Adventureland Entrance Archway Dismantled at Magic Kingdom
Demolition is currently underway on the iconic Adventureland entrance sign at Magic Kingdom. The archway has been partially dismantled, and its future remains uncertain. This latest change is part of a larger pattern of refurbishment and evolution happening across the park.
The dismantling began with the removal of the “Adventureland” sign itself and its accompanying themed props, including the Abu Fab 50 statue. Now, some of the archway’s themed posts have also been taken down. What remains are the main vertical supports, one full-length horizontal support, and some remaining posts with hanging lanterns. The exterior theming of one horizontal support has been removed, revealing the inner planks.
It’s unclear whether the archway will be rebuilt to its original design or replaced with a completely new structure and signage. The refurbishment could be routine maintenance to address the sign’s aging structure, but with the ongoing updates and changes throughout Magic Kingdom, a new design is also a distinct possibility.
This work follows other recent changes in the area, including the refurbishment of the Adventureland/Frontierland sign at the back of the land earlier in 2025. It also coincides with significant projects like the draining of the Rivers of America and the transformation of Tom Sawyer Island into a new Cars-themed area, highlighting a period of widespread transformation for the park.
The deconstruction of the Adventureland entrance archway is a powerful symbol of the ongoing evolution at Magic Kingdom. Whether it is a temporary removal for a much-needed refurbishment or the beginning of a completely new design, this change highlights a significant period of transformation for the park. As guests walk through the dismantled structure, they are witnessing firsthand the balance between honoring the park’s classic past and embracing its future. The eventual reveal of the new or refurbished entrance will not only complete this latest project but also offer another clear sign of the direction Walt Disney World is headed.
Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom Almost Completely Drained
The Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom is undergoing a significant transformation, as the waterway has been nearly drained following the permanent closure of the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer’s Island. The water level has been steadily dropping since July, revealing a rarely seen perspective of this iconic part of the park.
With the water almost gone, the full track of the Liberty Square Riverboat is now exposed, along with parts of the river’s floor. Algae and other underwater debris cling to the track and float in the remaining shallow water. Sloping riverbeds that were once submerged are now visible, and large patches of mud have formed around set pieces near the Frontierland pier. Despite the low water levels, some fish remain, and birds have been seen wading in the river’s muddy banks.
While construction on Tom Sawyer’s Island has been quiet for a few weeks, the future of the area is still a topic of much speculation. It’s set to be replaced by a new Cars area, though it’s still unclear how this will impact the nearby Frontierland pier.
The drained Rivers of America offers a rare and dramatic glimpse into the major transformations taking place at Magic Kingdom. The exposed riverbed and boat track are tangible signs of the park’s shift away from classic attractions like the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer’s Island..
While some fans mourn the loss of these nostalgic pieces of Americana, the changes pave the way for exciting new additions, including the rumored Cars-themed area and the upcoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. The sight of the drained river serves as a powerful visual reminder of the ongoing evolution of Walt Disney World, as it continues to balance its beloved past with a new, story-driven future.
Anaheim Teachers Receive Surprise Tickets and Supplies from Disneyland
With the new school year on the horizon, Disneyland Resort is celebrating its 70th anniversary by giving back to those who shape the future: Anaheim teachers.
To help local educators prepare for the year ahead, Disneyland cast members donated and collected over 68,000 school supplies for elementary schools in Anaheim, providing valuable resources to help make dreams come true in the classroom.
The annual Back-to-School Supply Drive at Disneyland Resort brings cast members across The Happiest Place on Earth together to collect and sort thousands of materials for local students and teachers — including colored pencils, crayons, pencils, notebooks and more.
This year marks the most amount of school supplies ever donated to Orange Grove Elementary School as part of this annual campaign.
Before the first day of school, Disney VoluntEARS arrived to distribute the supplies but had even more magic in store.
During a staff meeting, Disney Ambassador Raul Aquino Rojas and Mickey Mouse surprised over 100 teachers and faculty at Orange Grove Elementary School, thanking them for their dedication and hard work before inviting them to enjoy the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration with complimentary tickets for themselves and a guest.
Disneyland Resort is proud to continue supporting Orange Grove Elementary School, a time-honored relationship nearly 20 years old. In addition to the annual Back-to-School Supply Drive, the resort also partners with the school for the HOLA Readers program – a 12-week annual program that encourages young minds to succeed through dedicated story time with Disney VoluntEARS, Disney Career Days and Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
“Getting all these supplies and getting the support of Disney for our school community is so exciting,” said Lauren Hastings, a sixth-grade teacher at Orange Grove Elementary School. “We are full of gratitude, and we are so blessed to receive this support from Disney VoluntEARS.”
Disney World to Host Inaugural HBCU Hoops Invitational
This December, the inaugural HBCU Hoops Invitational will bring several marquee Black college basketball programs to Walt Disney World Resort. The men’s tournament, running from December 4-7, will feature Florida A&M University, Tuskegee University, Florida Memorial University, and Barber-Scotia College. The women’s bracket will include Bethune-Cookman University, Hampton University, Edward Waters University, and Cheyney University.
The Historically Black College and University (HBCU) men’s and women’s teams will compete inside the State Farm Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in a single-elimination format with the chance to claim the inaugural HBCU Hoops Invitational titles. Florida A&M, which recently hired former Heisman Trophy winner Charlie Ward as head coach, headlines the men’s field, having reached the NCAA Division I Tournament three times, while Cheyney University’s women’s team is the only HBCU school to ever reach the NCAA Division I Tournament Final Four (1982).
Beyond the court, the HBCU Hoops Invitational, which is run by HBCU Hoops Global, Inc., plans to support HBCU players, schools and students by hosting a college admissions fair at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, creating scholarships, providing academic assistance and identifying career development opportunities throughout the year.
“The HBCU Hoops Invitational is far more than a basketball tournament—it’s a powerful celebration of heritage, excellence and the limitless future of HBCU athletics,’’ said HBCU Hoops Global vice president Haywoode Workman, who spent nearly a decade playing in the NBA before becoming an NBA referee. “We are building a legacy that extends well beyond the court to open doors to academic achievement, career readiness and financial opportunity for our scholar-athletes.”
The new hoops tourney adds to an already bustling college basketball calendar at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, which hosts the WBCA Showcase (Nov. 20-23) and the ESPN Events Invitational (Nov. 24-28) during the Thanksgiving holiday week, as well as several AAU boys’ and girls’ national basketball championships.
“We are excited about the opportunities to bring thrilling, family-friendly events to ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and this HBCU Hoops Invitational adds to our lineup of high-caliber youth and college events,’’ said Jorge Senior, Disney’s Director of Sports Planning and Development. “If you’re a college basketball fan, there’s no better place to be during the holidays than at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.’’

Could Magic Kingdom’s Villains Land Get Its Next Big Reveal at Destination D23?
The wait for more details on Magic Kingdom’s highly anticipated Disney Villains Land might be over sooner than expected. Disney has announced a “Disney Villains: Icons of Evil” panel for Destination D23 on Saturday, August 30, 2025, and while the description doesn’t outright confirm an update, it hints that “new projects and attractions” will be part of the discussion.
Running from 9:05 to 9:50 a.m., the panel promises appearances from Disney Experiences creatives (and possibly a few favorite baddies), along with a special Villains-themed musical medley to kick off day two of the fan event. The timing and phrasing have fueled speculation that Disney could share fresh insight into the dark and twisted new land planned for Magic Kingdom.
So far, only one piece of concept art has been released, which shows a dramatic, shadowy setting and what appears to be a roller coaster in one corner. Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro has confirmed this is not “blue sky” art, but represents real projects already in development.
Two major attractions — one expected to be a coaster
Dining and shopping — all dripping with sinister style
“Incredibly twisted grand scale” theming promised by Disney
Whether the panel delivers a full reveal or just teases what’s to come, one thing is certain: the hype for Villains Land is building. If Disney is ready to pull back the curtain, August 30 could be the day we get our next wickedly exciting glimpse.

Go With the Flow: EPCOT’s Canada Pavilion Waterfall is Back in Action
After a three-and-a-half-month dry spell, one of EPCOT’s most picturesque features is flowing once more: the Canada Pavilion’s iconic waterfall has returned, and the scenery is looking as majestic as ever.
Nestled among rugged rockwork at the back of the pavilion, the waterfall is more than just a pretty backdrop — it’s a vital piece of the Canada Pavilion’s immersive charm. The rushing water tumbles down the cliffside to join a small stream near the bridge leading to the “Canada Far and Wide” Circle-Vision 360° film, while an upper-level overlook (near the recently opened Disney Vacation Club Welcome Home Center) offers a bird’s-eye view of the cascade.
The effect has been absent since at least mid-April, coinciding with ongoing work in the pavilion, including the DVC Welcome Home Center’s construction. While the waterfall itself hasn’t changed in design, its return brings movement, sound, and a welcome dash of cool air to the rocky landscape — something noticeably missing during the warm Florida summer months.
The Canada Pavilion has seen a few other updates this year, too. The long-closed family restrooms near the back reopened in April, and World Showcase’s FriendShip Boat service between Canada and Germany recently resumed, giving guests another scenic way to traverse the lagoon.
For now, though, the star of the show is the waterfall’s triumphant return — so next time you’re strolling through World Showcase, pause for a moment to enjoy this little slice of Canadian wilderness, right in the heart of EPCOT.
