New “it’s a small world” Tumbler Available at Disney Springs

New "it's a small world" Tumbler Available at Disney Springs

We recently shared with you the availability at Disneyland of this adorable new “it’s a small world” themed tumbler. We are excited to let you know that this popular Disney souvenir is now available for Walt Disney World guests! While supplies last, “it’s a small world” cups can be purchased at the Marketplace Co-op in Disney Springs.

Disneyland fans can still pick up a tumbler at the Wonderland Gallery in Downtown Disney. Designer Jerrod Maruyama announced the offering of the limited-edition tumbler at Disneyland last week on Instragram.

If these cups are anything like the Disney Enchanted Rose Cups, supplies may go fast!

Drive In for Sci-fi Dine In Theater’s New Menu Items

Drive In for Sci-fi Dine In Theater's New Menu Items

Hands down the restaurant, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, that we enjoy the most for a strong dose of atmosphere, is the Sci-Fi Dine In Theater.  In the past, we have enjoyed visiting just for an appetizer and a milkshake as we were never very fond of the food here.  A recent visit has caused us to highly recommend you Drive In for the Sci-Fi Dine In Theater’s New Menu Items.

The menu is posted outside the restaurant in a fun display case.  As you enter the Sci-Fi Dine In Theater you can stop for a cup of iced water.  We love the Speed Limit Sign at the water station.  We did not have a reservation so we asked at the entrance podium if there was any space for hitchhikers.  Luckily we would have less than a 30 minute wait. We gave a phone number so they could text us when our Car was ready and were told we would have 10 minutes to return.  We love this feature of not having to remain just outside the building with one of those old pagers!

The menu now features some new additions to include Sci-fi Wedge Salad, Chili-Lime Salmon Fajita Salad, Classic American Burger, Vegetarian Falafel Burger, Southern Burger and the Drive in BBQ Burger.  If you enjoy Boneless Chicken Wings, you can now choose from 3 dipping sauces; Spicy Buffalo, Chipotle BBQ, or Sweet Chili Sauce. Thankfully, the Milkshakes are still on the menu.  The Kids Meals Menu features the Mickey Check Meals such as Grilled Salmon or Whole Wheat Penne Pasta.  If those choices do not appeal to your little ones, they can choose Macaroni & Cheese, Cheeseburger, or Popcorn Chicken.  The alcoholic drinks menu boasts Cosmic Concoctions, Sangria, Wine and Beer.

For our Allergy-conscious fans there is an allergy-friendly menu available.  If you have an allergy in your party, the Chef will come out to speak with you about your allergies.  Dessert is always a fan favorite, and we recommend anything on this list that suits your tastes as everything is delicious.  Too full for dessert?  That’s okay because you can try one of their Specialty Beverages like the Baileys and Coffee or the Godiva Chocolate Martini.

The Milkshakes are our absolute favorite item on the Sci-fi Dine In Theater Menu and we started with the Chocolate as this is a personal favorite.  The Oreo Cookie is the most popular Milkshake on the menu and be sure to ask about any Specialty Milkshakes as these will not be listed on the menu.

We ordered the Drive in BBQ Burger with a side of Macaroni and Cheese.  The Burger typically comes with French Fries, but one of us is not a fan of them so the Chef was more than willing to allow the substitution.  We did not know what to expect but the Macaroni and Cheese was excellent.  The four-cheese combination, along with the Bacon-Panko Crust on top, was a brilliant combination of flavors.  The Drive in BBQ Burger had us feeling a bit skeptical as it is topped with both Fried Jalapenos and Crispy Onion Straws.  Combined with BBQ Spice, House-made BBQ Sauce, Bacon and Cheddar on a Brioche Bun this creation was better than we imagined it would be.  This was also the very first time we have ordered a Burger cooked to Medium at the Sci-fi Dine In Theater, and actually had it arrive cooked medium.  The crunch of the Crispy Onion Straws went really well with the Fried Jalapenos.  We like a little spice with our meals and we thought if the Fried Jalapenos were too hot, we would just remove them.  That was not to be the case as these ingredients, when placed together, provide the perfect flavor for a juicy burger.

Drive In for Sci-fi Dine In Theater's New Menu Items

We are firm believers in the fact that no meal at Walt Disney World is complete without dessert.  We opted for the House-made Sci-fi Candy Bar.  This dessert is made with White and Dark Chocolate Mousse with Crispy Pearls sandwiched between Sponge Cake and dipped in Chocolate Ganache.  Add fresh Strawberries with Cream and Caramel drizzle and you have your Candy Bar!  You cannot go wrong with any items on the dessert menu, but this is a Fan Favorite and now we know why.

Your Car-hop will escort you to your Car at the Drive-in Theater.  The Drivers sit in the front seat and may have a Hitchhiker or two join them in the back seat.  If you are not a fan of the car set-up you can request a table as well.  The tables are located on either side of the Concession Stand.  Hitchhikers, and Drivers alike, are sure to enjoy the movie reel on the big screen.  The atmosphere has always been one of our favorites of the Disney restaurants.  If you have never been to a Drive-in Theater then you must check this place out during your next visit to the Walt Disney World Resort.

Drive In for Sci-fi Dine In Theater's New Menu Items

We can now safely say that we strongly recommend a visit to the Sci-fi Dine In Theater, not just for the Milkshakes and the atmosphere, but for the food as well.  The Burger was the best burger we have ever had at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the Macaroni & Cheese is truly something special.  Be sure to Drive In for the Sci-fi Dine In Theater’s New Menu Items.  You will be glad that you did.

Epcot’s Frozen Ever After Dessert Party Review

Epcot's Frozen Ever After Dessert Party Review

Epcot’s Frozen Ever After Dessert Party opened on July 17th.  This fun new party replaces the Illuminations Sparkling Dessert Party and we were on hand to experience opening night.  From the fun desserts, priority viewing of Illuminations and a no-wait ride on Frozen Ever After, here is our Frozen Ever After Dessert Party Review.

Mother Nature was not very cooperative for the first night of the Frozen Ever After Dessert Party.  This actually worked out quite well as the party was moved indoors to the Norway Loft.  We did not even know there was such a thing!

A Cast Member escorted us up to the Norway Loft via a slightly hidden door that we had never noticed before.  The Norway Loft is used f wedding receptions and other special events.  We were greeted by Brian and Michael with a sparkly silver wristband and a pair of Frozen 3D glasses.   Another Cast Member escorted us to our assigned table number 3, Kristoff, and we were just fine with that.

The desserts are Frozen themed as you would expect for a Disney party.  The Snowflake Blue Velvet Cupcakes were certainly the most popular dessert choice.  We liked that there was a savory option, to offset all of the sweet choices,  with brocoli and bread to dip in a cheese fondue.  Fresh fruit was also available and this made for a nice healthy option.  Not pictured were the Double Chocolate S’mores Pudding Cake and Warm Cottage Pudding with Salted Caramel Glaze with hand-dipped vanilla ice cream.

There is a bar set up featuring such items as Sangria, Beer, Wine and Summertime Celebration Margarita.   In the main room you can choose fun non-alcoholic drinks such as Frozen Heart or Oaken’s Big Summer Blowout.  There is a table set up for coffee and tea as well.   You will be assigned to a table of 10 so this event is a great opportunity to make new Disney friends!

At approximately 8:40pm we were escorted to our VIP viewing area for Illuminations.  The view alone may make the Frozen Ever After Dessert Party worth the cost with its unobstructed views.  The opportunity to not have to reserve a spot an hour or more ahead of time is also a huge plus.

After viewing Illuminations, we waited a few minutes for the crowd to pass before being escorted to the Frozen Ever After Ride.  Another great plus about the dessert party is that you will walk right on to this ride that normally sees upwards of a 1-2 hour wait during normal business hours.  Since we get to ride essentially after Epcot has closed, there is no line whatsoever.

Our one complaint is the time allotted for this event.  While you can check in around 7:30-7:45pm, the dessert party portion is completed in an hour or less.  We would love to see this extend another 30 minutes to allow some time to relax and actually enjoy some of the food and beverages on offer.  Many will say that the $79 per adult, and $49 per child (3-9), cost is not worth a handful of desserts, but you have to look at the whole picture.  You will make new friends, enjoy specialty desserts and beverages that are not found anywhere in the parks, VIP Viewing of Illuminations and a no-wait experience at the Frozen Ever After ride.  If you can find it in your budget, this is at least a one-time have-to-try-it kind of experience.

The Dress Shop Is Returning To Cherry Tree Lane at Disney Springs

The Dress Shop Is Returning To Cherry Tree Lane at Disney Springs

Have you ever heard of the The Dress Shop? If not then you should definitely check it out on your next trip to Disney Springs. It’s a new apparel and accessories collection created especially for Disney Parks that debuted this spring. These fantastic pieces were created for guests who want to emulate their favorite Disney characters or theme park attractions in a fun, retro way. The Dress Shop will be returning to Cherry Tree Lane in the Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs on July 27.

David Soliman, area manager for merchandise presentation at Disney Springs, gave insight into how his team created the shop-within-a-shop inside the Marketplace Co-Op. “Since the collection gives a nod to mid-century style, we wanted to create a space that would feel sophisticated and unique while complementing the overall story of the Marketplace Co-Op,” explained David. “The dresses and accessories are colorful and beautiful, so we found many ways to prominently showcase them throughout the shop. The best example is the hatbox-inspired platform that greets guests at the entrance. It’s a striking visual that pulls people into the location.”

Something this great doesn’t just happen over night. It took several months for the merchandise presentation team to plan and design the overlay of the store. Even after that, it took an additional week to install the display items and create the visual graphics.

The Dress Shop even received its very own monogram through a partnership with the Creative Services Team and graphic designer, Mariana Martinez.

“The team wanted something subtle and elegant so I started doodling using the letters ‘D’ and ‘S’,” said Mariana. “We ended up with a lovely monogram that guests may find hidden on the product displays. It’s a funny coincidence that ‘DS’ could also represent ‘Disney Springs’ [laughs].”

As you walk around the store you will notice beautiful shadowbox displays that feature Mariana’s sketches of the the dresses included in the collection. Other items were also included like Disney artwork and fabric trimmings used during the development of the collection.

“[The shadowboxes] serves a simple visual item that pulls the whole program together,” continued David. “The vignettes resemble inspiration boards that a designer may have used when creating the overall collection.”

Other fun elements were also included in the decor of The Dress Shop, including vintage dress patterns, antique scissors, colorful spools of thread, and a fantastic mirror featuring the shop’s logo.

One of the exciting things about the return of The Dress Shop is that it also brings a brand new Cinderella-inspired dress that contains metallic embroidery. It joins the collection of the already stunning 10 dresses inspired by the Haunted Mansion, Enchanted Tiki Room, Orange Bird and so many more.

The Dress Shop arrives at Cherry Tree Lane in Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs on July 27th. Don’t worry west-coasters it’s also coming to Vault 28 at Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort.

I don’t know about you but I absolutely love that Minnie Mouse inspired dress. The Orange Bird dress is also calling my name too. So many dresses, so little time! Which one is your favorite?

Pixar Themed Medals for Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend

Disneyland Half Marathon

The Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend is just around the corner and runDisney has debuted the medals runners will receive, upon completing their races. Pixar is the theme for this year’s half marathon, which seems fitting with the Disneyland Resort’s upcoming Pixar Pier and Pixar Fest.

The medals feature characters from some of our favorite Pixar films, and I am absolutely loving each design. I only wish I was more motivated to participate in the weekend’s events! Let’s take a look at these fun medals the runners will be receiving.

Pixar Themed Medals for Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend

Who doesn’t love Dug and Russell from Up?! The adorable duo is featured on the medal going to participants of the runDisney Kids Races presented by GoGo squeeZ Applesauce on the Go. If you look closely you’ll see a shoe badge, the badge was designed by Disney/Pixar artist Paul Conrad who also created Wilderness Explorers badges from the movie. The Kids Races will take place on September 2nd.

5K races are the perfect event for the entire family to enjoy together, as they are great for all levels of runners. The Disneyland 5K finisher medal really celebrates family, featuring the most Incredible Pixar family of all! The 5K will kick off at 5:00 a.m. September 1st and the course will feature characters and entertainment along the way.

I love the Disneyland 10K medal featuring Mike and Sulley from Monster’s Inc. This dynamic duo always has me laughing and the design of this medal makes me wish for a 3rd movie! Doesn’t it look like they are peeking through the door at Boo?

Runners completing the Toy Story themed Disneyland Half Marathon will be taking home a finisher medal featuring Buzz, Woody and Jessie. The half marathon will be taking place on September 3rd, with live entertainment and characters celebrating at the finish line.

The final medal will be given to runners participating in both the Disneyland 10K and Disneyland Half Marathon. 19.3 miles over two days, the Double Dare medal is iconic Pixar and features a small 5 in celebration of this year being the 5th annual Disneyland Double Dare.

I really love each of these medals and am excited to see Pixar being represented more. Tasha Sounart, the Associate Creative Director at Disney/Pixar actually teamed up with runDisney to help design all of the medals being presented during race weekend.

Three Shops to Close at Downtown Disney

Three Shops to Close at Downtown Disney

We are sad to announce that three popular retailers at Downtown Disney in Disneyland will be closing their doors to make room for more restaurants in the area. The three neighboring stores that are scheduled to close are Build-a-Bear Workshop, Chapel Hats, and Ridemakerz. The shops are not closing because of poor performance but just to make room for the additional dining locations.

Disneyland Resort spokesperson, Melissa Britt, stated that there is currently no plans or room to relocate the shops but if something would become available, it would be evaluated.

Here’s a little more information on each shop that is closing:

Build-a-Bear Workshop allows guests to create their own personalized bear and dress it up as they chose. The bears are even “stuffed” right inside the store and then packaged up to be taken home. There are several other locations throughout the United States and the world.

Chapel Hats has only been open for a little over a year when it replaced the Little Miss-Matched shop. There are currently 15 other locations of this hat shop including at Disney World.

Ridemakerz allows guests to create and design their own remote-controlled car or truck. There are currently two other locations in Missouri and South Carolina.

There is no word on the official closing date of the three stores. There is currently a Splitsville Luxury Lanes scheduled to open in Downtown Disney. Should be interesting to see what other restaurants might come to the area.

‘Talking’ Town Square Mickey at the Magic Kingdom Receives an Upgrade

Town Square Theater

Town Square Theater

One of the attractions that I consider a must-do for my clients at the Magic Kingdom is Talking Mickey at the Town Square Theater. There is nothing better than seeing the faces of Mickey’s littlest human friends light up when Mickey is talking and interacting directly with them.

We are happy to announce that this magical Mickey received an even more magical enhancement with lots of new interactions added to his repertoire. In the past, one of his favorite responses was “Sounds fun, pal!” Now he is able to get even more personalized as documented in this tweet below:

ADA Accessible Minnie Vans Have Rolled Into Disney World

Minnie Vans

The official Minnie Vans rolled onto the streets of Walt Disney World just a week ago. Today, we are happy to report that the ADA Accessible versions of this new Uber-like service are up and running as well.

The ADA Accessible Minnie Vans can accommodate one ECV or wheelchair. It can seat up to four passengers including the passenger who remains in the the ECV or wheelchair.

The Minnie Van will take you to and from any place on Disney property for a flat fee of $20. Last week was the “soft opening” of this service and was only offered at three resorts. We are under the impression that the service area has since been extended to include more resorts it not completely resort-wide.
