‘Cars 3’ Drives into Disney Springs This Weekend

Cars 3

Cars 3

The highly anticipated, third installment of “Cars 3” doesn’t arrive at theaters until June 16th. However, you can catch a sneak peak this weekend of the story featuring Lightning McQueen along with new characters Cruz Ramirez and Jackson Storm. The “Road to the Races” nationwide tour kicks off at Disney Springs in The Walt Disney World Resort this weekend, March 23rd to March 26th.

Expect fun activities for the whole family, plus an extended “sneak peek” of the film when the tour rolls into town. While I’m personally most excited for photo opportunities with the three life-size character cars, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy the event.

Alamo Rent A Car will sponsor a giant color mural; Coppertone will encourage guests to take part in a racer pit crew tire-changing activity and a fun photo opportunity; Crest and Oral-B will pass out prizes from the Piston Cup prize wheel (I hope I win a new toothbrush!) and will offer fans the chance to create a digital postcard with Lightning McQueen; at the Dole Refueling Station, you can sample high-octane smoothies; Mattel plans to present an interactive play area; and last, but not least, NASCAR will be on hand to share the history and science behind their iconic brand.

During your visit, keep an eye out for “Cars” merchandise and special menu items at select food and beverage locations, plus a DJ dance party with tracks that will make you want to rev up your engine.

Ready to race over to take part in the event? The tour, located at Disney Springs in the former Marketplace Bus Loop near Once Upon A Toy, opens to the public on Thursday, March 23 at 12:00 p.m. and will run until 7:00 p.m. that evening. On Friday, March 24, and Saturday, March 25, join the fun from 11 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. And on the final day, Sunday, March 26, guests can enjoy the experience from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Shanghai Disney Resort Attractions and Live Shows Honored with Top Awards

CAAPA Awards

CAAPA Awards

Shanghai Disney Resort was recently honored with five top awards from the China Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (CAAPA). CAAPA is the largest trade association for the themed entertainment industry in China. Within it’s first year of opening, Shanghai Disney has also received accolades from the Visual Effects Society, Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), which is the international counterpart of CAAPA.

Accepting its third major industry award to date, Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure was honored with an Award for the Innovative Amusement Facilities in a China Theme Park. The attraction continues to wow guests from around the world for its ambitious storytelling at the hands of cutting edge technology never before seen in a Disney park.

Also, Soaring Over the Horizon received an Award for Innovative Cultural Product in a China Theme Park, and Mickey’s Storybook Express received an Award for Best Performing Arts Offerings in a China Theme Park. Both offerings represent experiences unique to our resort in Shanghai. Did you know Mickey’s Storybook Express travels down the longest parade route at any Disney park? These are just a few of the can’t-miss options waiting for you at Shanghai Disneyland.

The resort took home two more awards for China Theme Park Overall Planning and Outstanding Contribution to China’s Amusement Industry. The positive feedback from guests is overwhelming as Shanghai Disney Resort continues to deliver an authentically Disney, distinctly Chinese experience for guests from mainland China and around the world.

“Beauty And The Beast” Breaks Box Office Records; $350 Million Global Opening

Adventures by Disney

Adventures by Disney

Yet again, “Beauty And The Beast” ruled top at the box office this weekend with an estimated $170 million domestically and $180 million internationally resulting in a worldwide gross of $350 million.

On top of that, the Disney insta-classic has broken a few more things than only the box office.

It was the largest opening for a PG film, the largest IMAX opening for a PG rated film in both domestic and global markets, The 7th largest opening weekend ever and the 4th largest Saturday gross of all time.

Have you seen the Live Action Beauty and the Beast yet?

Let me know what you think in the comment box below.

Disney’s live-action “Mulan” to not be a musical

mulan

Director Niko Caro has been quoted in her recent MovieFone interview as saying about the new live-action “Mulan” film, “No songs right now, much to the horror of my children.” Instead she relayed that the film would be “muscular” and a “girly martial arts epic,” implying that the feature film would lean more in the direction of an action movie.

This seems to be a controversial move.

The live-action musical adaptation of “Beauty and the Beast” is breaking box office records left and right.

It’s a bold choice, but it is still early on and things could change.

Hollywood and Vine Character Dining Changes Delayed until September

Hollywood and Vine Character Dining Changes Delayed until September

The Disney Junior Play n Dine lunch was previously announced to be ending on May 14th, with Minnie’s Seasonal Dine taking the lunchtime slot instead. With this change, the Disney Junior Play n Dine will continue to remain in the breakfast time slot with characters joining the fun such as Jake, Sofia, Doc McStuffins, and Handy Manny.

However, we hear now that this change in lunchtime dining has been delayed until September 4th instead. The Disney Junior crew will now be remaining in their lunchtime slot until the Fall. In the meantime, you can still catch Minnie and her friends in their rotating seasonal outfits at Dinner indefinitely.

Also in September we will see a pricing increase for the lunch buffet with the change in characters. The change brings the new adult lunch price to $53.27, and the child price to $31.95.

Here is the current schedule:

Trivia and Fun Facts added to Disney Digital Transportation Boards

Trivia and Fun Facts added to Disney Digital Transportation Boards

If you’ve been to Walt Disney World recently you may have experienced the new digital transportation boards at the bus stops that keep guests informed on the time a bus should arrive to pick them up for their park.

It appears now that in true Disney fashion, they are making the signs a little bit more interactive to ease wait times by posting trivia and fun facts on the board to entertain guests while they wait. We think this is a great addition to the screens, don’t you?

Disney Springs Begins Construction of Third Parking Garage on April 1

Disney Springs Parking Garage

Disney Springs Parking Garage

The growth and expansion of the Disney Springs area continues with the construction of a third parking garage and pedestrian bridge. This new parking structure will be located adjacent to the Walt Disney World Casting building on Buena Vista Drive across the street from Disney Springs.

Construction will begin on April 1. Upon completion this new parking garage will provide 3,000 additional covered parking spaces for Disney Springs guests and cast members as well as guests of the nearby Partners (formerly SunTrust) building.

Parking Garage Disney Springs

The parking garage will feature the same smart technology as the existing two garages, which assists guests in finding available parking. If you have not had the opportunity to see this firsthand, it is quite helpful. As you approach the existing garages an electronic sign will display the number of available spaces for each level. On every level you will see an electronic sign at the entrance of each row denoting the available spaces in the row. Over the top of each parking space is a scanner equipped with a green and red light that detects when a car is in the space. When the space is occupied the light changes to red. This smart technology is just another thing to love about Disney Springs (not to mention the parking is complimentary!).

Construction of the garage and pedestrian bridge is scheduled to be completed in 2019.

Join in the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ Magic at Disney Parks and Resorts

Walt Disney World

Walt Disney World

Were you one of the millions to see Disney’s new “Beauty and the Beast” live-action movie this past weekend? Are you as enchanted as we are and want to live some of that magic? If so, you are in luck! There is no shortage of ways to live like Belle and experience all the magic firsthand at Disney Parks and Resorts.

Watch the story unfold before your eyes during Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or let Belle herself take you into the story during Enchanted Tales with Belle at The Magic Kingdom. Experience the comedic, abbreviated version when The Royal Theatre Presents Beauty and the Beast at Disneyland , and step into The Beast’s Library at Disney California Adventure park to find your place in the story.

For those who haven’t seen the new movie, catch the special sneak peek at One Man’s Dream in Disney’s Hollywood Studios or at Sunset Showcase Theater at Disney California Adventure park. A collection of props and costume pieces used in the film’s production will be on display through this weekend.

You can Be Our Guest and dine inside the Beast’s castle at Magic Kingdom Park, step into Lumiere’s Kitchen at Shanghai Disneyland or sail away with Disney Cruise Line for a taste of Lumiere’s on the Disney Magic. At Disneyland park, Fantasyland has transformed with limited-time offerings inspired by the movie, including treats at Red Rose Taverne. Try the Grey Stuff – it’s delicious! This spring, Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel will also offer afternoon tea and pastries themed to the iconic tale.

Of course, no visit is complete without a glimpse of Belle herself. She makes a point of stopping by all of our parks, including Disneyland Paris in her native France. You might even spot Gaston near his tavern in Magic Kingdom Park or catch him when he’s at Disneyland park, walking through Fantasyland trying to impress the ladies.

As we continue to expand across the globe, we’re looking for even more ways to bring this beloved fairytale to life. Starting in November, Disney Cruise Line guests can enjoy a brand new musical production inspired by the live-action “Beauty and the Beast” on board the Disney Dream. Fans will also be able to climb aboard “enchanted dishes” and break the spell at Beast’s Castle in a new “Beauty and the Beast” themed area coming to Tokyo Disneyland as part of its Fantasyland expansion.

We’ve also just announced the chance to embark on a real-life journey that celebrates the inspiration behind “Beauty and the Beast” during Adventures by Disney Rhine River Cruises next year. You can visit a French village that inspired Belle’s small provincial town, belt out your favorite songs at karaoke nights, attend cooking classes, and enjoy screenings of both the animated feature and live-action film.

With so many ways to experience “Beauty and the Beast” at Disney Parks and Resorts, what are you looking forward to the most?
