Guests visiting EPCOT this Sunday are in for a very special treat! October 1st marks EPCOT’s 35th Anniversary and Disney wants to mark the occasion with exclusive merchandise and special fireworks finale of Illuminations. This added to all of the fun that the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival brings, there is sure to be something for everyone!

Here are a few highlights of what’s planned for this year’s anniversary celebration.

Commemorative Guide Map – A commemorative Epcot Guidemap and Times Guide can be picked up on your way into the park. You can find them at the park’s Main Entrance, at International Gateway and Guest Relations.

Anniversary Celebration – Be sure to stop by the Fountain View stage at 10:01 a.m. for a special celebration. Gather to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Epcot with Mariachi Cobre and Voices of Liberty.

Exclusive Merchandise And Special Fireworks Finale For EPCOT's 35th Anniversary

Exclusive Anniversary Merchandise – Anniversary merchandise as a part of the “I Was There” collection will be available to guests visiting Epcot on October 1, which has been specifically designed for this year’s milestone. Items in the collection will be available only at a “pop-up” shop (which will be open for one day only/while supplies last), located just past the Art of Disney location at Epcot on October 1. Additional Epcot 35th Anniversary logo merchandise (not a part of the “I Was There” line) will be available in select merchandise locations at the park, such as Mouse Gear and on the Shop Disney Parks app.

Special Edition: IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth – Guests will be amazed by a special edition of the park’s nighttime fireworks show, “IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth,” which begins at 9 p.m.

A brand-new playground was built in just under 8 hours! That’s what you get when you combine 300 dedicated volunteers with clinking hammers, buzzing drills, lots of mulch and a little bit of pixie dust!

Volunteers from the City of Anaheim, Anaheim Family YMCA, Disneyland Resort, Anaheim Family YMCA, Hope Builders and organizers from KaBOOM! joined forces to make this kid-designed dream a reality.

New to the Disney VoluntEARS Leadership Council, Art Montoya led one of the project teams during his first-ever KaBOOM! build. “Being able to give back means a lot. Growing up, my community helped me have a better upbringing, and I want that for the kids who use this playground. Then I hope that they’ll grow up and want to give back – to create a giving cycle.”

For Disney cast member and Anaheim resident Becky Murphy, this build hits particularly close to home. “Willow Park is within a mile of my house. It will be great to drive by, on my way to work, and see all the kids enjoying what we have built. Playgrounds are a great atmosphere for kids, and especially one they helped design specifically for this community.”

This is the ninth Disney-sponsored KaBOOM! build in Anaheim, with three more planned in the next two years. Next up is Pearson Park!

Morimoto Asia is celebrating its 2nd birthday today! When it opened its doors in 2015 Chef Masaharu Morimoto amazed everyone in attendance (including Chef Mickey Mouse) by expertly carving a 100-pound fresh tuna and turning it into an incredible signature sushi roll.

Chef Masaharu Morimoto was even in Disney Springs a few days ago to be apart of the Disney Springs Party for the Senses at the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. He shared how proud he was to have a restaurant at Walt Disney World in what he calls “the most famous city in the world.” “Here,” he said, “I have the opportunity to serve guests from everywhere. They come from all over. Nick Valenti (CEO of Patina Restaurant Group and Morimoto’s business partner) challenged me to get guests into Pan Asian cuisine, and not just sushi.”

When asked which Disney character is his favorite he answered, “Mickey Mouse is #1. People love the mouse. And my wife and Mickey have the same birthday. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been introducing our fans to the super heroes scheduled to sail with Guests aboard the Disney Magic for Marvel Day at Sea cruises. Today, I’d like to introduce you to the next super hero from the all-star lineup, Hawkeye!

Hawkeye is the world’s most talented archer and marksman, possessing exceptional reflexes and hand-eye coordination. He is a natural athlete and formidable in unarmed combat, with extensive training as an acrobat and aerialist. A member of the Avengers and a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Hawkeye is a highly capable and charismatic super-human.

Hawkeye is just one of many characters you can encounter during this epic event which will be the largest assembly of Marvel Super Heroes and Super Villains ever at sea. You may see him traversing the ship or shooting an arrow with the most accurate precision, aimed at the bad guys, during the nighttime deck show. In the Marvel’s Avengers Academy youth space, Hawkeye will teach young recruits what it takes to become a mighty Super Hero.

'Hocus Pocus' Remake Is In the Works!

Sanderson Sister fans, get excited! A remake of the cult classic Hocus Pocus is in the works! Before you get too excited though, I thought I should share the downside to this long-awaited news: First of all, it does not sound like the original cast will be in the remake. (I wonder who they will get to play Bette Midler’s role?) Secondly, the new Hocus Pocus will be made to either air on The Disney Channel or FreeForm.

Rumors have been swirling for years about a sequel or remake of the Halloween classic movie. However, it seems like this rumor is now a fact as Oh My Disney, an official Disney website, is reporting a remake is in the works!

The original film follows Max Dennison, his little sister, and an immortal, talking cat named Thackery Binx as they set out to defeat three 17th century witches who have come back from the grave.

The upcoming iteration is written by Scarlett Lacey (The Royals) and executive produced by David Kirschner—the producer of the original Hocus Pocus!

‘Remember Me!’ La Celebración del Día de Muertos is Now Open at the Mexico Pavilion in Epcot

This new gallery exhibit explores the traditions of Día de Muertos, featuring the work of prominent Mexican and Mexican-American artists. This two-day celebration – one day to honor departed children and one day to honor departed adults – takes place on November 1st and 2nd each year with colorful parades, festivals, lively music and Mexican cuisine.

Guests are invited to experience the beautiful artistry of this important cultural celebration with artwork including papel picado, sugar skulls and paper sculptures, as well as pre-hispanic items on loan from various museums showcasing the early history of this celebration.

‘Remember Me!’ La Celebración del Día de Muertos is Now Open at the Mexico Pavilion in Epcot

The gallery also highlights four pieces of artwork and explores the artists’ unique processes and inspiration. One such piece, a sculpture group titled Bridal Couple, was created by a father and son in Mexico City whose family has been hand-making this type of celebratory art for more than 300 years. When it debuts next week, Bridal Couple will be the centerpiece of the gallery with four sculptures ranging from 2.5-10 feet tall.
