

Disney Cruise Line is advising guests that they are carefully monitoring the weather to determine what changes if any need to be made to upcoming itineraries.

This is on the heels of Disney diverting the October 3rd  3-day Bahamian Cruise departing from Port Canaveral to Cozumel rather than making its usual stops at Nassau, Bahamas and Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island.

However, Disney is currently  stressing that the following cruises have NOT been cancelled or faced changes to their itineraries:

  • October 7 – Disney Dream & Disney Magic
  • October 8- Disney Fantasy

DCL is also stressing that itinerary changes will be implemented as a first course of action in the event of bad weather.

However, guests planning on sailing with Disney Cruise Line over the coming week are strongly encouraged to watch this space for updated information or check in regularly with Disney Cruise Line since Port Canaveral has recently announced that it is closing its terminal to ships starting Wednesday October 5th.

Guests with Land and Sea packages or who are planning a visit to Walt Disney World should also note that it has been reported that Disney has starting issuing refunds in keeping with its Hurricane Policy.  Check out this article for further details.

ABC working on a show based on Walt Disney World and other Disney Theme Parks

Longtime showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters have ramped up development through their pod deal at ABC Studios. The duo’s Fazekas & Butters production company has sold two hourlong projects to ABC — one written by them with a Disney theme parks tie-in and one penned by filmmaker Nisha Ganatra. The company also has set up projects at Freeform and Amazon with writers Nick Towne and Heath Corson and is developing a series based on Wesley Chu’s Tao science fiction book series.

Details about the untitled ABC drama written by Fazekas and Butters (aka Hyperion) are being kept under wraps, but it is based on the Disney theme park mythology. The duo is executive producing with former Disney executive-turned-producer Jason Reed.

In the first season since launching their Fazekas & Butters company as a full-fledged pod based at ABC Studios, Fazekas and Butters landed a pilot order at ABC for “the Death of Eva Sofia Valdez”, written by Cuban-American playwright Charise Castro Smith and starring Gina Torres. The drama, as well as the new projects by Ganatra, Towne and Corson, are part of the efforts by Fazekas, Butters and their development executive Robert Atwood to build F&B as a writer-friendly pod focused on finding and shepherding fresh new voices. In their second year as a pod, Fazekas and Butters also concentrated on expanding into cable and streaming through ABC Studios’ division ABC Signature, which produces the Freeform and Amazon projects. All F&B projects are executive produced by Fazekas and Butters, with Atwood serving as producer.

The untitled Nisha Ganatra dramedy, which she is writing, executive producing and set to direct, explores themes of identity, the immigrant experience and the search for love through a multi-generational Indian American family.

ABC Studios has optioned the rights to Chu’s Tao book series for F&B. The TV series, titled “The Lives of Tao” after the first book in the trilogy, is written and executive produced by Chris Dingess. The project, which will be taken out to broadcast network shortly, follows Roen Tan, an out-of-shape, rudderless IT guy who, when inhabited by a centuries-old alien named Tao, becomes a secret agent in order to save humanity from warring alien factions. Chu serves as consultant.

The Problem with Mel Purview, which is in development at Amazon, was written on spec by Nick Towne, who serves as co-executive producer. The darkly humorous contemporary noir starts with a kidnapping and a semi-absent father named Mel Purview who is sucked into the highly organized criminal underworld of modern Los Angeles as he is forced by kidnappers to lead a secretive double life.

The untitled Heath Corson project, in development at Freeform, is written/co-executive produced by Corson. It follows the four Sage children, who stumbled into the magical world of Arcana 14 years ago. Now, reunited after the mysterious death of their father, the Sages must put aside their differences and come together as a family in order to confront an invasion of our world from Arcana, eager to make the siblings answer for the sins of the past.
Fazekas and Butters recently served as executive producers/showrunners on ABC/ABC Studios’ Marvel’s Agent Carter and Resurrection. They previously created the cult CW series Reaper and served as writer-producers on Law & Order: SVU for five seasons. The duo is repped by ICM Partners and Michael Gendler. Last season, Ganatra landed a put pilot commitment at NBC about another semi-autobiographical project, comedy Pre-Madonna, which she executive produced with Amy Poehler.

Ganatra was working as an indie filmmaker — her first movie was the 1999 Chutney Popcorn — when she was brought in as a main director alongside creator Jill Soloway and a consulting producer on the first season of Amazon’s Transparent. That launched a career as a TV director for Ganatra, who helmed all 10 episodes of Audience’s You Me Her and has directed episodes of a slew of other series, including Better Things, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Mindy Project, Mr. Robot and Shameless. She is repped by ICM Partners.
Dingess is repped by UTA. Towne is repped by Paradigm and 3 Arts. Corson is repped by ICM Partners and Circle of Confusion. Chu is with Angela Cheng Caplan.
