Tickets Go On Sale for the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards in Just a Few Short Weeks

This year’s Radio Disney Music Awards will kick off in Hollywood on June 22nd.  Voting to determine which artists will wine the Radio Disney “ARDY” stattutte will open up on April 27th as well. Tickets will also go on sale on the 27th and can be purchased through Ticketmaster.com

Radion Disney has become known as a platform that presents unique opportunities for rising your artists and some of the music industry’s biggest names to reach new audiences and broaden their fan base!

 

Sponsors for this year’s event include: Aquabeads®, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Goldfish® crackers, KRAFT® Macaroni and Cheese Shapes, Nintendo’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze video game on the Nintendo Switch, and The Walt Disney Studios.

Den of Thieves production company returns for its fourth year to produce the Radio Disney music awards.

If last year’s event was anything to go by, you can expect the event to be a who’s who of leading industry talent.  Guests from last year include Britney Spears,  Hailee Steinfeld, Kelsea Ballerini,  Sofia Carson,  Sabrina Carpenter, Jordan Fisher, Alessia Cara, Auli’i Cravalho and Tally; and Nick Jonas.

Fans of the event cast over 283 million votes in 2017, its highest numbers yet across the Radio Disney app, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google One Box and Musical.ly. 

So mark your calendars and be sure to get in on the Radio Disney fun both later this month and when this star-studded event premieres in June!

Cannes Film Festival will screen Solo: A Star Wars Story

Cannes Film Festival will screen “Solo: A Star Wars Story”.  It was announced today by Lucasfilm that “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” the newest Star Wars galaxy adventure, has been selected to screen at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival in Official Selection and Out of Competition during the film festival’s run, May 8-19, 2018.

Ron Howard, who directed the film, is said to be attending. It is said he will be joined by cast members Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller, Joonas Suotamo and Paul Bettany.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” is a high-octane adventure that navigates the perils of a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, forges new friendships that will last a lifetime, and reveals untold secrets from the hidden past of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes. In this film we will see Han Solo meet his loyal co-pilot Chewbacca and notorious gambler Lando Calrissian for the first time.  Thanks to a desperate mission set against impossible odds, audiences will see what helped shape the irresistible scoundrel they have come to love!

This is the second film in the Star Wars story series  It follows “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which opened in December 2016, and has garnered worldwide box office receipts of over $1 billion dollars.

The film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel. Lawrence Kasdan, Jason McGatlin, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are the executive producers. Jonathan Kasdan & Lawrence Kasdan wrote the screenplay.

Make sure you check out “Solo: A Star Wars Story” when it opens in U.S. theaters on May 25, 2018!

Disney Contributes $1.5 million to Meet Me At The Park

Meet Me At The Park

 

The Walt Disney Company has committed to making a $1.5 million contribution to support the Meet Me at the Park program organized by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). Disney and the NRPA will provide park and recreation agencies across the United States and within U.S. territories to apply for a grant to improve access to fun, safe and unique play spaces. The overall goal of this grant is to encourage children and families to spend more time at their local parks.

This is the fourth year Disney and NRPA have worked together as part of the Meet Me At The Park project to assist in funding local park improvements in 16 cities.

You can become a part of Meet Me At The Park by voting for one of 15 select cities and also nominating one additional city or town (including your hometown) for the chance to receive a $20,000 grant to support the parks improvement project within that community.

You can vote now through April 30 online at www.nrpa.org/DisneyMeetMeAtThePark.

The Disneyland Resort is holding it’s third annual Environmentality Art Challenge for Disneyland cast members. In celebration of Earth Month, cast members create original pieces of art from any recycled items found in their work areas. Each piece of art is featured in-person at the Disneyland Resort, and on the Disney Parks Blog, so that you can vote for your favorite recycled artwork.

Let’s take a look at the top ten finalists.

“Hei Hei, Pick Up Your Trash” was created in the Miller Warehouse Scenic Fabrication & Art Services area using wood, cardboard, plastic utensils, wire, artificial flowers, paint, fabric, paper, packing foam and styrene.

“Spirit Guided Designs” was created in the Disney Floral & Gifts/Amenity Design area using tissue paper, newspaper, silk red rose petals, styrofoam, cardboard, merchandise bag, red paper plate, mylar balloons, felt, wire, tulle, paper shred, various quality ribbon, cardboard rolls, Mickey head confetti, orange mesh, used highlighter, wrapping paper and string/cord.

“Star Waste: A Renewable Hope” was created by Animation Figure Finishing using sharpie pen bodies, scrap waste can, plastic soda bottles, an old electric motor and LED’s from discarded Disney toys, scrap metal, wire, paper, metallic foil, hot melt and fur from refurbished Junge Cruise hyena, foam board, paper, used paint cups and Solo cups.

“Star Spoons: BB-Ate” was created by Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa Housekeeping using paper towels, plastic spoons, paper plates, balloons left behind in Guest rooms, aluminum foil, cardboard, coffee stir straws, glue and lamp/light bulb left over from a renovation.

“Plaza Inn-vironmentality” was created by the Plaza Inn using used post-it notes, wrappers from soda/water bottles, Photo opp buttons, gift cards, candy boxes, green bean plastic liners, wrappers from paper reams, cereal boxes, chimichanga plastic liners, sausage paper liners, corn bags, and plastic lining from popcorn buckets.

This gallery of recycled artwork will be displayed until April 13th in the Main Street Opera House at the Disneyland Park, it will then move to the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail at Disney California Adventure Park until April 21st. On Earth Day, the exhibit will be displayed at Downtown Disney.

You can vote in-person or online at the Disney Parks Blog. The grand prize is apparel made from recycled content, compliments of Coca-Cola.

Sweet Spells Candy Kitchen

Disney has just announced a big change for Sunset Boulevard at Hollywood Studios. In preparation for Toy Story Land opening June 30th, the Sweet Spells Candy Kitchen, located in the Beverly Sunset store, will be closing on April 16. The store will be refurbished to transform into the primary location for Toy Story Land merchandise outside of the land itself.

Although the Sweet Spells production kitchen is being removed, guests will still be able to find their favorite packaged treats at the newly refurbished Pixar storefront, along with other merchandise shops and quick service locations. During the refurbishment, Reel Vogue (located next door) will continue to operate as normal.

The Walt Disney Company Shows Interest in Acquiring Sky News

Disney interested in acquiring Sky News

The Walt Disney Company has been in negotiations with 21st Century Fox, however, another company has also caught Disney’s eye: Sky News.

Last year, we received a big announcement about Disney’s plans to take over a large chunk of 21st Century Fox. However, as the year unfolded we have seen Comcast enter the playing field by outbidding Disney’s offer for the company.

As the negotiations continue, 21st Century Fox shook things up by placing an unsolicited bid on Sky News. While 21st Century Fox already owns a less than 50% of Sky News, they are hoping to absorb the rest of the company.

Large mergers such as this and the potential Disney and 21st Century Fox deal, draw much attention from the government and face many regulations.

A main concern of 21st Century Fox and Sky News merging is the control over the news The Murdoch Family would then have. The family already controls News Corp, which owns Britain’s three largest newspapers: The Times, The Sun, and The Sunday Times.

Again, Comcast entered the playing field and placed a bid offering more per share than Fox to obtain Sky News.

That brings us to today, where we have learned that Sky News has also peaked Disney’s interest. Regardless of whether or not Disney’s deal with 21st Century Fox goes through, Disney is highly interested in obtaining Sky News.

As Americans have continued to “cut the cable cord”, companies such as Disney are looking to build viewership overseas through companies such as Sky News.

I had the pleasure while at Disneyland last week dining at the wonderful Catal Restaurant and UVA Bar in the heart of Downtown Disney near Naples Ristorante. If you have never dined here before, the Catal Restaurant serves up Mediterranean food with flair, I am sure you can’t wait to dive into my review so let’s jump right in…

Catal Restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, the balcony is perfect for checking out the Disneyland Fireworks, we got to sit in the Downtown Disney Overlook section tonight.

Our table had a wonderful view of the UVA Bar and the rest of Downtown Disney. There are only a few tables available in this area so you might have to wait if you want to sit here.

For starters, we ordered the Ahi Bruschetta. The tuna was so fresh it tasted like it was just caught that day.

The Disney Fashionista ordered the Manchego salad which she only let me have one bite of, the pairing of all the ingredients go well together but we were a little thirsty so we ordered…

a pitcher of the house made Sangria. You have an option of a red or a white, our server said the white was a little sweeter so that was the route we took and we were glad we did. #SoRefreshing

For our entree, we chose the Suckling Pig Paella due to its popularity. The pig was so good but I really wish we could have got a little bit more. I am not a fan of peas so I only had a bite of the rice but it was very good.

For my entree, I got the lamb chops. Look how beautiful they turned out! I have never had Australian Lamb before and I am glad I chose this as my entree. The lamb was full of flavor and the sauce they had on the plate was the bomb! Speaking of bombs…

The bacon mac n’ cheese was the highlight of the meal for me! I am a sucker for anything bacon and I would have loved to order a big bowl of this side item!

With bellies almost full what would a review be without dessert…

The Disney Fashionista is a Creme Brulee junkie, she orders it almost everywhere we go. I am pretty much the same way with bread pudding. So you can only guess what we ordered for dessert.

The traditional Creme Brulee recipe at the Catal Recipe is spot on. Michelle said this was easily in the Top 10 she has ever had, I believe the Disney Cruise Line is her #1.

My chocolate chip bread pudding was good and really the only complaint I had for the night was that it needed a sauce. I am a huge fan of Ohana’s Bread Pudding as they really bring the sauce. None the less it was good with the vanilla ice cream.

Overall the Catal Restaurant delivers fresh Mediterranean flavors, beautiful views, and great service. If you are in the Downtown Disney area I highly recommend checking them out. I would suggest making a reservation online as when we were leaving the place was PACKED, both inside and outside waiting.

Thanks to the gang at the Catal Restaurant for a wonderful meal, we will definitely be back!!!

This tasty treat is located on Discovery Island at Animal Kingdom.  Pizzafari is a great family quick service option while in Animal Kingdom for a quick bite to eat. They are now one of the locations offering Mobile Ordering for even more convenience.

The Lion King Show Coming to Disneyland Paris in 2019

Lion King

Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumba and the rest of the Lion King family are coming to the Chaparral Theater in Disneyland Paris. The iconic songs and timeless story are being brought to life on stage in 2019 in an all-new musical based on the original Lion King film.

Disneyland Paris has recently announced many new entertainment options from live shows to the new interactive Festival of Pirates and Princesses earlier reported. Marvel superheroes are also arriving for the Marvel Summer of Super Heros with an epic show at Studio Theater. Thor, Black Widow, Spider-man, and Hulk are blasting into an interactive live show topping this summers celebration of the parks 25th anniversary.

New Disney Cruise Ship Information Released

Disney Cruise Line has released information on their 3 newest ships to be added to the elite fleet. Meyer Werft, the shipbuilder, released the hull numbers and size information for the new ships.  We have found out the ships will be 343 meters, which is 4 meters longer than Disney Dream or Fantasy.

The three ships will be clean-burning with liquified natural gas and house around 1250 guest staterooms. This is just slightly larger than existing ships in the fleet. The passenger max would be the same as previously stated at 4000.
