Doctor Strange Now Appearing at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios

DocS

DocS

Doctor Strange is now appearing in his own show, with meet-and-greet, at the Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios.  During the show he will select children to join him and learn about the Mystic Arts.  There was no formal announcement about this meet and greet show that is geared for children ages 7-12. Doctor Strange can be found at the far end of Pixar Place, where the construction walls are up for Toy Story Land.

Doctor Strange gathers children who present with mystical powers.  His assistant, Santiago, helps organize the group during and after the show.  You can see our Live video of this new experience here:  https://www.facebook.com/chipandco/videos/10154726132593417/?video_source=pages_finch_main_video

A new area, known as Bleecker Street,  has suddenly appeared at the far end of Pixar Place beyond Toy Story Midway Mania.  Bleecker Street is located where Pixar Place ends and the construction walls are up for the future Toy Story Land.

You will not find anything in the Times Guide or the Park Map about this experience.  The reason for this is likely that the original contract signed between Marvel and Universal  does not allow Marvel characters to be in any other parks east of the Mississippi River.  A loophole in the contract has apparently been discovered and, while Disney cannot promote Marvel characters in any of their parks, they can have them there as long as they are characters developed after the Disney/Marvel contract was signed, and Universal cannot be using that character in their parks.

Here is our video of the Meet & Greet!

Is this just a rumor or is it Disney Mystical Magic?

Super Heroes Half Marathon Merchandise

The runDisney Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend returns to Disneyland Resort from November 10-13, 2016. Of course, lots of great commemorative Super Heroes Half Marathon Merchandise will be available for guests during this heroic weekend.

i-did-it

I always love the celebration shirts available for the Marathon weekends. Disneyland will have “I Did It” shirts for the various races including the Captain America 5K, the Doctor Strange 10K, and the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon. I like that there is also some v-neck options available too.

performance-2 performanceperformance-3

Lots of performance gear will also be on hand for our super powered runners! T-shirts, tanks, jackets, hoodies and more will feature an array of characters and Heroic phrases. You will also find hats, Bondi Bands, Sweaty Bands, and themed drinkware created especially for the event weekend. Other items will include medal replica pins, car magnets, and one of my personal favorites,  an ear hat for the Kids Races. Gear celebrating the  Infinity Gauntlet Challenge will also be available. This intense challenge involves running the 13.1-mile half marathon, plus the 6.2–mile 10K! I love that is also lines up with the journey the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on. Look for long and short-sleeved apparel for both women and men along with pins, car magnets and hats.

super-hero-dooney

Last, but most certainly not least is the merchandise many of us Disney shoppers anticipate. the race weekend themed Dooney and Bourkes. I really love the direction they went with them this year. They toned down the bright colors, and went with a classic red, white, and blue motif. Instead of patterned logos we have images of many beloved Marvel character adorning the bags. Although these are of a more overt Super Hero design, they still feel more like a traditional D&B design to me.

You can check out all of these great new heroic finds at the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo at the Disneyland Hotel Exhibit Hall during the following dates and times:

  • Thursday, November 10: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Friday, November 11: Noon – 8 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 12: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Get ready to assemble your Super Heroes Half Marathon Merchandise! Hope you have a power-packed race weekend!

Charming Handmade Felt Disney Christmas Decorations

Felt Disney Christmas Decorations

This little trio of handmade Felt Disney Christmas Decorations by Sparklydream on Etsy has captured my heart! They have this sweet cozy appeal to them that I just love.

These charming little darlings are made from soft felt and decorated with christmas embellishments. Each one has been lovingly hand stitched by the designer. These are a lovely addition to any Christmas tree or to hang from a mantle, or shelf as decor. These cuties are available in a set of 3 or individuals. I bet these would also make great accents on Christmas gifts instead of a bow. The designer also has an amazing garland that coordinates with this beautifully!

Will you be decking the halls with Disney Christmas Decorations in your home this year?

Husband of Olympic Bronze Medalist Jenny Simpson Sets New Wine and Dine Half Marathon Record

Record Breaking

Record Breaking

It was a banner day for Disney’s Wine and Dine Half Marathon this morning as both the Men’s and Women Record were broken.

Jason Simpson, the husband of Olympic bronze medalist Jenny Simpson finished the 13.1 mile run in 1 hour, 10 minutes and 24 seconds.  This breaks the record set by Justin Scheid in 2013 of 1:11:47. Donald Hanigosky of Parma, Ohio finished second with a time of 1:20:47.

But that wasn’t the only record broken this year.  Brazilian runner Giovanna Martins finished the women’s category in first place at 1:20:20 which beats Kristen Tengalia’s record also set n 2013 of 1:23:37.

According to details released by the Orlando Sentinel, 12,600 runners completed this year’s Marathon held this morning (November 6, 2016) starting at 5:30 am.

Jenny Simpson, competing herself, saw the race as a training run where she managed to finish second at 1:21:23.

Contract Negotiations Between Disney and the Reedy Creek Firefighters Ongoing

12a-reedycreekfd-disney

The Reedy Creek Firefighters have been working for 2 years without a contract while they negotiated with Disney. Recently a special magistrate, James D. Stokes made a final decision regarding the negotiations and it appears that Disney has rejected the Magistrate’s final ruling.

WDW Info reports that the union was asking for the employee and employer to share the cost of health insurance increases, that health screenings include tests for cancer, and that a cost of living adjustment be made to the pay plans (something that hasn’t been done since 2008).

The magistrate sided with the firefighters, but Disney rejected the decision, returning a 16-page letter explaining why. Some of the reasoning included was “the decision took too long to render, that the district is a good place to work, and that the magistrate did not listen to their evidence.”

Disney’s attorney’s stated, “It is clear from his Recommendation that the Special Magistrate applied his own mistaken views of the bargaining process…”, that his “views run afoul of the Florida Administration Code”, and that he has “notions of industrial justice.”

The company said the evidence they presented “is consistent with a workforce who believes Emergency Service personnel are well compensated and appreciate their work environment.”

Stromsnes replies, “Their rejection is offensive not only to us and the process, but also the magistrate. We both had the opportunity to present our case to an impartial person. We both reviewed the qualifications of a list of magistrates and we both picked out Mr. Stokes. And because he didn’t side with the district, he must be some zealot out for industrial justice? Whatever that means. It doesn’t even occur to them that the reason they lost was because they simply had bad evidence.”

He added, “Most bullies think they are wonderful and that they really are not doing harm to their victims. But I don’t know of anyone who would be happy with an employer who withholds pay for almost two years, disregards the health and safety norms of their industry, and passes on the bulk of insurance premium increases to their employees.”

It was just announced that insurance costs will be going up almost 40% for the firefighters.

Stromsnes says the firefighters will consider other options, but the next step is to protest on November 16 at the Disney Springs grand re-opening.

He said, “In 2013, Disney earned $5.7 billion in profit. They are the only private company in American that has their own public government. Through the district they get out of paying sales tax on materials, finance their projects with tax free bonds, and avoid paying property taxes on many of their properties. And they still feel the need to find their projects off the backs of their employees.”

A $95 million dollar third Disney Springs parking garage construction project was just announced last month. Stromsnes said, “The cost of that garage would fund the increases in our contract for the next 70 years. But we aren’t the only ones taking a hit. It will be a ‘public’ garage giving it tax immunity while depriving the surrounding communities of millions of dollars of revenue. No other business gets a deal like that.”

hopefully the 2 can come to an agreement soon.

Disney’s New Moana Doll Box Transforms Into a Toy to Encourage Recycling

Moana Doll Box

With one-third of the waste in the United States coming from packaging, and only 30% of the waste going on to be recycled, Disney has announced that it’s inspiring kids to help protect the planet! It will be doing this with a first-of-its-kind toy package from the Moana doll, that transforms into the boat from the Disney’s newest feature film!

The Moana Doll Box is made with 70 percent recycled paper and printed with vegetable-based inks, the easy-to-open package was designed without tape or glue; allowing the pieces to separate easily. In addition to making it easier than ever to recycle, the box itself can be turned into a boat inspired by Moana’s journey, providing an added element of fun for parents and kids.

· The new ‘Classic Moana’ doll box was created with Disney’s SmartPackaging Initiative, a program dedicated to creating environmentally conscious product packaging to inspire the toy industry to make more Earth-friendly choices.

Disney Has It’s Biggest Box Office Year Ever.

zootopia

zootopia

With such successful movies like “Finding Dory”, “Zootopia” and “Captain America:Civil War” this year, it’s no surprise that Disney has exceeded box offices expectations. What is surprising is that it’s happened two full months and three major releases still left on its 2016 slate. Disney Studios announced Wednesday it has posted its biggest year ever at the global box office, earning $5.851.4 billion as of Tuesday. The massive worldwide haul surpasses Disney’s 2015 calendar-year record of $5.843.8 billion.

The news comes on the heels of Disney becoming the fastest studio to reach the $2 billion domestic mark on July 16; the studio also became the quickest to make $3 billion internationally on July 6, and $5 billion globally on July 10. Disney has earned $3.697.1 billion from countries around the world. In the U.S. and Canada, Disney releases have amassed $2.154.3 billion, and are on track to pass the studio’s previous domestic record of $2.278.6 billion in ticket sales by the end of November.

Leading the charge for Disney is Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War, released in May, which is currently 2016’s top-grossing film worldwide with a total haul of $1.15 billion. Zootopia ranks at No. 2 with $1.023 billion, followed by Pixar’s Finding Dory ($1.022 billion) and The Jungle Book ($966 million). Though technically a 2015 release, Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens made $736.6 million of its $2.068 global total this year.

With the release of Doctor Strange, Disney’s totals are projected to climb even higher as the month continues, as the Marvel flick topped the international box office last weekend, pulling in $87.7 mil across its opening. Its worldwide total later climbed to $110.1 million ahead of its North American bow this Friday, Nov. 4.

In addition to Doctor Strange, Disney has two more potentially massive worldwide grossers on deck. Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Moana” hits theaters on Nov. 23, while Lucasfilm’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” opens on Dec. 16.

“For the second year in a row, The Walt Disney Studios has reached a new high at the box office thanks to an absolutely stellar collection of releases from Disney, Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm,” Alan Horn, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, said via press release. “This success is a testament to the refined talent and innovative work the entire Studio team puts into making these world-class cinematic experiences.”
