New Online Check-In Feature Available On My Disney Experience App

A recent upgrade to the My Disney Experience earlier this year brought new features to guests like mobile ordering and PhotoPass photo alerts. Today a brand new feature is being unveiled: Online Check-In.

New Online Check-In Feature Available On My Disney Experience App

When guests stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel they will be able to use this new service on the My Disney Experience mobile app. It will expedite arrival and give guests flexibility to customize their experience. The feature enables Guests to start the check-in process up to 60 days before their arrival, bypassing the need to visit the front desk. So as soon as guests set foot in Walt Disney World their vacation is all set to begin. Guests complete their check-in by unlocking their room, when it is ready, using the MagicBands sent to them prior to their arrival.

New Online Check-In Feature Available On My Disney Experience App

This new feature will allow guests to make room requests, add credit card information and authorize charges, submit an estimated arrival time to help prompt room access, receive a notification when their room is ready and more. It should be noted that room requests are not guaranteed and guests must provide consent to receive notifications.

Guests can begin the check-in process up to 60 days in advance but can also be done even just minutes before, even as their riding on Disney’s Magical Express to the resort.

Don’t worry, front desk and concierge cast members will still be available at all resort hotels to assist guests at their leisure for the duration of their stay.

To take advantage of the Online Check-In service and other features, be sure to download the latest version of My Disney Experience, now available in the App Store for iOS devices and Google Play for Android devices.

Disney's Magic Bench Technology Could Change the Future of Park Attractions

Disney is known for its state-of-the-art technology, and its incredible ability to immerse it’s park guests in their favorite movies. The latest technology from Disney Research takes that immersion to a whole new level. They’ve combined physical space and virtual space to create a mixed reality, allowing people to share space with animated characters.

Disney's Magic Bench Technology Could Change the Future of Park Attractions

Mixed reality technology has required users to wear gear, like headsets, to immerse themselves in the technology. Disney Research has changed the game by creating what they call the “Magic Bench” giving users a multi sensory experience, free of wearable technology. Users sit on the bench, which also allows groups to enjoy this interactive experience together, and face a mirrored display, providing a third party point of view. Depth sensors and haptic actuators create the feeling of actually being there and interacting with the characters. Users will hear animated characters as they are coming, see them as they enter the space, and feel them as the interact with the bench.

As shown in the video, participants were able to interact with animated characters, one user even caught a ball from a character.

The possibilities with the Magic Bench are endless. With no need for wearable gear, the fully immersive experiences can be enjoyed together, among large groups. Just imagine how amazing this technology would be in a park attraction!

In fact, Disney Parks Blog recently posted about the new Mickey and Minnie ride coming to Hollywood Studios, saying “you’ll step through the movie screen and join Mickey and his friends like never before,” with Disney Imagineers calling the attraction “game-changing” using what they are calling a new “2 1/2 D” experience. Could this new technology be the same we are seeing with the Magic Bench? Only time will tell.

Mobile Ordering is Now Available at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe

On May 27th, Disney World launched their mobile ordering service via the My Disney Experience app. Initially, mobile orders were only available for Satu’li Canteen in Animal Kingdom’s Pandora – The World of Avatar, but over the last two months Disney has expanded the service to multiple locations around the parks. The latest addition is Magic Kingdom‘s Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe, located in Frontierland.

Pecos Bill is a quick service restaurant serving up delicious mexican dishes, my favorite being the Fajita Platter!

Mobile order is still in its early stages, credit cards are currently the only from of payment accepted. Guests wishing to use a Disney dining plan or passholder discounts will need to order with a Cast Member at the register. Below is a list of mobile ordering locations across the Walt Disney world Resort:

Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe (Tomorrowland)
Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe (Frontierland)

Marvel Studios Debuted a New Trailer for Thor: Ragnarok at Comic-Con

The San Diego Comic-Con was held this past weekend, and during the Marvel Studios presentation in Hall H a new trailer for Thor: Ragnarok was released, along with a new poster for the film. (pictured above) In the latest Thor film, we see a new villain rise, Hela – Godess of death, in an attempt to destroy the Asgardian civilization. After surviving a gladiatorial contest against fellow Avenger, The Incredible Hulk, Thor journeys back to Asgard to save his home world and its people.

I am excited about Hulk and Thor teaming up, although I think adding Loki to their team is just asking for trouble! Thor: Ragnarok premieres in theaters November 3rd, 2017. Will you being seeing the latest Thor film in theaters?

5 New Additions to Universal Orlando in 2018 and Beyond

It’s been a huge year for Walt Disney World especially with the announcement made during this year’s D23 convention that a lot of new rides and attractions are set to be unveiled in the years ahead. With all the focus placed squarely on the Mouse, its easily to lose sight of what’s been happening with Orlando’s other theme park juggernaut – Universal Orlando. As a matter of fact, we think there’s a lot to get excited about when it comes to new rides, attractions and seasonal offerings at Universal Orlando. Here’s a run down of some of the upcoming additions that have us the most excited.

1. Christmas at Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Universal really seems to be going from strength to strength but one area where they haven’t been able to compete with Disney’s is the Mouse’s massive Christmas-time celebrations. However, it looks like Universal may soon become a contender with an announcement that starting on November 17,2017, Christmas will come to Wizarding World. The celebrations will include decorations, special holiday entertainment, seasonal dining offerings and a projection show onto Hogwarts Castle.

In addition Universal Orlando will also be running a new Universal Holiday Parade starring Macy’s with floats and balloons featuring much loved characters from films like Madagascar, Shrek and Despicable Me

2. Fast & Furious: Supercharged – Opening in Spring of 2018 this ride promises high-octane trills as you ride alongside some of your favorite Fast & Furious friends from Dom and Letty to Hobbs. A similar ride opened at Universal Hollywood back in 2015 and though riders should not expect the same exact experience, it gives an idea of the amazing ride that’s in store.

3. Aventura Hotel – Universal’s newest hotel is slated to open in August of 2018 next to Sapphire Falls Resort. It promises views of all three Universal theme parks and will be the second Value Resort (next to Cabana Bay). It will have a contemporary theme with over 600 rooms and will provide a combination of guest rooms and family suites. Other features include a rooftop bar and the use of a tablet to control the air conditioning, lights and TV’s in your room. For guests that like to plan ahead, Universal Orlando is currently offering a $50 Dining Credit for early bookers who stay for 4-nights or more.

Super Nintendo World

4. Super Nintendo World – Speculation is that Super Nintendo World could be taking the place of Woody Woodpecker’s Kid’s Zone and opening at Universal as early as 2020. With a similar project already announced for Universal Studios Japan, guests could presumably expect something comparable. The land promises to be incredibly immersive with potential attractions including both Mario Kart and Donkey Kong rides.

5. New Harry Potter-themed Coaster – The Universal community is abuzz this week with the news that Dragon Challenge will close to make way for a new Harry Potter themed thrill ride. Guests can expect an attraction big on Harry Potter-theming and storytelling where they’ll encounter many of the characters from the books. There aren’t a ton of details out there just now but the attraction is scheduled to open in 2019.

Refurbishment Coming to Disneyland Park's River Belle Terrace

Disney recently filed permits with Anaheim, CA to refurbish Disneyland Park’s River Belle Terrace restaurant. Located in Frontierland, the table service restaurant is known for serving up home-style dishes with Southern hospitality.

While no closure dates or length of refurbishment have been announced, the permits filed with the city show a sizeable amount of work will be done to the River Belle Terrace. The permits show a 2,458 s.ft reconfiguration of the restaurant’s kitchen and dining area. Along with new interior walls there will be electrical, mechanical, and plumbing work done, as well as three new light posts.

Morimoto Asia at Disney World’s downtown shopping district, Disney Springs is getting into the Summer spirit with a new late-night menu jam-packed with a range of exciting new cocktails as well and tasty new dishes. Here’s a sneak peek at what visitors heading to the Forbidden Lounge for some late night eats will find on the menu.

Kushiyaki “Grilled on a Stick” – chicken yakitori (2pc), pork skirt steak (1pc), miso marinated black cod (1pc) $8.00

Beef Bulgogi Nachos – wonton chips, thinly sliced soy marinated beef short ribs, gochujang sauce, jalapeños, cheese, scallions $8.00

Cashu Pork Quesadilla – pulled braised pork belly, caramelized red onions, spicy mayo, blended cheese $8.00

Menchi Katsu Sliders – 2 pcs – chef morimoto’s award-winning fried hamburger slider, kimchi mayo, japanese barbecue sauce, green papaya slaw $8.00

Smoked Manhattan – junmai sake, makers mark bourbon, ginger liqueur, orange bitters and hickory smoke $8.00

Blackout Dates for Silver and Weekday Select Annual Passholders Lifted for the Beginning of August

By now, we all know that the Great Movie Ride and Ellen’s Energy Adventure will be closing for good on August 13th. If you have a Silver or Weekday Select Annual Pass and wanted to ride either of these rides one last time, you were going to have to purchase a regular park ticket as your AP was scheduled to be blacked out the beginning of August. Well, good news! Sources online say that the Disney is lifting the blackout dates on these APs from August 1 to August 13.

Silver Annual Passholders will be allowed to visit any day during this time period. Weekday Select Passholders will be able to visit any weekday during this period with the weekend still being blacked out.

Gold, Platinum, and Platinum Plus Passholders have no scheduled blackout during these dates so are not affected by this temporary change.
