Universal Orlando Volcano Bay Closing for 5 Months Next Year and Ending Wearables and Virtual Lines

Universal Orlando Volcano Bay Closing for 5 Months Next Year and Ending Wearables and Virtual Lines

Universal Announces End of TapuTapu and Seasonal Closure at Volcano Bay

Big waves are bringing big changes to Universal’s Volcano Bay! The tropical-themed water park is making a major shift in how guests experience attractions—and preparing for a long winter’s nap in the not-so-distant future.

First up, starting October 1, 2025, Universal will officially retire the TapuTapu wearable system, marking the end of its virtual line experience. Then, just over a year later, Volcano Bay will close for a seasonal refurbishment beginning October 26, 2026, with plans to reopen in late March 2027.

Universal Orlando Volcano Bay Closing for 5 Months Next Year and Ending Wearables and Virtual Lines

Aloha to TapuTapu

Since Volcano Bay’s debut, the TapuTapu wearable has been an iconic part of the guest experience. The colorful wristband allowed guests to:

  • Reserve ride times using the Virtual Line system
  • Trigger fun interactive water effects
  • Open rental lockers
  • And even make contactless food and merchandise purchases

But beginning October 1, 2025, the tech gets the tiki torch. Attractions will no longer use virtual queues, and guests will simply hop in line at their leisure, old-school style. That means no more buzzing reminders, no more tap kiosks—just grab your towel, pick your slide, and go!

Why the Change?

Universal hasn’t officially explained the decision, but many speculate that this move simplifies park operations and brings Volcano Bay more in line with the traditional ride queue systems used across other Universal parks. While some guests will miss the convenience of floating and snacking while waiting for their return time, others may welcome the freedom to choose their own queue destiny.

Seasonal Closure Coming in 2026

Alongside the farewell to TapuTapu, Universal has also announced a scheduled seasonal closure for Volcano Bay. Here are the key dates:

  • Last day of operation: October 25, 2026
  • Seasonal closure begins: October 26, 2026
  • Reopening scheduled: Late March 2027

This marks a longer closure than usual for the park, suggesting significant refurbishments may be in the works—though Universal has not yet revealed the specific reasons behind the extended off-season.

So if you’re hoping to catch one more ride down the Krakatau Aqua Coaster or relax in the TeAwa Fearless River, you’ve got time—but the countdown has begun!

My Second Trip to Epic Universe Was Even More… Epic!

When Universal Orlando named it Epic Universe, they weren’t exaggerating — and after two preview visits, I can confidently say this new park is living up to the hype and then some. My first visit came courtesy of an extended VIP media preview (thanks, Universal!), but my second time around, I joined the masses with an Annual Passholder preview ticket. And let me tell you — somehow, this trip was even more magical, immersive, and jam-packed with adventure. Here’s a breakdown of my experience during round two of Epic awesomeness:

Mac & Cheese Cones That Deserve a Viking Victory

We started our day in the Isle of Berk, and I finally got to try the viral Mac and Cheese Crunch Cones from Hooligan’s Grog & Gruel. Let’s talk about the Dragon Fire Chicken Spire Mac & Cheese Cone — a fiery flavor bomb filled with creamy mac and cheese, Nashville-style pulled chicken, hot honey, Calabrian peppers, chimichurri, and crispy onions, all inside a crunchy cone. Every bite brought the heat, richness, and that herby chimichurri zing. It’s spicy, savory, and downright craveable. Highly recommend this one for foodies and flavor chasers.

Meanwhile, my family opted for the Goldfish Mac & Cheese Cone, a comforting classic that’s creamy, cheesy, and topped with Goldfish crackers for a nostalgic crunch. It’s perfect for younger adventurers or anyone who prefers their Viking feasts without the fire.

IMG

A Show Worth Roaring About

We also caught another showing of The Untrainable Dragon, and even on a second viewing, this stage show stole the spotlight. My family was seeing it for the first time, and their jaws hit the floor. Stunning visuals, heartfelt moments, and some truly magical puppetry — it’s easily the standout live entertainment offering in the park.

Racing into Super Nintendo World

Next, we zipped over to Super Nintendo World, where I got my first ride on Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge. This is not your average kart race. With augmented reality goggles, motion simulation, and interactive gameplay, you’re not just riding — you’re in the game. Steering alongside Mario and launching shells at Team Bowser? Sign me up again.

IMG
IMG
IMG
IMG

Hot tip: even if someone in your party isn’t riding, have them walk through the queue. It’s massive, detailed, and pure Nintendo nostalgia.

Banana-Pineapple Bliss in Donkey Kong Country

IMG

At The Bubble Barrel, we sampled the DK Crush Float — and oh banana, was it good. This over-the-top float combines banana DOLE Whip, Pineapple Fanta, caramel popcorn, chocolate pieces, and sprinkles inside a souvenir Donkey Kong barrel cup (or a standard one with a cute DK spoon!). It’s creamy, fizzy, crunchy, and ridiculously fun — a sweet symphony that’s perfect for DK fans and sweet tooths alike.

Dark Universe: Where Monsters Mingle and Magic Creeps

IMG

Our journey into Dark Universe was filled with unforgettable moments — and not just the rides.

IMG
IMG

Let’s start with Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment — this is now my favorite ride in the park. Yes, it edged out Battle at the Ministry (sorry, wizards). The queue immerses you in gothic horror with some of the best animatronics I’ve ever seen — Victoria Frankenstein and the Monster are both jaw-dropping. Once you board, it’s a heart-pounding tour through the Universal Monsters universe, guided by the ever-chaotic Igor. It’s intense, cinematic, and flat-out thrilling.

Curse of the Werewolf, a spinning family coaster, was more intense than I expected (in a good way). It’s short, sweet, and full of howling fun — but don’t wait more than 45 minutes for it.

IMG

At Das Stakehaus, we dove into the Darkmoor Black Wings — smoky, spicy, and topped with cheddar and charred scallions. They come with a pimento cornbread skull (yes, seriously) and a tangy slaw. These wings packed major flavor and heat — a must-try for spice fans.

IMG

We also tracked down the land-exclusive Screaming Berry soda on the Coca-Cola Freestyle machines. It’s fruity, refreshing, and a great partner to your monstrous meal. On our last trip, we loved the Celestial Spritz soda in Celestial Park too — both are fun, flavorful additions that add some sparkle to your sips.

IMG
IMG

But what truly elevated our Dark Universe experience this time? The meet-and-greets.

ABABB C DE ED c Original
  • The Invisible Man was easily one of the coolest character encounters in the park — you’ll find him just outside Das Stakehaus, offering witty banter and incredible illusions.
  • Across from him, we found The Bride of Frankenstein, and her presence was haunting in all the best ways. Her mannerisms, her voice — absolutely captivating.
  • We also encountered villagers of Darkmoor, including a spooky violin player who told chilling tales while serenading guests with eerie melodies.
  • And then there’s Igor, Victoria Frankenstein’s frazzled lab assistant, who was bustling about looking for test subjects — er, volunteers — for experiments.
IMG
IMG

These live characters brought the land to life, adding personality and atmosphere that made Dark Universe feel like a fully breathing (and maybe slightly cursed) world. It’s this theatrical layer that really sets the land apart and makes it one of the standout zones of Epic Universe.

Ministry of Magic (and a Butterbeer Bonus)

IMG

Before we wrapped up, we stopped by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter: Ministry of Magic. While we didn’t win the virtual queue lottery for Battle at the Ministry, we did grab a Butterbeer (served in a collectible stein, naturally) and tried out some of the interactive spell locations — which are loads of fun.

Epic After Dark

IMG

As the sun set, Epic Universe truly lived up to its name. The nighttime atmosphere is nothing short of magical — glowing signage in Celestial Park, Stardust Racers whizzing through the sky, and the dreamy streets of Paris inside the Wizarding World made for an enchanting end to the evening.

IMG
IMG
IMG
IMG
IMG

We even treated ourselves to Valet Parking, thanks to our Premier Annual Pass. Not hiking back to the car after 12 hours of theme park thrills? Chef’s kiss.

Final Verdict

IMG

Even after two visits, I still haven’t done it all — and that’s part of the charm. Universal’s Epic Universe is layered, immersive, and built for repeat adventures. Whether you’re racing through Mario Kart, running from werewolves, sipping Butterbeer in 1920s Paris, or just soaking in the after-dark vibes, this park offers an experience that is, well… truly epic.

Time Turner Popcorn Bucket Coming Soon to Universal Orlando

A Magical Design with Movie Magic Roots

First seen at Universal Beijing Resort and currently available during Universal Studios Hollywood’s Fan Fest Nights, this intricately designed popcorn bucket draws its inspiration from the Time Turner featured in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The iconic device, used by Hermione Granger to bend time and attend multiple classes, now doubles as a whimsical way to carry your buttery snacks.

The design is nothing short of spellbinding. The golden bucket features:

  • A rotating set of concentric rings, reminiscent of the Time Turner’s gyroscopic frame
  • An hourglass centerpiece filled with shimmering pearlescent “sand”
  • A star-studded circular casing on either side of the hourglass
  • A rear compartment that cleverly opens to hold popcorn—yes, this Time Turner is more than just decorative!

Topped off with a dark ribbon strap embossed with gold lettering, this collector’s item is as functional as it is enchanting.

A Timely Tie-In to Epic Universe

This popcorn bucket’s arrival is especially fitting, as Epic Universe’s Wizarding World – Ministry of Magic land features a Turner icon at the top of its entry portal. That Time Turner is not just decorative—it symbolizes the land’s time-traveling transition, transporting guests from the modern-day park into the 1920s Paris setting of the Fantastic Beasts films.

It’s a clever bit of synergy that links the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts storylines while offering fans a chance to take home a piece of the magic.

We’re Loving the Tangled-Themed Displays Inside EPCOT’s Living with the Land

It’s no secret that EPCOT is bursting with color during the International Flower & Garden Festival—and one of our favorite hidden gems is blooming inside the greenhouses of Living with the Land! Since the festival kicked off in early March, the Creative Greenhouse section of the ride has been transformed with a Tangled-inspired makeover that’s equal parts charming and whimsical.

If you are visiting the festival for the first time this year, be sure to hop on Living with the Land to check out this display, which continues to wow guests (including us!) with its clever nods to Rapunzel, Pascal, and all things Tangled.

Here’s why we’re totally enchanted:

  • Sunshine and Bloom Power: Planters are decked out with the golden sun crest from the Kingdom of Corona, accented with purple flags and floral bursts that would make any long-locked princess swoon.
  • Towering Style: One of the vertical growing structures has been cleverly dressed up to resemble Rapunzel’s iconic tower—complete with her cascading braid spiraling down the column and topped with a lilac cone roof. We’re calling it the hairicultural highlight of the whole greenhouse.
  • Arts, Crafts, and Pascal Cameos: Keep an eye out for the artsy nods to Rapunzel’s creative side—canvases with floral interpretations of key Tangled moments, a paint palette, and even a frying pan on display (because of course). And yes, Pascal may be hiding in plain sight among the flowers!
  • Festival Magic Meets Fairytale Charm: This overlay fits perfectly within the ride’s theme of innovation in agriculture and sustainability, making it a natural fit for Rapunzel’s free-spirited, nature-loving personality.

So grab your sketchbook, hop on a boat, and prepare to be charmed—Rapunzel-style!

Canada Pavilion Restrooms in EPCOT Reopen After Long Closure

After a hiatus of several years, a welcome convenience has returned to EPCOT’s Canada Pavilion. Guests visiting this scenic World Showcase stop will once again find public restrooms readily accessible near the entrance of the newly unveiled Chateau de Voyage. This reopening marks a significant improvement for parkgoers exploring the Canadian landscape and its latest addition, offering greater comfort and ease as they immerse themselves in the pavilion’s offerings.

The reopened public restrooms can be found on the second level of the Canada Pavilion. This area was previously closed off to accommodate construction for the new Disney Vacation Club Welcome Home Center, Chateau de Voyage. With the Chateau now welcoming guests, Disney has also reopened the small restroom facilities located in the previously inaccessible buildings on this level. Look for the restroom building to the left of the Chateau de Voyage entrance, near the staircase leading down to the Canada Pavilion’s lower level by the waterfall. Notably, this building has existed for some time but had been closed to guest access since at least 2020.

canada bathroom

Resembling a cozy stone house, the restroom building features bright white windows and a coordinating white doorframe. A small bench invites a momentary pause beside the window, where a charming basket of flowers adds a touch of natural beauty. Above, the roof shingles display a blend of earthy orange, soft faded green, and neutral gray. To clearly indicate its current use, a white restroom sign has been installed to the right of the entrance. This sign incorporates decorative black swirls, floral designs, and a subtle fleur-de-lis around its perimeter.

Previously, when the Canada Pavilion restrooms were closed, the closest options for guests were the facilities located within the United Kingdom Pavilion and the Rose Walk restrooms, which are situated along the walkway heading towards the Imagination! Pavilion. While the United Kingdom Pavilion restrooms received a refresh in early 2024, both options required guests in the Canada Pavilion area to walk a distance to access them.

Keep an eye out for whimsical beach props like a sand-sculpted Cinderella Castle, cool Mickey’s Surf Co. surfboards ready for a ride, and a collection of fun pool floaties just waiting to be splashed. A charming brown wood fence and lush tropical plants add the perfect touch of island charm to this delightful summer scene.

The tropical beach scene also features several fun nods to our beloved blue alien, Stitch. You’ll spot a plush Stitch lounging on the lifeguard chair, adding a touch of mischief to the setup. Keep an eye out for Stitch’s image adorning various towels and playful toys cleverly placed throughout the backdrop, offering delightful surprises for fans.

This delightful summer-themed photo opportunity might also offer a fun nod to the highly anticipated live-action “Lilo & Stitch” film, set to make a splash in theaters on May 23rd. The tropical vibes and Stitch-themed elements could be a subtle way to get fans excited for the movie’s upcoming release.
