Disney Fantasy Changes Course Due to Tropical Storm Franklin

Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line

The Disney Fantasy is currently on a 7-night Western Caribbean sailing that departed Port Canaveral, FL on August 5. Today, the itinerary called for a stop in Cozumel, Mexico but that has been changed to due Tropical Storm Franklin.

Tropical Storm Franklin formed overnight in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to make landfall near Cozumel this evening. There is the potential for the storm to further strengthen to a hurricane by the time it makes landfall.  The Yucatan Peninsula, where Cozumel is located, is currently under tropical storm and hurricane warnings. Reports of seas from eight to ten feet have been reported making it unsafe for the Fantasy to sail into the area.

Disney Fantasy

So far, the ship is expected to return to it’s scheduled itinerary tomorrow with a stop in Grand Cayman. From there, the Fantasy is scheduled to sail to Jamaica on Wednesday and Castaway Cay on Friday before returning back to Port Canaveral on Saturday.

As a travel agent, I receive questions all the time when it comes to cruising and hurricanes. It is extremely rare for a cruise to be completely cancelled due to a hurricane. However, as in this instance, advanced technology allows ships to be diverted around  bad weather so everyone can go on to still have a magical and comfortable time!

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Brings Spooktacualr Fun for the Whole Family to Magic Kingdom

MNSSHP Magic Kingdom

MNSSHP Magic Kingdom

Have you ever been to a Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom? If not, you are missing out on fun frights and ghoulish delights that the whole family will enjoy!

With trick-or-treating throughout the park, bewitching  fireworks under a pumpkin moon, costumed characters on parade, a wickedly joyous Villain Spelltacular and much more, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party brings frightful fun to Magic Kingdom Park for a record 32 select nights, August 25 to November 1, 2017.

Mummies, daddies and their kids are in for a devilishly delightful time in this after-hours ticketed event guaranteed to make for boo-tiful memories. Not-So-Scary means just that – the party is family-friendly as only Disney can do and appropriate for children of all ages.

For ghouls and goblins eager to get the party started, August 25, 2017 marks the earliest-ever launch date for the popular event.

Neighborhood trick-or-treating was never like this! Halloween handouts of sweets, treats, snacks and more happen throughout the park. Meantime, most of Magic Kingdom’s iconic attractions are available for all to enjoy.

Get your Halloween on! Dress-up is encouraged for ages 13 and under. Theme park rules for costume look and guest safety can be found at disneyworld.com/Halloween.

Among the eerily entertaining events:

  • Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular. Chills, thrills and villains join in a wickedly fun celebration hosted by the Sanderson Sisters, a trio of witch sisters from Disney’s live action film Hocus Pocus. The mischievous sisters are joined by dancers, more Disney Villains and other-worldly visual effects. It’s a Halloween party not to be missed, and it takes place at Cinderella Castle Forecourt Stage.
  • Happy HalloWishes. This fireworks spectacle high above the Cinderella Castle lights the night. Guests are encouraged to sing along with some of the most infamous Disney Villains, including Cruella de Vil, Jafar and Oogie Boogie. Creepy colors crawl over the castle, a spell is cast and it’s every guest for themselves.
  • Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade. Led by the Headless Horseman, it’s masquerade mania as favorite Disney characters dress up for the occasion and ghostly floats bring the frights and sounds of the season to Main Street, U.S.A. and other Magic Kingdom viewing locations.
  • Cadaver Dans Barbershop Quartet. Deadpan humor and other antics from this Dapper Dans-style “band” scare up the fun in Frontierland.

Admission for select nights to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party starts at $74 per person ages 10+, $69 ages 3-9. Hours 7 pm-midnight.

Guests bobbing for even more Halloween fun can sign up for the special-ticketed Happy HalloWishes Dessert Party. Ticketed Not-So-Scary guests can also pair the event with a table-service dining experience. Even Disney PhotoPass Service gets in the spirit. Who knows what surprise guest will magically materialize in your photos?

Want to take your selfie with some rare Disney characters? Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is your opportunity to do just that! In years pasts, Snow White and all of her Seven Dwarf friends have been in attendance!

New Permits Give Us an Update on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Construction at Disney World

Star wars land D23

Star wars land D23

Star Wars Land (officially Star Wars: Galaxy Edge) at Disney World is scheduled to open in 2019. We here at Chip & Co have been tracking the progression of the Land closely to keep our readers informed with up-to-the-minute updates. Orlando Business Journal pulled the most recent permits filed for the project to give us a sense on what construction will be going on at the project in the coming months.

The new permits are for the “core & shell” and “foundations and structural steel” of “Disney Project D.” “Project D” is rumored to the code name for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. While structural and foundation work has been ongoing for some time, the “core and shell” permits hint at the possibility of some vertical construction which would allow guests to have their first glimpse of the Land over the construction gates. The permits for this stage of construction expire on September 26, 2017. So, if you have plans to be at Disney as early as the end of next month, you might be able to see a thing or two!

How excited are you for the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios?

Yesterday, August 5, the Disney Magic made an emergency stop during its 10-night Mediterranean cruise. While traveling from Sicily to Palma, Majorca, flares were spotted launched by the refugees and the large vessel altered course immediately. 11 men were discovered stranded on a tiny vessel 70 miles south of Sardinia.

The Disney Magic crew contacted the Italian Coast Guard and then held its position 4 hours until help arrived. The refugees shouted their thanks to the Disney Magic as the coast guard arrived to rescue them.

It’s no secret that Fall is my favorite time to visit Walt Disney World. If you time it right, there are lower crowds and lower resort rates, festive Halloween decorations, and yummy treats to try at EPCOT’s International Food and Wine Festival. Exotic eats are on the menu at Satu’li Canteen including healthful create-your-own bowls and bao bun pods stuffed with meat or spicy vegetables. Out-of-this world beverages and refreshing treats await at the Pongu Pongu specialty-drink location.

The day isn’t complete without a stop in Windtraders. This fun and immersive retail location offers more than 200 unique merchandise items, so guests can take a little piece of Pandora back home with them. There’s a banshee rookery where you can select your very own banshee. With a digital scan of your face, ACE Avatar Maker lets you create a personalized Avatar action figure. Disney Cruise Line Provides Back-to-School Essentials to Deserving Children

Disney Cruise Line

It’s hard to believe but back-to-school season is here! Kids all around are out shopping for new backpacks, notebooks, and other back-to-school essentials. Unfortunately, some children don’t have the opportunity to get new back-to-school items every year. That is where Disney Cruise Line has come in. They have teamed up with a local school district near Port Canaveral, FL to make sure deserving children have the opportunity to pick out their own back-to-school essentials.

Every child should be able to start the first day of school feeling confident they have the tools they need to succeed. But for many, basic school supplies are considered a luxury.

To help make sure children in the local homeport community near Port Canaveral get off to a good start, Disney Cruise Line teamed up with the Brevard School Foundation Supply Zone for Teachers to participate in the 15th annual “Back to School Giveaway Event.” This week-long campaign provided more than 2,000 deserving children with new back-to-school essentials.

“This event wouldn’t be possible without our community partners,” said Elizabeth Schreiber, Program Manager at the Supply Zone for Teachers. “We need volunteers who can help us pack these backpacks, pack the lunches and man the tables on the day of the event. And, thanks to Disney Cruise Line, we are able to accomplish this.”

Disney Cruise Line Provides Back-to-School Essentials to Deserving Children

Over the course of two days, crew members from the Disney Dream and cast members from our Port Canaveral team volunteered their time to sort thousands of school supplies and prepare student lunches leading up to the Supply Zone for Teacher’s main event.

Cindy Todisco, Disney Cruise Line Embarkation Coordinator shared that she regularly participates in Disney VoluntEARS activities, but this particular event was very personal to her since she has school-aged grandchildren. “For me, this is a way to give back for everything that my children received in school,” said Cindy.

As children and families filed into the school gym to collect their supplies this past Saturday, crew members from the Disney Fantasy were on hand to staff a library section – a special new addition to the event this year. The crew members shared their own love for reading by helping the children select books that they could take home.

This is just one of many ways Disney Cruise Line cast and crew members support the Supply Zone for Teachers. Disney VoluntEARS regularly assist the organization with operational needs, ensuring both teachers and students in Brevard County are set up for success, not just during the back to school season, but all year long.
