Update on Flyover Construction

Earlier this year, Disney filled permits with the South Florida Water Management District to redevelop World Drive. For those unfamiliar, World Drive is a major artery of Walt Disney World’s transportation and is the road that brings guests past Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the BoardWalk Resort, right up to the Magic Kingdom’s Transportation and Ticket Center, before continuing past the Contemporary Resort and then tapering around far side of Fantasyland.

According to the those filed permits, Walt Disney World will be adding a flyover ramp which will route traffic directly from World Drive so that guests heading for the resort-area hotels can bypass the Magic Kingdom parking plaza altogether. In the opposite direction, another newly-constructed flyover ramp will allow traffic heading from the Contemporary Resort side of World Drive to continue on World Drive beyond the Magic Kingdom parking plaza, directly en route to the BoardWalk Resort and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

In addition, Disney will be widening World Drive as well on both sides of the street, transforming the two-lane sections into three lanes and the three lane sections into four lanes. It has also been heavily rumored (though not explicitly confirmed by the filed permits) that the parking toll booths at the front of the Magic Kingdom will also be replaced during this extensive roadwork.

Last night Chip and the Disney Fashionista were lucky enough to enjoy the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party of the year! We have been sharing photos of the Magic Kingdom decorations, yummy holiday treats, and the great characters that came out to meet guests.

Disney Salutes U.S. Armed Services with Special Veterans Day Video

As we prepare to celebrate Veteran’s Day on Saturday, November 11, Disney has released a heartwarming video that was inspired by a veteran honored at one of the park’s flag retreat ceremonies. Each day both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort honor the brave men and women in our armed forces with special flag retreat ceremonies.

Enjoy this video of a retired veteran whose ordinary visit to Magic Kingdom turned extraordinary (tip: may want to grab a tissue).

Disney Parks Blog gives us some insight into the video:

In the video, Steve Warner, a retired Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force, retells his experience of how he discovered the Power of Magic during a 2015 trip to the Walt Disney World Resort.

Steve and his son-in-law were visiting from Pennsylvania and showed up early to see one of our flag retreat ceremonies at Magic Kingdom Park. While waiting, Disney cast member, Bob, approached and asked if Steve would like to be part of the ceremony. Steve participated – and during the ceremony, Bob told him ‘Welcome home soldier.’

Later, Steve said the Disney cast member was the first person, outside of his immediate family, to meaningfully acknowledge his return from Vietnam.

Disney does have a tradition of supporting the U.S. Armed Forces. In March 2012 Disney launched the Heroes Work Here initiative. This company-wide initiative serves to hire, train and support returning veterans. Since this time more than 7,500 veterans have been hired.

To all those currently serving and who have served our great Nation, we say a very grateful Thank You!

One of our favorite breakfast spots in all of Walt Disney World has to be the Kona Cafe at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. This delicious Table Service eatery has been winning over guests for a while now with its Kona Coffee blends as well as the mouth-watering Tonga Toast. They’ve also just upped their holiday game with the introduction of a seasonal favorite that we just had to try on a recent visit. Pumpkin Pancakes!

Good news science fans! We are hearing from WDWInfo that we now have an opening date for the brand new interactive show at EPCOT called “The SpectacuLAB”. The show will make its debut on November 13, 2017.

The show will have 4 performances at Innoventions East:

4:30 pm

“The SpectacuLAB” will have guests exploring their imagination, creativity and curiosity in a fun new way. Real scientists are joined by their tech savvy intern and will invite guests to join in on a series of thrilling experiments that put scientific principles like ultrasonic pressure, barometric pressure, acceleration and force to the test.

The Walt Disney World sponsor Murata is collaborating with Disney to bring this show to life. Murata is a global leader in the design, manufacture and supply of advanced electronic components, and Science from Scientists, a nonprofit organization that aims to improve STEM literacy at schools.

Star Wars: Galactic Nights To Feature State of the Art Projections Onto Tower of Terror

Things are starting to reach fever-pitch with Star Wars fans as we inch ever closer to Star Wars: Galactic Nights which will be taking over Hollywood Studios on December 16th. Guests attending this event are in for a real treat as it will include everything from special Star Wars-themed fireworks displays to stage shows, panel discussions and more.

If there’s one thing that has us especially excited, it’s the news that part of the evening’s entertainment will include an amazing state-of-the-art projection show onto the Tower of Terror at the end of Sunset Boulevard. The picture above was taken from the latest episode of The Star Wars Show and shows an artist’s rendering of what guests can expect during their Galactic Nights Experience.

The official name for the projection show is Star Wars: Galactic Destinations and will feature amazing displays of key locations throughout the Star Wars Galaxy.

Star Wars: Galactic Nights To Feature State of the Art Projections Onto Tower of Terror

In addition, it was announced that fan-favorite Warwick Davis will serve as the official host of the event with The Star Wars Show host David Collins serving as the moderator on the panel discussion centred around Hollywood Studios upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Expansion.

For those unfamiliar with Galactic Nights, it is a special gala ticket event that celebrates all things Star Wars. The cost to attend is $129 per adult and $124 for children (ages 3-9). Event hours on Dec. 16 are 7 p.m.-midnight. Tickets can be purchased at DisneyWorld.com or by calling 407-W-DISNEY (407 934-7639). April’s event sold out quickly so guests are encouraged to book early for Dec. 16.

Activities taking place during this interstellar evening includes:

Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular fireworks and Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away stage show. Both productions will feature enhancements with special elements from the entire saga.
Star Wars Dance Party featuring a DJ spinning out of this world favorites.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Panel Discussion – The Epic Theater will play host to a special one-night-only panel discussion where details will be revealed regarding the 14 acre Star Wars expansion slated to open in 2019.
Special Photo Opportunities – Park-wide, guests can step into immersive and iconic scenes from their favorite Star Wars films in a series of incredibly detailed photo locations, including a new backdrop inspired by Star Wars Rebels.
Character Interactions – Star Wars: Galactic Nights features encounters with Star Wars characters including Ewoks, AWR Troopers and roaming droids. Jedi Knights teach young Padawans in Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple,
Darth Vader’s March – Don’t miss Darth Vader and a battalion of Imperial Stormtroopers march menacingly down Hollywood Boulevard.
Star Wars-themed food and beverage and merchandise will be available throughout the park.
Star Tours – The Adventure Continues – Select park attractions will be open to all guests. At embarkation points to Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, guests may come face-to-face with Stormtroopers on the lookout for a Rebel spy.
Wear your favorite Star Wars Costumes – Come dressed in your finest Star Wars gear. Arriving park guests will walk a red carpet that runs the length of Hollywood Boulevard. The street itself will be dressed in all the trappings of a Tinseltown premiere.
