Magic Was Around Every Turn At This Year’s Disneyland Paris Half Marathon Weekend

DLRP

The Disneyland Paris Half Marathon Weekend just wrapped up and there was so much magic to be had for all participants. The Weekend consisted of runDisney kids races, Disneyland Paris 5k, Disneyland Paris 10k, and the signature event: The  Disneyland Paris – Val d’Europe Half Marathon. Let’s take a look at the some of the highlights from the past race weekend:

The weekend kicked off under the Parisian night sky as runners took to the streets of Walt Disney Studios Park during the Disneyland Paris 5K. Following the 5K, the park opened its doors for a special runDisney event, which included exclusive access to main attractions, Disney characters, commemorative photo opportunities and a DJ party.

New to the race weekend this year, was the Disneyland Paris 10K. The 6.2-mile course ran through Disneyland Paris Resort and was filled with surprises and plenty of Disney entertainment. Runners also showed up in incredible outfits inspired by Disney characters – check out some of our favorites!DLRP

With the addition of the Disneyland Paris 10K, the bravest runners conquered the Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo Challenge, combining the 10K and half marathon races.

Disney is Changing How You Shop with shopDisney Site and Stores

shopDisney

Disney is testing a new major redesign of it’s retail stores for the first time in many years. Along with this new design test, they have re-branded the online site, and it has become shopDisney. New interactive and video options will become a part of the shopping experience as well.

The newly designed stores will feature a smaller selection of items, with employees and displays enticing consumers to find more expansive collections online for all ages. The stores are being redesigned with a more open feel and lower fixtures. According to the New York Times, the newly designed stores will offer experiences such as a child having a battle with Darth Vader on a giant video screen, or being able interact with other characters from the four major franchises: Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel.Cast Members will be able to customize experiences for children celebrating a birthday, a good report card or another milestone. The large screen will show live feeds of parades at Disney theme parks. The new remodel and design is being tested at the two California stores as well as in Nagoya, Japan, and Shanghai. Munich and Miami are slated to be redesigned later this year.

Disney is also launching a new website today, some of us may have already started to see the change. I personally have been being redirected to shopDisney.com for about 2 weeks now. This is Disney’s response to the decline of Brick and Mortar store shopping. While they know store fronts are an important part of it’s sales and customer base, they knew they had to elevate and improve the experiences that we have both in stores and online. Retail has been drastically changing for years, and Disney being the innovative company they are, big changes are expected.

Personally I haven’t gotten used to the new online layout via desktop view. I’m hoping it’s because it’s new and not what I’m used to. The images appear VERY large on the desktop view, and you can only see a few items at a time. The site no longer loads as a different mobile site, and conforms to the phone browsers, which is nice however.

What do you think of the bold new direction the Disney Store and website are headed? Do you like the new shopDisney website, or are you more interested in seeing the new remodeled stores?

UPDATE: WESH 2 News is now reporting that Myriam Luhincadet, who was charged with child neglect yesterday, is an employee at Disney’s Grand Floridian and is related to the mother of the child. She reportedly left work at the resort to pick up the toddler, went back to work where she then left the child in the car alone with the windows cracked. Deputies state that it was 113 degrees in the vehicle when a witness heard the toddler screaming. A Disney spokesperson has said that Myriam Luhincadet has been placed on leave.

On Monday, Walt Disney World Security discovered the toddler around 1:12 pm inside the unattended car. The car had its windows cracked and the doors unlocked.

The 2 year old is reportedly in stable condition and recovering at Florida Hospital Celebration Health. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office told WESH 2 News it is “grateful for Walt Disney World security and the fast response.”

Temperatures today at Walt Disney World reached 93 degrees. At this time it is unknown how long the child was left in the car.

Disney In Heated Contract Disputes With Large Cable Company

Disney In Heated Contract Disputes With Large Cable Company

Cable customers on Long Island and in New Jersey and Connecticut could possibly be losing their access to Disney-owned channels like ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, Freeform, Disney Channel and Disney XD. The fourth largest cable distributor, Altice USA, is in a heated contract dispute with Disney over network carriage rights.

Disney and Altice have been in contract negotiations for months over the price increase that Disney is seeking for the right to distribute their channels. Analysts are saying that this price increase would amount to hundreds of millions of dollars. Disney has threatened that if no deal is reached than their channels will go dark starting October 1st.

Altice USA has responded with a statement accusing Disney of “outrageous” demands for pricing. The statement goes on to tell Disney to “stop the threats” and “focus on negotiating an agreement that is fair”.

Disney then issued its own statement describing Altice USA as greedy and will also begin implementing onscreen crawls and commercials to warn customers that they could be losing their access to ESPN and ABC. “We have a responsibility to make our viewers aware of the potential loss of our programming,” Disney issued in a statement. “We remain fully committed to reaching a deal and are hopeful we can do so”.

Altice USA issued their own statement to customers saying “We are always working hard to negotiate carriage agreements that reflect the best interest of all of our customers. We want to carry ESPN and its sister networks, including ABC and Disney Channel, at a reasonable rate and have already offered an increase.”

Several brides and brides-to-be were understandably upset when Alfred Angelo abruptly closed their doors this past Summer due to their bankruptcy filing. Alfred Angelo was the premier designer of Disney-inspired princess wedding dresses.

We are now happy to report that a new designer has partnered with Disney and is making Disney-inspired wedding dresses! However, there is a catch. The new company, Kuraudia Co., is based in Japan. That means, that the dresses are currently only being offered in Japan. Also, the dresses are only available for rent.I know, I know! Construction Update for the New Wolfgang Puck at Disney Springs

Disney Springs

This past Spring, it was announced that Wolfgang Puck Grand Café would be closing at Disney Springs. It was also announced that a Wolfgang Puck would be opening a new restaurant at Disney Springs called “Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill.” Grand Café closed its doors quietly last month and construction is currently underway on the new location.

Here are some photos we were able to capture over this past weekend showing the concept art on the construction partition walls around the new restaurant:

Construction Update on ‘Jaleo’ Coming to Disney Springs

Disney Springs

Back in June, it was announced that Chef José Andrés would be opening the next location of his popular Spanish-style restaurant, Jaleo, to Disney Springs. Today, we wanted to share some photos of the construction progress on the new restaurant.

As you can see, the construction partitions are still up surrounding the building:

The official Jaleo website gives us more information on the restaurant:

Chef José Andrés is proud to announce that Jaleo will be opening a new location at Disney Springs in 2018, bringing the spirit and flavors of Spain to the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The new Disney Springs location will be José’s biggest and most spectacular Jaleo yet, housed in a dynamic, multi-level space at the iconic resort.

Jaleo at Disney Springs will feature an extensive menu of tapas reflecting the rich regional diversity of traditional and contemporary Spanish cuisine. Highlights will include a variety of authentic paellas cooked over a wood fire, Spanish specialties such as hand-carved Jamón Ibérico de Bellota and wood-grilled Ibérico pork, as well as signature dishes such as Gambas al ajillo, shrimp sautéed with garlic and chili, and Croquetas de Pollo, classic Spanish chicken fritters.

Jaleo is one of the several new restaurants coming to Disney Springs in the next several months.

Sounds delicious! I can’t wait for it to open and give their paella a try!
