No Marijuana of Any Kind Allowed at Disney Parks

Cinderella Castle

No Marijuana of Any Kind Allowed at Disney Parks

Disney has taken steps to make it quite clear that no marijuana of any kind is allowed inside it parks.

Previously marijuana fell under the “illegal substances” category on Disney’s prohibited items page. However, with medical marijuana being legalized in so many states, including Florida, it seems that Disney has decided to take a proactive approach and list marijuana specifically.

So don’t head to Disney parks with your stash, even if you have a medical marijuana card you need to leave your weed behind.

Scrooge McDuck Diving into Money Bin

Scrooge McDuck Diving into Money Bin

To celebrate DuckTales premiering at the Radio Disney Music Awards and the D23 Expo, fans were given the opportunity to swim in Scrooge McDuck’s money bin. These same fans will remember Scrooge McDuck’s favorite pastime was to dive off a springboard into his loot and swim around in it.

Take a look at some of the “lucky ducks” who got to try this out!

Disney XD will be the new home of the re imagined DuckTales series later this year.

Who else would love the opportunity to swim laps through Scrooge’s money?

Brush Fires Being Caused By Fireworks From Hollywood Studios

Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks

Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks

The “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular” fireworks at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which premiered a little less than a year ago, has been creating a large amount of brush fires and extra work for emergency workers.

Tim Stromsnes, president of the Reedy Creek Fire & Rescue IAFF Local 2117, says that its Disney’s new staging area for the fireworks that is contributing to the issue. “The problem here is it’s a new site in the woods and they didn’t clear enough land”. The area also needs more sprinklers, he said.

Reedy Creek is the taxing district controlled by Walt Disney World which provides government services to the resort.

“It’s taxing our staff,” Stromsnes said. “We’ve been out there for hours upon hours with multiple fires going on” — about 30 in the past two months.

Orange county has already issued a temporary burn ban due to the extremely dry conditions. This burn ban forbids the use or discharge of fireworks “exclusive of permitted aerial fireworks shows” such as the theme parks put on, Orange County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Kat Kennedy said.

Reedy Creek administrators declined to answer if anything about the site was going to be altered and referred questions to Disney. When asked if Reedy Creek had any suggestions for changes, the district said it “routinely has conversations with Disney and the other operators within the District about the impact, if any, of their various activities.” Disney has given no information on whether any changes are being planned for the fireworks staging area but said that it continuously changes fireworks shows including the size, type, and quantity used based on weather conditions.

In order to comply with the burn ban Disney World has suspended campfires at its resorts.

“How can people not cook hot dogs and hamburgers and have a fire at Fort Wilderness, but can keep shooting off fireworks and causing multiple brush fires?” Stromsnes said. He’s not opposed to the pyrotechnics, he said, but more should be done to mitigate the fire danger.

In late March of this year the state Division of Forestry assisted in containing a fire. This blaze, started by fireworks on the property, burned up to an acre and a half.

“The firemen are always out there just in case. It happens,” said Duncan Dickson, a former executive at the resort who now teaches at the University of Central Florida’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management. “Most of the time the sparks, the fireworks are out by the time they hit the ground, but you do have times when they aren’t.”

Nighttime show fireworks are the cornerstone to Disney’s live entertainment. Removing them from the park’s daily schedule would cause guests great pain. But can we ignore these safety hazards during this time of extremely dry conditions?

Disney Parks Blog shared how Dylan Cole, Co-Production Designer for the upcoming “Avatar” motion picture sequels, captured the bioluminescent world of Pandora at night with two new pieces. One image was inspired by the Na’vi River Journey while the other pictures the beautiful Valley of Mo’ara. In addition to being available as prints, elements from his nighttime artwork were added to apparel, home décor, accessories and other products. Guests will also have the ability to purchase merchandise featuring cave painting art based on sketches by Walt Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde for the Avatar Flight of Passage attraction. Windtraders at Animal Kingdom will serve as the primary merchandise location for Pandora souvenirs.

New Dining Package at Hollywood Studios Offers VIP Seating For Both Music of Pixar Live! and Fantasmic!

Pixar Live

Pixar Live

Hollywood Studio’s  is once again expanding its dining offerings with two new packages that provide guests with reserved seating for the hotly anticipated The Music of Pixar Live! concert which will begin wowing audiences on May 26th.

There are two packages available.  The first is dubbed The Music of Pixar Live! and Fantasmic! Dining package which includes VIP seating for both shows. In addition there is also the standard The Music of Pixar Live! Dining Package which includes tickets to the concert but not Fantasmic!  We hope you are as excited as we are about these new packages.  Here’s the rundown on both.

Minnie Seasonal Dine

The Music of Pixar Live and Fantasmic! Dining Package: Those dining under this package are able to enjoy one appetizer, entree and dessert (or one full buffet) along with a non-alcoholic beverage and a guaranteed seat for The Music of Pixar Live! and Fantasmic! for shows held on the same day.  The restaurants participating in this offer are as follows:

Hollywood & Vine

  • Breakfast – $44 per adult and $28 per child
  • Lunch – $57 per adult and $35 per child
  • Dinner – $62 per adult and $38 per child

Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano

  • Lunch & Dinner – $50 per adult and $21 per child

The Hollywood Brown Derby

  • Lunch & Dinner – $70 per adult and $25 per child

The prices listed above do not included taxes and gratuities. The offer is also available to book under the Disney Dining Plan and costs only 1 Table Service entitlement (or 2 for Hollywood Brown Derby).  Talk about a bargain!

For those interested in making a booking, the package is NOT available to reserve via My Disney Experience as it is considered a special dining event. Instead guests should call 407.WDW.DINE to make your reservation.

This dining plan is a little different than the ones you may have booked in the past where you have your meal first, get a voucher at the end of your meal for seating and then attend the performance(s).  With this package it is possible that one of the shows may be before your dining reservation.  If this is the case,  guests are advised to report directly to Theater of the Stars for the Pixar performance.  There will be a kiosk there where you check-in and get your ticket for this performance only.  Then at the end of your meal you’ll receive the second voucher for Fantasmic!

Hollywood Brown Derby

The Music of Pixar Live! Dining Package –  Similar to the package outlined above, guests are able to take their pick from three Hollywood Studios eateries, receive a meal with an appetizer, entree and dessert (or one full buffet) along with a non-alcoholic beverage and one guaranteed seat for The Music of Pixar Live! held on the same day. Here’s a rundown of participating restaurants:

Hollywood & Vine

  • Lunch – $52 per adult and $32 per child
  • Dinner – $57 per adult and $35 per child

Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano

The Hollywood Brown Derby

  • Lunch & Dinner – $65 per adult and $22 per child

The prices listed above do not include taxes or gratuities.  For those on the Disney Dining Plan, this experience will set you back 1 Table Service Credit (or two for Hollywood Brown Derby). Booking for this dining package CAN be made online via My Disney Experience.

Those interested in booking either package should note that reservations ARE CURRENTLY open.  I was able to book a spot today for the first week in June.  But you should remember that the package doesn’t start until The Music of Pixar Live! officially opens on May 26, 2017.  You should also know that even at this early stage availability is limited.  So you may want to make your booking straight away!

Concept art for new Restaurant to replace Portobello Country Italian Trattoria in Disney Springs

Levy Restaurants, a Chicago-based restaurant company which operates more than 100 food-service locations in the United States and Canada, is excited to announce the development of a new, Italian restaurant concept at Disney Springs. James Beard award-winner and Top Chef Master, Tony Mantuano, is leading the development of the restaurant, which will replace the space at Disney Springs currently occupied by Portobello Country Italian Trattoria.

The new restaurant’s menu will feature dishes inspired by Chef Tony’s adventures across the many regions of Italy.

In order to accommodate the large-scale renovations, Portobello closed its doors April 24 with plans for the new concept to reopen in early Fall 2017.

“We’ve been grateful to serve our loyal guests at Portobello for the last seven years,” said Andy Lansing, President and CEO of Levy Restaurants. “We look forward to welcoming our guests back to the location early this fall when we unveil a new concept at Disney Springs.”
