Aerial Photos Capture Dinoland USA Ahead of Closure

Dinoland U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is set to become extinct, and new aerial photos shared by X user @bioreconstruct provide a glimpse of the land before its upcoming transformation. Slated for demolition, Dinoland U.S.A. will make way for the highly anticipated Tropical Americas expansion, a new land themed after Encanto and Indiana Jones. The images showcase the mini-land in its final days, including Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama, which will close permanently on January 13, 2025.

One aerial photo focuses on Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama, capturing the iconic midway games, TriceraTop Spin ride, and the Dinosaur Treasures store—all of which will see their last guests on January 12, 2025. Another photo provides a zoomed-out perspective of Dinoland U.S.A., offering a bittersweet look at the area before it disappears forever.

The closure of Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama marks the end of an era. Since Primeval Whirl’s permanent closure in late 2021, the land has remained largely stagnant. Now, Disney is preparing to breathe new life into this corner of Animal Kingdom with a reimagined space celebrating the cultures and stories of the Tropical Americas.

While most of Dinoland U.S.A. will be demolished, the popular Dinosaur attraction will remain open through 2025 before being re-themed as an Indiana Jones ride. This Jeep-like thrill ride, which opened with the park in 1998, shares the same track layout as the Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland, making it a natural fit for the expansion.

These aerial photos may be the last chance for fans to see Dinoland U.S.A. in its current form, capturing the charm and nostalgia of a land that has entertained guests for over two decades. With the countdown to closure underway, now is the time to say goodbye to Dinoland U.S.A. and look forward to the exciting future of Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The step count signs are not just about tracking your steps—they come with a sprinkle of Disney magic, offering fun comparisons to help you visualize your progress. For example, 450 steps equal walking five times the height of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and 830 steps cover a distance equivalent to ten times the height of Spaceship Earth. These creative facts add a touch of whimsy to your stroll, turning every step into a journey through some of Disney’s most iconic landmarks.

Whether you’re looking to stay on track with your fitness resolutions or simply enjoy the scenic beauty of Disney Springs, these signs serve as a motivating reminder that every step counts. Disney Springs Wellness Month offers the perfect opportunity to pair your self-care goals with a bit of Disney magic, all while exploring the world-class shopping, dining, and entertainment the area is known for.

Gino the Gorilla Celebrates 44th Birthday with 80s-Themed Bash at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom recently celebrated a special milestone for one of its most iconic residents. Gino the gorilla turned 44 years old, making him not only the oldest gorilla in the park but also one of its original inhabitants from opening day in 1998. The announcement came via a heartwarming social media post from Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment team, highlighting Gino’s legacy and his role as an ambassador for wildlife conservation.

To mark the occasion, Gino’s keepers hosted a festive birthday bash complete with treats and 1980s-themed decorations, paying homage to the year of his birth. His habitat was adorned with cassette tapes, records, and retro vibes, creating a nostalgic party scene for Gino and his family troop. As the resident silverback gorilla, Gino naturally got first dibs on the goodies, a privilege that comes with his leadership role in the troop.

Silverbacks like Gino are more than just impressive figures with their silver-gray saddle of hair—they are the protectors and decision-makers of their gorilla families. Gino ensures the safety and well-being of his troop, embodying the strength and wisdom associated with his role. Yet, despite his alpha status, Gino is known for his playful personality. Keepers describe him as a “goofball” who thrives on interaction and attention. Whether it’s making eye contact with park guests through the viewing panel or entertaining children with his antics, Gino has a unique ability to connect with those around him.

Gino’s life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom serves as a testament to the park’s mission to educate and inspire visitors to protect wildlife and their habitats.

Here’s to Gino, the charismatic silverback who has captured hearts for decades. Happy 44th birthday, big guy—you’re truly the king of the jungle (and the party)! 🎉

Aerial Photos Provide Glimpse of Former Galactic Starcruiser Hotel

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, once the pinnacle of Disney’s immersive experiences, now sits silent and untouched, as new aerial photos reveal. On January 1, 2025, X user @bioreconstruct shared updated images of the now-shuttered Starcruiser hotel. The photos, taken from above, show the facility frozen in time, a stark reminder of its short-lived journey through Disney history.

The Galactic Starcruiser opened with great fanfare on March 1, 2022, offering an unprecedented level of interactivity and themed entertainment. Guests paid as much as $2,500 per night to live out their Star Wars fantasies, from wielding lightsabers to dining alongside characters from a galaxy far, far away. But despite its groundbreaking concept, the Starcruiser closed its doors just 19 months later, on September 30, 2023.

Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro reflected on the closure, candidly acknowledging its shortcomings: “It didn’t perform exactly like we wanted it to perform,” he said. “Despite the fact it was a never-before-seen experience and raised the bar, we thought it was time to sunset this in September.”

The numbers tell the story. According to reporting by Forbes, the boutique hotel, with just 100 guest rooms and a maximum capacity of 502 passengers, could generate up to $13.5 million per month—on paper. But maintaining the immersive, cast-heavy experience came with significant costs. Bookings, which needed to remain consistently strong to support the business model, faltered after the initial wave of curiosity waned.

The Galactic Starcruiser was a monumental investment, with an estimated $400 million spent on its development over nearly a decade. Yet, in just over a year, the experience went from hyperdrive to a $300-million write-off. While it garnered attention and admiration for its ambition, its niche appeal ultimately clashed with Disney’s mass-market business model. As D’Amaro noted at the J.P. Morgan investor conference, “It’s a boutique hotel, it’s 100 rooms. If you think about Walt Disney World, it’s actually got 30,000 rooms. So this is very, very small in the context of what we deliver at Walt Disney World.”

As of now, Disney has not announced plans for the property, which remains largely untouched since its closure. The aerial photos provide a bittersweet look at the Galactic Starcruiser, standing as a testament to both Disney’s bold creativity and the challenges of delivering such a high-concept, high-cost experience. Fans and industry experts alike will be watching closely to see what comes next for this corner of a galaxy not so far away.
