Insider Tips for Dining at the Disneyland Resort
Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel

Looking for the best steak or cup of coffee at Disneyland? What about which restaurants offer a meal hosted by Mickey Mouse himself? Use this guide as a handy reference when in comes to dining at the Disneyland Resort.

Most romantic dinner spot: It’s a toss-up between Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, a corner table at Steakhouse 55 in the Disneyland Hotel, or Blue Bayou inside Disneyland Park.

Favorite spots for outdoor dining: The terrace at Wine Country Trattoria, the patio at Carthay Circle Restaurant and the back patio at Flo’s V-8 Cafe in Cars Land, all at Disney California Adventure Park; Carnation Cafe on Main Street, U.S.A., the front porch of Plaza Inn and River Belle Terrace (where we’re told Walt Disney used to have breakfast on Sunday mornings), all in Disneyland Park; the terrace at Napa Rose, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa; Uva Bar, Downtown Disney District.

How to order kosher meals: Kosher meals are available at most table-service restaurants at the Disneyland Resort. A 24-hour notice is required, and the meals are purchased from an outside vendor. Guests also may bring their own preferred kosher products.

Fill ‘er up: Favorite self-serve, buffet-style restaurants include breakfast at Plaza Inn, Disneyland Park; Goofy’s Kitchen (brunch and dinner), the Disneyland Hotel; breakfast at Disney’s PCH Grill, Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel; and breakfast at Storytellers Cafe, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.

Where is Mickey Mouse? Best place to find the Big Cheese is Surf’s Up! Breakfast with Mickey and Friends at Disney’s PCH Grill at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel.

Best steak dinner: Steakhouse 55 at the Disneyland Hotel (the generous bone-in rib-eye is a hands-down favorite), or the grilled filet of Angus beef tenderloin at Napa Rose.

Best cup of coffee: Starbucks at Market House on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland Park, and at Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe at Disney California Adventure Park.

Best vegetarian: All table-service restaurants offer vegetarian choices, but for creations with the season’s freshest ingredients, guests may try Catal Restaurant and Uva Bar at Downtown Disney District, or Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.

Tops for families: Gather round the table for breakfast or dinner at Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel, where the Disney characters will have you dancing, or Blue Bayou Restaurant in Disneyland Park, with twinkling lights and a magical ambience.  Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa spurs family conversation with beautiful wall murals that depict tall tales set in the Golden State’s early days.

Grown-ups’ night out: For an evening without the kids, favorites include Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Steakhouse 55, at the Disneyland Hotel.

Best place to grab a quick sandwich:  Cozy Cone Motel, Disney California Adventure Park; Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe and Hungry Bear in Disneyland Park; Earl of Sandwich or La Brea Bakery at Downtown Disney District.

Outstanding wine list: Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa offers a selection of 80 wines by the glass from an award-winning list of more than 450 international wines (80 percent Californian) and a 17,000-bottle cellar.

Best lounges: Steakhouse 55 or Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar, both at the Disneyland Hotel; Napa Rose or Hearthstone Lounge, both at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel& Spa, and the lounge downstairs at Carthay Circle Restaurant, in Disney California Adventure Park.

‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Made the 10 Most Must-See Films of 2018 List

'Mary Poppins Returns' Made the 10 Most Must-See Films of 2018 List

Photo cred: USA Today

‘Mary Poppins Returns’, which releases Christmas day in 2018, has made USA Today’s list for the Top 10 Must-See movies of 2018. They also debuted this new picture from the movie.

“Emily Blunt acknowledges that it’s hard to put in words what it’s like to play author P.L. Travers’ iconic nanny, though “joyful” and “utterly magical” do come up in conversation. Julie Andrews played the role in 1964 and the flying umbrella passes to Blunt for a sequel set in 1930s Depression-era London, where Poppins revisits a now-grown Michael (Ben Whishaw) and Jane Banks (Emily Mortimer) when their family needs her again. Back in the day, a spoonful of sugar helped the medicine go down, but Blunt’s Poppins hews more to Travers’ literary character. “I just loved how eccentric and wacky she is in the books — incredibly vain and rude to the children,” Blunt says. “As a British person, I really responded to that lack of saccharine relationships. I find it comforting the idea of someone just sweeping in who’s no-nonsense and cleaning everything up and making everything right again in a magical way that’s not sentimental.”” -USA Today

I am super excited to see this movie next year!

Disney Casting Call Gives Insights Into New Up-themed Stage Show at Animal Kingdom

Up Stage Show

As we reported at Chip and Co. earlier this month, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be replacing its “Flight of Wonder” bird show with a new offering that combines the show’s emphasis these remarkable feathered friends with characters from Disney•Pixar’s “UP.”

Today, we’re finding out a bit more about this new offering via a Casting Call that was posted on Disney Parks Live Entertainment.  The role being advertised is Anika, a woman who lives in Anandapur Indian village and looks after birds in her caravan aviary.  Disney describes Anika as a free-spirit and the storyteller in her family. She is noted for her colorful and expressive movement and language as well as her playful nature.

The new show will offer guests a chance to see Senior Wilderness Explorer Russell and his trusted companion Dug as they discover species of birds from around the world.  The existing Flights of Wonder show will make its final performance on December 31, 2017.  No details have been given as of yet regarding the opening date of this new and exciting Disney offering but it is expected to start running in the Spring of 2018.

Keep following along with Chip and Co. for the latest in Walt Disney World news and updates.

Disney Parks Art Director Brad Kayle To Judge the Upcoming 129th Rose Parade

Rose Bowl

Brad Kaye, the principal art director for Disney Parks Live Entertainment has been a fan of the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena since his childhood and has even designed two Disneyland Resort floats for the iconic Rose Parade.  This year, Disney is pleased to announce that Kaye will be in the judge’s seat as one of three float judges at the 129th Rose Parade on New Year’s Day.

Kaye had the following to say about this amazing honor,  “Having watched the Rose Parade growing up, and even going with my family and friends, I always admired the design and art that went into making the floats.” He added, “Then having been fortunate enough to design the Disneyland Resort floats in 2006 and 2013, I really got an understanding of the craftsmanship that the amazing teams of volunteers and scene shops do to pull it all together. Now as a judge, it will be very exciting to see them all up close in the final days of assembly and really be able to applaud all the teams’ efforts.”

Brad has a brilliant history with Disney Parks Live Entertanment where his past accomplishments include designing for parades and spectaculars such as “Under the Sea” at Tokyo DisneySea, “Block Party Bash” at Disney California Adventure, the Halloween parades for both Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland, “Tangled and “Aladdin” shows on Disney Cruise Line and Disney-themed floats in Shanghai Tourism and Festival parades.

You won’t want to miss your chance to see Brad in the judge’s seat along with the amazing floats when the 129th Rose Parade is broadcast live on January 1, 2018 on ABC beginning at 8am PST.

Review: Maria & Enzo’s Pizza Ponte Pizzeria at Disney Springs

Balloon!

Review: Maria & Enzo's Pizza Ponte Pizzeria at Disney Springs

Today we had the opportunity to go and check out the amazing new Pizza Ponte at Disney Springs.

This pizzeria is apart of the soon-to-come Maria and Enzo’s restaurants, located directly beside the highly anticipated Edison location. As you walk through the door of Pizza Ponte, you are first delighted by old photographs of stunning people, who I presumed to be Maria, Enzo, and their family. It gives this mostly-modern decorated restaurant a hint of the nostalgic with a throwback to Art Deco styling, while combining old with new to create a bustling environment that you can see yourself visiting again and again. With the stunning view of Disney Springs, it’s definitely a place worth checking out.

As we came further into the entryway, we were greeted by very friendly cast members who instantly handed us menus while offering to answer any questions we may have had. Once through the entryway, we were enveloped by the smell of freshly baked dough, accented by the scent of perfectly roasted cheese and toppings, baking in a stunning, galley style kitchen with subway tiling, complete with a stainless-steel, truly Italian espresso machine, adding just a hint of the roasty coffee note into the air.

Review: Maria & Enzo's Pizza Ponte Pizzeria at Disney Springs

Though there was a short line, it moved quickly; the cast members are quick and helpful.

Review: Maria & Enzo's Pizza Ponte Pizzeria at Disney Springs

The pastry case is filled with beautiful creations that taste as amazing as they look; if it’s true that people eat first with their eyes, then this is truly a feast for the senses. You are greeted by several stunningly gorgeous varieties of pizza, all freshly baked in the pizza oven behind the counter. Pizza not your jam today? There are several Italian sandwiches and salads to choose from as well! There’s even a “cruffin” for those looking for a more adventurous pastry delight.

After perusing our options, including Italian sodas, wine and beers, candies, and ready-to-take treats, we decided on the Forest Mushrooms Pizza slice, Mistacanza salad, Pistachio and Mascarpone Parfait, a Cappuccino, and the Cioccolata (an Italian hot chocolate).

The Forest Mushroom Pizza is topped with cheese, mushrooms, olives, and tomatoes. As you take the first bite, you realize that this is no ordinary pizza; this is a true Italian masterpiece, worthy of its place alongside the genius of Michelangelo, Rafael, and Da Vinci. The Forest Mushroom pizza has a full flavor with a hint of olive oil. This pizza is a roasty delight, and one of the many vegetarian options at Pizza Ponte.

Review: Maria & Enzo's Pizza Ponte Pizzeria at Disney Springs

The Mistacanza Salad starts with a bed of mixed greens, topped with various crudité, including red and golden beets, Gorgonzola, candied walnuts, golden cherry tomatoes, red bell peppers, and a lemon vinaigrette. This salad looks and tastes like the flavors and quality that you would expect from a much higher end Italian eatery. There is a different salad available for all of the seafood lovers, that even comes with calamari!

Review: Maria & Enzo's Pizza Ponte Pizzeria at Disney Springs

The Pistachio and Mascarpone Parfait is truly a revelation. With subtle hints of pistachio delicately dancing alongside the creamy mascarpone, and highlighted by the bright hint of the strawberry ribbon in the middle, this is one dessert that is not to be missed! It wasn’t overly sweet, so that the true flavors could shine through. This may have made it onto my list of favorite desserts on Disney property. There is also a Nutella parfait that looked incredible!

The coffee choices, while somewhat limited, are made to perfection. The Cappuccino came with the perfect balance of half foam and half milk, accented by beautifully pulled espresso shots with a well-rounded flavor, and not overly bitter aftertaste. The Cioccolata is a semi-sweet hot chocolate, topped with whipped cream. While ours was missing the whipped cream, which we didn’t notice until later (whoops!), the flavor is delightful. It’s slightly lighter than a Starbucks Hot Chocolate but still less sweet than your more traditional grocery-store varieties. Yum! The hot beverages are well-priced and tasty, and a fun change from the daily picks.

Overall, Pizza Ponte is a fun environment, great for guests on the go, or those looking to pick up a quick meal. It has the ambiance of a family-owned pizzeria, with reasonable prices, delicious coffees, and plenty of decadent desserts.

The Actress Who Brought Mimi Kaboom to Life has Passed Away

Mimi Kaboom Death

The Disney family has lost another member. Just days after the passing of the Mayor of Main Street USA, we are saddened to report the loss of Stacy Fulford, who was known as Mimi Kaboom at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

In March of this year Fulford signed her 5th contract to appear as a Citizen of Hollywood – beginning her time in that role in 2013.  You may also recognize her as Helga, the German storyteller at Epcot’s Holidays Around the World, a role she has had since 2012.

The whole Disney family will miss Stacy and the joy she brought to guests every day!

Is Aladdin’s Oasis Returning to Disneyland?

Disneyland

Were you a fan Aladdin’s Oasis at Disneyland? Good news! Per permits filed, it appears that the venue will be returning to Disneyland Park!

Aladdin’s Oasis originally opened as Tahitian Terrace back in 1962 and featured a dinner show. Then in 1993, it transitioned to an Aladdin-themed dinner show and received the Aladdin’s Oasis name. However, the Aladdin dinner show only lasted just about two years and the venue became a restaurant on peak park days. Currently, the venue has hosted meet and greets along with the occasional special event. If you are not familiar with the location, it is located between The Enchanted Tiki Room and The Jungle Cruise.

The permits filed indicate that the work on the venue will be a “dining conversion.” It appears that work on the venue will begin on January 18, 2018 and some of the modifications to the building include renovations to the interior restrooms and demolishing an exterior wall. The permits also indicate that a current deck will be extended.

Keep following along with us as more details are announced!

‘Old’ Driver’s Licenses Will Be Permitted for Flying According to TSA

'Old' Driver's Licenses Will Be Permitted for Flying According to TSA

Earlier this year, residents of the following states flying to a Disney Destination (or anywhere for that matter) were advised that their driver’s licenses would no longer be valid documentation for flying domestically as of January 22, 2018. Travelers were advised that an alternative ID was also going to be required in addition to their driver’s licenses. This change was due to the states not updating their licenses to the REAL ID law required now by the federal government. The states without the updated licenses are:

  • Kentucy
  • Maine
  • Minnesota
  • Missouri
  • Montana
  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • South Carolina
  • Washington

Well, now it appears that the TSA has changed their stance on this requirement. TSA spokesman, Mike England, said in statement released Wednesday that residents in all 50 states can continue to use their “old” driver’s licenses until October 1, 2020. In addition, it appears that many of the states listed above have started updating their licenses so it looks like all United States residents should be compliant by October of 2020.
