More Changes Coming to the Menu at Kona Cafe

P1050474
P1050474

kona

We recently reported changes made to the breakfast menu at Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian resort, and now  guests will notice a change to the lunch and dinner menu as well.

At lunch, guests will no longer find the Polynesian Plate Lunch on the menu. The Kona Surf and Turf Burger and the Big Island Tacos are also gone. However, you will find exciting new options that include the Island Style Beef Burger, Lemon Grass-Scented Airline Chicken Breast, and Shrimp Salad with Yuzu Emulsion.

Guests will find the dinner menu is pretty much the same as the lunch menu, and lost dinner menu items include Kona Coffee-Rubbed Pork Tenderloin, Pan Seared Duck Breast, and Grilled Curry Crusted Lamb Chops.

Kona Cafe is known for its amazing Sushi offerings, and luckily sushi remains a menu staple at both lunch and dinner.

For those with a sweet tooth the dessert menu at Kona Cafe has also been updated. We can say farewell to the Warm Apple Tart, Banana Chocolate Crème Brûlée, and Yuzu Citrus Tart. The Kona Kone remains along with Chocolate Fondue, and the Kilauea Torte.

Even with these changes Kona Cafe will no doubt continue to be a Disney guest favorite!

This Memorial Weekend Florida Is Expecting Over 2 Million Travelers

Memorial Weekend

Memorial Weekend

Memorial weekend is just a little over a week away. With schools letting out all over the country, it is generally accepted as the kick-off of the summer travel season. According to AAA estimates, more than 2 million Floridians are expected to travel during the upcoming Memorial weekend. They are part of the 39.9 million Americans that are estimated to make a holiday trip which is a 2.7% increase from last year and the third consecutive year of growth.

AAA also reports that their travel bookings in Florida are up 17% compared to this time last year. Vicky Evans, assistant vice president of travel sales development for AAA said, “Higher confidence, rising wages and recent gas-price declines have bolstered consumer spending, leaving many Americans with more money to spend on travel this Memorial Day.” Falling gas prices, which have dropped 20 cents in the past 21 days, encourage travel as 88% of holiday tourists are expected to travel by car.

Richard Maladecki, president and CEO of the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association, reported that the lodging community is seeing positive numbers and that they’re expecting another successful Memorial Day weekend for their tourism industry.

This Memorial Weekend Florida Is Expecting Over 2 Million Travelers

In the recent weeks though the Central Florida tourism leaders have been addressing declining theme-park attendance and a drop in international visitors. This is expected to turn around with the two big theme park debuts scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. Universal Orlando will open Volcano Bay water park, with its 200 foot high volcano, on May 25th. Two days later Walt Disney World will hold the grand opening of Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Will you be traveling to Orlando to see these theme park debuts over Memorial weekend?

I’m Mary Poppins Y’all: Michael Rooker from Guardians of the Galaxy Stopped By Disneyland for a Special Meet-up

Yondu at Walt Disney World

Yondu at Walt Disney World

Seem strange to see one of the Guardians of the Galaxy posing with none other than Mary Poppins? Think again. In a moment that has fans roaring with laughter, a scene from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 makes this Yondu and Mary meet-up at Disneyland Resort the stuff of social media gold.

Though we here at Chip and Co. don’t want to give too much away to those that haven’t seen the new film, let’s just say that it has something to do with Yondu’s funny re-interpretation of one of Star-Lord’s hilarious pop culture references.

Michael Rooker, who reprises his role as Yondu in the second installment of the film,  stopped by to say “Hello” to Miss Mary  on Main Street USA this week and took time out to Instagram the photo you see above.  Insiders report that he was also spotted on the Storybook Land Canal Boats but no word as to whether he took time out to enjoy the new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission BREAKOUT! attraction that is slated to open in just a few short weeks. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more of the Michael and the rest of the Guardians gang when the attraction officially opens on May 27, 2107.

More Details on the Beauty and the Beast Musical aboard the Disney Dream

Disney Dream

Disney Dream

The new Beauty and the Beast live stage musical is expected to make it’s premiere aboard the Disney Dream this November. Today, Disney is giving us some details on how the recent live-action movie has served as inspiration for this new stage show and the role of the music box.

In the new film, Belle’s father, Maurice, is an artist who creates intricate music boxes. His musical masterpieces are unique with special meaning behind them, particularly one that is a re-creation of where Belle was born in Paris. This same music box propels Maurice to sing “How Does a Moment Last Forever,” the new heartfelt song about holding onto memories by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Tim Rice.

In the new stage musical, the theme of the music box will guide the audience through the story. A combination of high-definition projections, dynamic scenery and a little bit of Disney magic will open the music box to reveal the captivating details of Belle’s journey. To learn more about how the new interpretation of “Beauty and the Beast” will create this outstanding visual panorama, one that reaches beyond the stage, check out this behind-the-scenes video.

Update: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Added to Mickey’s Not So Scary Party Lineup!

MNSSHP

As we reported earlier today, it appeared as if Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was not scheduled to be open during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Parties this year per the official Disney website. This, of course, lead to some upset guests understandably!

However, after we contacted Disney and brought it to their attention that the popular ride was missing form the Halloween Party‘s lineup, we were told a discrepancy report was being submitted to clarify if the popular ride would indeed be closed.

About an hour later, we checked the official Disney website and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was added to the lineup!

Thunder Mountain still does not appear on the list of rides open during the party and Splash Mountain will not be open due to a scheduled refurbishment.

MNSSHP

I know I am excited about 7D Mine Train being open during the party! What about you?

Man Sues Date for Texting During Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2

Guardians

Guardians

A typical first date to see the new Guardians of the Galaxy Movie turned into anything but for a Texas man and woman. It ended Brandon Vezmar filing a petition at a small claims court seeking $17.31 in damages, or the cost of the movie ticket.

Vezmar took his date to see the new movie at a theater in Texas on May 6. In the petition filed with the courts, Vezmar claimed that his date started to send around 10 to 20 messages about 15 minutes into the movie. When Vezmar asked his date to stop and to go outside to use her phone, she did end up leaving for good which left Vezmar with no ride home.

Vezmar accuses his date of “adversely affecting the viewing experience” of moviegoers.

Vezmar requested his date to reimburse him for the cost of the ticket but she refused.

“While damages sought are modest, the principle is important as defendant’s behavior is a threat to civilized society,” his petition says.

The won involved in the incident requested that he name not be used and stated that she only sent about two to three text messages to a friend in need.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace right next to Disney Springs. While I was there only a few days for a special media event from Disney I did have a chance to check it out and give you guys a first hand look at this beautiful hotel.

The Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace recently started an extensive multi-million dollar hotel-wide renovation in 2016 and on my visit many of the updates were complete, the only work left was on the 1 bedroom suites which I did not have a chance to check out this visit.

One of the most noticeable updates was the outdoor pool. The hotel has opened a re-imagined recreation area, Float Lagoon, new pools and cabanas, as well as a new poolside restaurant, Shades, serving lunch and dinner.

Check out some of the photos of the pool and lazy river:

Walking out to the pool area felt like I was being taken to another world (like Pandora:World of Avatar). It was so calm and relaxing. You can tell the designers at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace really took the time to make this area as serene as possible. While this was a very quick business trip I did take a few minutes to relax pool side and do some work. I could have relaxed here all day but I was a little hungry after my EARLY morning flight so I went inside to walk around a little more and grab a bite to eat.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

The Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace has a quick service option called Citrus 28 which was my go to place for water, monster energy drinks, and snacks at the beginning and ending of each day.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

They have everything from Starbucks coffee, to fresh fruit and even soups and sandwiches. I loved the bulk candy section in the corner.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

I was pretty hungry so I wanted a nice sit down meal. I went just next door to the all new Letterpress Restaurant.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

Letterpress is available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have an all you care to eat buffet for breakfast, and they feature delightfully plated meals with locally sourced ingredients for lunch & dinner. They even have a Disney Character Breakfast on Sunday from 7am till noon!

The food here was fresh and delicious. When I went up to get some bacon I asked one of servers if they had any crispy-er bacon or if they could overcook some in the back, he brought out a big ol plate of crispy bacon just for me! That was so nice of him to do that for me, talk about going above and beyond… I dined at Letterpress every morning before heading off to the parks. I was able to get in and get out pretty fast and have a good inexpensive, filling meal before walking around all day at the pakrs.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

The Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace also has in room dining and lobby bar called Sunnies. I was beat at night when I got back to the hotel so I didn’t have an opportunity to check Sunnies out. I will say every night I came back it was quite busy. They had sports on all the screens and there were tons of people talking, laughing and having a good time.

Here are some of the photos I took of Sunnies and the lobby area:

Finally I wanted to share with you my room. The rooms at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace have all been recently renovated and you can tell.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

The refurbishments to the rooms were tastefully done. I was in a king suite with a perfect view of the pool and Disney Springs. It even had a pull out couch if I had the kids with me.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

As you can see the Palace is conveniently located across the street from Disney Springs with access via a new pedestrian skyway bridge.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

The slide out desk was nice and they had power outlets and usb ports all over the room. Which was essential for me as I am charging phones, portable chargers, camera, etc almost every night.

I am not a huge fan of hotel beds. I have back issues and usually wake up very sore. I can honestly say the beds at the Palace were soft, comfortable and like my home mattress I did not wake up sore. For me that is a HUGE bonus.

My only complaint from my room was the shower took a while to get warm on my 2nd night. The 1st and 3rd I had no issues, it just on the 2nd night I had to let it run for a while. No biggie.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

Look how beautiful the pool and Disney Springs looked at night from my room. I was in a Disney Springs facing room but they also offer other views, here is a list of the available guest rooms.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

Many people ask does the Disney Springs Hotels offer bus transportation or any other amenities? All Disney Springs Resorts have buses that run to and from the Disney World theme parks. They break them up into 2 destinations. One bus will go to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, the 2nd bus will run to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. I didn’t have to wait more than 15 minutes for a bus to pick me up the entire time I was there.

Next question is transportation to and from the airport.

Staying at a Disney Springs Hotel you do not get access to the Disney Magical Express, but you have a few choices…

  • Pick up a Taxi at the Airport. I have done this and while its a little pricey it is fast!
  • Take Uber from the airport. Again I have used this service and being picked up at the airport you have to use UBER XL. It costs a little more but you get picked up in a larger vehicle. This is just as fast as a taxi and a little cheaper. Going back to the airport I just used a regular UBER driver. I hear LYFT is an option as well but have never used them.
  • Finally the best option is Mears. For $37 round trip you get picked up and dropped off in a Mears Van. Warning you will have to share the bus with other hotels in the area. On this trip we stopped at another Hilton just down the street and I was the 2nd stop. There were 3 stops total. On the return to the airport I had the van all to myself, of course it was 5am… Book your trip online and use the code Web10 for 10% off your ticket. When you get to the airport just grab your bags and visit one of 2 Mears Kiosks(they are in both terminals). They will assist you with printing out your passes and direct you to the place you wait for your shuttle. I have waited from 5 mins to 15 minutes as I have used this service A LOT! On your return trip to the airport you will need to call the night before and check in. Takes maybe 2-3 minutes. On this trip I lost my return voucher and called into Mears. They verified my info and let the driver know I lost my ticket. It wasn’t any trouble and they were quite friendly. Keep in mind Mears runs the Disney buses so you are going to get good customer service.

Ok so finally I am sure you want to know about the rest of the amenities at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace. They pretty much have everything. You can do everything from order Disney tickets, to storing your luggage till your room is ready. I am going to share a link to their amenities page so you can check it out here.

So in conclusion… if you are looking for a great place to stay, want to save some money, love to hang out at the pool or want to be near Disney Springs the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace would be the right fit for you. The staff is friendly, the rooms are spotless, and it is right there on Disney property. If you are a Hilton member you can take advantage of the Hilton Honors program or you can just pop in for a quick few nights like I did.

My recent stay at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace a Disney Springs Hotel

I will leave you with one little secret. If you are at the hotel at night around Disney World Fireworks time. Go in the main set of elevators and head to the 27th floor. This is the view from the 27th floor and as you can see off in the distance you can see Epcot and Hollywood Studios. There are also windows facing the Magic Kingdom. For now the 27th floor is empty minus some tables and chairs but it is a great place to see the fireworks. If you time it right you can catch all 3 in the same night. How cool is that? Keep in mind there is no music but still it is very cool to watch.

Special thank you to the team at the Hilton Orlando Buena Vista Palace for putting me up for a few days so I can check out their resort. If you have any questions about staying here just let me know in the comment box below!

Captain Jack Sparrow Finally Added to “Pirates of the Caribbean” at Disneyland Paris

Captain Jack Sparrow Finally Added to "Pirates of the Caribbean" at Disneyland Paris

Jack Sparrow fans will have a lot to be excited about when “Pirates of the Caribbean” reopens at Disneyland Paris this summer.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary at Disneyland Paris, the legendary attraction will reopen its doors on July 24th with 2 scenes including Jack Sparrow appearing in several of its unforgettable sequences for the first time in Europe. and that’s not all, “Pirates of the Caribbean” is set to receive brand new latest-generation audio-animatronics, to give your favorite pirates a more lifelike effect.

Both Disneyland and Walt Disney World added Captain Jack Sparrow to the popular attraction in 2006, after the success of the blockbuster films starring Johnny Depp. This left the Disneyland Paris the only park to have the attraction in its original form.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” sails into theaters in the United States on May 26 and May 24 – 26 in Europe.

Who is looking forward seeing the addition of Captain Jack Sparrow at Disneyland Paris?
