Delight to joyous sights everywhere as the happiest place on Earth celebrates the most wonderful time of year! Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park are both decked out for the holidays.

Discover sensational sights at every turn—like a gleaming winter castle and a “world” that lights up with joy.

In this merriest of seasons, Disneyland Park is adorned in winter finery. Stroll Main Street, U.S.A. to find the storefronts, lampposts and rooftops wrapped in festive wreaths and garland. Look upon our towering tree and prepare to be astonished as Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle shimmers to life at nightfall—with snow-capped turrets and glistening icicles—thanks to the dreamlike glow of ethereal lighting effects. Later, during the “Believe… in Holiday Magic” Fireworks Spectacular, the castle undergoes even more stunning transformations, culminating in a magical snowfall over locations throughout the park.

We’ve decked the halls from New Orleans Square to Mickey’s Toontown, from Frontierland to Critter Country to Fantasy Faire, so you’ll find festive touches wherever you go.

And while you’re here, be sure to experience a special yuletide treat: the elaborate illumination display—repeated throughout each evening—of “it’s a small world” Holiday. Featuring the iconic façade, a kaleidoscope of over 50,000 lights and projections of enchanting video imagery, it’s a jaw-dropping delight for all ages.

With the Disney Festival of Holidays in full swing, the sights of the season are all around. Each of our lands is celebrating in its own way, with distinctive displays at Grizzly Peak, a bug’s land, Hollywood Land, Pacific Wharf and Paradise Pier.

The residents of Cars Land and Buena Vista Street are extending an extra special welcome! The holiday hosts of Radiator Springs have been applying all their horsepower to upgrade their establishments for the holiday season. No parts have been spared during this custom motorcar makeover!

Or, take a stroll along Buena Vista Street and step back in time. During the holidays, this bustling boulevard is transformed into a nostalgic winter wonderland, with seasonal delights and friendly folk right out of 1930s Hollywood. From the wreath adorning Carthay Circle to our magnificent 50-foot tree, festive sights surround you.

Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa Renovation is Complete

Grand Californian

Disneyland Resort‘s AAA Four Diamond Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, just went through a hotel-wide renovation which has been completed just in time for the holiday season! The completed renovation features fully redesigned guest rooms, as well as a refreshing face-lift to the Fountain Pool, Redwood Pool, and Mariposa Pool. Guests re-visiting the Grand Californian will notice that the hotel Lobby was also updated during the renovation.

“Our renovation brings an even more upscale experience to this iconic Southern California hotel, while staying committed to its signature Arts & Crafts design,” said Dan Coleman, General Manager of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. “We want our guests to feel they are staying in a Disney hotel that’s distinctly situated in beautiful California. The revitalized design helps convey this feeling and allows us to continue exceeding guest expectations.”

Guest Rooms –

Every single element in the redesigned guest rooms is new—from flooring and walls, to furnishings and bathrooms. Upon entry, guests will notice beautiful hardwood-inspired flooring transitioning into soft, bright-toned carpeting. Linens and pillows are restyled in a bright, white palette and upgraded bathrooms include new fixtures. The room decor features all-new furniture made of quarter-sawn oak, specially designed for each room, as well as California-inspired artwork.

The headboards are made of quarter-sawn oak, a hallmark of Craftsman design, which frame a blossoming orange tree mural overhead—with mischievous Chip n’ Dale playing in the branches. When guests open the sleeper bed (available in select rooms), artwork of Bambi, along with other woodland creatures, bid them goodnight.

Countertops of the room’s desk, dresser and coffee station incorporate pieces of green glass from wine bottles, creating a beautiful, unique surface. Above the coffee bar, textured copper detailing adds depth to the aesthetic of the room while enforcing the Craftsman story.

Lastly, all rooms are powered with the latest technological features and premium amenities, including 55-inch smart TVs, Keurig coffee makers and built-in USB chargers. In addition, many rooms offer breathtaking views of Disney California Adventure Park and Downtown Disney District, the lively avenue with unique restaurants, interesting shops and dynamic entertainment venues.

Great Hall Lobby –

The already stunning six-story Great Hall lobby has been upgraded with new, stylish furnishings and design elements. To complement the existing Arts and Crafts motif, new contemporary designs can be found throughout the furniture pieces, upholstery, woodwork and carpeting.

Custom tete-a-tete chairs provide interesting design and function, while boldly upholstered sofa and chair pairings offer a comfortable, welcoming setting. Coffee tables and lamp fixtures nicely complement the space, and leather-topped stools showcase hidden Mickey details. The redesigned space is perfect for lounging with family, relaxing with a glass of wine from the Hearthstone Lounge, or simply admiring the lobby’s focal point—the cavernous fireplace and its roaring fire.

Pool Deck

Each of the three pools have been redesigned with a variety of natural stones and brick to not only create a warm and welcoming environment, but also define the distinct pool settings. In keeping with the Arts and Crafts style of the hotel, the stone work was hand-laid by master stone masons.

Disney’s Grand California Hotel & Spa is located inside Disney California Adventure Park, providing guests with a special entrance to the theme park. Food and beverage options at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel include the award-winning Napa Rose, as well as character dining at Storytellers Cafe and the cozy Hearthstone Lounge. Guests staying at Disneyland Resort hotels also enjoy Extra Magic Hour*, which provides early entry to select Disneyland or Disney California Adventure attractions (valid theme park ticket and active hotel room key required).

Young Chefs Academy Shares COCO-inspired Cheesecake Recipe for a Night of Family Baking Fun

Young Chefs

We are just a few short weeks away from COCO opening stateside (November 22nd) and to celebrate, Young Chefs Academy will be hosting COCO-inspired events at select locations in honor of the Disney•Pixar release.  These specially created workshops will include amazing dishes influenced by the movie.

In celebration of the collaboration, Young Chefs Academy recently shared online a very special dessert recipe that celebrates COCO’s main character Miguel and his heritage as well creating a tasty treat that can be celebrated when families come together this Holiday Season – The Dulce de Leche Cheesecake.

This easy-to-follow recipe can be found on Young Chef Academy’s website but we’ll briefly outline it below:

COCO-inspired Dulce de Leche Cheesecake:

Ingredients

For the crust:

  • 2 1/4 cups graham cracker crumbs (about 17 whole graham crackers)
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 10 Tbsp. butter, melted

For the Filling:

  • 2 (8-oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup canned dulce de leche
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract

For the Glaze:

  • 2/3 cup canned dulce de leche
  • 3 Tbsp. (or more) heavy whipping cream
  • Fleur de sel

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Generously grease a 9″ springform pan with nonstick spray (bottom and sides).
  2. For the crust: In the bowl of the food processor, pulse graham crackers until you have fine crumbs.
  3. Mix graham cracker crumbs, sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Add melted butter; stir until coated. Transfer crumb mixture to the prepared pan. Press evenly onto the bottom of the pan. Bake until crust is lightly golden, about 10 minutes. Cool completely on a rack.
  4. For the filling: Wipe out the bowl of the food processor; blend the cream cheese and sugar in processor until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute, stopping occasionally to scrape down sides of the bowl.  Be sure not to overbeat!
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, processing 3 to 5 seconds to blend between additions. Add the dulce de leche and vanilla; process about 10 seconds. Spread batter evenly over cooled crust.
  6. Place a roasting pan of water on the bottom rack and set the springform pan on the rack above that to create steam and prevent it from drying out.
  7. Bake until just set in center and edges are puffed and center jiggles slightly about 38 minutes. Transfer to rack; cool completely.
  8. For the glaze: Heat the dulce de leche and 3 tablespoons cream in a microwave-safe bowl in 10-second intervals until melted. Stir to blend, adding more cream by teaspoonful if too thick to pour (the amount of cream needed will depend on the brand of dulce de leche).
  9. Pour glaze over the cooled cheesecake and spread evenly. Refrigerate until chilled, about 1 hour. Lightly sprinkle bars with fleur de sel or sea salt.

Here are a handful of tips that might help you along as you prepare this delicious treat:

  • TIP 1 – Make sure all of your ingredients are at room temperature otherwise you could end up with a lumpy cheesecake!
  • TIP 2 – Instead of using a stick of butter to grease your pan, simply use the wrapper left from your softened butter to grease your pan.
  • TIP 3 – If you’d rather use a stand mixer for the filling, use the paddle attachment as this produces less air (more air = more cracks!).  But be sure not to over-mix!  Over-mixing can create air pockets causing cracks in your cheesecake.  You want a smooth, glossy finish.
  • TIP 4 – The steam when using a roasting pan of water helps keep the cheesecake moist and prevents cracks.  However, you will be covering the cheesecake with a glaze, so don’t dispare if a crack or two appears!
  • TIP 5 –  You’ve heard us say this over and over but do not open the oven during baking time!  This reduces the temperature and can cause your cheesecake to sink or crack.

Don’t forget to check out COCO when it opens in cinemas in just a few short weeks.  To find out more about Young Chefs Academy and the courses they offer visit their website here.

Cooling Towers At Disneyland Shut Down After Reported Cases of Legionnaires’ Disease

Cooling Towers At Disneyland Shut Down After Reported Cases of Legionnaires’ Disease

Two bacteria-contaminated water coolers have been shut down by Disneyland after Orange County health officials discovered several cases of Legionnaires’ disease in people who had visited the Anaheim theme park, authorities said.

Orange County health officials are investigating 12 cases of Legionnaires’ disease. One person, who had not visited Disneyland, has died, officials said Friday.

In an email sent on Friday, Jessica Good, a spokeswoman for the Orange County Health Care Agency, said  the agency found 12 people, ages 52 to 94,  were diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease, a type of airborne disease that causes a severe form of pneumonia to most people 50 years or older or with a weak immune system.

Ten people were hospitalized and one person “with additional health issues” died, according to health officials. The person who has passed did not visit Disneyland.

The health care agency is investigating all the cases, but has not yet identified a common exposure source for all of them, she said.

Legionnaires’ disease usually results from inhaling microscopic water droplets in mist or vapor. It is not spread person-to-person.

Dr. Pamela Hymel, chief medical officer for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, issued a statement and stated that Disney was informed Oct. 27 by the county agency of Disneyland’s possible role in the  Legionnaires’ disease cases in Anaheim.

“We conducted a review and learned that two cooling towers had elevated levels of Legionella bacteria,” Hymel said in the statement. “These towers were treated with chemicals that destroy the bacteria and are currently shut down.”

Hymel added that Disney has worked with the county health care agency and that “there is no longer any known risk associated with our facilities.”

It is the towers behind the New Orleans Square train station that, while initially cleared, have again been removed from service by Disney.

No additional cases have been reported since September and no known ongoing risk associated with this outbreak.

Disney’s Aulani Focuses On Importance Of Storytelling

Aulani Storytelling

At the Aulani Resort storytelling is an important element of your vacation. The Hawaiian culture is rich with history and beauty which is the foundation for everything you will experience during your stay. Walt Disney himself was a prolific storyteller which also gives the resort guidance to the many ways to be immersed in the beauty of Hawaiʻi’s stories.

Take time to visit with Uncle at the Circle of ʻAlae ‘Ula firepit during his Moʻolelo Storytelling and he will share tales of the district that he resides in. Some of his stories include the ‘Alae ‘Ula for which the pit is named, and how they divulged the secret of fire to the demi-god Maui. You might even learn about the shark goddess Kaʻahupahau who resides at Pearl Harbor.

Disney's Aulani Focuses On Importance Of Storytelling

While you are enjoying Aulani, you may even have the opportunity to hear about Moana’s journeys around the Pacific ocean first-hand from the adventurer herself!

But it’s not just Uncle that wants to share with you. All of the cast members at Aulani are excited to talk about life in Hawai’i. Make sure to ask them to tell you a story! You may be surprised at the magical responses that await you.
