Disney Announces Partnership with Hulu + Live TV Service and Fubo in Surprise Deal
FuboTV Inc. (NYSE: FUBO) and The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement for Disney to combine its Hulu + Live TV business with Fubo (the “Transaction”), forming a combined virtual MVPD company. The Transaction will enhance consumer choice by making available a broad set of programming offerings, and is subject to regulatory approvals, Fubo shareholder approval, and the satisfaction of other customary closing conditions.
Under the terms of the definitive agreement, at closing, Disney will own 70% of Fubo. Fubo’s existing management team, led by Fubo Co-founder and CEO David Gandler, will operate the newly combined Fubo and Hulu + Live TV businesses.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Disney to create a consumer-first streaming company that combines the strengths of the Fubo and Hulu + Live TV brands,” said Gandler. “This combination enables us to deliver on our promise to provide consumers with greater choice and flexibility. Additionally, this agreement allows us to scale effectively, strengthens Fubo’s balance sheet and positions us for positive cash flow. It’s a win for consumers, our shareholders, and the entire streaming industry.”
“This combination will allow both Hulu + Live TV and Fubo to enhance and expand their virtual MVPD offerings and provide consumers with even more choice and flexibility,” said Justin Warbrooke, Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Development, The Walt Disney Company. “We have confidence in the Fubo management team and their ability to grow the business, delivering high-quality offerings that serve subscribers with the content they want and offering great value.”
Combined Business to Provide Enhanced Consumer Choice
Fubo and Hulu + Live TV each provide customers the ability to stream a broad array of live broadcast and cable networks on their connected TVs, mobile phones, tablets, and other internet-connected devices.
Combining the businesses of Fubo and Hulu + Live TV — which together have over 6.2 million subscribers in North America — will facilitate an enhanced choice of programming packages and address a variety of consumer preferences at attractive price points.
In connection with the Transaction, Disney will enter into a new carriage agreement with Fubo that will allow Fubo to create a new Sports & Broadcast service, featuring Disney’s premier sports and broadcast networks including ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, ACCN, ESPNEWS, as well as ESPN+.
Fubo and Hulu + Live TV will continue to be available to consumers as separate offerings post-closing. Hulu + Live TV, a leader in entertainment programming, will continue to be streamed in the Hulu app and be offered as part of the attractive bundle with Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+. Fubo, which streams more than 55,000 live sporting events annually, will continue to serve its subscribers in the Fubo app.
The combined company will negotiate carriage agreements with content providers for both Hulu + Live TV and Fubo services independently from Disney.
Combined Company will Benefit from Synergies
Following the closing of the Transaction, Fubo will be governed by a board of directors with the majority appointed by Disney, as well as independent directors. Gandler will also serve on the board of directors continuing as Fubo’s CEO. The Transaction will provide the combined company with the resources and support of Disney, and the existing Fubo management team will continue to focus on driving growth and profitability.
The Transaction will also enable Fubo shareholders to benefit from synergies of the combination. The combined business will realize synergies through more flexible programming packaging to cater to all audiences, greater innovation, and sales and marketing opportunities.
The combined company is projected to be well-capitalized and cash-flow positive immediately after the closing of the Transaction.
Transaction Details and Litigation Settlement
In conjunction with the Transaction, Fubo has settled all litigation with Disney and ESPN related to Venu Sports, the previously announced sports streaming platform planned by ESPN, FOX and Warner Bros. Discovery. Fubo has also settled all litigation with FOX and Warner Bros. Discovery.
In connection therewith, at signing of the Transaction, Disney, FOX and Warner Bros. Discovery will make an aggregate cash payment to Fubo of $220 million.
In addition, Disney has committed to provide a $145 million term loan to Fubo in 2026 as part of the Transaction.
Additionally, a termination fee of $130 million will be payable to Fubo under certain circumstances, including if the Transaction fails to close due to the failure to obtain requisite regulatory approvals on the terms and conditions set forth in the definitive agreement.
Disney is Testing a New Way to Ride Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
Exciting changes are taking off at Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! A new trial is reportedly underway, and it’s specifically designed to make the single rider experience better for groups of two. This tweak could be a game-changer for couples, friends, and duos who want to enjoy the ride together without committing to the standard standby line.
Traditionally, the single rider queue has been a way to cut wait times by filling in gaps left by standby and Lightning Lane groups. However, this often meant splitting up riders, a dealbreaker for many guests visiting in pairs. The new system Disney is testing changes that dynamic, allowing pairs of guests to enter the single rider line together and stay in the same cockpit during the ride.
One important note: while this system ensures you’ll share the experience with your companion, it doesn’t guarantee specific roles. Whether you’re a Pilot, Gunner, or Engineer, your mission depends on the luck of the draw once you board the Falcon.
This modification comes as a direct response to guest feedback. Many parkgoers expressed reluctance to use the single rider line because of the risk of separation. By keeping pairs together, Disney hopes to make the attraction more appealing while maintaining the efficiency that single rider lines offer, especially for rides like Smugglers Run which requires 6 guests to fill a cockpit.
The trial also raises questions about how it might affect overall wait times. While it has the potential to improve guest flow, true single riders may find their wait times impacted as groups of two are prioritized. For now, the test is ongoing, and Disney has not announced whether this change will become a permanent feature.
If you’re visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios, be sure to check it out! Simply ask a Cast Member at the single rider entrance to see if the two-guest option is available during your visit. This could be the perfect way to explore the galaxy without waiting in a longer line.
What do you think of this new system? Could it make your experience aboard the Millennium Falcon even better? Let us know your thoughts!

Disney Removes AI Artwork From Haunted Mansion Gift Shop in Disneyland
Following significant public criticism, Disney has removed AI artwork from Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond, the Haunted Mansion gift shop at Disneyland.
The Haunted Mansion gift shop, Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond, opened in late December 2024 as part of a larger refurbishment of the attraction’s queue and grounds. However, the shop soon faced controversy when discerning fans noticed that a portrait supposedly depicting “The Bride” appeared to be AI-generated art sourced from Redbubble.
This discovery sparked widespread criticism, leading Disney to swiftly remove the artwork from the shop.
The controversial AI-generated portrait has been removed from Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond just weeks after its opening. This leaves a conspicuous gap in the upper wall displays.
Initially, some fans speculated that another portrait might offer a glimpse of the long-rumored new Bride. However, the use of third-party AI art and props from Amazon has eroded trust. It’s unclear whether the remaining portrait is an original Imagineering creation or another third-party purchase, further fueling uncertainty.
While the new Bride may still make her debut when the Haunted Mansion reopens on January 18th, her appearance remains unconfirmed.
Designed to resemble Madame Leota’s former carriage house, the gift shop features a collection of mystical props and eccentric furnishings left behind by the enigmatic medium. Guests can find Haunted Mansion and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” merchandise within.
Disney Vacation Club Kiosk Removed from DinoLand USA Ahead of Closure
A Disney Vacation Club kiosk in DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom has been removed, just 11 days before the first phase of closures for the upcoming Tropical Americas land.
Before its removal, the kiosk was a familiar sight to guests, positioned conveniently just outside TriceraTop Spin and across from The Boneyard. It filled the space between a caricatures kiosk and a snack cart, creating a small hub of activity. While this particular kiosk is no longer there, Disney Vacation Club members can still find assistance at other locations within the park.
The former kiosk site is now marked by a fence that stretches along its length. Restaurantosaurus stands tall in the background, overlooking the scene. Behind the fence, a screen of potted plants has been erected to obscure the view of construction equipment destined for various animal exhibits.
DinoLand U.S.A. will begin its phased closure on January 13, 2025, with the closure of TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures. These locations will have their final day of operation on January 12, 2025.
For now, DINOSAUR, The Boneyard, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks, and Trilo-Bites will remain open. While a closure date for these locations is expected later, DINOSAUR will operate throughout 2025, ensuring ample opportunity for guests to experience the ride before its eventual closure. Recently, the Alioramus animatronic on DINOSAUR was refurbished with improved articulation.
Walt Disney Imagineering has recently filed a Notice of Commencement for the expansion of the Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This follows the demolition plans filed in fall 2024 and signals the start of construction on the former Primeval Whirl and Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama areas. The new land is set to open in 2027 and will feature exciting additions like an “Encanto” attraction, an Indiana Jones adventure ride replacing DINOSAUR, a giant wood-carved carousel, and the enchanting town of Pueblo Esperanza.
