Each group navigates a gauntlet of challenging Disney trivia, cryptic puzzles, and scavenger hunts across the park’s immersive lands.

A Team Built on Tradition and “Clutch” Plays

While the competition is open to all lines of business—from custodial to communications—one team exemplified the heart of the event. Led by Claire Embil from Walt Disney World Communications, the squad featured a powerhouse lineup: a veteran from EPCOT Attractions, a representative from Disney Cruise Line Communications, and their “clutch player,” Claire’s mom, Janet.

Janet flies in from Chicago every single year for this tradition. For Claire, the choice to bring her mom as her one permitted guest is a no-brainer.

Orlando attendees also receive a regular popcorn voucher and a bottled drink, making it a pretty sweet movie night perk inside the Disney bubble.

Hoppers introduces Mabel, an animal lover who uses new technology that allows humans to “hop” their consciousness into robotic animals, unlocking the ability to communicate with the animal world in ways never imagined. The film features an impressive voice cast, including Meryl Streep, Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, Piper Curda, and more, and is directed by Daniel Chong with producer Nicole Paradis Grindle. If the concept sounds delightfully wild, that is very much the point.

Orlando just leveled up its transportation game. Waymo has officially launched its self-driving ride-hailing service in The City Beautiful, joining Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio as part of its latest expansion. Riders who have downloaded the Waymo app will begin receiving invitations on a rolling basis, allowing the company to scale smoothly before opening the service to everyone later this year. According to Waymo co CEO Tekedra Mawakana, the company is on track to serve more than one million rides per week by the end of 2026, with Orlando playing a key role in plans to expand into more than 20 cities.

Here is where things get especially interesting for theme park fans. Waymo’s Orlando service map includes coverage near Universal Orlando Resort, portions of Walt Disney World Resort, and Orlando International Airport. That means in the near future, your ride from the airport to your hotel or even between major destinations could be handled by a vehicle that does not need a human driver behind the wheel. Things are sketching up nicely over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as Walt Disney Imagineering has filed four new permits tied to the transformation of The Magic of Disney Animation building in the former Animation Courtyard. The Notices of Commencement cover set installation and electrical work inside the building, plus additional work at the former gateway arch location that was recently demolished.

When you see “install set elements” and “electrical work” on permits like this, that usually means we are past the heavy construction phase and moving into the part where the magic gets plugged in and powered up. Three of the permits resolve directly to The Magic of Disney Animation building, formerly home to Star Wars Launch Bay, while the fourth connects to the old archway entrance site.

Contractors listed include Elite A/V Systems Inc, PCL Construction Services, and Solotech, all familiar names when it comes to Disney show systems and themed builds. In other words, we are talking lighting rigs, audio systems, projection, and all the behind the curtain tech that turns walls into worlds. That lines up perfectly with Disney’s previously announced summer opening timeline.

When The Magic of Disney Animation debuts, it will feature Olaf Draws!, an Animation Academy experience hosted by an Audio Animatronics Olaf from Frozen, alongside real Disney animators guiding guests step by step. There will also be the Enchanted Art Gallery where characters spring to life, the Once Upon A Studio Theater showing the Emmy Award winning short with enhanced effects, and Drawn to Wonderland Playground inspired by Mary Blair’s whimsical concept art.

Add in multiple character greeting locations and the area’s reimagining into a cohesive Walt Disney Studios themed lot, and this former dead zone could soon be drawing crowds instead of dust.
