Astro Orbiter May Soon Take Flight Again as Disney Files New Construction Permit
After months of quiet atop its launch platform in Tomorrowland, signs are pointing to liftoff once again for Astro Orbiter at Magic Kingdom. According to new filings, Disney has submitted a fresh Notice of Commencement, suggesting that the long-dormant reassembly process may finally be underway.
The newly filed permit uses the same description as the earlier dismantling phase—”Provide labor, material and/or electrical for construction”—and is once again assigned to Buena Vista Construction Company (BVCC). While it doesn’t specify exact timelines, this filing marks the most concrete progress since the ride system was fully disassembled earlier this year.
Photos from early February showed the entire structure removed from its elevated perch, with a large crane assisting in the process. That crane has since been taken off-site, but it is expected to return in the coming weeks as large components are brought back for reassembly.
Disney has yet to provide an updated reopening date, though the summer 2025 target still stands.
For fans of this high-flying Tomorrowland spinner, the return of activity is a welcome sign that the classic attraction will soon once again be sending guests soaring above the Magic Kingdom skyline. Stay tuned for further updates as Astro Orbiter gears up for launch. 🚀
Universal Horror Unleashed Brings Year-Round Screams to Las Vegas Starting August 14
Las Vegas is already the entertainment capital of the world—but it’s about to get much scarier. According to Universal, the masterminds behind Halloween Horror Nights are unleashing a brand-new, year-round horror attraction in Sin City, and it’s set to open August 14, 2025. Welcome to Universal Horror Unleashed, a fully immersive nightmare experience that promises to bring your deepest fears to terrifying life—all year long.
Housed inside Warehouse 25, a fictional abandoned production facility filled with cursed film props and haunted set pieces, Universal Horror Unleashed isn’t just a haunted house—it’s a living horror story. The immersive space features:
Four terrifying haunted houses based on:
Universal Monsters
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Scarecrow: The Reaping
Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer
Four themed live entertainment zones, including:
A gothic vampire-filled Hollywood set
A slasher-infested film vault
A graveyard of possessed props
A twisted carnival-themed storage yard
Themed food and drinks worthy of a scream (and maybe a second helping)
👻 Not Just Jump Scares—A Story You Can Sink Your Fangs Into
Unlike Halloween Horror Nights, which focuses on high-speed thrills and quick frights, Universal Horror Unleashed lets you linger in the fear. Guests are encouraged to take their time, explore the chilling stories behind the scares, and interact with richly detailed environments. As TJ Mannarino, Universal’s VP of Art and Design, put it: “This experience gives guests more time to really enjoy the characters and learn their stories.”
That means whether you’re a longtime horror hound or brand new to the genre, there’s something here that will get under your skin.
Scares at Universal Horror Unleashed aren’t just random—they’re engineered. “There really is a science to how we build these rooms and how we scare people,” explains show director Nate Stevenson. From sound effects that make your skin crawl to shadowy figures waiting just beyond your peripheral vision, every detail is precisely designed to target your specific fears.
And yes, that means whether it’s jump scares, eerie atmospheres, or just a sound that reminds you of a broken bone (shudder), this experience will hit you right where it hurts—in the best way.
🎟️ Get Ready to Scream—Tickets On Sale Now
Opening August 14, 2025, Universal Horror Unleashed is the first-ever permanent, year-round horror experience from Universal, and it’s already shaping up to be the must-visit destination for horror fans in Las Vegas. Tickets are on sale now—so if you’re brave enough, secure yours and prepare to walk straight into a living nightmare.
Because in Vegas, the house always wins… and this house is haunted. 🕷️
Bond, Bears, and Back to the Future: What May Be Coming to the UK’s First Universal Theme Park
According to reporting by the BBC, fans finally have a glimpse into what may be in store at Universal’s first UK theme park, and the lineup sounds nothing short of epic. The new park—planned for Kempston Hardwick in Bedfordshire—will be home to attractions inspired by some of Britain’s most beloved and globally recognized franchises, including James Bond, Paddington Bear, and The Lord of the Rings.
While Universal Destinations & Experiences has publicly stated that it’s “too early” to confirm attractions, a source close to the project told the BBC that contracts have been signed for multiple intellectual properties and that many rides have already been designed, with an opening date tentatively set for 2031.
The source confirmed to the BBC that the park will include:
A James Bond stunt show, modeled after Universal Orlando’s Bourne Stuntacular, promising high-octane action.
A Paddington Bear attraction, sure to charm younger visitors and nostalgic adults alike.
Themed zones and coasters based on Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, and Minions.
A Lord of the Rings land, with castle-like concept art showing off towering fantasy architecture.
Most of the rides are expected to be indoor attractions, much like those at Epic Universe, Universal’s newest park in Florida. Outdoor coasters will be limited to a few franchises like Back to the Future, Minions, and Jurassic Park..
🚫 No Harry Potter – For Now
Despite being a central attraction at Universal parks around the world, Harry Potter will not be part of the UK park. The BBC reports that Warner Bros. holds exclusive UK rights and operates the Warner Bros. Studio Tour just 40 minutes away in Leavesden. Universal tried to find a way around the restrictions but reportedly faced “watertight exclusivity contracts.”
However, the door isn’t closed forever. The source noted that if the park expands, franchises like Harry Potter, Nintendo, or Wicked could still be reconsidered in the future.
Universal expects 8.5 million visitors per year, and plans are already in motion to accommodate the influx:
A new train station at Wixams will be the park’s closest rail stop.
Luton Airport, just a short train ride away, is set to double passenger capacity, providing easy access for international guests.
New slip roads and transport links are planned along the A421 to ease traffic congestion.
A new station on the future East West Rail line is being considered to improve connectivity with Oxford and Cambridge.
Local leaders and government officials are enthusiastic. Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy called it an opportunity to “show off great British creations to the world,” and Bedford’s Mayor Tom Wootton said the region is “proud to be chosen” as the UK home of Universal.
With a blockbuster roster of attractions and deep cultural ties to the UK’s most iconic characters, Universal’s new park is poised to become a major tourism driver and a tribute to Britain’s place in global entertainment. While 2031 feels like a long way off, the BBC’s latest scoop has given fans plenty to dream about in the meantime.
Epic Universe, Epic Impact: Universal’s New Park Powers Job Creation and Economic Growth Nationwide
With the opening of Epic Universe just around the corner on May 22, 2025, Universal Destinations and Experiences (UDX) is not just delivering next-level thrills—it’s fueling an economic engine with national reach. The most ambitious and technologically advanced theme park ever developed, Epic Universe will double the footprint of Universal Orlando Resort, setting the stage for a new era of innovation, tourism, and opportunity in Florida and across the United States.
The development of Epic Universe is transforming Central Florida into a weeklong vacation destination. With three immersive theme parks, one water park, 11 hotels (including three new ones at Epic Universe), and a vibrant dining and entertainment district at CityWalk, the expansion positions Universal Orlando Resort as a premier global vacation hub.
And the ripple effects are massive. According to an economic analysis by UCF economist Dr. Sean Snaith, Epic Universe is generating:
Thousands of new jobs, both on-site and across surrounding communities. For every 1,000 jobs created within the park, another 700 off-site jobs are stimulated in the Orlando area.
$386 million in state and local taxes in its first year.
$120 million in property taxes and $500 million in sales tax revenue.
$230 million invested into public infrastructure improvements.
$13 million in tourism development taxes from increased visitor traffic.
National Investments, Local Impact
From 2018 to 2024, Comcast NBCUniversal has invested more than $10 billion in Universal parks across California, Florida, Texas, and Nevada, solidifying UDX as one of the six core growth drivers for the company. Today, UDX supports over 45,000 jobs nationwide and works with thousands of suppliers, local businesses, and community organizations to drive long-term, sustainable growth.
In Florida alone, the Universal Orlando Foundation has contributed nearly $70 million in grants, donations, and programming between 2019 and 2023—supporting job training, skills development, and expanding access to opportunity across the region.
Universal Expands Across the U.S.
The excitement doesn’t stop in Orlando. UDX is pushing boundaries and expanding its parks business in bold new ways:
Universal Horror Unleashed – Las Vegas (2025): A permanent, year-round horror experience bringing Universal’s iconic monsters and terrifying thrills to life in Sin City.
Universal Kids Resort – Frisco, Texas (2026): A first-of-its-kind theme park designed specifically for families with young children. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift – Universal Studios Hollywood: The first high-speed outdoor roller coaster in the park’s history, bringing the Fast & Furious franchise to life in a bold new way.
DreamWorks Land – Universal Studios Florida: Now open and delighting guests with attractions based on Kung Fu Panda, Trolls, and Shrek, this land adds even more family fun to the park.
Whether you’re a thrill-seeker, a local business owner, or a job-seeker, Epic Universe represents more than just a new theme park—it’s a powerful catalyst for economic development and creative innovation. As UDX continues to invest in world-class destinations, it’s creating unforgettable experiences for guests and real opportunities for communities.
