Hurricane Irma Forces Closure of Blizzard Beach

Blizzard Beach Closure

With Hurricane Irma bearing down on the peninsula of Florida, Disney has announced the closure of Blizzard Beach for September 8 and 9. This is the second closure announced by Disney World in preparation of the storm. The first closure announced is for the Aerophile Balloon at Disney Springs.

Interestingly enough, an official closure has not yet been announced for Typhoon Lagoon.

It’s important to note that the storm is not expected to start impacting the Orlando area until sometime on Sunday, September 10. I would expect for Blizzard Beach (and Typhoon Lagoon) to be closed past September 8 and 9 until sometime next week.

Disney Springs' APEX by Sunglass Hut Will Become Oakley Store

You soon will be able to purchase your favorite pair of Oakley sunglasses on your next visit to Disney Springs. APEX by Sunglass Hut in The Landing area of Disney Springs has recently closed to be reimagined into an Oakley Store.

APEX opened the Disney Springs location in early 2015. The store sold a variety of Luxottica groups premium, luxury and sports eyewear including Ray-Ban and Oakley.

The new store is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2017 and will continue to sell Oakley’s high-performance apparel and eyewear.

New Sign For "Walt Disney Presents" Goes Up at Hollywood Studios

The Sign for Walt Disney Presents has been unveiled at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

One Man’s Dream, which celebrates Walt Disney and the history of his company, will soon be known as Walt Disney Presents. The the new attraction will still celebrate the history of the Walt Disney Company with various sketches, photos and storyboards. However, the space will also now serve as a preview center for the new attractions and entertainment at the park.

Beginning September 8th, Walt Disney Presents will feature models from Toy Story Land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and a look Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

Star Wars: Galactic Nights Returns This December To Hollywood Studios

This December, Hollywood Studios is hosting the return of Star Wars: Galactic Nights, a special after hours event. Star Wars fans can experience an epic party where the film saga comes to life around you! Don a costume for this galactic gala the entire family will enjoy at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on December 16, 2017 (7:00 PM to midnight)!

Disney Springs’ Aerophile Balloon Closes in Preparation for Severe Weather

Due to Hurricane Irma’s projected path, the Orlando area is expected to see severe weather this coming weekend. The Walt Disney World Resort has temporarily cancelled operations of the Aerophile – The World Leader in Balloon Flight. The tethered balloon is located in Disney Springs West Side, and is the world’s largest hand-painted helium balloon.

There are no times listed for the attraction through September 13th, 2017. Aerophile’s closure prior to the arrival of severe weather is necessary to give crews ample time to safely secure the balloon.

Florida is currently under a state of emergency as they prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Irma. To stay up to date on the latest Walt Disney World information in regards to the hurricane, follow THIS LINK, Chip & Co. will be updating the information as the storm progresses.

With Disney Cruise Line cancelling select itineraries and guests cancelling their Disney World plans this weekend we know that flights also need to be changed. Select airlines are offering their passengers who might be effected by Hurricane Irma a chance to make a change to their booked flights without a change fee involved. Airlines are expanding their change-fee waiver policies, with many offering at least one free change to their flight plans. These changes usually cost passengers around $200 in normal situations.

Grand Floridian Beach Pool Closed for Refurbishment Beginning November 20th

Grand Floridian Refurb

Grand Floridian’s 111,261 gallon Beach Pool overlooking the Seven Seas Lagoon will be closed for refurbishment beginning November 20th. This closure will also affect the Beaches Pool Bar & Grill. Guests staying at the resort, may see or hear construction, but the majority of work will be carried out during the day, starting at 9am. A finish date has not been announced as of yet. During the refurbishment, guests are able to enjoy the Courtyard Pool and the Courtyard Pool Bar.

Visitors with children should note that the Beach Pool Water Play Area will remain open and that the beverage station at Beach Pool Bar will be open for guests on the dining plan to refill their resort mugs.

Guests staying in the weeks ahead should also note that the fitness center of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will close at 4pm this Monday September 11th and will reopen at 5am September 12th in order for new equipment to be installed.

It’s official! Disneyland released word today that the Holiday’s at Disneyland Resort will officially kick off on November 10, 2017 and will run through January 7, 2018. Regulars to Disneyland during the Christmas season will be pleased to know that many of the special holiday offerings that you’ve come to know and love will be back for another spectacular year. Here’s a quick taste of what’s in store:

Disneyland Holiday

Disney California Adventure Park:

“World of Color – Season of Light” – The dazzling mix of water projections, pyrotechnics, music and special effects will be back to dazzle visitors for another year. Watch as Paradise Bay is transformed into a winter wonderland.

“Festival of the Holidays” – A fun-filled festival filled with holiday food and entertainment including the much-loved “Disney ¡Viva Navidad!” celebration. There will also be a Festive Foods Marketplace offering a mouthwatering array of holiday comfort foods spanning many diverse cultures and family traditions.

Santa Claus – Father Christmas himself will be making a return to find out whether Disneyland visitors have been naughty or nice. You’ll find him with his elves at Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.

Cars Land – Wonderfully whimsical Christmas decorations will be on display at this much-loved section of the park. A snowcar will greet guests on the road to Radiator Springs, and each address along Route 66 from Flo’s V-8 Cafe to the Cozy Cone Motel will receive a holiday makeover.

“a bug’s land – This themed area will also undergo a magical holiday transformation as Flik and his friends deck out the land with oversized lights and ornaments.

50-foot Christmas tree – The giant tree will once again appear in all its Christmas splendor on Buena Vista Street.

Disneyland Christmas

Disneyland:

Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle – This iconic centrepiece at Disneyland will be the focal point of magical nighttime snowfall moments that conclude with “Believe … in Holiday Magic” fireworks and its stirring snowfall finale.

Christmas Tree in Town Square, Main Street, U.S.A. – This 60-foot tall beauty will be filled with an incredible 1,800 ornaments. It’s a Disneyland Christmas tradition that needs to be seen to be believed.

“A Christmas Fantasy” – This daily Christmas-themed procession will feature floats, music, marching “tin soldiers” and most importantly Santa!

Santa Claus – Will also be on hand to meet Disneyland guests from his special hideaway in Critter Country.

“it’s a small world” Holiday – This classic Disneyland attraction gets a much-loved holiday makeover each year with the children around the world celebrating their distinctive holiday traditions.

Haunted Mansion Holiday – Haunted Mansion get’s a Tim Burton-esque makeover as Jack Skellington and his friends cause a collision between Christmas and Halloween.

In addition, Downtown Disney, the Disneyland Resort’s shopping, dining, and entertainment district, as well as Disneyland Resort’s on-site hotels, will join in the festivities with twinkling lights and ornaments, holiday displays, special entertainment and holiday dining with themed menus.

Disney Cruise Line Announces Itinerary Cancellations Due To Hurricane Irma

Due to the Hurricane Irma’s current trajectory, Disney Cruise Line has decided to cut short the Disney Fantasy’s current itinerary and cancel it’s following sailing on September 9, 2017. The Disney Dream’s current itinerary has also been cut short with it’s following sailings on September 8th and 11th cancelled as well. Disney Cruise Line has just released the following update regarding the itineraries for the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Magic:

Tropical Weather Update
September 5, 2017 – 7:30 p.m.
Based on the projected path of Hurricane Irma, including its expected impact on the Caribbean and Bahamas, Disney Cruise Line is making the following adjustments to itineraries:

Disney Fantasy
The September 2 cruise of the Disney Fantasy is currently sailing a modified Western Caribbean itinerary and is expected to return to Port Canaveral two days earlier than planned on Thursday, September 7. Guests on this sailing will be refunded two nights of their voyage fare and provided a 25 percent discount on a future cruise, which may be booked by calling 1-855-347-2784 or 407-566-7054 from September 18, 2017, through October 18, 2017.

The September 9 sailing of the Disney Fantasy is cancelled. Refunds will automatically be processed back to the original form of payment used for the cruise booking. Guests are invited to book a future cruise at a 25 percent discount by calling us at 1-855-347-2784 or 407-566-7054 from September 18, 2017, through October 18, 2017.
