The Polite Pig - A Delicious Way to Fill Your Belly At Disney Springs

The Polite Pig – A Delicious Way to Fill Your Belly At Disney Springs -The smell of smokey bar-b-que fills the air when you near the restaurant. Step inside and your mouth begins to water. The Polite Pig is a go-to destination for a meal with friends and family. Welcoming staff and a casual atmosphere create a relaxed dining experience. The restaurant is located near the Lime Parking Garage and has both inside and outside seating options.

A great selection of beverages with bright fresh flavors, a tasty start as you peruse the menu. From left to right, Volka Lemonade (house-made lemonade and vodka), Sweet-Tea Old Fashioned (bourbon,sweet-tea syrup, and bitters), Polite Sangria (Spanish red wine and Florida Orange liqueur), and a Seasonal Slushi – Passion Fruit! The Polite Pig  “kegs” their specialty drink mixes to have them at the ready. This unique method ensures consistency with each order.  A scrumptious black cherry topped our drinks. A twist on the traditional maraschino accent.

While wetting our whistle we enjoyed a just-freshly-made still-warm Hop Salt Pretzel. Two dipping sauces accompanied the chewy treat, beer-Cheese fondu, and a tangy IPA mustard. We devoured the pretzel and dipping sauce in no time!

The Butcher Board was suggested as our entree.  A selection of tender, perfectly seasoned and portioned meats to share. Designed for at least two, the plate includes pork shoulder, smoked chicken, brisket, BBQ cheddar sausage, coleslaw, and jalapeno cornbread. We added ribs for an additional fee.  Our server presented house-made dipping sauces, Southern Gold, mustard- vinegar based, Lil John Signature Porter Sauce, honey and black pepper accent the malty flavors of the beer reduction base. Next, Layla’s Sweet Sauce molasses, honey, and brown sugar complemented by the addition of cumin. BBQ Ranch is spot on with celery seed and smokey goodness.  We found our meat to be perfectly seasoned and the sauce was not needed.

Two sides we paired with our entree, BBQ Cauliflower, seasoned with paprika sour cream and candied pepitas. Our second side, crispy whiskey-caramel Brussels sprouts. Additionally, we ordered the creamy mac and cheese topped with crispy breadcrumbs, smoked root vegetables drizzled with orange-thyme vinaigrette topped with puffed grains of rice and a beautiful fall dish of roasted beets dressed with smoked pecan granola, goat cheese, and baby oranges.

Here are some images of the restaurant – ordering is easy at the walk-up counter. Menu items are clearly on display on large monitors. Set up as quick-serve, where an order is placed at the counter and an electronic order tracking device is taken to your table. Servers deliver your meal when ready and are on hand to provide assistance when needed. The restaurant does accept some Disney Dining Plans. Open for lunch and dinner.

The Sauce Bar, located centrally, should you need access to more of the delightful concoctions to dress your meal.

The Polite Pig is more than just great bar-b-que. An impressive selection of bourbon, rye, and reserve. Choose a flight to sample several before making a final choice. A great option when you can’t decide. Florida craft beer is available for the hop lovers and of course specialty cocktails – we certainly enjoyed ours.

To end a perfect meal – dessert of course!  We were able to make room for the sweet treats and they were amazing. Carrot Cake with perfect cream cheese icing, a southern favorite, Buttermilk Chess Pie and Orange Blossom Honey Cake.

Our bellies full and our mouths happy, the enjoyable evening did not end there.  We took a Gideon’s Bakehouse treat for later.  The biggest chocolate chip cookies I had ever seen!  At nearly a half pound each, these chocolate-lovers dream cookies melt in your mouth.  A hint of salt on the bottom of the cookie balances the sweetness. A perfect end to a memorable meal. The Gideon’s Bakehouse is the master of these colossal goodies and they are masters at cookie creation. The Gideon’s Bakehouse is located at East End Market.  The cookies are proudly featured at The Polite Pig and it is the only location, other than the BakeHouse, to get them!

The Disneyland Christmas tree stands 60-feet tall on Main Street, U.S.A. and has become a favorite spot for guests to snap their holiday photos.

Be sure to look for the candles on the tree. They look like the real flickering candles you see in movies and pictures of old-time Christmas. It adds a really fun dimension to the tree this year.

Prep and Landing Cupcakes Have Landed at WDW

Prep and Landing Cupcakes

Prep and Landing Cupcakes

Elves, Gingerbread, and frosting- could these cupcakes possibly get any more Christmassy? Lanny and Wayne are bringing their hilarious adventures to a treat near you this Christmas (ahem… if you happen to be at Walt Disney World that is). This delicious cupcake made an early debut along with the early start to Hollywood Studios’ Flurry of Fun earlier this week. You can find it at Rosie’s All American Cafe and runs $4.99 (+tax) and IS eligible as a snack credit on the Disney Dining Plan. Which is all well and good but what you really want to know is what the Prep and Landing cupcake is like, right

Prep and landing cupcake

So what is it like?  In a word: delicious. The Gingerbread is light and fluffy. It isn’t overly spiced (as Gingerbread can sometimes be) but has that iconic Christmas flavor we all know and love. It is filled with cream cheese frosting that isn’t overly sweet and adds a creaminess to the cupcake that would certainly be lacking without it. Topped with red frosting and adorned with red and green sprinkles this cupcake is delicious. It is finished off with everybody’s favorite hijinxing elves- Wayne and Lenny making this treat both tasty and adorable.

Typically, this mama stays well away from anything red (have you ever tried to get red stains out of clothing? Not fun) but this treat is so tasty and fun that we’ll throw caution to the wind and just dive right into this one.

Rosies all American cafeThis is one tasty Christmas treat that definitely gets the seal of approval. It worth the price in my book and I could see it quickly becoming a habit (my waistline is probably grateful that this cupcake is only available for a limited time).  Pick one up today over at Rosie’s All American Cafe today and let us know what you think!

New Star Wars Series in the Works for DIsney

There’s a new live-action Star Wars series in the works for Disney’s upcoming streaming service.  Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced that Lucasfilm is developing the series, starring Diego Luna, for Disney+, the company’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service.

The series revolves around Cassian Andor, the rebel spy from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.  Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor. “Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” said Luna. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

The series joins The Mandalorian, which has already started production, on the Disney+ roster of Star Wars shows. Director/producer Jon Favreau has posted on Instagram about his series, “The Mandalorian: After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

No release date has been announced for either series.  The Disney+ streaming service is expected sometime next year.

Refillable Mugs Update For Guests Staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge and Coronado Springs

Refillable Mugs From Animal Kingdom Lodge No Longer Active at Waterparks

Animal Kingdom Lodge Resort had been allowing guests who purchased length of stay refillable mugs, the ability to refill the mugs at Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach water parks. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is Festive Family Fun

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is Festive Family Fun

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is Festive Family Fun

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is festive family fun at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.  Celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with your family and friends in the most magical place on Earth. To kick off the Christmas season this year, I brought my family to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party to create some unforgettable holiday memories.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Welcome

The party officially kicks off at 7 pm, but the welcome starts at 4 pm.  Guests can get the party wristbands at the entrance of Magic Kingdom or various locations throughout the park.  Also, Disney Vacation Club members can receive their wristbands starting at 2 pm.  Head through the walkway next to Tony’s Town Square and take some Christmas-inspired photos and get your Santa Mickey sugar cookie.

Festive Photopass

Whether in the welcome walkway or throughout the park,  be sure to stop at the different photopass locations to capture all the holiday magic (including magic shots) with your family.  I love photopass because I finally get to be in the family photos instead of behind the camera!

Festive Attractions/Rides

Everybody sing “Jingle Cruise, Jingle Cruise, Jingle All the Way!”  Nothing puts my family in the holiday spirit like our favorite ride at Christmas – Jingle Cruise.  We love all the Christmas decorations and the jokes! Not to mention, enjoy very short wait times around the park for your favorite rides.

Festive Holiday Treats

Did somebody say free Christmas Cookies and hot cocoa?! Look for the giant light-up peppermint sticks all around the Magic Kingdom to signal a free treat stop! It never ceases to amaze me how many cups of cocoa and cookies my kids can eat. I love the snowman pretzel at Tortuga Tavern. My son also LOVES the sno-cone (Auntie Gravity’s/Tortuga Tavern) and Mickey’s Very Merry Berry slush ($5.99) at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe. Let’s not forget about that holiday burger ($14.99) at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe; my husband gobbled that right up!

Festive Shows

  • Frozen Holiday Wish

If you have a kid that is Frozen obsessed like our toddler, do not miss the Frozen Holiday Wish at 6:15 pm and 8 pm.  My husband and I loved watching our daughter light up watching her favorite characters from Frozen turn Cinderella’s Castle into a winter wonderland. Another great show is Mickey’s Merriest Celebration on the castle stage.  Mickey and the gang sing and dance to all the holiday favorites with beautiful castle projections. Also if you are in Tomorrowland, check out The Edge Effect acapella group and a Totally Tomorrowland Christmas show.

Festive Dance Parties

  • Jingle Jam

If you have a Disney Junior fan in your family, then head over to Jingle Jam in Storybook Circus.  My daughter danced the night away with her favorite characters – Vampirina and Doc McStuffins. Also, check out Club Tinsel at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe as Santa’s Reindeer and Elves dance the night away with the party guests.

Festive Character Meet n Greets

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is Festive Family Fun

My son and I took a quick trip to Zootopia to visit with some of our favorite characters – Judy Hopps & Nick Wilde.  You can find them in Tomorrowland.  Keep a lookout throughout the park for other merry character meet and greets like Santa Goofy, Snow White & the Seven Dwarves, and Mary Poppins & Burt.

Festive Parade – Once Upon a Christmastime

Watching your kids’ eyes twinkle when the snow falls on Main Street USA as their favorite characters “float” by is what it is all about.  Also, the parade floats smell amazing like fresh balsam and gingerbread which adds another layer to the magic. Our family favorite part of the parade is the marching toy soldiers. Just remember to get a spot early for either the 8:30 pm or 11 pm parade.

Overall Thoughts

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party is Festive Family Fun

There is nothing quite like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Capture the holiday spirit with your family this holiday season. My husband and I savored all the little moments with the kids, like watching their eyes light up watching Cinderella’s castle transform or smiling ear to ear every time they got another Christmas cookie.  Thank you Walt Disney World, for letting this mom and dad create priceless memories with our children. New Up Close With Rhinos Tour At Animal Kingdom

Up Close With Rhinos Tour At Animal Kingdom

Do you love getting up close with animals?  This week, the Walt Disney World Resort launched a new tour at Disney’s Animal Kingdom that provides guests with the opportunity to get to know some of their resident animals.  The Up Close with Rhinos Tour definitely is a unique and amazing experience. I am thrilled that I was given the opportunity to check out the Animal Kingdom’s newest offering.

New Up Close With Rhinos Tour At Animal Kingdom

This tour is offered daily at 11 am (check-in is 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour).  Check-in is located at the kiosk across from the entrance to the Kilimanjaro Safari attraction. After you sign your releases, you are given your lanyards and you wait for your guide to take you on this unique experience.

New Up Close With Rhinos Tour At Animal Kingdom

Once everyone has gathered, you get to behind the walls and backstage.  Since this tour takes place completely in the backstage area, photography is not permitted.

New Up Close With Rhinos Tour At Animal Kingdom

Once backstage, you will board a small bus and head to the animal barns.  We got to see a young elephant enjoying some enrichment and a cheetah relaxing in the sun before we arrived at our destination – the rhino barn.  We toured the barns and learned about these magnificent creatures.

We learned that there are two varieties of African Rhinos – the white and the black.  The white rhinos are the ones we got to visit with today.  There are also three species of Asian Rhinos – the Javan, the Sumatran and the Greater One-Horned.  Disney’s Animal Kingdom only has the African species in residence.  We learned that all rhinos have three twos and that all have two horns excepted the Javan and the Greater One-Horned Rhino (hence the name).

All animals at both Disney’s Animal Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom Lodge have specific sounds that are used to call the animals back into their barns.  The sound for the rhinos is two large metal bars being banged together.

We then went out to the Rhino yard where we met Jao, a 25-year-old wild caught female and Lola an 8-year-old female.  We got to watch a training exercise which is used to help the animals come and stand still.  This is used for veterinary care procedures.  We also got to meet Dugan, the newest member of #TeamRhino.  He is a male and is in the process of being introduced to Jao and Lola in hopes of there being a successful breeding to help the survival of this amazing species.

We got to observe these magnificent creatures, ask questions and then we got to do the best thing ever!!!!!  We got to pet Jao.  We got to feel her skin and see her up close.  We got to look in her eyes and let me tell you, she has the most beautiful eyelashes.  We also got to witness the amazing bond the rhinos have with their keepers.

Overall, this tour was amazing! It runs for about an hour and there is minimal walking required.  I highly recommend you check this out!  Most importantly, the entire cost of the tour is donated to the Disney Conservation Fund and earmarked for Rhino conservation.
