Over a year of preparation has gone into this ambitious renovation, with Walt Disney Imagineering Paris teaming up with Design & Delivery, Maintenance, and Central Workshop teams. Their goal? Restoring the Wild West
Central to this project is extensive work on the wooden structures that define the attractionโs rugged aesthetic. After conducting detailed studies, the teams plan to replace parts of the station and other key structures with custom-made, durable wood elements. These new additions will be artfully aged to maintain the authentic look of this gold-rush mine. Iconic elements like the Mill Camp tower and the queueโs dรฉcor will also receive thoughtful refurbishments, preserving the rideโs rich Frontierland heritage.
Breathing Life Back into the Details
No detail is too small for Big Thunder Mountainโs creative team. Animal figures, including fan favorites like Billy the goat and the hardworking mules, will be lovingly restored to their original glory by the Central Workshop artisans. Meanwhile, the attractionโs desert landscape will receive a botanical revival, with the re-planting of realistic cacti to capture the spirit of the American Southwest. Imagineers have even consulted archives dating back to the attractionโs 1992 debut to ensure these elements stay true to its original vision.
