‘The Dream Called EPCOT’ - Disney Releases Rare 1980 Promo Video

Disney is throwing it way back today with this great video find in the Disney vault – “The Dream Called EPCOT”. This amazing video offers behind the scenes look at the 1970’s “Imagineering” of EPCOT Center.

The film originally was on display at the EPCOT Preview Center located in the Magic Kingdom Park. The film gave guests a look at the exciting new theme park that was soon to come. Sneak peaks at attraction models, renderings and animation for The Living Seas, Horizons, World of Motion, CommuniCore and Spaceship Earth, as well as early construction footage is all included in “The Dream Called EPCOT.”

You can even hear the first release of the music composed for EPCOT including songs like “It’s Fun to Be Free,” “Universe of Energy” and “Listen to the Land.”

‘The Legend of Conch Flats’ and Other Special Tours Engaging DVC Members

A variety of special tours are now being offered to Disney Vacation Club Members to learn more about the places they call “home” at Disney Vacation Club Resorts. One of those featured is “The Legend of Conch Flats” tour at Disney’s Old Key West Resort.

This 45-60-minute complimentary walking tour for DVC Members and guests of all ages explores resort’s Hospitality House, revealing how Walt Disney Imagineers blended historical fact and charming fiction to create this tropical oasis. The tour departs Papa’s Den (adjacent to the lobby) on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10 a.m. No advance registration necessary. Participants receive an exclusive pin (pictured above) celebrating Conch Flats, the imagined setting of the resort that put Disney Vacation Club on the map.

There are also other Disney Vacation Club Resort that offer tours at Walt Disney World Resort. These tours range from special safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to an art-and-architecture tour of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

The Starlight Safari experience at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is reminiscent of a nighttime drive through an African game reserve, leading Members and guests on an open-sided safari vehicle through the resort’s wildlife-filled savannas. The hour-long expedition departs daily at 10 p.m. as is priced at $74.17 a person plus tax.

Also available at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is the Sense of Africa experience, a three-and-a-half-hour tour and breakfast that begins with an exploration of the resort’s cultural inspirations, continues with a special breakfast at Boma – Flavors of Africa and culminates with private savanna and backstage tour. Priced at $249 a person plus tax, the Sense of Africa experience begins on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 7 a.m.

The “Wonders of the Lodge” art-and-architecture tour of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is a complimentary, hour-long experience that highlights the creative details and classic craftsmanship of this majestic resort. Tours begin at 9 a.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, and no advance registration is necessary.

At Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, the “Floridian Express” experience is an hour-long walking tour that examines the resort’s inspirations and takes a behind-the-scenes look at its AAA Five Diamond restaurant, Victoria & Albert’s. Available at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, the “Floridian Express” tour is priced at $15 a person plus tax.

Note that all tours mentioned are available for booking through Member Services, with the exception of “Wonders of the Lodge” and “The Legend of Conch Flats.”

It has been 80 years since Walt Disney’s animated classic, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” made it’s theatrical debut. Carthay Circle Theatre in Los Angeles hosted the films premier to a record-breaking audience on December 21, 1937. To celebrate this momentous milestone Magic Kingdom guests will be introduced to a newly released “Dream Big, Princess” handbag collection by Dooney & Bourke on September 30 in Uptown Jewelers.

Paola Gutierrez, Senior Graphic Designer with Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Creative Group, spoke about the creation of the artwork for this Snow White inspired collection. “I wanted to capture the visual effect of stained glass for this collection,” explained Paola, an artist at Disney Parks for more than 20 years. “You will see Snow White’s familiar colors of blue, red, and yellow in the artwork. Since rubies are usually associated with 80th anniversaries, we emphasized the color red. This is best seen with the red trim accents on each handbag, and with the iconic red apple incorporated throughout the design.”

The collection will include three bags, a Tote, a Satchel, and a Crossbody. The Tote will display an engineered design of Snow White, which means she will appear the same on all Totes released. The Satchel and Crossbody bags will feature an allover, repeating pattern. Each bag will also include specially designed hangtag that includes Snow White’s autograph.

“Designing the ‘Dream Big, Princess’ handbag collection has been a fun, collaborative project,” continued Paola. “With the help of talented Disney character artists, I have enjoyed creating stunning images based on beloved Disney Princess stories that continue to inspire guests everywhere.”

Active and retired U.S. military personnel can enjoy great rates at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels when you book by December 19, 2018, for stays most nights from January 1 through March 24, 2018, and April 6 through December 19, 2018.

For those looking to stay on property, Disney is offering discounts on all levels of resort stays including Value, Moderate and Deluxe resorts. The offer does exclude the following room types: 3-bedroom villas, campsites, Copper Creek Villas at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, The Little Mermaid Standard Rooms – Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows.

Park Ticket Discounts

If you are looking for park tickets, Disney is offering greatly discounted 4-day Park Hopper and 5-day Park Hopper tickets for military personnel. Purchase now through December 15, 2018 for the following discounts:

Disney Cruise Line Announces Changes to Two Additional Caribbean Sailings in Wake of Irma

In the wake of Hurricane Irma, Disney Cruise Line changed the scheduled itinerary of the Disney Fantasy’s Eastern Caribbean Cruises departing on September 23 and October 7. Tortola and St. Thomas, port-of-call for Eastern Caribbean cruises, continue to remain closed in the aftermath of the storm so Western Caribbean ports were added in their place.

Disney Cruise Line has now announced that two more Eastern Caribbean Cruises will also have altered itineraries. Cruises departing on October 21 and November 4 will also be dropping anchor at Western Caribbean stops. The newly revised itineraries will be as follows:

Disney Fantasy October 21 Sailing:

Saturday – Port Canaveral
Sunday – At Sea
Monday – Cozumel, Mexico
Tuesday – Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
Wednesday – Falmouth, Jamaica
Thursday – At Sea

Garmin has announced that they have teamed up with Disney to bring motivation and imagination to the playground with the introduction of the vívofit jr. 2 activity tracker for kids featuring Disney, Star Wars and Marvel. Not only will they have themed bands, but they will also Disney, Star Wars and Marvel-themed mobile app adventures.

Each band theme offers a corresponding mobile app adventure where children can complete missions to advance in the journey and unlock new character step icons, with the help of their parents, by achieving 60 minutes of activity every day. This exciting collaboration leverages kids’ favorite characters, encouraging children to be active, and ultimately shaping habits for lifelong health and fitness.

“The vívofit jr. 2 is all about making fitness fun for kids, instilling at a young age the joy of leading an active lifestyle,” said Cliff Pemble, Garmin president and CEO. “We are honored to team up in such a unique way with Disney, tapping into the brilliance of their creative storytelling experts. Ultron’s Revenge: A Marvel Avenger’s Mission
In this adventure, kids go alongside Captain America and the Avengers as they tackle app adventures in New York City and try to defeat Ultron. Meet the invincible Iron Man at Tony Stark’s lab, help Thor capture the mischievous Loki, and even accompany Black Widow on top secret S.H.I.E.L.D. missions.

The vívofit jr. 2 experience comes to life with the free companion app4, managed by parents, and each band design comes with a corresponding Disney, Star Wars or Marvel mobile app adventure. From this app, parents can review their children’s daily activities and even assign chores which show up as icons on the device, perfect for kids who need reminders. For kids who tend to procrastinate, schedule alerts can be set up to nudge them to finish their homework or brush their teeth. Kids can use the task timer on the device so that they know how long they have left for each chore. The app allows for multiple profiles so parents and siblings with compatible Garmin devices can also have their steps listed on the step leaderboard, promoting healthy competition for the whole family.

The vívofit jr. 2 is available for purchase at retailers nationwide and has a suggested retail price of $99.99 and $29.99 for each additional band. The patterns vary by size, and include Minnie Mouse, BB-8, The Resistance, First OrderTM, and Avengers.

The Chew returns for the third year to the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival to tape their Emmy Award-winning show in front of the iconic Spaceship Earth. You will find it at the beginning of the World Showcase, between the Port of Entry shops.

ABC will be recording on October 4th-6th to be aired on October 9th-13th. Tickets for the taping are already sold out.
