Celebrate the 80th Anniversary of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”

80th anniversary of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Celebrate the 80th Anniversary of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” at The El Capitan Theatre from February 2 to 7, 2018. Snow White herself will make a live appearance on stage before every show. Legendary Disney Producer Don Hahn (“Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King”) will be in person at The El Capitan Theatre on Saturday, February 3 to introduce the film at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.

Disney has also teamed up with legendary designers-Alberta Ferretti, Naeem Khan, Monique Lhuillier, Alice + Olivia, and Marchesa, the creators of one-of-a-kind fairytale gowns that will be displayed during this exclusive engagement of Snow White. These creations, originally displayed over the recent holidays in the Saks Fifth Avenue New York’s 49th Street and 50th street windows, will be seen in the lower and street level lobbies of The El Capitan Theatre.

Showtimes from February 2 through February 7 are 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Tickets are now on sale at www.elcapitantickets.com, by calling 1-800-DISNEY6 (347-6396) and at The El Capitan Theatre box office. Special group rates for “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” of $9 for parties of 20 or more are available by calling 1-818-845-3110. Showtimes and dates are subject to change.

The El Capitan Theatre General Manager Ed Collins said, “To celebrate ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ 80th Anniversary, The El Capitan is honored to present this very special engagement of Walt Disney’s legendary masterpiece, the world’s first full-length animated feature and the first in the Disney Animated Canon. It was also the first one in English, the first one in Technicolor, and the first one ever made in the United States.”

Collins continued, “And it is a rare occasion that we get to see this film on the big screen, as it was meant to be seen. And in a special arrangement we will be displaying five high fashion gowns inspired by the romance of the story from the New York Saks Fifth Avenue. In every way, ‘Snow White’ is still the fairest of them all!”

Among the accolades, the Library of Congress in 1989 deemed the film “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry. “Snow White” is also ranked in the American Film Institute’s list of the 100 greatest American films, who also named the film as the Greatest American Animated Film of All Time in 2008.

Walt Disney himself said, “I just thought it was a perfect story … ‘Snow White’ started a whole new era.”

Leonard Maltin said, “‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ remains a joyful experience even after 80 years. It paved the way for every Disney classic to follow, right to the present day.”

Animation historian Charles Solomon said, “The principals of animation that go into character animation – the art of making the character move in a way that demonstrates his personality so that you understand who he is even when he is not speaking … is a uniquely American art form that was largely invented at the Disney studio. We still have animated features as musicals because ‘Snow White’ was a musical. The idea that they should be based on fairy tales comes from ‘Snow White.’ The kind of story telling in ‘Snow White’ is still the same kind of story telling that animators aspire to in their films. It is one of the real watersheds in the history of the medium of animation.”

“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Walt Disney Productions, premiered on December 21, 1937, and was originally released in theatres by RKO Radio Pictures on February 8, 1938. The film is an adaptation of The Brothers Grimm fairy tale, in which an evil queen attempts to have her stepdaughter Snow White murdered so she could be the fairest in the land, but the girl escapes and is given shelter by seven dwarfs in their cottage in a forest.

Don’t miss this 80th Anniversary celebration of the classic animated film, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Announces Promotions of Key Leaders

Walt Disney

Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Bob Chapek today announced the promotions of key leaders for the Parks segment. Effective March 5, Michael Colglazier will become president and managing director, Asia Pacific, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, and Josh D’Amaro, a 20-year Disney veteran and former Disneyland executive, will become president of the Disneyland Resort.

“One of our company’s greatest strengths is the vast array of talented leaders at our destinations around the globe,” said Chapek. “Michael and Josh bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to their new roles and share a passion for delivering extraordinary experiences for our guests. They are the right leaders to bring our ambitious expansion plans to life during this period of unprecedented growth.”

For the past five years, Colglazier, 51, has served as president of the Disneyland Resort, where he led a workforce of 30,000 cast members, oversaw the successful 60th anniversary Diamond Celebration and drove the resort’s record business performance and growth.

In his new role, the 28-year Disney veteran will be responsible for overseeing the company’s parks and resorts operations and development throughout Asia, including Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland with the Oriental Land Company and Shanghai Disney Resort. Bill Ernest, who held this role since 2008, announced his retirement earlier this month after a nearly 24-year career with Disney.

“Bill has had a tremendous career at Parks and Resorts, and his leadership was integral to paving the way for a strong and bright future for our Disney parks in Asia. Bill is a man of great character and has a huge passion for what we do. I want to thank him for all of his efforts and wish him all the best in his retirement,” Chapek said.

Commenting on his new role, Colglazier said: “It has been an incredible privilege to lead Walt Disney’s original park for the past five years and to drive his legacy of innovation, quality and storytelling alongside my fellow cast members. Being part of the Disneyland Resort community has been a wonderful source of joy for me and my family. I am tremendously excited to join our teams in Asia, where our growth opportunities are diverse and endless.”

D’Amaro, 46, who most recently served as senior vice president at Walt Disney World Resort where he oversaw marketing strategy, sales and business development, began his Disney career in 1998 as a senior business planner at the Disneyland Resort. Over the course of his eight years at Disneyland, D’Amaro held several leadership positions with increased responsibilities in operations, business planning, finance, sales and marketing.

“I am incredibly excited to be returning to the place where I began my Disney career 20 years ago,” said D’Amaro. “I look forward to working closely with my fellow cast members, overseeing the Disneyland Resort during such an exciting period of growth, and once again becoming a member of the Orange County community.”

Prior to his role at Walt Disney World, D’Amaro served as senior vice president, Resorts and Transportation, from 2014 to 2017, where he was responsible for the operation of Walt Disney World’s 26 resort hotels and the resort-wide transportation system. In addition, D’Amaro served as vice president of Animal Kingdom Park from 2012 to 2014, during a time when the park was undergoing the largest expansion in its history. D’Amaro has also held sales and marketing positions with Adventures by Disney as well as with Hong Kong Disneyland. From 2008 to 2010, D’Amaro served as vice president, finance, Global Licensing for Disney’s Consumer Products Division. Prior to joining Disney in 1998, D’Amaro worked in financial planning for The Gillette Company in Boston.

New Survey Shows Disney Vacation Club Members Plan Vacation Time in Advance

New Survey Shows Disney Vacation Club Members Plan Vacation Time in Advance

Dreaming of a beautiful destination, restful days and time away from the office? According to a new survey, Disney Vacation Club might just be the answer to helping Americans use more vacation time. As part of the U.S. Travel Association’s Project: Time Off National Plan for Vacation Day, Disney Vacation Club released survey results showing that their members are more likely than most Americans to plan vacation time in advance, as well as ensure they take annual vacations.

New Survey Shows Disney Vacation Club Members Plan Vacation Time in Advance

These findings show that, while more than half of Americans (54 percent according to Project: Time Off Initiative) fail to use all of their time off, 81 percent of Disney Vacation Club members used all of their vacation time by comparison. Recent Disney Vacation Club insights even show that a majority of members (95 percent) plan and take a vacation annually while only 54 percent of Americans do the same, which constitutes more than 40 percent more vacations planned per year than other U.S. travelers.

“Disney Vacation Club is the ideal way to vacation because it enables families to commit to investing more time with each other while enjoying unforgettable vacations year after year,” said Ken Potrock, senior vice president, Disney Vacation Club. “Our members enjoy stays at 14 Disney Vacation Club Resorts in the United States, as well as at thousands of vacation destinations worldwide. By providing our members a wealth of choices for how to make the most out of their annual vacation time, Disney Vacation Club offers the perfect solution for those looking to savor what’s most important in life – time together with the ones we love.”

Project: Time Off recently released study findings showing more than 659 million paid vacation days go unused every year, and that the most effective remedy for Americans who want to use more vacation days is better planning.

However, survey results gathered from Disney Vacation Club members in December 2017 tell a more positive story, showing that Disney Vacation Club members enjoy an increased vacation frequency when traveling with Disney Vacation Club. Seventy-two percent of respondents said that being a Disney Vacation Club member inspires them to take more vacations, and 71 percent of respondents said that being a member ensures they take vacations annually.

Planning for vacation is an inherent element of the Disney Vacation Club experience with support provided throughout the process.  As a result, members are able to overcome one of the primary barriers many have in using all of their vacation time.

To help employees get their vacation days on the calendar, Project: Time Off created a vacation planning tool. By simply entering the number of days off earned, users can plot out their trips or vacations for the year, export to their work or personal calendar, and share with their family and co-workers.

Has Magic Kingdom’s Main Street U.S.A. Theater Project Been Halted?

Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom

The internet has been all abuzz this afternoon about the Main Street U.S.A. Theater that was planned for the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. Apparently, the Main Street U.S.A Theater project has been axed by Disney and will not be built.

Originally announced at the 2017 D23 Expo, the Main Street U.S.A. Theater was planned to bring live action shows like the Frozen production at Disneyland to the Magic Kingdom. The Main Street U.S.A. Theater was promoted as being a copy of the Willis Wood Theater in Kansas City, Missouri. This is where Walt lived after departing Marceline, Missouri.

It’s pretty surprising that plans for the Main Street U.S.A. Theater have just been cancelled at this time. Recently, we reported that land was starting to be cleared backstage at the Magic Kingdom to make room for the Theater. We were under the assumption that the foundation would have been poured shortly as well.

The Main Street U.S.A. Theater was planned to be built near the current Town Square Theater and Tomorrowland.

No word on if the Theater will built at another location on Disney World property or what might possibly be built on that land at the Magic Kingdom that has started to be cleared.

As always, nothing is official until Disney confirms it so keep following along with Chip & Co to bring you the latest on all things Disney!

Disney Launches the Disney Family Volunteering Reward Program and Allows Participations to Earn Free Park Tickets

Disney Family volunteering Reward Program

Giving back to the community is such a fulfilling way to spend time, especially family time! Since family time, and giving back, are such a big park of the Disney experience, Disney Parks have teamed up with Points of Light to launch the Disney Family Volunteering Reward program.  This program will recognize and inspire nonprofits engaging families. Eligible nonprofits can earn up to 20 tickets per calendar year through the new program.

All across the United States organization are getting involved.  In honor of National Mentoring Month, and as a part of this new program, 17 Big Brothers Big Sisters of America chapters from all across the country are hosting family volunteer activities that will earn them complimentary tickets to visit Disney Parks.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County and the Inland Empire earned tickets by hosting a carnival for children they serve.  They also included a service project. Disney VoluntEARS were “BIGS for a day” at the carnival.  The created care packages for seniors in need with their “littles.”

You can take a look at how the service project really added to this day of fun.  And how they earned another day of fun – this time at a Disney Park – by participating!

Join Enzo’s Hideaway on February 8th, 2018 from 5PM to 7PM to enjoy a tasting of six prestigious Diageo Classic Malts Whiskies paired with a meat and cheese plate to excite the palate. This is the first “Smuggler’s Series” event at Enzo’s Hideaway.

Ewan is the National Director of Diageo’s Masters of Whisky program, a third generation ‘whisky man’ and one of the most knowledgeable whisky resources in the industry. He will use Classic Malts Tasting Mats to give us a tour of six famous Scottish distilleries. Added bonus: a very rare and unique whisky has been added as a 7th tasting.

They are beginning The Smuggler’s Series with a contest to win tickets to the first tasting! This event can only be attended by winning a ticket via the contest. To enter, visit http://bit.ly/2FCnrc1. Must be 21 years or older to enter. Contest winners will be announced and contacted via email February 5. Travel expenses to and from Enzo’s Hideaway for this tasting are not included.
