  9. Place 1 inch apart on a prepared baking sheet.
  10. Cover and rise for 45 minutes, or until puffy
  11. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  12. Bake fruit bites for 18-20 minutes, until light brown.  Cool for 10 minutes
  13. While cooling make the vanilla sugar by melted butter in one bowl and combining the vanilla and sugar in another.
  14. When ready to serve, coat the bakes fruit bites in melted butter and then roll in the vanilla sugar.  Dust with powdered sugar to serve.

Pizza Ponte at Disney Springs Is Officially Open For Business

Pizza Ponte Disney Springs

A new restaurant at Disney Springs opened its doors today. Pizza Ponte which is one of a trio of restaurants opening up in the new building that will also house The Edison nightclub began serving up slices today.

Slated to be a new favorite spot for Disney Springs locals to enjoy a quick bite, the Sicilian-style pizzeria offers pizza by the slice, made-to-order sandwiches and handmade Italian pastries.

Check out Disney’s tweet announcing the official opening:

The other two eateries housed in the same complex are expected to open shortly.  This includes Maria & Enzo’s an Italian trattoria set in an abandoned airline terminal from the 1930’s. The restaurant will offer a delectable menu inspired by the dishes of Sicily. Then there’s  Enzo’s Hideaway Tunnel Bar which evokes the ambience of a Prohibition Era speakeasy and will offer up and impressive menu featuring traditional cocktails and light bites.  The Edison an industrial gothic nightclub housed in the same building will officially open on  New Year’s Eve.  The event is certain to be a vaudeville meets Coney Island sort of shebang.

Readers are encouraged to keep following along with Chip and Co. for the latest details and reviews of these four amazing additions to Disney World’s downtown entertainment and shopping district.

Discovering The Flying Fish and AbracadaBar Lounge On Disney’s Boardwalk

Flying Fish

The re-imagined Flying Fish restaurant at Disney’s Boardwalk re-opened last year with a beautiful new interior, an all-new menu, and expanded wine list. It celebrates the heyday of luxury seaside resorts and boardwalks of yesteryear. The inspiration for the fresh design is none other than the beloved flying fish of Disney’s BoardWalk, which are subtly suggested throughout the location – from upholstery patterns to kitchen tiles.

A clear-glass school of artful fish and bubbles is suspended from the stretched-fabric ceiling, adding a lightness to the dining room. White linens, wood, tiled walls and deep-blue carpet add a richness to the space that features an open kitchen and 191 seats. An elegant private dining area room at the back of the restaurant showcases part of the extensive wine collection.

The popular “Chef’s Counter” is redesigned, now with seating for 12 at three separate tables directly in front of the open kitchen, where a six-course dinner with its own menu is offered, said Chef Tim Majoras.

Majoras, who was has been on the Flying Fish team since 2011, is at the helm in the kitchen, where sustainable fish is the star of the new menu. Starters include Blue Crab Bisque with jumbo lump crab, melted leeks, aged sherry and tarragon crème fraîche; corn-crusted wild Gulf shrimp, and Tour of the Coast with Atlantic skate wing, clams, mussels and shrimp. Along with sustainable fish, entrées include planch-seared Hokkaido scallops; Wagyu filet mignon; Maine lobster Nero Pasta with golden tomato sauce, young artichokes and fennel pollen, and bison striploin.

New high-tech wine technology allows more special wines by the ounce, and the restaurant has more storage capacity, with nearly 300 labels, and almost 80 by the glass. The popular wine flights are back, as well as an all-new cocktail menu.

AbracadaBar Lounge

Discovering The Flying Fish and AbracadaBar Lounge On Disney's Boardwalk

Next door, the new AbracadaBar “curious cocktail lounge” combines the Golden Age of Magic with the magic of Disney storytelling, with whimsy in the design from the Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) team that creates stories in true Disney fashion.

According to WDI, the lounge was once a secret stomping ground for famous touring magicians, local boardwalk illusionists and the loveliest magician’s assistants of the day. After every magic show, these prestidigitators would gather at the bar, where they’d conjure up new cocktails, swap magic tips and tricks, and often stay up all night attempting to “out-charm” each other with their extraordinary illusions.

Discovering The Flying Fish and AbracadaBar Lounge On Disney's Boardwalk

Look for cocktails such as “The Conjurita,” with Gran Centenario Plata Tequila, Cointreau, simple syrups and lime juice; the “Parlor Trick” with Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon, simple syrups and a splash of soda water, and “Pepper’s Ghost” with Cîroc Pineapple Vodka and habanero lime.

And, the story continues, it was on just such an evening that every single magician in the lounge vanished into thin air, never seen again. And after sitting vacant for nearly 70 years, the secret magician’s lounge is now back in the spotlight.

While it’s rumored that the magicians who frequented the lounge vanished without a trace decades ago, their magic still remains strongly intact, and can be seen, heard, and even savored in the bar’s signature cocktails. From its enchanted magic show posters and mystifying mirrors to vintage props and tricks left behind years ago, AbracadaBar is true immersion in Disney storytelling.

Petition Formed for ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ To Be Streamed To Children’s Hospitals

Star Wars The Last Jedi

Star Wars The Last Jedi

We received an email today from Chris Baker. Chris is a Star Wars superfan. Unfortunately, he is also currently in the hospital while undergoing cancer treatment.

Chris was bummed that he wasn’t able to know who The Last Jedi is while all of his friends were able to go to the movie theater to see the new movie while he is stuck in the hospital. Chris is also sure there are other children in the hospital who would love to see the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise so he formed a petition to have The Last Jedi streamed to children’s hospitals.

So far, the petition has over 14,000 signatures and his campaign has even been noticed by Mark Hamill and Laura Dern! News station WUSA 9 has also picked up the story. You can watch their segment here:

Good luck, Chris! We wish  you all the best and hope both of your battles are won in the near future!

Dining Options Across The Disneyland Resort

Disneyland Dining

One of the best thing about visiting Disneyland in California is the amazing food! I know that many of you die-hard Disney World fans out there will hate hearing this but when it comes to eating, Disneyland does it better. There is something here for everyone, whether you are looking for a fine dining experience with a stellar wine program or the most heavenly corn dogs your taste buds have ever experienced.

Fine Dining

The rise in fine dining at the Disneyland Resort is often an unexpected delight. At the hotels, top award winners are Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel. Trained sommeliers have elevated the quality of dining service throughout the Resort in restaurants including Napa Rose, Steakhouse 55 and Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge at Disney California Adventure Park.

Healthy Choices

Even though my motto at Disney is “calories don’t count”, Disneyland chefs do provide healthy options. For lifestyle dining options, or for requests from guests with food allergies or intolerances, there are a wide range of choices, from kosher to gluten-friendly and sugar-free.

For families, the Mickey Check makes it easy to identify healthier food options in the all of the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, part of an ongoing program that launched in 2006 with nutrition guidelines. Choices that receive the Mickey Check must meet Disney Nutrition Guidelines that limit calories, saturated fat, sodium and sugar. For example, Blue Bayou Restaurant in Disneyland Park now offers seared salmon, spaghetti, broccolini and fresh fruit for kids. (Kids’ Complete Meals must be ordered without substitutions and include at least three of the following food groups: fruits and vegetables; low-fat dairy; whole grains; or lean protein, beans, eggs and nuts.)

The Mickey Check also appears on some Disney-licensed food products sold at retail locations, on qualifying recipes at Disney.com and Family.com, and on menus at quick-service restaurants at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts.

Dining Inside Disney California Adventure Park

At Disney California Adventure, Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge is designed to be one of the premier dining locations at the Disneyland Resort. The cuisine is the star, with artisan ingredients, locally sourced produce, seafood and meats from throughout Southern California.

Also found on Buena Vista Street are three spots for quick bites: Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe serving Disney baked goods and Starbucks La Boulange™ pastry items along with Starbucks coffee and espresso beverages; Mortimer’s Market with whole and cut fruits, bottled water, juices and soft drinks; and Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream.

Dining Options Across The Disneyland Resort

Cars Land has three spots for guest to fuel up: Flo’s V8 Cafe with an on-stage rotisserie and house-made pies; Cozy Cone Motel with tasty cone-theme treats from churro bites to chili “cone” queso; and Fillmore’s Taste-In with whole and cut fruits, bottled water, juices and soft drinks.

Also at Disney California Adventure, guests can grab a sandwich or sweets at Pacific Wharf Café. Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill offers tacos with steak, pork, or grilled chicken. Hearty Asian creations are served at Lucky Fortune Cookery, with beef, chicken or tofu with vegetables, rice and your choice of four sauces.

The dining pavilion in Paradise Pier provides plenty of seating and two restaurants. Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta offers something for everyone, from hearty pasta dishes to delicious salads and pizzas with flavors from traditional cheese to vegetarian with roasted seasonal vegetables. Next door, Paradise Garden Grill offers a Mediterranean spin with chicken, beef, vegetable and tofu skewers served with a choice of sauce, including Moroccan chili tomato and tandoori-spiced yogurt. Refreshing Greek salads and a kid’s menu also are available. The menu at Paradise Garden Grill occasionally changes to reflect special seasonal offerings and events being celebrated at Disney California Adventure.

Corn Dog Castle serves a popular beach snack in two flavors, original and hot-link. Bayside Brews offers domestic and specialty beers on tap for guests 21 years of age and older, along with a selection of non-alcoholic beverages and warm, salted pretzels.

In Grizzly Peak, guests can enjoy the updated menu at Smokejumpers Grill, which offers American classics and tasty new items such as the spicy buffalo chicken sandwich or vegetarian BBQ jackfruit sandwich, each served with waffle-cut fries or onion rings. For the junior smokejumpers, options include chicken tenders and grilled cheese sandwiches.

To while away a lunch, dine al fresco at Wine Country Trattoria at the Golden Vine Winery, with a menu of pastas, grilled sandwiches and California wines by the glass. At dinner, the menu adds braised beef ravioli, herb-roasted chicken alfredo and braised lamb shank. The Alfresco Tasting Terrace, on the second floor of the Golden Vine Winery, offers small plates of classic Mediterranean favorites complemented by wines from the “Disney Family of Wines,” a collection whose vintners have a personal connection to the Disney name.

Dining Inside Disney Disneyland Park

In Disneyland Park, favorite quick bites include Disney baked goods and Starbucks La Boulange™ pastry items along with Starbucks coffee and espresso beverages from Market House on Main Street, U.S.A.; lobster bisque or clam chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl and shrimp salad from the Harbour Galley in New Orleans Square; sandwiches and sweets from the Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe on Main Street, U.S.A.; easy-to-eat skewer snacks at The Bengal Barbecue and the legendary Dole Whip at the Tiki Juice Bar in Adventureland; Mickey-shaped beignets from the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square; hot pizza from Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port and a variety of Star Wars-inspired menu items from Galactic Grill in the Tomorrowland Terrace location, both in Tomorrowland.

Dining Options Across The Disneyland Resort

For a relaxing meal, spots such as Carnation Café on Main Street, U.S.A., serve generous salads and the legendary loaded baked potato soup, along with Walt’s favorite meatloaf and fried chicken. Guests will find lunchtime favorites like fish and chips, chili in a sourdough bread bowl and ice cream sundaes, in an entertaining indoor setting at The Golden Horseshoe in Frontierland. Enchanting Blue Bayou Restaurant in New Orleans Square, one of the most- requested reservations, offers diners specialties such as gumbo, jambalaya and filet mignon.

Cafe Orleans, also in New Orleans Square is the perfect spot to people watch as you grab a bite—fan favorites include the fried green tomato sandwich and famous Monte Cristo sandwich. Casual, family-friendly eats are on the menu at Plaza Inn on Main Street, U.S.A., and River Belle Terrace in New Orleans Square, a table-service location serving up barbecue favorites. For authentic Mexican, Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante in Frontierland dishes up taco and burrito platters and now serves breakfast. Hungry Bear Restaurant, nestled in the shady trees in Critter Country, is a favorite for Disney fans who recommend the burgers and funnel cake.

Character Dining

For a leisurely way to enjoy a delicious meal and time with Disney characters as they stop by each table for photos and autographs, make reservations for a Character Dining Experience. These include:

Dining Options Across The Disneyland Resort

  • Disneyland: Plaza Inn on Main Street, U.S.A., daily Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park.

Downtown Disney

The Downtown Disney District offers diverse flavors and a variety of choices for any palate, from spicy pasta jambalaya and grilled bourbon-glazed salmon at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen to Skuna Bay salmon and suckling pig at Catal Restaurant. The Downtown Disney District is conveniently located just outside the theme parks and near the hotels.

Hearty dishes (and 175 TV screens, including the ones in the restrooms) give ESPNZone diners plenty of energy for the restaurant’s interactive ESPN Zone Sports Arena. For California-inspired cuisine, take a seat at La Brea Bakery, and try a grilled panini or homemade soup.

For Mexican, it’s Tortilla Jo’s handmade tortillas; for Italian, Naples Ristorante e Pizzeria and adjacent Napolini for thin-crust pizzas, pastas, soups and sandwiches. Kids love the tropical storms, waterfalls, aquarium and live parrots at Rainforest Cafe, where guests enjoy choosing from more than 50 varied items on the menu.

The original Starbucks location at the Downtown Disney District brings one of the coffee company’s most engaging experiences to guests with technology and content designed specifically for this store, including an interactive touch screen and 10-foot video installation. In addition to its regular beverage and food selection, the store offers some of the rarest coffees available. In 2016, a second popular Starbucks location was added to Downtown Disney next to Disney Vacation Club near the Disneyland Hotel and Disneyland Monorail Station.

Security Changes Coming to Disney World Resort and Disney Vacation Club Resort Rooms

Grand Floridian

Security Changes Coming to Disney World Resort and Disney Vacation Club Resort Rooms

I received a call from a client today asking about a potential change coming to Disney World Resort hotel rooms. Online reports stated that “Do Not Disturb” signs at select Walt Disney World Resorts were being replaced with “Room Occupied” signs. Reports also indicated that Disney has also changed their policy reflecting that a Cast Member will be permitted to enter your room daily regardless if there is a sign on your door or not. Previously, if the”Do Not Disturb” sign was displayed, the Cast Member would not enter it without probable cause.

After receiving the call from my client, I called Disney to check on this and they did indeed confirm this rumor. Beginning today, the following Disney World Resorts will have the “Do Not Disturb” signs replaced. Cast Members will be permitted to enter a Guests’s room at least once every 24 hours. This new change is referred to the “Right to Enter” policy. The Resorts are:

The new policy will eventually be extended to all Disney World Resorts in the near future.

Grand Californian

In addition, changes are coming to Disney Vacation Club rooms. As of today, December 22, DVC rooms at the five following DVC Resorts will have daily trash service. (Previously, trash was only removed once every four days.)

Disney has not stated exactly why these changes are being made but one can guess these are security changes stemming from the Las Vegas Massacre back in October. The changes also might be due Disney making changes to their dog policy where they now allow dogs in rooms at select Disney World Resorts.

Other than these changes coming to the DVC rooms at Disney’s Grand Californian Resort & Spa, no other changes for Disneyland Hotels or Disney’s Vero Beach and Hilton Head Resorts have been announced at this time.

What do you think of these changes?
